DO NOT GO HERE. WORST PLACE IN LAWRENCE. They refused to even consider accommodating my friends life threatening allergies. Management was rude about it. And on top of that, while walking by later in the day, an employee slapped that same friends drink right out of their hand and was attempting to fight him until being held back by management. 0/10 absolutely not worth it and should not go here. Don't waste your time or money. FUCK this place. Legitimately should be closed before the end of the year it's so terribly serviced. read more

I'm visiting family in Lawrence and stopped at this local breakfast place ..called ahead because we had a party of 10 ...food was delicious...veggie hash , French toast , steak and eggs to name a few and all were full of flavor . Waitress Marissa was awesome ....brought the food promptly. The honey latte and vanilla latte were ...the only thing to improve is the drinks didn't have ice ..not sure if their ice machine was down or what but overall great food and service. read more

The food was good but before we even took our last bite of our breakfast, the host came up and told us people were waiting for an hour and a half so we needed to hurry and finish. Um...wth? We were not slow, we were not dillydallying. On a Sunday morning people expect to wait. I just think it's bad business practice unless it's somehow posted that you only get 30 minutes from the time you sit down. It's a cute place and the food was good, but we probably won't be going back. I should've read the previous reviews. It appears this is standard practice. read more

Stopped in for a breakfast on a weekday. No wait, thank goodness. Had a breakfast burrito. Craving something a little different and a side of bacon. Eh. It was ok. The bacon was burnt which was disappointing. I prefer crisp all the way cooked bacon. Didn't send it back, cause, come on. Bacon is delicious, just not as much burnt. The burrito was ok. Scrambled eggs fluffy, cheesy if that's your thing. Beans ok. I asked for extra green sauce. Need more seasoning. Overall ok. Love the help yourself as much as you want coffee. I'll be back. Cause I love breakfast. I'll go back to my regular stand by- eggs benny. With a side of bacon read more

Loopy indeed describes the concept here, because your head will spin figuring it out. Is it a bar, a coffee shop, a pizza joint, a breakfast shop? Arrgh.. A little bit of everything and it's all very confusing. The physical space of the restaurant has large open kitchen and glass front and sides. Everyone says it will be wonderful in the warm weather eating outside but I question if this place will make it to that point give its confusing business model. When you walk in there is a "to go" case with a variety of salads, sandwiches and sweets available similar to the Merc, which makes sense since Sulu Teller, formerly of the Merc, is a big part of this place. Unlike a typical coffee shop or to go place, the register is unattended so you have to wait for someone to ring up your order as this is also a semi-full service restaurant. I say semi, because it is again a bit loopy how they go about this. Sometimes it's seat yourself when you walk in and sometimes you are seated. I couldn't quite figure that out but it took a long time to be acknowledged when we walked in and we were told just to take a seat. Also, just to note, you can't buy stuff from the case apparently and eat it there, but again I was also told that you both can and cannot. Like I said-loopy and apparently subject to change. Most bizarre was the coffee "service". They provide the mug and you are supposed to figure out that a series of press pots around the corner have the coffee. After I waited staring at my empty mug, a patron informed me that coffee is do it yourself. Now my head is really spinning. I expect this at a fast food place, but not really at a mid-priced sit down restaurant that provides me a server. The actual menu is limited to a few items for breakfast and pizzas the rest of the day. Note that on the weekends, lunch isn't available until 12pm which I think is just downright bizarre. The pizzas were tasty, but lacked the firm crust one expected from a wood-fired style oven. Most likely the temperature was not set high enough. For around $9.00 a pizza this wasn't cheap and I expected better. We also asked for a small side salad and that was never provided. Couldn't quite figure out if we could get one as it wasn't on the menu, but other patrons had it. Dessert is (maybe) do it yourself. No menu, just look at the case, pick out what you want and unwrap it at your table. Eventually our server agreed to give us some plates for our dessert. Another annoyance, and I know I'm being petty, but they use American Express card folios but don't take American Express. When I pulled out my Amex recognizing the distinctive cover, I was told they don't accept the card. Why be so cheap and reuse those folios? Kinda describes the wackiness here. Also the charge went on my credit card as Miltons. You couldn't reprogram your point of sale? What this place really reminded me off was hotel dining. The hotel bar serves some breakfast, serves some lunch/dinner as well as drinks and coffee. It tries to be all things to all people and excels at very little. Loopy's needs to get on the straight and narrow before I'll return-or at least make their business model and policies a bit clearer. read more

