Popped into this historic hotel on Mass St. on a Thursday for $7 martinis. Cool space, friendly servers and wonderful martinis. Sweet and savory, classic and trendy many options available. I had a classic dirty vodka martini. My friend had a blueberry something. For our second round I tried the lemon drop. All were delicious. Ok where do i start. Graduation menu only and sooooo overpriced. Was hoping for bar food but not the case. So lets start w some observations of menu and. Dining room. Someone needs to realize it is not winter and remove the paintings of birds sitting on a branch w snow. Ok now for the menu which was very limited. Observation wagyu burger was 19.00 but if you sub a beyond patty the price becomes 25? Chicken marsala for 34.00 and salmon 36.00. Ok so i ordered a caesar salad w chicken and tomato soup. Chicken was very dry and overcooked and some of the edges were like jerky. Soup tasted like pasta sauce and had the consistency of a thick one at that. Needed a lot of salt as it was under-seasoned It is the first tomato soup i have ever had that when you get to the bottom and take a spoon of it and the remaining soup keeps its shape and there is a bare spot where i took the spoonful! What? The soup you buy at dillons in a plastic container tastes 10x better than the soup here. Someone needs to learn how to grill juicy chicken and make soup. Not going back. Save yourself and go elsewhere as there are so many better places on mass st. read more

Stayed at the hotel for five days. Service was excellent atmosphere clean and spacious. Completely in love with their cauliflower appetizer. Was so savory felt like I was eating Buffalo strips. My husband and I came to Lawrence last week from Oklahoma to celebrate our 4 year anniversary and decided to reserve a room after a friend from Lawrence told us it was a historic spot with decent food. The room wasn't awful but could certainly be improved. The food and service however, was a completely different story. We came down for lunch after checking out and starting what was supposed to be a very special day. I ordered the chicken panini, my husband the waygu burger. The first of our seemingly never ending problems with our lunch was the EXTREMELY raw chicken. It was not only pink but also cold to the touch. I politely asked my server for it be remade. she was seemingly annoyed but complied with my request. After a nearly 25 minute wait, I received my panini which was burnt to near charcoal, no exaggeration. I almost felt like it was a sick joke. I asked to speak to the chef who I believe was named Paula, an older lady with white hair. I asked if she had cooked the food and felt this was acceptable to be served in which she replied "It looks fine to me what is the problem?" I told her about the raw chicken then the seemingly purposefully burnt remake in which she responded with "If you don't like it find somewhere else to eat, I have other things I need to deal with at the moment", followed by a very nasty remark, "you're not as important as you think you are." She took my plate without asking and tossed it in the trash before storming into the back. I asked to speak to somebody higher up but was told there was nobody in and to call back the following day. I have never been so disgusted by a dining experience in my 43 years of life. The meal was compensated but that does not make up for the AWFUL experience my husband and I had here. Luckily his burger was not nearly as dreadful as my sandwich but was cooked to a near well done when he ordered a rare. Do NOT eat here. WE WOULD GIVE 0 STARS IF POSSIBLE. Dinner at the Eldridge Grille was amazing! Mark Jones, the new Executive Chef, is an artist. The layers of flavor in each dish is what I enjoyed the most. With each bite I tasted another aspect of the dish. The scallops were delightful! I had the short ribs, which were tender and full of flavor. The smashed potatoes I could eat all night. And be sure to end with the Banana Bread Pudding. Everything we tasted was awesome. Truly a wonderful experience! read more

