Amazing hidden gem in the south bay. This restaurant is tucked away in a plaza that never gets busy, so there's always plenty of parking. It's a Japanese steakhouse specializing in Wagyu but they have plenty of other options as well. We ended up getting the ribeye (16oz) which was cooked to perfection. For sides, we also ordered the lobster mac n cheese (8/10), roasted wild mushroom (9.5/10) and not pictured is the smooth mashed potatoes (9.5/10). Everything was great, we went for my birthday and they took a polaroid picture of us! The restaurant wasn't busy while we dined in on a Tuesday night so it was quiet, so maybe weekends might be more crowded. This place is by far the most overpriced place I have ever ate. it is in a strip mall in a horrible area. I ordered the lobster and had the manager smell it, it smelt sour and had a bad taste. i was not eaten. i also addressed the horrible service by the 19 year old waiters they have. my wife steak came out 15 minutes before all the other food so she waited for the other food and by then her food was cold. I do not mind spending $750 for a meal but between the horrible service and the inability for the manager to do the right thing my the evening unenjoyable and I would recommend everyone stay as far away as possible. i thing my biggest issue is that the manager acknowledged the lobster may be spoiled but still left it on the bill. if you see all my previous reviews i usually never go negative but this place is horrible. read more

I was blown away by how good this place was! We got the cotton candy wagyu skewers - this is a must. The cotton candy just melts in your mouth and pairs so well with the saltiness of the wagyu beef underneath... the contrast in flavors was amazing and was pleasantly surprised! The cotton candy and the wagyu just melted in my mouth! I also got the salmon carpaccio which came with a yuzu ponzu sauce that was very tasty. Had heard about this place for a while and had been meaning to go with Rena but never made it. Suggested it for a work meeting and went. Most wouldn't imagine a fine steak establishment in a mini mall. My guest actually thought they had driven to the wrong place. Restaurant inside is very nice, not too big or small. A private library like space, hence the name perhaps. We started with their well known cotton candy wagu appetizer. It was unique and very good. Wedge salad was excellent and very large. Can be shared by two people. Main courses were the large tomahawk and porterhouse steaks for sharing. Both steaks were very good but perhaps not the best ive ever had. Dessert was a sweet potato sundae that was good but nothing out of the ordinary. Another person in our party got the Molten Lava cake and it looked good. Cooked just the way I like and much flavor. Though I do not eat steak, their seafood options were bomb!!! I ordered the garlic shrimp, crab cakes, lobster Mac &cheese, and Caesar salad that was scrumptious!! The service was elite and beyond accommodating!!! You cannot beat that when it comes to customer service ! Our servers and managers were very amicable and professional! I like the simple fact they open the door for you once you leave. I'm quite torn on the way I'd like to review this restaurant. Nonetheless, my evening was still enjoyable! As a person who absolutely delights in dinner at a good steakhouse, I was slightly disappointed in my steak tonight. Maybe I've been to some supreme restaurants that have created high standards or maybe I was expecting some unparalleled steak at that price. That's not to say it wasn't good, it was but I do believe there were opportunities for enhancement. It just didn't Wow me. So I'll start with the positives. The convenience of booking a reservation and the proximity of this place went hand in hand for two tired parents just trying to squeeze in a dinner date. The ambiance was a romantic vibe with dimmed lights, tied off drapes around the front tables, mirrors along the back wall and piano music playing at the perfect volume. When we walked in we were instantly greeted by Ben. He was also the person to book our reservation over the phone and also waited our table. Very kind young man with exceptional service. Everyone had given us excellent service and were all very attentive to us, I have no complaints regarding service. Now when we opened the menu we just couldn't believe it. We have been to some upscale restaurants before this and couldn't believe that some more established restaurants didn't charge that price for a steak. I feel terrible to keep considering the price in this review, I understand Japanese wagyu is the best of the best but we just didn't feel like taking a leap of faith on it tonight lol. We were given two pieces of bread with two different types of butters. (I really