This place used to be a Lawrence staple. What happened?! My girlfriend went to school in Lawrence and we used to love Milton's. They have since moved locations, but in the process, it seems like everything else has gone wrong. We were here this past weekend with some friends for brunch. In all honesty, it might be the worst brunch experience I've had in years. My dish was the breakfast scrambler with potatoes and toast. The eggs were okay but not much meat (it was supposed to have ham, sausage, and bacon). The potatoes were cold and soggy. I took a few bites and quickly decided I'd just stick to toast and jelly, but the toast was cold as well. I'm not the type to send back an order unless something is horrendously bad, but this one would've qualified. We were in a rush so I ended up just taking a few bites of everything. The service was far from great too, as my girlfriend asked for some sour cream to go with her potatoes and got it 15 minutes later when we were ready for our check. Disappointing that things have gone south with this place so quickly. Whatever the reason, I'd definitely stay away. read more

I wish there was a 0 star option. Please don't go here!! I went for the first time on my birthday. The host (& I believe owner) David was incredibly rude. We waited in our car to be seated since it was cold outside, and when we called to ask about our placement on the waiting list we were put on hold and then were hung up on! Then we called back and asked if there was seating inside that we could wait at and the owner said to come on in so we opened the door and he told us never mind and to wait outside in the cold. Finally we were seated and our waitress was nice! She did good getting our food to us and it was pretty ok- she is not the problem. We paid our ticket and hadn't sat there for maybe even 3 minutes talking and the owner came over and said "hey we have people waiting outside" HOW RUDE. We are your customers, and the ones paying you money. Will never go back. read more

The Manager here is extremely rude, unprofessional and just clearly mean. There was a wait, so we walked to get cappuccinos from Wheatfields. My husband didn't want one in a paper cup since Milton's had always had espresso/cappuccino and he wanted to enjoy it fresh and in ceramic. A little picky, but since covid, he hasn't been able to go to a coffee shop/restaurant for this. We get seated at Miltons without our coffee's in hand and my husband orders his cappuccino. Our server advised they no longer have an espresso machine. He doesn't drink coffee so he was frustrated. Our daughter said the "Pig" has espresso so he went across the street and brought one over in a ceramic mug! He was so happy! The male manager saw him walk up and started yelling NO, NO, COME ON GUY!!! Yelling! He was actually yelling this! I asked the manager, in a very nice voice, to come over to our table and talk to us, instead of yelling across the entire room. He IGNORED me! We should have walked out, but we didn't. The server felt bad for us and I could tell she thinks this manager is awful. However, the other server told us it was bad manners. Bad manners??? Miltons got rid of their espresso machine. The FIRST photo on maps is a Yelp photo of a beautiful cappuccino. They didn't care that we had to wait 45 minutes for a table and that we brought in our own coffee to begin with. Bad manners are the manager of the place yelling NO, NO, COME ON GUY across the room and then refusing to talk to us. The entire room was in shock. WE WILL NEVER EVER step foot in Milton's again. Funny haven't reviewed Milton's yet. Been here plenty. Still miss it from the old location. And it has changed with ownership struggles from when it first opened, but that's Lawrence. Regardless, grabbed some lunch to go yesterday and they could not have been more accommodating. Food was ready in less than 5 minutes. Ordered a veggie grill with chicken, asked for gluten free bread and they had it. Very very good sandwich, loved the pesto. Tomato basil soup was extremely good. Was given a refill of ice tea while I waited. Was given 20% off, even though Bixy app wasn't working. Developer for app happened to stop by while I was there, and explained the app. Only in Lawrence. :) Sad they don't serve Broadway Roasting coffee anymore, but have switched to a new roasterie. Milton's Cafe is an excellent, locally owned breakfast and lunch cafe. On this particular occasion I ordered the black bean and cheese quesadilla. Wow!!! So great! Not only was my food fantastic, the servers were very polite & responsive to my needs. One thing I loved about Milton's cafe is the self-serve coffee station. As a big coffee drinker, I like that I can go refill with unlimited refills of whatever flavor of coffee I want! :) read more