While in Lawrence visiting KU, I certainly didn't think I would run into a place that served eggs benny. I mean, it's a college town after all. I was pleasantly surprised to find Milton's. They've got the standard omelettes, pancakes, etc., but also a nice variety of benedicts. The interior is somewhat small, but it's a little trendy, and they have a nice outdoor seating area as well. It was approximately 10am on a Friday and they were pretty crowded, so we had a short wait. Kind of odd, but I could hear the electric slide quietly playing over the murmur of people dining....not important. I ordered the California Eggs Benedict, which was topped with turkey and guacamole. It was fantastic. The turkey wasn't your standard grocery store lunch meat. It was more like thin sliced Thanksgiving turkey. Being from Texas, I think of guac as more of a Mexican dip than Californian, but I get where they were going with the avocado thing. The hollandaise they used on top was also good. Bad hollandaise can definitely ruin eggs benedict. Boyfriend had the pancakes and they were yummy as pancakes should be. If ever in Lawrence again, I'd be willing to go back to Milton's. read more

The food here is wonderful. We came with a party of 8 and every single person raved about the food they received. I got the eggs Benedict with bacon and tomato. I asked to add guacamole and they did, I highly recommend that addition. It didn't cost anything to add and the guac adds a creaminess that is crave-able. The hollandaise is the best I've had in town. The only reason I did not give it five stars is for the slow service. From start to finish we were here nearly 2 hours, and only 15 of that was waiting to be seated. read more

My sisters and I met with my soon to be daughter-in-law for a celebratory brunch. The food was acceptable but not much more than that. Significantly more disappointing, as I was finishing my Mimosa, the host not only told my sisters they could not have another one, he asked us to leave. We had not yet been there as long as we had waited to be seated. Miltons will not get my business again read more

Miltons 2.0 has some perks, but also a few detractors: To Good: The two times I have visited the new location the quality and quantity of food I have received has been better than at the old location. I love their breakfast wrap, with the house potatoes, but the french toast and Eggs Benedict are also delicious. I have not had lunch or dinner at the new place, so I cannot comment, but this is my favorite breakfast food in town. The move also afforded them an awesome patio space; I'll have to check it out some evening, since they now have a liquor license. The Bad: The space is a lot smaller then before, so you sit very close to your neighbors and the espresso machine, and since the decor is very minimalist, there is not a lot to absorb sound, so it is LOUD. I also miss the beautiful basked goods that were on display at the old location, there is a very small case in this new place, and you cannot see it while waiting (they made a mint off me at the old location since I could not resist a scone as a breakfast appetizer). The Ugly: As mentioned above, the space is much smaller, so if you have a large group, the probability of being seated is very slim during weekend breakfast rush. I wish this was not so, since I love to bring out of town guests here, but with the new arrangement, the 2-4 person tables would all have to clear out before you could set a group of 6 or more. I'll still go, but my out of town guests are just out of luck. read more

It's unfortunate that a restaurant with such a promising waiting staff is run by such a RUDE manager/owner. Today there was a line waiting outside and my girlfriend politely asked what the wait time would be for two and he snapped- "Can't you see I'm already helping someone? Who do you think you are?" (the people he was supposedly helping said "never mind" and left after hearing how aggressively he spoke to my girlfriend) On another occasion my girlfriend and I had already been sat and served food when the manager came over and told (not asked) us to pick up our food and move tables because there was only two of us at a table that was pushed together with another. "I can't have you taking up two tables, there are other people I need to seat" --- But he literally sat us there???? He snaps at his employees often also, which makes me wonder why anyone would want to work for him! Treat your customers and employees better, manager of Milton's. read more

Breakfast here this morning was outstanding and hands down one of the best lattes I've had in Lawrence. Two eggs with grits, toast and bacon. Not the stock plate you might expect. The grits were exceptional... enhanced with cheese I believe and something sweet so a sweet/savory combo. Terrific. The bacon was in small portions and not your typical restaurant overly crisped slab and not a load of greasy fat. Toast was an in-house whole wheat, poppy-seed combination with dipping honey. Superb. Fresh orange slices and grapes to finish off the plate. The grits had a small stalk of rosemary--probably a dangerous thing to do in Lawrence. Fresh herbs, you know :). So, what I don't get is all of the reviews holding this is the new Milton's. It's not. As I pointed out in my initial review, it's just the old owner and some of the staff, but it's an entirely new menu, new location, new vibe, everything. I think they're hitting it fine. Best breakfast in town for the money in my opinion, and yes, that includes Wheatfields, although their biscuits and gravy are fierce. So, lunch and breakfast under the belt, next stop will be here for dinner. Anticipating the space at night with candlelight. This is not Milton's, it's something new and pretty darn nice for downtown Lawrence where mediocrity in dining is the norm. read more

