Sometimes one does not want to go through the troubles of cooking a large Thanksgiving meal. Especially, if it's only for three people. This was our case when I was visiting family tonight. They decided to get to go meals from Mimi's Cafe. They said they've done it in the past, and the food has always been good. We came incredibly early, and got three meals to go. However, good with not be the exact description of the outcome (sadly). We showed up around 1:00 p.m., and they told us despite what the special Thanksgiving menu said they only had pumpkin pie to offer and only the house salad as there were no soup options available. We also noticed that the price went up from $20 to $29 per meal this year. Ugh. However, we went with it. The service was friendly and we didn't wait too long for the meals, which was nice. However, upon getting the meals, the experience went down further. As you can see from the picture, their pie slices were quite small. As if they were trying to cut corners to save money. And the cranberry sauce that showed coming in a nice side bowl in the image, actually came in tiny little plastic cups that you'd normally put ketchup in. And I'm not talking about the taller ones, but the shorter ones that are only half an inch tall. In other words, you got a single spoonful of cranberry sauce. Clearly, another example of providing as little as possible for as much as possible given the noticeable increase in price. Again though, they said they didn't want to deal with making their own meal and it was what it was. However, I do sadly have to continue with my description of things. The overall opinion was that the green bean bake wasn't that great. Rubbery and bland. The stuffing didn't have much to offer and both looked and tasted much like the mashed potatoes. The mashed potatoes, we're good thankfully. But, that was about it. The turkey was okay, but something was off. Didn't quite taste like fresh turkey. More like the frozen/preserved slices you'd find in a frozen dinner at the grocery store. Along with the blandish taste of such. Each bite offering the same repetitive experience as the last. Overall, I couldn't quite recommend Mimi's Cafe for Thanksgiving dinner. I would assume that their Christmas dinner options would likely be quite similar to this experience as well. I can't see much for their normal menu items as I myself have only eaten there one time in the past and it's probably been a good 5 years or more since that occurred. So it might not have left much of an expression either. Sadly, I can't say that I'll be back. read more

This review is for the Thanksgiving feast. We did order it and went to pick it up Wednesday evening. The feast can easily feed 8 to 10 people for $179.99, which is a decent price. I will be breaking down the items in the feast and rating them out of 10 Turkey: the turkey is fully cooked so one only needs to place it in the oven to have it warmed up. The instructions say to warm it up at 3 inch and 25°F for an hour and 45 minutes to 165° for the meat, but let me make it clear that it likely needs at least another 30 minutes to an hour of cooking to reach that temperature.. otherwise, the turkey was yummy. 8/10. Mashed potatoes: these are good, but they are far from great. I make way better mashed potatoes. They're just extremely average. 6/10. Sweet potato casserole: this was an epic fail for Mimi's. I make the most amazing sweet potato casserole, and this one was just so bland. It was really bad and I would never want to try this again, especially when I can make a way better one with marshmallows that people say is many times better. This dish made me wish that I just cooked the whole feast myself from scratch . 4/10. Green beans with fried onion: I don't get this, and I just don't like it very much, but for those that actually do like it, they said it was just OK. 6/10. Stuffing: the stuffing is good, but again, the box store ones can be made, and are just as good if not better. I expected a lot more of the stuffing than what I got. 6/10. Turkey gravy: the turkey gravy was half decent. It's a good amount for the amount of turkey one gets. If somebody likes a lot of gravy on their turkey, this may not be enough. 8/10. Cranberry sauce: let me first of all say that I ordered two cranberry sauces, and I only got one even though I paid for two. This is a classic issue with how disorganized Mimi's is. I will discuss that at the end of this review. The amount of cranberry sauce given for the turkey is pitiful. It's insulting. There is enough for maybe two or three servings at the most. We simply ordered a large bucket of yummy cranberry sauce from Costco so we had that as a back up and that really saved us. The actual cranberry sauce itself is about a 6/10 because I get better ones at Costco and Sam's, but the amount of cranberry sauce given for the large meal is a 1/10! Raisin nut loaves: two are given per meal, and it's simply not enough. These are pretty yummy. The rating is 8/10, but the amount is 2/10. I did not order the ham as part of the meal, so I cannot rate that. So the consensus... We will be prepping and cooking our own Thanksgiving meal next year! Mimi's was average and not that good. I'm really disappointed because Mimi's used to have an incredible thanksgiving, turkey feast, but I feel like it's gone downhill. The service was also very slow and incredibly disorganized. I was incredibly disappointed. Overall just a thumbs down. I will also state that unless you have a massive oven, the instructions say to put the turkey in and 45 minutes before the turkey is done, put the sides next to the turkey in the oven rack, and that's simply not realistic... If you put the turkey in the type of baking rack it needs to go into to bake in the oven, there is no room on that rack to put the other food, so we put it in the rack below the turkey. Otherwise, the services is friendly, and the restaurant itself is nice, but we were not eating there.. another small issue is we were sent all the way to the back of the restaurant to get the meals and when you get the whole feast it's in a box and it's not light, so one needs to make sure they have someone that can help them at the restaurant to get it into the car. read more