feel they would do better if served a basket of warm bread not two slices but maybe that's just my stomach talking.) After reviewing the menu in shock, we went with the prime new York and ribeye cooked medium, shared a side of asparagus and ordered truffle butter as well...This was the perfect amount of food for us. The steaks were served on a hot plate where you can literally hear the steak sizzle. This is a must for a steakhouse! But immediately after trying to cut my first piece of steak it felt a bit tough. And it was! Instantly disappointed, I felt as though it lacked flavor without constantly having to dip it in the truffle butter we ordered. I couldn't help but I notice my husband had the same look in his eyes without having to say anything at all. So I offered him the truffle butter and it helped with the flavor of each steak. Our asparagus was good it had a soy based sauce and good flavor, some reviews say it was salty but we thought they were cooked just right. So I am not sure if it is because we ordered the prime and not the wagyu but we were disappointed. At the same time I could say I am glad we spent $200 on the prime and not waste $400 on a steak that wasn't cooked to perfection. All in all, this place is worth visiting as it has mixed reviews. People seem to like it, we enjoyed it I believe it has a lot of room to grow and great potential in the South Bay. Maybe move to a more inviting location, perfect their steaks and expand the menu just a little bit. That's just my two cents. One of the best Valentine's Day steak dinner! We started with the marinated octopus and tomato as the appetizer, followed by a main course of an 8 oz. Filet Mignon for each of us cooked to perfection covered with fresh shaved truffles, sides of creamed spinach and truffled mashed potatoes. This restaurant located in a strip mall in Lomita is a gem of a place! Service is very attentive, cozy atmosphere. They do not have a full bar, only wine, beer, and sake. Although it is a bit pricey, they have a much better quality overall than some of the other high end steak houses. This is a little hidden gem in the south Bay. Yes, it's not cheap, but oh my gosh, the food is delicious.

Here you can find different types of Wagyu that you wouldn't typically find in most steakhouses in L.A. such as Hida and Olive fed (usually from Shodoshima). They still have the classical Wagyu Kobe and Miyazaki. 1. Cotton candy wagyu: a lot of sweet onion. Not a lot of meat. 2. Bone marrow: good but very oily 3. Bone in rib eye and dry aged Kansas rib eye: meat was a bit tougher than the fillet. Dry aged had a slightly different flavor but overall was not that different. 4. Fillet : tender and flavorful. Would get this again n 5. Hida and Olive Wagyu: too fatty/oily. 1 or 2 slices way enough 8. roasted wild mushroom, mashed potatoes and creamed spinach were good sides. read more

The wagyu was melt in your mouth rich, buttery, and marbled like art. The porterhouse was cooked flawlessly with a perfect crust and juicy tenderness that showed off the chef's skill. This restaurant has been on my bucket list. I took my mom here for Mother's Day, so I got the chance to finally try it. This restaurant was not what I expected. It was unbelievably cute inside with upscale, high-end fine dining. It's very small inside. The outside of the restaurant looks like it's not much nothing but once you get inside, it's very elegant. They specialize in various steaks, so they have dry-aged steaks from all kinds, but Wagu is their number one seller. Customer service is impeccable, and they are very accommodating. The Food was delicious, I mean the steak melted in your mouth, it was so tender and juicy. We had fried rice, shrimp, crab cakes, Caesar salad, Mac and cheese, truffle mashed potatoes, and lobster with scallops. All the food was was very flavorful, tender. I've seen at least 2 groups have a server bring out a beautiful dish with sparkly candles. The service and food far exceeded my expectations. Though we RSVPed, they allow walk-ins. My husband planned a nice birthday dinner for me here tonight, and we were excited to try it as a family. As soon as we walked in, the hostess took our name, looked at our two children, and immediately told us we would not be served and needed to leave. I don't have an issue if a restaurant chooses to have a no-children policy, that's their decision. What was upsetting was the way we were addressed. It was so abrupt and dismissive, right in front of our kids. My daughter even turned to me and asked if she had done something wrong. No family should be made to feel that way, especially when it could have been handled with kindness and respect. He even had the audacity to recommend a fast food restaurant next-door. We were celebrating our friend's