We loved eating here. Such a pretty location and our server Ella was attentive, knowledgeable and super friendly. The food was very good. A shout out to the pastry chef. Full transparency - we went to the Eldridge for their Thanksgiving sit down dinner and had a great experience. So when reservations opened for their Christmas dinner, I made reservations for my husband and myself, and my father in law. Unfortunately our Christmas experience was terrible. First - we arrived early for our reservation. Not a problem - we're happy to wait at the bar and have a cocktail. Except there was no bartender. Had to wait for about 10 minutes for him to come back to the bar. Not a big deal, but not great. Second - evidently we confused the front of house host desk staff by arriving early. After waiting about 20 minutes at the bar and being told twice that our table was "almost ready" (NOTE - there were maybe four or five parties seated in the entire restaurant at this time - pretty empty), my husband went BACK to the host station to ask about our table. Only to be told that they had "lost" our reservation. Turns out they had given our table away because they couldn't remember my name (perhaps if you were that confused, you could have walked over to me at the bar, five feet away, and asked for my name? Seems simple enough. SO...finally we are seated. The service was SO SLLLLLLOOOOOOOWWWWW. I realize it's Christmas. But there were wait staff...but apparently not everything was functioning smoothly in the back of the house ??. We got our first course - lobster bisque (with no lobster evident...), and salads. Then it came to ordering our main courses. I asked our waitress if they had medium rare prime rib. I didn't think this was a complex question...but evidently I was wrong. The waitress explained that they cooked all of the meat ahead of time (of course you do...it's a prime rib, cut from a roast.) So you can't order it any other way but medium or medium well because....wait for it....and I'm quoting here..."the kitchen staff can only COOK it...like, um....they can't...like...UNCOOK IT. Understand?". Yes, dear...I understand how meat is prepared. Hubby and I ordered the prime rib anyway. It arrived at the table cold...although fairly close to a medium rare, I will say. Let me say that I love prime rib and order it often and in many different places. I have NEVER gotten a piece of prime rib sliced so THIN for the amount of money I was paying. We were paying $46 dollars per plate for this meal. My prime rib and my husband's prime rib could not have been more than 1/4" thick. And cold. No au jus for dipping. No gravy for our ice cold mashed potatoes. The prime rib main course was terrible. For the dessert course we opted for Italian lemon cake and chocolate cake for my FIL. Overall, terrible value for what we paid for this. I probably won't repeat this mistake. read more

I really love the Eldridge hotel, but the restaurant isn't as awesome. I have never had good or fast service while being there. For instance, I went there for brunch recently and and it took FOREVER just to order and FOREVER for our drinks and food to come out. We ordered everything at once just to be sure we could get it all as soon as possible. Our waitress didn't seem to be having a good time with us but the goal was to be in and out as quick as possible since we had plans to head to Memorial Stadium for the football game. There were not a ton of options on the menu and I was confused why we needed to ask our waitress for prices of mimosas and bloody mary's -- should they not always be the same? I'm not sure but our waitress didn't even know the price. Went ahead with the mimosas anyways and they didn't come out until our food did. The slow service really puts this rating down for me. read more

Ate there yesterday for Thanksgiving. We were disappointed! They were not that busy but the wait staff must have been poorly trained. When our salads were served the waitress started picking up the bread plates until we reminded her that we needed bread. Bread was brought out but after 5 minutes we had to ask for butter. We had not finished our salads when our entrees were brought out and shoved in front of us. My entree's sauce appeared to have been dried to the plate and the meat was barely warm. The other diners said their turkey dinners were barely warm also. A bad experience. Kitchen and wait staff need revision. Not the usual fare. read more

