Had late breakfast/ lunch with friends at Black Mountain Griddle. It's located in the spot that used to be occupied by Il Chianti restaurant on Horizon Ridge. We went on a Friday, it was not busy at all. The food was good. The service was friendly. Quick for the most part. Ambiance: clean airy diner. I would go back if looking for a quick uncomplicated meal. They do serve dinner a couple of days a week also. The waitress said that the are serving some of chef Rudy's (Il Chianti) pasta dishes which he trained them on before they opened. read more

Came back here for the Chicken Cordon Bleu sandwich, it's been living rent free in my head. This spot is great for brunch, amazing service and it's always clean! My husband got the banana foster waffle, I took a bite of that and it was super yummy! My daughter got the Mac n cheese (obviously had to taste test that as well) and when I say this is probably the best Mac n cheese I've ever had, I'm not exaggerating. Nice and clean when you walk in, we were greeted immediately by friendly staff and seated promptly. After a few minutes our server came with water, took our drink order and took our food order. She warned us that "the kitchen is dealing with quite a few orders" and to expect a wait. Odd but ok. We waited 35 minutes for our food to hit the table and we had to ask a different server where it was to receive it because our server was hiding in the kitchen. This would be understandable in a larger restaurant but this is a diner in a strip mall. When it did arrive, my order was partially wrong (I ordered eggs over easy and they arrived scrambled). Our server took away my entire plate to fix the eggs and I got to sit without food while they fixed it. The portions were very small, everything lacked seasoning, our server kinda left us for dead, and everything costs the same as any other restaurant. First time here and last time. Our server Briana was the best part. She was very nice and pleasant. It was not her fault for what occurred during our visit. We got there at 10:30 and left at nearly noon.. only three people in our party. Put in order and then SEVERAL minutes later we were told they were out of mac n cheese. So we had to reorder. Took forever to get our food. It was so warm inside too. I ordered the East Coast Grilled Cheese. Did not get the onions, no Dijon aoli and definitely not buttery grilled Texas toast. It was so dry and bland. One piece of bacon is absolutely diabolical for a $15 sandwich that wasn't even made correctly. I took two bites and sent it back. Will never return. Do not recommend. We are big about supporting small businesses. We were excited about trying this restaurant. Unfortunately, we will not be returning. The food was good but the service was not. We waited a while for the food and after asking if we could get our coffee the coffee didn't arrive until after we got our food. There were guests that arrived after us that were served coffee before us. We were not given sugar or creamer, when asking for sugar the waitress went to the kitchen, walked around asking other tables if they needed anything but didn't bring the sugar. I decided to take sugar from a table that was pending to be cleaned. By the time the sugar arrived I was more than half way done with my coffee. We also ordered French toast at the same time that we placed our order but they never arrived. When I asked for the check I requested the order be cancelled. The check took forever, and while the manager greeted all the other tables he skipped ours. Finally, the manager brought the check and said that as a courtesy he took off the French toast we never got. That was not a courtesy because we cancelled the order since it never arrived. The food was made with love and energy, the staff was friendly and Steffen the Owner is right there to make sure everything is great! Having a quality oriented location that actually serves APPLEWOOD SMOKED BACON . That warms my heart, the breakfast burrito was the first item i ordered here and it was, jsut right for the price, it was extremely filling, and it came with salsa verde... mind you i walked in at 255 PM and i wasn't sure if i was going to be served. Not only did the burrito fill me.... It made me come back with my wife today! The ambiance is sooooo needed in black mountain!! Come by and try something new every time! They have lots of different events, such as paint and sip evening coming up on December 6! On Wednesdays, the wings are 10% off between 11 and 3 PM and the house sauce is absolutely amazing. Today, 1 server maybe training another, 1 busboy with 80 % of the place seated, the manager had one person just rolling utensils vs helping on the busy floor. The owner greeted me with genuine kindness, and our server, Kaelani, treated me like she'd known me for years. She made sure we had everything we could ask for and more. Then the food came out, and that sealed it. Everything was phenomenally fresh and cooked with real care. If the owner never told me they had just opened I would have thought they were working on their 3rd Michelin star. The outside is crispy but not hard - more like a buttery crispy crust surrounding a firm and tender chicken strip just waiting for some honey mustard dip. We also had the Smash Burgers - one with pepper jack cheese and one with American cheese. First let's talk about the toasted brioche bun. When you dive into this burger the toasted brioche bun envelopes the meat and cheese (and any other veggies and sauce) and sort of arrives in your mouth ready to deliver something so delicious your stomach is going to thank you. The Chef pairs this delicious sandwich with a garlic aioli that's going to make you see this is how a smash burger is supposed to taste. We finished off our visit with the Concha Ice Cream Sandwich and a piece of NY Style Cheesecake. It was as expected sensational. What makes this place so special? I believe it's the quiet and cozy atmosphere (everyone is chowing down on the delicious food) and of course the dedication this family has to providing a delicious meal using quality ingredients as well as a desire to offer each customer a wonderful dining experience. Bacon was not crisp strips as it should be served, especially for a place with the word "Griddle" in it's name. Bacon was small curly pieces that were not crispy. Served with scoop style fries. Breakfast priced at $15. Soft drink is $5 additional. Hamburger is small to medium size, $15 with scoop style fries and nothing special unfortunately.