birthday and our other friend's promotion and new job. We've been looking for a special occasion to justify a steakhouse dinner and this was as good as any celebration. I can't say anything about the wine list because we didn't indulge and were too busy catching up to really look at the options. I suggest reviewing what is available if that is important to you. However, there was a healthy amount of options for appetizers and first courses. We had the bone marrow and shrimp. The bone marrow was presented with a sweet brulee and and a savory option. The general consensus was we liked the savory marrow and the sweet was a "good" interesting. The shrimp was prepared correctly with a nice cocktail sauce. Some of us liked the shrimp more than others at the table. Okay, everyone like the shrimp more than I did, but that isn't to take anything away from the dish. We had the soups, the oxtail, lobster bisque and seafood chowder. The oxtail was surprisingly light and brothy. The flavor was delicate and more refined than a comfy oxtail soup from a Hawaiian restaurant. The bisque was rich, fortified with old school roasting of the lobster shells to make a broth and huge chunks of lobster meat. Creamy and served with baguette slices, the bisque was filling. The seafood chowder was a thick roux based chowder with chunks of seafood. The octopus tentacles were a pleasant surprise. So far, portions have been generous to appropriate for a steakhouse. We all had ribeye in some variation, bone-in or without. If I remember correctly, we did all get prime selections vs the dry-aged or waygu. The quality of the protein was superior and the marbling was exquisite. For our sides, we had the asparagus, mashed potatoes, lobster mac and cheese, and garlic rice. I would say, portion size and flavors met expectations of a steakhouse. We were a table of Asians and the garlic rice, well, was an interesting conversation point. As the Filipinos mentioned, the sticky rice was not what they were expecting, but it wasn't bad. The flavor matched their expectations, but the texture was a bit of a disconnect. As the lone Japanese at the table, I pointed out that the restaurant was Japanese orientated and of course a short grain rice would be served. Being Asian, we collectively agreed, some rice was better than no rice, and this rice was good enough. For dessert, we were offered complimentary ice cream and cheesecake for our special occasions. It was a kind and delicious gesture and enough for the table to share. It is hard tobelieve we are in a strip mall in Lomita. The room was elegant and the atmosphere serene. The service was attentive and unobtrusive. We did experience some hiccups. Courses were served with some delay. Everyone at the table was not served their course at the same time. It resulted in warm soup and a little awkwardness while we waited for the celebrants to receive their soup. The same with the steaks. While I don't expect synchronized service, I do expect our food to be presented in succession reasonably. Worst of all, my partner's steak was served well done when medium rare was requested. I buried this information in this review because I have mixed feelings. After alerting the staff, my husband was offered a new steak. However with the delay of serving the entrees, he would begin eating as we sat finished with our meal. This is a steakhouse, you have one job, cook the steak to the requested temperature. That being said, mistakes happen. It was unfortunate. We declined to have the steak remade. It didn't ruin the steak, it wasn't leather. The steak just didn't meet expectations. That being said, it is often not the mistake but how an establishment recovers that makes or breaks a night. When we declined to have the steak remade, the manager insisted he take the item off the bill. My husband ate the steak and liked it. The manager could have offered a free dessert, comped a side or appetizer but instead he took off the full price of a steak that was eaten. There was a sincerity in his goodwill gesture and we graciously accepted. Would we go again? I'm not sure. The evening was expensive and there are other great steakhouses in our area to try or revisit. If we were invited, I think we would go without hesitation and with a smile. But I also think the Steak Library would not be our first suggestion for a special occasion. Sorry for the long review, but it was a great celebratory evening with good friends that had some nuanced issues. Some of the issues would have landed the restaurant on the blacklist, but the manager and staff, quality, and value makes the restaurant worthy of another try. I REALLY wanted to love this spot but .... Came here for a birthday celebration & had high hopes for a stellar experience but left disappointed. While the menu was