Last time I reviewed this, it was still called Loopy's. Now it's called Milton's again. But who cares? Food is so-so. Wait staff is not particularly savvy. And, unless you're coming on a beautiful day and can sit outside, the tiny dining room makes for a too-long (especially for this caliber of food) wait. Go to Global Cafe (less wait, good food) or The Roost (same wait but better food) instead. read more

Hate to do this but 3 stars is being very generous to be honest. God, I hope Milton's had a valid reason to re-open shop as Loopy"s. Highly highly disappointed and word is spreading through town to avoid this place unless you're craving KC's Broadway Coffee. Yes, the best thing about Loopy's is the presense of Broadway coffee. Honestly, this establishment will sadly not last unless drastic changes are made. Not sure if turning Loopy's into a dedicated coffee cafe will save this place. But it may have a better chance vs the current set-up. Sorry, but it lacks in so many area's and ambiance sitting at the top. The food is over priced and ho-hum at best. I dont even want to guess the rent and over head they are paying. What a damn shame! Maybe one day the "real" reason behind Milton's closing will come to light. Tip: don't come into the new Milton's expecting to get the old one - the name may have stayed the same but that's about all that has remained unchanged. My biggest problem with Milton's ver2 is the space - it's loud, cramped, and geared towards a younger crowd. I'm really not interested in enjoying my morning coffee to the soundtrack of the latest sorority gossip. Because of the limited seating, there is a lot of pressure to get in and get out fast. And it doesn't help that the the interior is so small that you can see the crowds of of hungry, waiting customers peering at you as you eat. It's not the most relaxing way to start the morning. That being said, the food has definitely improved. The breakfast potatoes are delicious, sauteed with onions and peppers with a light kick. My eggs benedict - though slightly undercooked (caution to those who are especially egg-conscious!) - was heartier and much more put-together compared to the old Miltons (where I was once served an eggs benedict with a broken hollandaise!), featuring a thick slice of ham, a dense buttery bun, and a little garnish of thyme that rounded out the flavors quite nicely. Plus our server was considerate enough to bring it out on two separate plates when my friend and I decided to split the order. +1 star for improvement on food, but -1 for the horrible space places Milton's dead even at 3 stars. read more

I ordered an original omelet with Turkey as the protein. After coming in from outside due to the cold the two chef's (if you want to call them that), mean mugged me for no apparent reason. I then mentioned to my partner that we should eat at another establishment, but he insisted we stay. When the food got to the table, I took one bite and it tasted like there was fish in it. Not good fish, but a rather nasty fish taste. I then asked my partner to try it and he even said it was definitely some kind of fish. I went to management - they acted as if I was fabricating a lie. She was very investigative about my inquiry and looked over the omelet very closely. Then even another manager came over to our table and said "guys there isn't fish in that omelet." I then insisted he try it, but he said that they had already discarded it. To my point the service was NOT GOOD and I believe it was purposeful. The food was definitely sub-par. If it were up to me I wouldn't of consumed anything there to begin with. read more