The owner of this establishment is horrid, it's one thing to treat your customers like trash, but I also listen to him berate and belittle his staff every weekend I frequent this restaurant. We waited 45 minutes for our twelve top to be sat, and when he'd only sat half of us, he was already complaining about how we needed to order because he had people waiting, and no one had even been to our table to greet us ... kind of hard to order under those circumstances. If I try to sit on the patio at this restaurant and I kick my flip flops off and sit in my chair cross legged with my feet up he yells at me, he's a complete asshole. I love Milton's, but the owner is horrible. I feel sorry for his staff. read more

I come here to drink. They have a nice happy hour from 4 to 6, plus daily specials. Wine is $3.50 a glass during happy hour. Looks like a decent beer selection too. It's a bit small, but in nice weather the patio about doubles the available seating. It's never been busy when I've been here (afternoons and evenings), which makes it a great environment for socializing and drinking (or eating) without all the noise. I haven't had anything to eat here yet although I'd like to try it! Most of the menu is breakfast foods served all day, plus some salads and sandwiches. I'll be back! Edited to add: they no longer have a happy hour. They do have good daily drink specials, but I miss the happy hour. read more

Simple & Sophisticated. Classy & Casual. The integrity of ingredients, alone, makes Loopy's worth 3 stars for using local, organic family farms and high quality ingredients- "purchased with more love" said when I asked about how they select their ingredients. 95% of the items (only excluding salads, some chef specials, and the coffee) are cooked in a gorgeous open-fire oven where you can see your artisan food being crafted as you chat with friends and the friendly wait-staff. The atmosphere is casual and modern. Still new to town, the space has new enhancements each time I visit- and I visit at least weekly. At night, each table is graced by candlelight. Fresh flowers and fruit add vibrance to Loopy's. I am so excited to utilize the patio when warmer weather returns to Kansas! Now to the food- you can dine-in, select from the grab & go case, or take your coffee buzz on the road. Breakfast- each day you can find a unique porridge, frittata, and chef special in addition to their menu. One of the unique items is the Apple Fragipani- Y.U.M. And I already posted my tip about the granola. Lunch- a different soup each day- like spicy tomato & veggie, or chicken & barley, Morrocan pork-- need I go on? They also host a variety of flatbreads/pizzas perfectly cooked in that amazing oven. Make your own or try some favorites like Sweet Potato & Speck or Spinach & Pecorino. Dinner- adding to the pizza selection, try the smoked salmon or trout. Also- the baked goods have wide range of delectables including gluten-free & vegan options. Also- local beers and a great selection of wines! They offer coffee punch cards. And one day the chef didn't think my pizza was quite what he wanted so he took the time to re-make it AND they gave me an 'Oopsie' card for $5 for my slightly extended wait. So nice of them!! Have I said enough? Because I could say more. And ask about the inspiration for the name: Loopy's. read more

If you are looking for a quick brunch place on the weekends - avoid Milton's at all costs. The restaurant is small so it can take a while to be seated. Service is often slow as well. I always give Milton's second chances, but something is usually off or it takes a long time to get out food. We were among the few tables on the patio enjoying the beautiful weather. I had ordered a latte and my friend had ordered a house coffee. At Milton's they just bring you and empty mug and you have to go up to the counter and fill it. Easy, right? Well it took our server took about 10 minutes just to bring my friend the empty mug. (She had been around our table multiple times by that point.) I had to wait another 10 minutes for my latte to be delivered to *another* table. That customer enjoyed my nice, warm latte and I had to wait until after my food came out. Our server was nice and comped me the latte at least. Milton's food is unique but mediocre. I always get the bacon, mushroom, spinach omelette that comes with the side potatoes. It's super filling because of all the protein. At times I wish they had hash browns instead of breakfast potatoes. If someone really wants to go to Milton's with me, I will. But I'm going to stay away from them for a while. It might not be the restaurant itself it might just be my perception, but I am usually underwhelmed. read more

