This is an amazing family-run business! I don't typically write reviews, but I had such a great experience that I had to share. I had never been here before, but I was in the area and it was raining really badly, so I figured I'd give this place a try before driving home. I saw that they had great reviews, and I'm so glad I stopped! I ordered the chicken platter, and let me just say... the food ain't make it home because I absolutely DEVOURED it ! The chicken was cooked absolutely perfectly, and the rice was so soft and perfectly prepared. The salad dressing was also SO flavorful! Honestly, this is some of the best Mediterranean food I've had in Cincinnati. On top of the amazing food, the service was incredibly warm and hospitable. You can really tell this is a family-run business that cares about their customers and the food they serve. 10/10 -- I'll definitely be back! read more

Been eyeing this place for a while and finally made it out. Mediterranean is one of mine and my wife's favorite cuisines, but haven't loved a lot of other places we've visited. Made it out here last night before seeing Pericles at Cincinnati Shakespeare Company. We ordered a couple waters, which we didn't realize would be bottled, and some dawali to start. The wait was very short, maybe ten minutes. These were definitely the best stuffed grape leaves I've had, with a sweet and tangy sauce. Nice light appetizer. For our entrees, she chose the falafel platter, and I went for the Arayes, which is a dish we've made a couple times at home recently and has become a favorite. These plates arrived only a minute or two after we finished the grape leaves, so perfect timing. I must say, everything looked incredible. We both took a bite of falafel, then the arayes, then the salad. Everything was very undersalted. Usually, I think of this as a huge strike against a restaurant, but once we added salt to everything, the flavors popped. It wasn't that the food was bland or unseasoned, it was just undersalted, which didn't help the flavors stand out. This is the main reason I did 4 stars instead of 5. The entrees were $18, and came with a big bed of rice and salad, but I felt the protein for each platter was a bit sparse: 5 falafel for the plate, and 5 arayes, which had a very thin patty of meat in each. Both were topped with a delicious cilantro-tahini (I think) sauce, that i would have liked a bit more of, for the sides and the arayes which were on the bottom. The water bottles were $1.50 each, so I'd probably bring our own next time, but that's not a big deal. Overall, most of my issues are small and nitpick except for the salt, so if that was nailed next time, I think this place would be a home run. read more

I had heard great things about five stars Mediterranean from a friend, so I was excited to try it! Right off the bed I noticed they have several vegetarian, gluten-free, and dairy free options and they have all the staples of a Mediterranean menu. It was hard to decide what to get. I chose the falafel burger, and we got the large hummus to share . The falafel sandwich had a good amount of falafel, which was really yummy, but I was underwhelmed by the other toppings.... The description made it sound like it had a lot of toppings, but I really only noticed lettuce and some pickles. It also could have used some more dressing, but I added some hummus, which made it better. It was on the smaller side so I would recommend getting an app if you are ordering one of their sandwiches for dinner-- however, the platter that my friend ordered was a good size and could be split between two people! My husband ordered the chicken Shawarma sandwich and commented it was good but also a bit dry. The hummus was good, but not the best we've tried. It lacks some flavor and the pita was on the drier, thinner side. It did have beautiful presentation with paprika and olive oil! Overall, this seems like a great family-oriented place with good service. It wasn't my favorite Mediterranean food in Cincinnati, but I would try more things on the menu. read more

Nothing like a little family-run eatery on the way back to the airport. Service was super friendly. I ordered the beef shawarma, came with rice and salad, tasted amazing. Shared tabbouleh and hummus with the table. They had a Turkish coffee on the menu, but I didn't want to risk being wired on my flight back home. We went here the day before thanksgiving with family and the owner (I think) went above and beyond to make it a good experience for us even when he was dealing with a hurt back and we hadn't called ahead. He was able to accommodate a large group and the food was incredible! The hummus was so fresh and possibly the best hummus I've ever had and the chicken shawarma was delicious and tender. This is a wonderful family-run business that delivers more than just delicious food. Ahmed, the owner, once went out of his way to gather ingredients to fulfill our order that included tabouli. When I went in to pick up our order, he apologized for the extra wait to make our food and explained he hates telling customers that he is out of a certain type of food. The place was not crowded, thankfully, because the gentleman (owner?) running the place was on his own on this particular day. He let the customers know there was a lot of self-service available (drinks, plates, silverware, etc.) and that he just needed a few minutes to get things ready for service. Everyone was very understanding. We ordered a large Baba Ghannouj was indeed massive, but we managed to eat every last bite. Our eyes were definitely bigger than our stomachs, so I recommended a regular size for a table for two. I ordered the Chicken Shawarma. Food was presented in takeaway boxes, which was unusual, but ended up being very convenient. I was so full of Baba Gjannouj I barely touched the shawarma. That said, Chicken Shawarma was fantastic! Super flavorful, even leftover. YUM! We also got an order of fries which had a nice spice (not spicy) on them. They were fresh and delicious. We took a while to eat. By the time we were finished and paid the bill, we were the only customers in the place. The owner came to our table with an order submitted online (or on the phone) by a person that was not able to pick it up. He said he appreciated our patience and insisted we take the meal on the house. What a generous gesture! The place was super cute and clean and there is parking pretty much right next door. We asked about a few favorite dishes that weren't on the menu, not expecting anything... and he actually sent one of his employees out to get everything before we arrived, just so he could surprise us. That gesture alone spoke volumes about the type of person he is. The food was absolutely delicious... but what moved me most was the way he made us feel like family, even though we were complete strangers visiting from across the country. The staff was warm, the atmosphere simple and welcoming, but the owner's heart is what truly makes this place shine. This was the cleanest place! Everything was kept very clean. The men working were very friendly, and I would guess one was the owner. My daughter and I both ordered the beef shawarma platter. It was fresh and very good. Even though it was between lunch and dinner, around 3pm,on a Monday there were a number of customers. Took my family who's never had Mediterranean food before. We tried the lentil soup, Fattoush salad, hummus and pita and then for entrees the beef shawarma and chicken tawook platters. Everything was fresh and cooked to order. We all loved it. On top of the delicious meal, we had friendly and attentive service from the owner Ahmad (spelling?). He was so warm and kind to us. Easy parking, plenty of seating, great food...the Trinity of nice dining. If you are driving on I75 and this comes up on your food search engine, which is hopefully Yelp, it is about 3 minutes off the interstate and tremendously better than the classically located fast food restaurants. If you work near the Zoo or the P&G technical center, it is worth the short commute for a great lunch. I had to look past the manifest-laden or aspirational restaurant name "Five Star Mediterranean" to give this locally owned restaurant a chance. I see the clever search engine strategy of the name, but I'm more used to this naming convention in tourist towns in Europe.or in old phone books. Remember "AAAAA Auto Repair"'? But I digress. I'll start by saying I really enjoyed the food. The Chicken Shawarma came out hot, was nicely spiced, and had really nice dill pickle slices on the side. They have a very large and appetizing menu and I look forward to coming back and trying other items. Beyond the food, I liked the ample parking at the adjacent public lot and the large interior space. The interior decor and general restaurant organization is effective but not fancy.