Milton's is a locally owned breakfast/lunch cafe near downtown Lawrence. With that said, there isn't a lot of local brunch options for you to check out in Lawrence, this place is a good start. If you're going with a group over 4 people, you're going to be squeezed in, especially if you sit indoors. I recommend the patio seating, there are table umbrellas for you to catch shade in at each patio table too. If you do want to eat outside on their patio then the early bird gets the patio seating, in this case. Patio seating goes fast and it's first come, first serve -- no reservations taken. Milton's decor is updated and has an eclectic feel to it, which is a bonus. The inside is kept clean and the wait staff is friendly and all smiles. I've been satisfied with their food every time I've come, never blown away, but certainly satisfied. As many typical brunch places, this place closes at 2 p.m. every day. I've noticed that coming in early, before 9:30 a.m. and at 12:45 p.m. have been the best times to be able to walk in and quickly get a seat. Otherwise, you'll be waiting for 25-40 minutes. Milton's is continuously packed, especially during the school year. I enjoy coffee with my breakfast, so I was excited to learn that they offer bottomless house coffee for $2.25 and the quality isn't too shabby. They also offer an impressive variety of coffee and espresso options. I typically order their "all american breakfast" with a side of pancakes, they're big and fluffy, and have thoroughly enjoy it. Their home-style potatoes are fantastic. The serve real maple syrup here, which means the syrup doesn't have high fructose corn syrup added to it, and it tastes great. Their cocktails are tasty and reasonable ($6-$8). I enjoy their bourbon hot cocoa, during the winter and fall, Kahlua latte and Irish coffee. Also offer great teas all for $2. Milton's gets their coffee and teas from Thanksgiving Coffee Company and Fresh Coffee Roastery, if you want to buy any in bulk. read more

Note: This review is of the Loopy's sit-down lunch; I did not try breakfast or their dinner service (yet). Loopy's doesn't seem to know what it wants to be, a coffee shop where you walk up to the counter and order coffee, a sit-down restaurant, or a quick "to go" place to grab a lunch while working downtown. Right now, it is all three, and sometimes this results in awkwardness, like when you want a dessert after a meal, but the only choices are the wrapped-up baked goods at the counter for the "to go" coffee folks, which were not offered to us by our server (we had to ask). Loopy's in-house lunch menu right now is just pizza - the pizzas from Miltons, to be precise, which is perfectly fine, since those pizzas were my favorite part of Miltons. They are exactly as you might remember, hot, fresh, and quite good, although perhaps a little on the undercooked side as far as the dough goes. Supposedly Loopy's will be expanding their lunch menu in the weeks ahead to add more items. Decor is modern and pleasant, with a large, light, airy space decorated with artistic doors and windows hung from the ceilings and walls. The dining room is tiny - but there is a huge outdoor area, which will make this place excellent in warmer weather. Service was OK at best. Not rude by any means, but somewhat slow. There was only a single server on duty on a Sunday during lunch, which seemed to be understaffed. The problem of Loopy's no knowing what kind of place it was shows here. My dining companion ordered coffee, and was delivered an empty cup - apparently the coffee is self-service, even for sit-down diners, which is bizarre. When I asked for sugar for my iced tea, the server pointed out the sugar station at the self-serve coffee area, then (kindly) grabbed me a couple packets. Still, weird. Prices are OK, maybe slightly on the high side, but not unreasonable. Pizzas average around 8-10 bucks each for an individual size (only size offered) Loopy's is a work in progress. Consider this 2-star (I'd do 2.5 if Yelp allowed) review the first quiz of the semester, there's still lots of time. I would like to see a bit more clarification as to what the restaurant wants to be, and maybe a few more items on the lunch menu. I look forward to trying breakfast and dinner, especially once the weather gets nice. read more

My boyfriend and I keep returning to Milton's for Sunday breakfast/brunch, hoping it will be better than previous experiences; this is never the case. The staff is always rushed and impersonal. I understand a busy Sunday morning and wanting to seat people quickly, but the staff goes too far. During our visit today, we heard the manager ask the table next to us why they were waiting to order (they had been there for 10 minutes) and when they said they were simply enjoying each others' company, he told them he was "trying to get people in and out as quickly as possible" and ushered their waitress over to take their order. He then proceeded to stand on the patio and just watch everyone, making me feel rushed and uncomfortable. The atmosphere on the patio at Milton's is great and the food is satisfactory, but I will not be returning due to the weird attitude of the staff. read more