This has to be one of my new favorite breakfast spots. I came here once a few years ago and i don't think i realised then how good this place was till now coming back as a college student! The prices vary all around so you can definitely find anything i think in your price range. The PANCAKE BREAKFAST BABY is where its at!!! I got it and replaced the eggs for their seasoned potatoes (GET THE POTATOES IF YOU LIKE THEM) its a mistake not too, and it was PERFECT so delicious and filling. I even added banana to the pancakes and it made it so yummy! I also have gotten their biscuits and gravy which was yummy but a bit on the smaller side of biscuits and their veggie hash was good but if your gonna get potatoes just get the seasoned ones there too good!! The only downfall i've had at this place was their scone. I got a blueberry scone and have to say wasn't very impressed. It tasted so flavor less and bland wasn't really worth it but luckily wasn't too expensive, as well at this time my friend got a PANCAKE breakfast order TOGO but when we left and she opened up her container it was FRENCH TOAST instead so she disappointed in this especially since shes not the biggest fan of french toast and was expecting pancakes. We would have asked to switch or get money back but we had already left and were back home when we discovered the mess up. BESIDES that one trip have to say their meals have appeared to be solid and its definitely one of my favorite breakfast spots in Lawrence! read more

Every time I visit my daughter at KU we go to Milton's - food is good but the owner/mgr is very rude as are most of the staff. Always rushing you through your meal, talked very rudely to all customers. If the guy can't handle stress he shouldn't be in that job. The reviews about the manager/owner of this restaurant are all TRUE. I wish I would have read them before I got there. I drove in from KC to meet friends from Topeka for a nice brunch and to catch up. If you have any intention of actually enjoying your meal and the company of friends DO NOT GO HERE. The hostess who is also the manager(maybe owner?) refused to seat us until our 5th person arrived even after we stated we would be drinking and ordering without her. He literally said to us "well people lie all the time so I don't know that you are any different." The waitress was instructed to bring us our ticket as soon as our food arrived. We had intended to order another drink when we were told by the manager/hostess Dave, that we needed to hurry and leave because he had people waiting for a table. We had been at the table for less time than we waited to be seated!! Our plates had JUST been cleared and drinks (alcoholic beverages we PAID FOR) still half full. I HAVE NEVER been told to leave like that. Our waitress was sweet and attentive but she needs a new boss. The food is fine but nothing that makes the way this guy treats customers worth it. I really like this place. Usually a wait at those prime times, but food and coffee are good. Place is cute.

This place used to be a Lawrence staple. What happened?! My girlfriend went to school in Lawrence and we used to love Milton's. They have since moved locations, but in the process, it seems like everything else has gone wrong. We were here this past weekend with some friends for brunch. In all honesty, it might be the worst brunch experience I've had in years. My dish was the breakfast scrambler with potatoes and toast. The eggs were okay but not much meat (it was supposed to have ham, sausage, and bacon). The potatoes were cold and soggy. I took a few bites and quickly decided I'd just stick to toast and jelly, but the toast was cold as well. I'm not the type to send back an order unless something is horrendously bad, but this one would've qualified. We were in a rush so I ended up just taking a few bites of everything. The service was far from great too, as my girlfriend asked for some sour cream to go with her potatoes and got it 15 minutes later when we were ready for our check. Disappointing that things have gone south with this place so quickly. Whatever the reason, I'd definitely stay away. read more

Great espresso drinks and breakfast! My boyfriend and I got here around 130 pm, a half hour before close. Within ten minutes or so we were seated indoors, and we could have been seated sooner if we sat outside. I had never been here before so I ordered the turtle mocha because it looked good. Great decision! It it probably the best flavored coffee drink I've had in Lawrence! I ordered the huevos Rancheros and my boyfriend got the mushroom bacon omelet. I really liked the huevos Rancheros (add chorizo), they had a lot of great and fresh flavors. And this place gets bonus points for having cholula hot sauce on every table. My boyfriend liked his omelet and got the same coffee drink. I will definitely be back to this place. The only critique I could offer is that the egg over easy I ordered was a bit overcooked. Worth trying for sure! read more

Regardless, grabbed some lunch to go yesterday and they could not have been more accommodating. Food was ready in less than 5 minutes. Ordered a veggie grill with chicken, asked for gluten free bread and they had it. Very very good sandwich, loved the pesto. Tomato basil soup was extremely good. Hate to do this but 3 stars is being very generous to be honest. God, I hope Milton's had a valid reason to re-open shop as Loopy"s. Highly highly disappointed and word is spreading through town to avoid this place unless you're craving KC's Broadway Coffee. Yes, the best thing about Loopy's is the presense of Broadway coffee. Honestly, this establishment will sadly not last unless drastic changes are made. Not sure if turning Loopy's into a dedicated coffee cafe will save this place. But it may have a better chance vs the current set-up. Sorry, but it lacks in so many area's and ambiance sitting at the top. The food is over priced and ho-hum at best. I dont even want to guess the rent and over head they are paying. What a damn shame! Maybe one day the "real" reason behind Milton's closing will come to light.
