So here's the tea. Emily was an amazing bartender. Like, one of the best I've had in a long time. She was attentive, kind, and clearly holding it down even when management was on some weird decisions. Now for the food... meh. The arancini balls were dry. I was excited for that green goddess sauce but it was way too salty. Not a vibe. The stuffed mushrooms though? Fire. My man tore his up and said they were the best part of the meal. The crab had that lil fishy kick to it, but like... it's Kansas, what we expect? We got the rosé flight--honestly the highlight. $12 well spent. No complaints there. He had the smash burger which was so good... but I'm realizing now it came without the onion topping. Probably forgot it. Not a dealbreaker but still. Now let's talk about the wild part... I asked for some marinara for the arancini and the manager had Emily bring me cocktail sauce. Not a joke. Cocktail sauce, y'all. Like... shrimp dip. Not even close. It's giving confusion. You got a whole ragu on the menu but can't pull together a marinara or even a basic tomato sauce? That ain't it. And instead of coming over to explain or offer an alternative, the manager had Emily do it? Smh. Not cool. But because Emily was dope, we'll probably be back. Wow...so disappointing! Perhaps choosing an $80 ribeye at a college town restaurant was my bad to start with...but man it was; - Thin - Tough - Lacked flavor - Felt like I was eating a flank steak Burger my son had was solid...but not $28 solid. NY strip my other son had, was $40 cheaper than mine and tasted better...but not great. Awesome vibe, great wine...but at the end of the day, for the price...need to step it up A LOT!! We had a reservation for dinner but were placed at a high top near the bar. Manager/Host threw a temper tantrum when we asked for a table. We were told it was because of a cold evening, all the outdoor reservations were moved inside with too many large parties to accommodate; so they essentially overbooked. Not what I would expect when making a dinner reservation nor what I would expect from the host. The server did apologize and told us the management often overbooked the dining room. The wine list was rather extensive and took us a long time to make a selection. We were then told our selection wasn't available and were given a significant up-charged substitute which we declined. The wine menu was out of date, weird for it being on an iPad. There were no cabs on the menu for less than $100/bottle, very frustrating. It was an incredibly loud dining environment. Would not recommend for anyone wanting to enjoy a conversation, I found myself trying to lip read the other couple we were with. Food was average. Our order was messed up and half the party had to wait while the mistakes were corrected. Blame kept on getting shifted from management to servers to kitchen staff. Dined in the other night. Got there in time to try out the Happy Hour Drinks and snax. The Limoncello is my drink of choice and the Dive Manhattan my husband's. We had a new girl wait on us and she was fantastic. Our drinks were good, service better. We had the Mediterranean Meatballs and Sugar Snap Peas from the happy hour menu. Those meatballs were flavorful and tender a super good choice. Also got the Sugar Snap Peas from the HH menu. This is my new FAVORITE appetizer. They have a wonderful crunch and are cooked in this butter combo that makes them really tasty. We ordered a salad and burger to share for dinner and they did not disappoint. They have outside seating for a more casual atmosphere and inside is more intimate. Both are lovely places to sit. I recommend!! read more