Brunch at Milton's was pretty good. I don't suggest going with a group larger than 4, it's a very small place. I ordered eggs benefict, Cali style. I had never had eggs benedict before & I was slightly underwhelmed. It just wasnt very flavorful. However, the others at my table seemed to enjoy their meals. And, I have to add that my meal plus a large hot chocolate was only $12. I think the prices are very reasonable! I would go back & try something else in the future. read more

Nice outdoor seating area. Servers all masked and customers too, when they weren't eating. I would have preferred not to have to go to the self serve coffee area during pandemic - I used a clean napkin to handle the creamer. The eggs benedict were quite tasty with a nice lemon edge to the hollandaise, and a perfectly poached egg. Their fruit cup was better than most, with blackberries, blueberries, strawberries, pineapple, and kiwi. The steak and eggs was good according to my husband. read more

This restaurant is new and has a lot of potential. The setting is beautiful but would be more comfortable for a more warm climate, so opening in the winter probably wasn't the best for them. I think they gave us a happy hour menu, but no offer of a dinner menu, so it was pretty limited. I would have liked to see a full menu considering we stayed until 6pm and had eaten an early lunch that day. I ordered a salad, a beer, and flatbread with carmelized onions and blue cheese. The beer and wine menu is pretty extensive considering the small space - however I wish they would have clarified what beer was on tap or that all the beers were bottled. However, it's possible I missed that. Regardless I was brought a bottled beer, so I was a little disappointed. My salad was plain, nothing to write home about. The flatbread I was just a disappointment. It was basically a piece of bread with a TON of olive oil. I couldn't taste any caramelized onion or blue cheese. To be honest, I could barely see it on the bread either. It just had absolutely no taste to it other than bread. For $8 that seemed like a pricy appetizer. Won't be ordering any of these "pizza's" any more - which means if I see that menu again, I'll have about five things to choose from. Lastly, we were seated in the far back southwest corner of the restaurant. The staff kept going in and out and in and out of this door. At one point even, one guy opened the door and started holding a conversation with someone in the restaurant. This might not seem alarming, unless you know that it was 20 degrees outside with a windchill of 0. Our entire party of four was freezing and had to put our coats back on. I have no comment on the service. It was like the salad. Not bad, but not good either. Just average. The wait staff mostly hung out at the bar counter and talked. That really doesn't bother me like it would some, but I think that the guy was just extremely bored with their only being one other group at the place. I think in the summer time this place could be a bit more enjoyable (and warm). I envision this restaurant expanding to their outdoor patio. However, I don't plan on coming back until I hear their menu/food has improved. I guess I should have clued in on the fact that one of the own wait staff brought in their own lunch from jimmy johns, rather than something from this place. read more

The food here is pretty good, they have nice outdoor seating, and great coffee. The coffee isn't very good anymore since the owner got rid of his barista Nate who is a coffee connoisseur, and got rid of most of his really good servers for no reason. I would never work here again, and I would not recommend it for anyone. Unless you enjoy working in a stressful and hostile work environment, and being yelled at all the time. Came here for graduation weekend. Everyone of the staff was great until our waitress came. She forgot 3 of our party of 10 drinks, gave us enough silverware for 6 people, and totally forgot one of our parties meals altogether. Milton's is my go-to for brunch in Lawrence. They closed their Mass Street location sometime back, briefly, to move to thier current locale, just slightly off the beaten path, but in the center of downtown Lawrence's greatness. The food and menu are pretty much the same as they have always been - tasty, filling, fresh, handmade breakfast classics with an upscale twist - but the atmosphere is more modern urban casual than its previous dark cozy coffeehouse feel several years back. They also have a larger patio, mostly shaded early in the day, which is perfect for a mild spring, summer or fall morning. Back to the food: The French toast never disappoints. They always do eggs benedict well, and I've always enjoyed their house made granola. Biscuits and gravy are tasty here, although my most recent visit revealed the biscuits have shrunken significantly. I've honestly never had anything here I didn't like from the breakfast or lunch menu. Coffee and teas are another highlight of Milton's. Whether you prefer fancy coffee drinks or an Americano, they'll do it right. You can also get fresh-brewed hot or iced teas in a variety of flavors (I usually opt for iced Earl Grey). The owner is ocassionally lacking in his social skills, but the rest of the staff are generally very friendly and attentive. Reasonable prices and fairly quick service top things out. Suffice it to say I love this place. read more