Food here is always amazing. Their back bar seating area is great for a small, private group. Reasonable corkage fee too, if you want to bring your own wine. They have a great wine list, so BYOB is not needed, just our preference. Our waiter, Jake, was super friendly and hilarious. I had their Halibut and it was delicious. Friends all raved about their food. I've lived in Lawrence for 25+ years and the Eldridge is alway a sure bet for food, value, and atmosphere for a nice dinner out! It's been a few years since we've been back to the Eldridge. Prior to tonight's visit the service and food was always terrible. That has definitely changed! There is a new chef and new management and we thoroughly enjoyed our evening tonight. The food was incredible as well as the service. Fantastic food, great service and ambiance. New chef Mark Jones has really elevated the menu and added some great new dishes. We enjoyed our Brussel Sprouts, the Carbonara had yummy crispy pancetta and the Bolognese was also good. Finished the meal with chocolate mousse with strawberry coulis with allspice topped with coriander whipped cream and nuts. Lovely taste explosion in your mouth with a great finish. Chef Mark Jones the new executive chef. Brings a fresh palette to the table. His flavor profiles are impeccable. My favorite dish out of everything on the menu was the grilled corvina sea bass with farro, sweet fire shrimp was my favorite small plate. You absolutely have to try the fried brussels, top notch!!!! Finally, not your same old Eldridge bar with food choices that have been cycling through for decades now. In place solidly after three visits, I'm here to advise the local crowd that's been avoiding the place for a long time, and sometimes for good reason, that the time to return is now. How good is it? I think it's moved from typical Lawrence to top 2-3 to my mind for good service and drinks. There's definitely something very good going on here and I plan to be a part of it in the future. With so many choices in town, there's simply no reason to keep returning to a few places that can be spectacular or hit and miss. We went the first weekend with the new executive Chef Marks' menu. it was a truly delightful and incredible flavor experience. The beat salad, smashed potatoes, and fire shrimp appetizers all had unexpected but cohesive flavors and textures that i have never had the pleasure of eating before. DO NOT COME HERE. This is my third time being here within the last 6 months. Not sure why I keep coming. Never again though! We were only one of two tables when we ordered and we waited over an hour for our food and almost closed our ticket and left. Our server, Drew, was attentive and great. He agreed that our food was taking a ridiculous amount of time and was very apologetic. He was frustrated as well. Food..."There are two tickets ahead of yours right now" an hour later. And we were the second table in the whole place. Then, my eggs Benedict came with one hard boiled egg and one egg just completely uncooked. The restaurant and bar in the Eldridge Hotel have been closed for renovation for months. They are now open. The restaurant, formerly called TEN, is now called the Eldridge Hotel Grille. The bar, called the Jayhawker, is now also open. But there is a second smaller bar on the other side of the restaurant. The restaurant's menu is available in the restaurant or in either of the bars on the first floor of the hotel. The restaurant's menu is traditional American. But some of the preparations are innovative, and the quality is absolutely excellent. We ordered the cheese dip appetizer. It was excellent. The Faroe Island Salmon was very fresh. I asked for blackening of the fish, and indeed they did it just right. The mashed sweet potatoes were prepared in an innovative and first rate manner. The asparagus was fresh. The Caprese salad was very good. We asked for shrimp to be added, and the shrimp were excellent. The service was much better than at must restaurants in Lawrence. Clearly the servers have been trained very well in a manner more usual in bigger cities, such as Kansas City. The wine list contains more expensive wines than common on most Lawrence wine lists, and there currently is no happy hour discount or house wine. There are a few moderately priced wines by the bottle or by the glass on the wine list. We would have been somewhat happier, if there also had been an inexpensive house wine or happy hour discounts. The server told us those might be available in the future. Since they had just opened, they had not yet considered such matters. read more

The Eldridge House overall is a good restaurant, but there were definitely somethings that could be improved. First, when I checked in with the host the ended up being my waiter as well, which isn't an issue but he canceled my reservation instead of checking our party in, so I did not get my OpenTable points. He took a long time bringing us silverware, which he brought with our food. He tried to order members of our party at different times (which I've never seen in a restaurant previously, restaurants take a parties order at the same time); he also took a long time refilling our drinks. My wife and I both ordered steaks medium rare, the steaks arrived medium well, fortunately the flavor of the steaks were very good so we didn't send them back. It was a good restaurant with good prices but the service I received was not great. I will probably try the restaurant again, maybe it was just a bad evening. read more

FYI. Here on a Friday game day at 9:45 pm. Was told the kitchen closes at 10 so no food for you!