The lady who brought us to our table walked by multiple times but did not talk to us. None of the other waiters even acknowledged us, it was very surreal. To be honest, it was as if we were invisible. When we finally got the hint, we got up and the table next to us noticed something was off about our service. We walked to the back exit and passed multiple workers with our stuff and no words were said. (The back door is not clearly marked so we walked through a party room to get to the exit.) *For context there were maybe six tables and we could see three of the tables paying their bill, it was NOT busy enough for them to completely avoid us.) Amazing food! Excellent service! Beautiful ambiance and interior. Everything was perfect! The restaurant has a nice menu selection. Plenty of yummy plates to try. Lots of healthy options. We came here for some appetizers and desserts and drinks. We ordered the Burrata and the charcuterie board (not on the menu) as appetizers. We also ordered several of their signature cocktail drinks off of the menu. Everything was so good! For dessert we tried the Meyer lemon eevo cake, the lemon sorbet, and the tiramisu. Everything was amazing! The service was excellent. Everyone was professional, super friendly and welcoming, and the food all came out quickly. I highly recommend this restaurant for dinner or just drinks. It was packed on a Wednesday night! So make reservations. Prices are reasonable. Our server was very polite, explained things well and gave us a warm welcome & great experience for it being our first time. The garlic shrimp was really good, garlic was perfect and not overbearing. The shrimp was cooked great and flavored perfectly. My lady loved the seafood mac! The cake was good as well, we thought it would be better topped with a chocolate drizzle and maybe warmed up but it was still delicious! And the espresso martini was spot on. Have not been here in a while but went last saturday w some friends. Great service,drinks and food. Took a chance on pork stir fry and was amazing, even better than 2 thai places downtown which I love! We had a few apps as well the tuna wonton and burrata both excellent. Will be back and make it part of our rotation. Was a little worried that it wasnt as busy on a sat night but was around 745 so we will see. Give them a try and you wont be disappointed read more

We had a pleasant time eating at Wine Dive + Kitchen Lawrence location for a Valentine's Day celebration. We were sat towards the wine room and restroom which was fine but a bit cramped. The service started off with an iPad to select drinks and wines in which we chose the Fattoria Lavacchio Chianti Puro 2020 and Easton Zinfandel Amador County 2016 to start off. Unfortunately, they were out of the bone marrow Valentine's Day a la Carte menu so we ordered our entrees right away. The lamb chop was perfectly cooked at a medium temperature and did not give the distinctive gamey smell that is typical for this kind of meat. The jelly that was paired with the lamb chops felt more of a mint jelly rather than Jalapeño and a bit sweet for my preference. Broccolini and polenta were a bit under seasoned but the broccolini had a nice char that added to the flavor. Our other dish was the duck breast which was also perfectly cooked to desired temperature of medium well but a bit fatty for our preference. The parsnip and apple puree were a perfect balance of sweet and spice. We ended the night with a Manhattan (not pictured) which was a bit light and not liquor forward. Cocktails seem to be best bang for your buck if you visit during happy hour. Overall, a good experience for our date night and impressive food that left us wanting to come back for more! read more

Came here for happy hour on a weekday after coming here for dinner a couple months back and loving it. The spring weather beckoned me to sit on their patio and w joy my book but then they had the Bob Ross channel on which I delightfully watched for a bit. Usually don't like TVs at restaurants which given the option would still do away with it, but Bob Ross redeems it for me today. I ordered the HH Chardonnay and their burrata appetizer which was $3 off for HH. I wish I remembered the name of the Chardonnay because I would not get it again, but then again it was probably the cheapest bottle they had. But the Burrata plate with figs, charcuterie meats, pesto and grilled bread, divine! The appetizer was basically a meal and I had enough to take a little less than half home. This was my second time having Tyler (I think that's his name) as my server and he is as great as they come! He knows just how to make enough conversation while also allowing you to enjoy your meal and your company and also is so knowledgeable about every detail of the menu food and drink. This restaurant had been one of our favorites in Lawrence. But it has a policy that we find to be VERY OFFENSIVE. They systematically upcharge for substitutions. The server will not tell you in advance about the substitution, and it makes no difference whether you are substituting a more expensive side or a less expensive side for what is normally included with the entree. They will ALWAYS add on an unexpected upcharge. This has happened to us too many times to be an accident. So here is my advice and what I will always do in the future. If there is an upcharge for a substitution without being told by the server in advance, either REFUSE TO PAY the upcharge, or subtract if from the server's tip and inform the server why you did it. It happened to us again tonight, and the server didn't even know about it, until we got the bill. Alternatively tell them in advance that you will not pay for unexpected upcharges. The best restaurants never do this. One other restaurant in Lawrence had been doing that, but they stopped. We will go back there. read more