intriguing and the choices for a steak lover with a liberal budget were exciting, the service that evening was woefully inadequate. I get it. The restaurant business is tough. But when the bill is well over $300 for two with only one cocktail , the expectations for service should be equally high. Some low lights: Upon entering the dimly lit space there was a very large puddle of water at the very small waiting area (standing room only maybe 4 adults). The staff seemed oblivious & even stepped into the puddle to access there aged wagyu meat locker. Granted there was a deluge of rain that afternoon but there was zero effort to protect customers. Maybe a cone, a chair, some towels? Because they were so understaffed there was a very long wait to even be acknowledged to get logged into their very quirky iPad/reservation list. Because the dining area is very small we could see patron after patron waiting & getting frustrated. There were several mistakes & omissions in our order. Frazzled staff and possibly language issues, quirky iPad system used for taking orders? Of the 3 men on duty only 1 was a native English speaker. For example, Rib Eye was ordered Med Rare but was cooked Medium. For the price I would normally send it back but it took so long to be served it wasn't worth the delay. That said, the flavor was very good & staff was very very nice & apologetic. We received complimentary coffee. Rib Eye was flavorful but overcooked. The portion was not very large & thinner than I'd prefer for the price. It's served on a sizzling hot plate so maybe it sat on the plate too long before serving & continued to cook beyond the desired temp? The Filet on the other hand was cooked perfectly & was delicious & tender. Mushrooms were very tasty & the assortment was nice. The sauce on the asparagus was interesting & tasty as well. We didn't receive the (small) side of garlic rice until late in the meal & only after reminding them we had ordered it earlier. It seems like this is a very popular spot and maybe too busy given their staffing. Value for the money wasn't there for me but I'm sure there are folks who don't mind splurging or are using an expense account that could care less. I really hope this place continues to succeed but perhaps temper your expectations? And did I say the staff was very nice & polite? It makes it harder to write a negative review. We decided to give the Steak Library a try for my wife 65th birthday. Don't expect much when you park and walk into the restaurant, but everything changes once you walk in. They did a wonderful job with the decor of the restaurant, it is not very big. But it is done with a high level design. We did bring our own bottle of wine for our dinner, which they were happy to open. But what is really important is they took away the wine glasses from the table and brought over Pinot Noir Glasses for our wine. A clear understanding by the restaurant on stemware and the part it plays with wine. Something that a number of others restaurants don't do. We started off with an order of Bone Marrow which had one in a garlic oil and the other done in a Brûlée style. Both were very tasty. We also had the marinated octopus and tomatoes, the dressing seems to be in a rice wine vinegar. Just a simple but very good appetizer. Our main course was the 22oz bone on Rib Eye, a very tender rib eye with just the right amount of seasoning on top. The same thing could be said about the roasted wild mushrooms, so many restaurants will serve mushrooms and they are very dull. Not here, great flavor and a nice amount of mushrooms for two people. I love love love tamaen so when I heard they opened up a steak shop last year, next door to their original place, I've been eying an opportunity to visit. I recently finally had the opportunity to go! We went to celebrate new staff for our company and we were pretty surprised to see how formal the place was. We saw it on the Yelp review so we made sure to dress minimum business casual and it seemed to be a good decision! The ambiance was dark and quiet. They display their aged meat in their fridge. This place is pricey but ahhhhmazinggg! Their appetizer like lobster Mac is close to $30 lol and the fixins for your meal you chose per item. All that to say, the food was delicious! The wagyu steaks are pretty big so I ordered a 20oz with my coworker and asked to have it split. It ended up being the perfect amount considering all the sides we had. As for the service, on the floor, they had 2 gentlemen serving. 