I've been coming here for a few months after my husband discovered it. It's set back behind a Panera Bread in a small strip mall type area, so it's a literal hidden gem. The gyro meat is always hot, seasoned and tender. The chicken is delicious and amazing on the chicken salad. Don't let the chicken salad name fool you, it's far from generic and has an amazing garlic flavored sauce, the house made oil & vinegar dressing is great too. They give you so much food too that we've created a dinner hack: get a gyro platter with rice and fries, put half the gyro meat on the rice and take that home for dinner the next day. Other helpers raved about the authenticity of this food; I don't know if it's authentic or not, but it sure is good!!! Portions are huge! Here's the simple recipe for success: gyro, fries, and Greek salad. Get a platter, and you end up with the Mediterranean-American holy grail. Milya has solved it. Good for them, good for us. I've been here a couple times for lunch, once I was alone and slightly skeptical despite the 5 star rating, and also during the lunch rush hour. Both times, they delivered. There was a bit of a wait for food, which could have been a problem if I had a short time for lunch. The restaurant isn't large, and isn't always crowded, so it is what it is. I did a gyro salad the first time, and a gyro platter the second time. The platter was amazing, and on the verge of too much food for lunch. The salad had large chunks of feta and all the Greek salad staples. The fries were done right and seasoned. The gyro wrap as they call it was stacked high. If I have one complaint, the dressing is mostly oil and soaked up into the fries since it's serve on a single section platter. As usual, my chicken shwarma wrap was overflowing with yummy, flavorful goodness. For the price, you still get a generous serving. The funny part of this story is that I called my order ahead on the phone and asked for a "cheesesteak." When I got there, they had prepared mozzarella "cheese sticks." I have never actually had a gyro before, but the owner offered to make me one to try since they no longer have "philly" cheesesteaks. He made it like a philly & it was delicious, and my wife liked it too. She never had a gyro either. This place is definitely a hidden gem. The owner and his family work hard to make sure you enjoy your food and enjoy your experience. The name of the restaurant has been changed to their little daughter's name. The place is simply decorated and clean. Located in a little strip across from Wendy's. The portion is huge and the price is really good! The gyro salads is definitely enough to split between two. The gyro meat is really tender with a little crispy edge, delicious! The salad taste fresh and the dressing goes well with the meat. Great place to come for good value, fresh, healthier food menu. I went to a business seminar this morning at 9am near this restaurant and by the time I got out, my stomach just about ate my liver. I was hungry and it might not have been the right time to write this review. Good news is the place is clean, the decorations left over from the last place I think because the have a mural photograph of the outside of a cafe named "puffins". It was on all the umbrellas (there were like seven of these umbrellas in the photo) except for one that was hastily spray painted over near the kitchen. There is probably a story there. Anyway, I ordered the chicken shawarma, which was a little difficult cause the very sweet guy didn't speak much English. Out came a huge plate of shawarma with fries and a Greek salad. It was very fresh tasting, although something was different. I read later that this is run by a Palestinian family, which makes sense since the only Shawarma I've have was either Lebanese or Syrian. My only complaint is that it's too much on one plate. The Greek salad dressing and the the chicken mixed together making it very tangy. Also he squirted garlic sauce over it. Next time I'd probably ask for it separately. Otherwise, it was very tasty and a lot of food for $10. Great value. read more

This is by far my favorite Mediterranean place in Cincy. The falafel is nice and flavorful on the inside and crispy on the outside without drying it out. My favorite dish is the chicken shawarma platter, tons of flavor in the chicken and the rice. The salad that it is paired with is your normal Greek salad but the dressing is homemade and delicious ! I've gone several times for lunch or dinner but want to give this review shout-out for how they helped me last week. Our office ordered lunch and realized there was not enough, I called milya last minute to see if they could give me enough food for around 15 people. They sure delivered ! We for shawarma and gyro wraps, hummus plates and sides of rice. My entire office raved about how great and hot the food was. I went to pick it up and they were SLAMMED, I could not believe they actually accepted my last min large order. Recently got a new job across the street from this place- and I gotta say, my new office's proximity to this restaurant has to be one of the best attributes of this job! After the first visit, I knew I'd become a regular and nowadays I'm in there like 3 times a week. Everything I've tried has been delicious, especially chicken shawarma! The staff is all so sweet and accommodating too. I will say, there is one small downfall here - they exclusively use disposable plates and cutlery. Makes me cringe to see that much waste. Portions are huuuuuge. I got the gyro wrap with 2 sides because I was starving and I couldn't finish half of the food. I had no idea what I was getting into. The restaurant was fairly busy during lunchtime but service was fast and there was usually a few places to sit. The gyro wrap was tasty but didn't blow me away, I would say it was about as expected, and I could tell the pita was store-bought. The sides of a Greek salad and fries were also pretty standard. Overall a filling meal and I would definitely recommend coming here for lunch if you're in the area. read more

Quick review: Friendly staff, amazing Greek fries, oh yes I'm coming back! --- As my first review in a while, Al-Amir has earned my affection. My husband and I were quite hungry and having plenty of trouble finding options open at 1:30 on a Saturday (too many places only open for dinner!). Then.. the magic words.. my husband asked for a gyro and I instantly remembered that Al-Amir had been on a my list of places to check out. Visions of grape leaves (also known as dolmathes in Greek) and fresh little falafal instantly filled my mind so I quickly re-routed our GPS toward the restaurant. Al-Amir wasn't busy, and I was thankful I knew my food wouldn't take too long. The restaurant was easy to find and parking is simple. The actual cafe has some nice little details we weren't expecting, like a full cafe mural on the one wall and some exposed brick painting on the other. I was also struck by how clean the restaurant was kept. We decided on carry-out to make sure we wouldn't be missing any more college football. We watched our meals carefully prepared by a very polite woman. My husband and I were really impressed with the attention to detail even for a carry-out order. I chose the vegeterian platter which comes with freshly prepared falafal, grape leaves, hummus and a salad. We also ordered a gyro (which was completely STUFFED with thin juicy slices of gyro meat) and an order of the Greek fries which were extraordinary. The portions were certainly sizeable and I feel like Al-Amir provides a superior value. We were told that the restaurant freshly prepares the vast majority of their food including the hummus, dressings and even the patties for their cheese burgers. An outstanding local cincinnati eatery - formerly named al amir cafe and now called milya Ironically I think another yelp reviewer named christopher m (solid name btw) hit it on the had - they have the recipe for success. It is non pretentious, authentic food and a good value served fresh. I literally have not had anything that I dont enjoy from there - the brothers (or i assume they are brothers) that operate the place are absurdly friendly and make you feel welcome everytime. My suggestion is the gyro platter with fries and salad - for 8$ its enough food for two meals, I very rarely am able to finish it It is a must visit spot in cincinnati if you like middle eastern food read more

My only reason for not giving 5 stars is that they can be a little slow during the rush. If they were better staffed, then it would be a solid 5 stars.