We went here for a birthday celebration & it did not disappoint! We caught happy hour, which was from 4-6 - GREAT! We tried several drinks & apps that we might not have (white martini, Negroni, Dive Manhattan - all delicious) and meatballs plus Burrata plate. Yummy! The bahn mi sandwich is good & spicy. The steak frites were cooked perfectly & great cuts. The wild boar Raghu was very good too. French onion soup - very well done - haven't had this good in years! Finished off with tiramisu - served in a glass, it was divine. Lots of expresso & light cream. The singer started playing at 645, just as we were finishing but she sounded great. We went to the Wine Dive + Kitchen for a special occasion (my birthday) and the dinner itself was fabulous! The cook on my lambchops was absolutely perfect, and the polenta was delicious! My husband's steak was also cooked to perfection. The lemon creme brulee with a blackberry reduction was a bright delicious bite of flavor. What a lovely way to end my day of celebration. We went here because it has good reviews, but nothing was good about our visit. We had a reservation, and were greeted by front of house staff who were unfriendly and dismissive about the lack of table for us. I've rarely met hosts who were this hostile and unhelpful. After eventually being seated, we were ignored by servers until finally managing to order drinks. The wine ordered by one of us was out of stock, the backup choice was taken by another table, the third choice was also out of stock, and this whole process took at least 45 minutes. A fourth option was finally found. This is supposed to be a place specializing in wine, and we were ordering from their standard "by the glass" menu, not anything unusual! Not only did drinks take forever, but our appetizer took 1 hour and 15 minutes. By the time our main courses arrived, we were starving and were served some of the worst food we've had in a very long time. Pastas were greasy and gross, seafood tasted off, and how can you even mess up steamed vegetable side dishes? This whole disaster of a meal took almost 3 hours, in a noisy, uninviting room with no real ambiance. It was clear that staff did not care about their work or the customers. I'm totally down with the rave reviews coming in for Wine Dive. Disclaimer: I know some of the Yelpers commenting here and most of them really know their stuff so I get it. I trust their opinion and they delivered. I came on a Wednesday around 5:30 p.m. expecting to be the only person in the place--yea, apparently I didn't get the memo. About 1/4 full, and now make that 2/3 full when I left an hour later. Not exactly high dining time of the week and evening in this city so the word has gotten out. What I like about WD&K, besides the wine selections, which I limited to a white and red from the same vineyard in Italy: Massimo Rivetti of the Piemont region of Italy, an area known for top-rate wines. Sublime. What I like about the food: limited experience in only the saffron risotto and Brussel's sprouts, but noticed equal treatment. No overkill on the butter, salt, sugar, truffle oils, etc., etc. too many high dining types are offering. Thanks, I like to taste the honesty of the ingredients, prepared with respect and not over-delivered. Can you get Brussel's sprouts in KC with blue cheese, pancetta, truffle oil, candied cranberries, etc. until it's almost beyond recognition? Yes, and sometimes that's OK, but I prefer what I had here. Same with the risotto. No funny business, just the ingredients standing on their own, the way I prefer it. YMMV. I found the prices to be totally in line with the quality, and actually surprised the wines weren't a tad more. I can live with that. For what I received, I was completely satisfied with every bit of the meal, including my server who was prompt, polite, helpful, and out of the way when it counted. No hovering, no "how is everything" too many times, etc. Side note: I walked off, apparently happily sated, minus my credit card and picked it up the following day at the bar. Appreciated that for sure. Now it's my job to return, and soon I shall. If you like fine dining and quality wines, the options in the city have definitely improved with the opening of WD&K. read more

The Wine Dive Kitchen has consistently given us great food, service, and Happy Hour prices. We go there most Fridays as we have found it is the best Happy Hour in Lawrence. Among our favorites are the appetizers Coconut Shrimp, Ahi Tuna Nachos, Calamari with cocktail sauce and pesto. All of their food is top quality, as is their service. It is always clean, well organized, and provides a wonderful ambiance for conversations with friends and family. read more