Sorry to say that Mimi's Café today was not the Mimi's Café of old for us. We ate there regularly when we were in another state. Decided to revisit this one in Henderson for the first time at 11 am on a Friday. The lower rating is due to the longer wait to be seated (40 minutes), longer wait time to take our order (15 minutes) the dirty waiting area floor littered with debris, many uncleared dirty tables, a décor that is in need of updating, and an under-staffed wait staff. The food ordered included a Pot roast dinner and a Berry, spinach, shrimp and quinoa salad came well-prepared. Our waitress, Maria, did her best to give us good service. Parking was not a problem and the restaurant noise level was low. Not much more to add except that we will not be returning given the myriad of other restaurants from which to choose. read more

My server here was great today! I could not ask for better service or a friendlier server. Kudos to my waitress! I had the Salmon, strawberry salad. The salmon was cooked perfectly. The salad had the perfect amount of dressing. The criticism I would have is it came with way too many tomatoes. It wasn't proportional with the amount of lettuce at all. The orange needs to be segmented. Not left with the rind on, it's too difficult to eat that way. Rather than having tomatoes on the salad, I would actually suggest blue cheese crumbles. Enjoyed this place. Came here for the first time a couple weeks ago and they had a decent selection at a decent price. The coffee was not the best but they seemed busy, so I wasn't too upset. The Server was genuinely kind, so they get to keep their 5-star status with me. If I felt they were fake, I'd probably have felt differently. But no, a genuinely nice person waited out table. Let's just say this, I think this place has lost any credibility in atmosphere, appearance, flavor, and quality. I'm truly disappointed in the reheated meals. I don't think anything is fresh at all. I told my mom let's leave this place doesn't look good , but we stayed anyways, we had the worst service didn't even have silverware were water 30 minutes after we got there. Asked for bread the girl forgot, when I asked again, and she got mad and said she's the only one working. When our turkey dinner finally came, it was gross. For the 1st time I went to the Henderson location. It looked old and rustic, the booth chairs had no cushion and it felt very uncomfortable. I ordered a cappuccino and it tasted awful, it was anything but coffee. The sample bread was very chewy and not fresh. My Egg Benedict's had no flavor and hardly any sauce. It just to be one of my favorite places, unfortunately that was my last try. I can't afford to spend money on awful food. For sure not a cheap place. The Saturday morning manager and his team are awesome. They didn't miss a beat and when one of our plates had to go back he immediately took action to make sure we were compensated and taken care of. Jambalaya- tasty and had some spice, the rice was nice Mahi Mahi- mild and flavorful with the capers giving a yummy twist Mediterranean Eggs Benedict- took a little longer since they had to do my eggs again, I didn't even have to say anything they automatically spotted it out for me. The seating was comfortable and the waiter was very nice. The food I felt was a bit over priced especially after I tasted it. I ordered the French dip sandwich. The way it was built made it hard to eat and it fell apart before I could even put it in the broth. It came with no fries so I had to order those separate. That and a tea was $20. I did not order a desert however my mom did and there was a long hair in it. The waiter said he was sorry and offered another dessert however my mom decided against it. Stopped in with my daughters for lunch, hoping for a variety of options. We were not disappointed and all able to find something that suited us. My friend and I had Thanksgiving dinner here a couple days ago. Although we were early, they seated us right away around 1:30. They brought us bread which was really good. My friend had a salad which she liked, and I had French onion soup for my starter, which was good for what it was. My friend wanted to come here and I wasn't bothered either way, just that I don't like green bean casserole they have and I asked if they could switch it out for corn or some other vegetable and the wait staff said they couldn't. Oh well, not a deal-breaker. They did not skimp on the Turkey - I had all white meat, and it was delicious. Stuffing was awesome too. They could have had more mashed potatoes and cranberry sauce but overall it was really, really good and we didn't leave hungry.