1 was the main waiter and the other seemed to be a bar tender. Both young gentlemen but really trained on hospitality. I contemplated doing this review. I made a reservation for a birthday dinner. The setup was beautiful with rose petals all over the table. The ambiance was nice. 2 other tables besides ours were being serviced. It was a quiet rainy night so for service to be less than excellent would have to be hard. The food was excellent. Steak Caesar salad garlic jumbo shrimp cream spinach mashed potatoes was delicious. Great wine everything was great until the end. I paid with my card $315 and was pulling out cash to leave a tip(twenty and fifty). The waiter walk back to the table and asked why I did not tip on my card. I couldn't believe he asked and kind of blocking my exit until explanation. This made my party and I uncomfortable and left a bad impression. We were turned away at the door due to a very fine print policy not allowing children under 6, even though we had a confirmed reservation. The restaurant is located in a residential shopping mall - not exactly the kind of place you'd expect such strict policies. My husband had hoped to celebrate his 50th birthday with our children at a nice steakhouse, but unfortunately, that wasn't possible, due to very small print restriction at the bottom of the reservation booking. While I didn't get to dine myself, my in-laws have and were underwhelmed overall. They noted the olive steak as the highlight of the meal, which we were keen to try, but the rest of the meal didn't leave much of an impression. If you're looking for a warm, welcoming place to enjoy a special occasion with your family, this likely isn't the spot. Be sure to read the fine print closely before booking. read more

This is a high end steak restaurant featuring A5 Wagyu and dry aged premium cuts. The staff are very attentive and friendly. The ambiance is very intimate and they feature very nice jazz music in the background. The restaurant features dishes with real truffles! They are amazing and I highly recommend them. read more

Best service we have had at any restaurant. We got the wagyu sushi, miyazaki, kobe, truffle mac n cheese, asparagus, and celebratory cheesecake. Everything was cooked to perfection. We will definitely be returning to try other other menu items. read more

The Steak Library is a very nice place with a premium meat experience. While everything we saw was in English, the place had a Japanese fine dining vibe. However, for the most premium experience ensure you have a bit of room on your credit card. The restaurant currently does not have signage -I suspect that will change- and the its strip mall location does not look too special, but it is very special. I started with sake and my partner chose their take on an Old Fashioned called the Old Man - not a strict Old Fashioned but it has a delightful aroma and a smooth taste. I switched my drink choice for a second round. We chose to have aged beef and picked a tomahawk steak. It's presented prior to cooking and came out wonderfully done. Sides were asparagus, mushrooms, and mashed potatoes. The mushrooms paired with the mustard miso sauce/ paste was excellent. The mashed potatoes were good, but not my favorite. A gem, that I did not even know about until I saw it on their menu was the wagyu beef cotton candy side. Cotton candy is served over what seems like bits of shredded wagyu beef and slightly caramelized onions and a raw egg yolk. Pour some sauce over the cotton candy topping to dissolve, mix the egg and other ingredients to give you a delightful mixture of slight sweetness and beef. Honestly, a less expensive hack to have a nice meal might be to order similar sides to ours and two orders of the cotton candy wagyu. The atmosphere is good and all the staff is friendly, attentive, and helpful. Its price point makes this a once-in-while treat for us, but we might try the sister restaurant next door. read more

We came here for a romantic Valentine's Day meal and could not have been happier. I made a reservation about a month in advance in anticipation of trying this new steakhouse that was all the rage with my friends. The interior was classy and sleek. Tables were set carefully, with roses at each, napkins folded to perfection. We checked in with the host and were seated within moments. Our plates and utensils were replaced every service. Each server was polite and professional, taking great care and making excellent suggestions. My filet mignon was incredible, as was my husband's bone in prime rib. We shared sides of truffle mac and cheese and garlic fried rice. We finished our meal with the molten chocolate lava cake, complete with heart shaped strawberries-- this is the only thing I had the presence of mind to capture in a photo. It was all delectable. We'll be looking for an excuse to return for a special occasion. read more

This is a terrific steak house in Lomita. My Porterhouse Steak was terrific, The cotton candy Stake was unusual and good. Service was quite good as well. This was a great dining experience.