So, a few issues with this place. First, there's a sign in the window saying that they're still in the process of getting their liquor license, so they can't serve alcohol. Ok, minor inconvenience, but a quick trip to get wine a few blocks away serves as a cheap alternative since they're allowing BYOB. Ok, fine. We had looked online and saw numerous things on the menu that looked delicious. Only one issue...the menu handed out has a fraction of the amount of food (5 starters instead of 14, 3 house specialties instead of 10, etc.). We mention these discrepancies to the waiter, who apologizes and says they've been so popular since they opened, they keep running out of food. I guess it's easier to print a new menu with only 33-50% of what you advertise on your website? Perhaps just order more ingredients instead. With very little to choose from, two of us got the pesto gnocchi. It was ok. Mine has more chicken than gnocchi, and my wife's order wasn't very big since she held the chicken. My daughter thought her roast beef sliders were good. Of course she had a roast beef sandwich earlier in the day. However, as there was nothing else on the reduced menu she could eat, she didn't have much of a choice. Probably won't be back. I'm guessing something else will be here the next time we're in town. read more

We had lunch at the Eldridge yesterday and really enjoyed it. The atmosphere was very nice and laid back, and it is a beautiful place to share a meal with a friend. I had the spinach, chicken, fruit salad and my friend had a cheeseburger with sweet potato fries. Food was delicious and our server was great. No complaints. read more

She told us it would take a bit longer since they were out of martini glasses. Totally understandable. I'll preface this bad review by saying that the service was fine. A 10 minute wait would have been forgivable. 30 minutes was not. When we finally did get the drinks, they were awful. I ordered the pecan pie martini. I expected it to be sweet, but this was unbearable. My friend ordered another type of martini, which also turned out sickly sweet. We paid the check and left our drinks unfinished. Too bad. I understand COVID is an issue but it did not affect our order at all. My boyfriend ordered a burger and fries, it came out fine. I ordered wings with ranch & bbq sauce on the side. Our server didn't bring the food. My wings came drenched in sauce. I didn't like the sauce. The server never once came to check up on us, or ask how everything was. He only came back to give us the check. Food was overall very good but our service was very bad. Still tipped 20% because I do realize we're in a pandemic. Horrible experience this evening at the Eldridge restaurant. Came around 5:30 for dinner with 8-10 people. We did not have a reservation knowing we have come in the past early and has never been an issue getting a table. The manager informed us we could not be sat because we did not have a reservation. I asked if they were booked with reservations, the hostess said they don't have many at all. They could accommodate us with two five tops, but we can not push the tables together. Mind you the dining room side was completely empty, seriously not a single person. We said we are planning on drinking and grazing on food so the reasoning of kitchen being over whelmed made no sense because we did not care when the food came out. We expressed that with hostess and manager but they did not care. We were literally treated like garbage, which is too bad because we would have spent a lot of money there tonight but the manager was too put out by a large party that literally wanted to graze on food and have cocktails and more than ok with how ever long food took. Bottom line I completely understand if they were booked with reservations and shame on me for calling ahead but to turn down paying customers when there was no real reason is poor management. We all wanted to support a local restaurant but unfortunately none of us will be returning. read more

First time back since they reopened after the remodel. The dining area is much more open and inviting. Menu looked pretty thorough, priced as expected for a nice hotel restaurant. Very impressed with the club sandwich, the sweet potato fries and the dip that came with those fries. I'm not a fan of sweets usually but this sweet creamy dip (maybe with marshmallow and real cream in it?) and fries combination, paired with that club sandwich, was too good. I rarely eat at "American" food restaurants because they can be so bland but this meal was an exception. It wasn't a healthy meal, but sometimes you gotta make an exception! There are some original fixtures and features in the dining rooms from the original hotel build (or at least appears to be the case) which made the atmosphere more enjoyable. It was lively-lots of people at the bar having a good time. It was a Sunday night. My parents were visiting from out of state, so we took them there and they loved it. read more

Came here just last night for the Eldridge's Valentines special menu. The place was absolutely slammed! Though my chicken spiedini was great, some of the food at my table came out rushed and our server was clearly stretched thin. My five star rating comes entirely due to the fantastic management at this establishment. Dylan, thank you for rectifying what would have been a much less than average meal and for keeping our Valentine's night from ruin! A manager that can closely listen to a patron and is able to perfectly read the situation to get things quickly fixed is one to hang onto.