The happy hour is unbeatable in my opinion - the marg is $7 and has a delicious rim, the edamame is $5 and there is plenty more on there from 3-6pm. The staff is always attentive, knowledgeable, and fun. The restaurant is cute, has plenty of tables, a couple booths, and bar seating. There is also a patio out front and a private room inside that can hold like 30 people or so. I hope this restaurant is here to stay! read more

I love coming here!! I've been here at least 3 times and it's my favorite dinner restaurant. Brett and Tori have been my server several times, they're so friendly and quick on their feet. (Coming from a fellow industry worker) it's clear the entire staff knows what they're doing and can answer any questions you have on the menu or wine list. First overall the food was very good...we have been here on numerous occasions and enjoy it as a nice place...good food...nice atmosphere. Our last 2 visits have been less than stellar and I'm not sure management cares. I left a review on open table and got no response. The other night our waiter tried hard but may have been fairly new. To start with I ordered a white wine spritzer. He came back and said the bartender did not know what that was. You can google it! I explained what it was and he brings it to the table deconstructed and I made it myself. We ordered salads and that got confused too. At the end he told us our salads would b comped for the confusion! Thank you! But when the bill arrived he comped the salads to our friends - who did not have salads! we didn't want to wait so we did tell him and then let it go. At the end of service most of the wait staff was gathered at the end of the bar talking...and we had to wave our waiter over for coffee etc. so count this as the second poor experience. I did talk to the manager a few days later and he asked me to come again and call him prior to our visit. Nice..,but my past review got no response. That night our waiter said the manager was coming over but never did. They comped us one free dessert for 2 couples...umm?? Anyway...they need to step up the service to b the restaurant I think they want to be! If I could I'd give it 2.5 for tge price it needs to improve! read more

First, the Wine Dive is an excellent addition to Mass Street, a very formidable entry into the already stout 700 block. We started with a nice French burgundy, it's the Wine Dive, right? Then we ordered edamame, the chili sauce was fantastic, one of the best we've had, sorry no pic. Will definitely order again. She had the coq au vin, I had the wild boar ragu. Both were well prepared, uniquely delicious, we would definitely order again. We finished with the honey creme brûlée and pumpkin cheesecake, outstanding, both. Our server was friendly and attentive, never far away. The Wine Dive team has it going on. Mass St fine dining went up a notch the day they opened their doors, we look forward to patronizing their establishment and exploring their menu. Nice job Wine Dive team! read more

Such a treat to find a new restaurant on Mass Street when we arrived for parents weekend. Walk in and the atmosphere is modern and swanky. We had a reservation and were seated in the middle of the restaurant. We ordered some French wine and it was brought quickly to the table. We decided on appetizers ... tuna nachos and calamari served in a Parmesan bowl. The tuna nachos are served with a generous portion of tuna and the calamari was fantastic the Parmesan bowl was such a nice touch. For dinner we split the fish tacos and our daughter had meatballs and 1/2 wedge and her BF ordered the lobster Mac and cheese. I have never had lobster Mac and cheese with such generous portion of lobster. It was amazing. The Mediterranean meatballs were so good and the tacos were nice and light. Showed up at 8:53pm, on July 17, 2024. Google stated the restaurant closed at 9:30pm. We were promptly sat and awaited service, however, it never came. We were trying to have a night cap with our friend who were celebrating their 20th wedding anniversary. There was live music playing and the atmosphere was fantastic. We waited 17 minutes before leaving as the restaurant stated it closed at 9:30pm. I brought it up to staff, the only manager, and she stated "something happened in the back, so sorry about that." Totally understand. Things happen, however, leaving your customers stranded is unacceptable. At the very least someone could have explained SOMETHING to us at some point. Very disappointed for the super bummer of the ending to our evening. read more