We were able to get the last one outside (more were available inside). Let me say with a bit of a crowd outside you don't even notice the exhaust fan. GREAT! We enjoyed our breakfast. My wife and I enjoyed steak and eggs this morning. The food was excellent, including the rib eye. We found a spot to park near the main entrance and dodged raindrops on our way inside. The waitresses were excellent. Just wish there was more room between the tables and more tables. And more room for the people waiting for a table. read more

My favorite breakfast place. I have tried multiple items on the menu and have never been disappointed. My favorite, favorite is the huevos rancheros - ask for both red and green sauce. The coffee is very good also. I always go during the week, before work, and have no problem getting a table. I understand that on weekends there can be a long wait. Nice people and great food. Unlimited coffee and real maple syrup for pancakes. Other place charge as much as .75 for real Maple Syrup. The menu is comprehensive I can't think of anything I ordered that did not taste good. Have not read the other reviews but I can't imagine what could be negative. Very good food. Went in on a Sunday afternoon for lunch. Unfortunately we did not know until after we were seated (long wait) that lunch is not served on Sundays. We settled for a 2nd breakfast. My husband got the omelette he had wanted - he LOVED it. He got potatoes and an english muffin. He had asked for both to be burnt - they came out very "white". Luckily the 2nd time around they were able to get the muffin actually toasted and the potatoes to have a bit more color on them. He had also ordered a coffee, which the waitress completely forgot, but luckily he was able to flag someone else down for a cup. I ended up with eggs, toast and ham (no sausage -1 star). Egg and toast was excellent. I needed the meat, but not a huge fan of ham, so I only ate one slice. Overall pretty good - not a bad price for breakfast. It was fine, not what I remember the old Milton's vibe to be. Pretty cramped and no high chair for my baby. Couple pet peeves here: cream cheese for lox bagel came in a disposable plastic container- killed any kind of "made in house" vibe that was left and seemed overtly wasteful. Also I hate when I leave a restaurant and my hair and clothes smell like fried food, especially in the morning. This is a problem for me- may not be for others. There seemed to be no effort on the plating and service was "ok". On the positive side my brunch companion ordered an omelet with some modifications and it was not a problem. Amazing "real" food. Their prices are very reasonable. I asked myself "why would I go eat fast food when I can have real food?" The atmosphere was quiet and nice, and the server friendly. The food was decent, but this is by far the worst service I have ever had in Lawrence. Before one of the people in my small group had even finished their food, the manager approached us and asked us to leave because there were some people waiting for a table. Mind, we had waited for our table for an hour. Within ten minutes the manager approached us two more times and was increasingly rude each time. Finally he started yelling at us and spoke to other customers poorly about us until they too approached us to yell. He then called the police to get us off of his property, even though we had not once said anything rude or raised our voice back to him. Again, this all happened within ten to fifteen minutes. I will never eat at Milton's again and I would strongly advise that no one that's looking for a nice meal does either. read more

This was our first visit to Lawrence, and we were very pleased with the area. We went looking for a nice breakfast spot, and after every place on Massachusetts had a 20-30 min wait, we went down the side streets and stumbled upon this amazing gem. The wait was literally 3mins, we had excellent service, and our food came quickly. We were very impressed with the speed of service in a packed place on a Saturday morning. The atmosphere was open a airy, and charming and very clean. We loved it so much we came back the next morning. The French toast was so delicious, tasted like it did when I was a child. The menu had tons of delicious options, and the latte was one of the best I have ever had.... I drink a lot of lattes. Highly recommend this place to anyone. read more
