8 pm.-10 pm: Late happy hour starts and it's MUCH cooler on the roof of The Oread at that time…read more The view is amazing anytime but the sunset.....it's spectacular. There's no blender on the 9th floor so don't ask for a blended drink. There are a few appetizers on the menu and they are quickly brought up from the bar in the lobby. We tried the pretzels and they were really good, hot and fresh. Relaxing to hang out and meet new people. There is a sail covering over part of the bar, but honestly, even though it was 100 degrees during the day, it was quite pleasant at 8 PM on the roof.

Hands down the coolest patio/bar/viewing spot in the entire city, hands down. Nothing close, and…read moregetting here you'll see the city and KU Campus as you've never seen it before. There's a small bar serving quality beers, wine and mixed drinks to boot, plenty of outdoor seating and on the weekends usually a band from 7-10 p.m. Typically a $5 cover for the latter, well worth it in my opinion. A large tarp covers a good part of top in case the sun is still out and you want in the shade. To get here, take the elevators around the back side of the front lobby to the top floor (8th... I think). From there it's one flight up and through a set of doors. Added bonus: because you're so high up, in the summer that means no biting insects you'll get if at ground level, and I've never been here when there wasn't a light breeze, so cooler. And the views, well. Where else can watch planes taking off from Lawrence's tiny airport, see the cars streaming along I-70, and the tops of downtown, the gazebo in South Park, look down into the football stadium and more? Nowhere. Simply worth coming as a destination in and of itself. No excuse needed. Great spot to simply sit and watch the sun go down and enjoy a beverage. Very highly recommended.

The TV outside was blasting sports commentary, which I could have done without. But the staff and the happy hour options definitely made our girls evening a hit! Check it out!

So here's the tea…read more Emily was an amazing bartender. Like, one of the best I've had in a long time. She was attentive, kind, and clearly holding it down even when management was on some weird decisions. Now for the food... meh. The arancini balls were dry. I was excited for that green goddess sauce but it was way too salty. Not a vibe. The stuffed mushrooms though? Fire. My man tore his up and said they were the best part of the meal. The crab had that lil fishy kick to it, but like... it's Kansas, what we expect? We got the rosé flight--honestly the highlight. $12 well spent. No complaints there. He had the smash burger which was so good... but I'm realizing now it came without the onion topping. Probably forgot it. Not a dealbreaker but still. Now let's talk about the wild part... I asked for some marinara for the arancini and the manager had Emily bring me cocktail sauce. Not a joke. Cocktail sauce, y'all. Like... shrimp dip. Not even close. It's giving confusion. You got a whole ragu on the menu but can't pull together a marinara or even a basic tomato sauce? That ain't it. And instead of coming over to explain or offer an alternative, the manager had Emily do it? Smh. Not cool. But because Emily was dope, we'll probably be back. Wednesday wine nights might see us again just hoping management gets it together. If I wanted mystery red sauce, I'd be at Taco Bell. This is a wine bar. With tapas. Let's act like it.
