I have been meaning to post this review for over a month but it was such a special experience that I haven't been sure how to put it into words. And frankly at this point the specifics are a bit of a blur, but the feeling of the whole evening, which is ultimately what you want from a fine dining experience, has really stuck with me. For starters, this is a bit of a trek from the KC area. I believe from my home in OP, it took about 55 mins with no traffic. I didn't mind the drive - it makes the whole experience feel more special and I do think it's worth it for people who are hesitant over the distance. Anyway, this ended up being a surprise celebration with my now fiancé for our engagement earlier in the day and I just can't think of a better, more special way to celebrate a special occasion - the ambiance is second to none. We went on a gorgeous May evening and were seated in a beautiful grove of walnut trees. So charming!! Once the sun went down, it was even more magical with the string of lights around the trees. We did get attacked by a bunch of June bugs as we were waiting for our check, but that's not the farm's fault. Anyway, when you arrive you line up at the pretty arbor at the front of the restaurant space and we were seated quite quickly. Service throughout the night was well-paced and hospitable. The tables are charmingly decorated with vintage country linens and dishes with little flower arrangements using flowers from the farm. Neither of us are big drinkers so we opted to just order individual drinks, rather than doing drink pairings. Cocktails were all delicious and quite interesting. We started with an absolutely out of this world bread service, which set the tone for the evening. After that was an extremely fresh and delicious local asparagus salad followed by a pea bisque. Gnudi was next - which could have been warmer, but seated courses for the whole restaurant, can't imagine it's easy to keep everything hot. Flavors were yummy. Next was an extra bread course, which my fiance had pre-ordered. It was so good, though probably would have preferred to get the larger portion at the top of the meal, rather than halfway through, since we were running out of room in our stomachs. We ultimately got 6 portions of bread, 2 before the meal and 4 midway through. We ended up taking 2 portions home because we were getting so full. Steak course was delicious. Loved the sauce with it. Then finished up the meal with a tres leche rhubarb dessert. Everything was so delicious. My only real criticism was at the end of the night, it took a long time for checks to come out. Not the end of the world and I understood that closing out 20 tickets at once is a lot, but at this point it was like 9:45 and took like 20 mins as June bugs were flying at us. Didn't ultimately hurt my overall impression of the experience but we were DONE once we finally made it to the car. As others have said, the pacing can be slow/deliberate, but the property is so beautiful and there was time to get up and walk around, take pics. It didn't bother me at all. But expect to spend at least 3.5 hours there. Ours was a little longer due to a mild sprinkle that happened before the 5th course. They were starting to get the inside area ready and then it stopped raining but like, this is an EXPERIENCE. Not a place to just have any old dinner. We loved it so much that we are looking at it as a venue for our micro wedding. Truly, the ambience can't be beat!

Such a beautiful farm, with adorable animals, the friendliest people, country charm and the tastiest food! They weren't kidding that the 6 course meal would be served over 3.5 hours. The May evening we picked we got to enjoy the beautiful weather and sunset! Extremely romantic and a super unique dining experience in the KC area. Would recommend! 10 outta 10! Snag a Ressy!!

This may be the cutest farmhouse in all the land. The ambiance was spot on. Service was superb and the food was to die for.

A lovely evening! Here's a breakdown of the pros and cons as I see them.... Pros: The people serving, the chef, the kitchen staff and Jim (the unofficial host) and the bartender know their jobs and do & them very well. All were very friendly and professional. The meal was fantastic. Everything was prepared and served at the right temperature. The flavors, textures and colors paired perfectly. I enjoyed most courses immensely. The inside is decorated in a farmhouse eclectic style, and one feels comfortable immediately. The outside area (where the meals are usually served except in cases of unsuitable weather) is peaceful and the tables are spaced far enough apart to provide for a quiet conversation. It rained the night we were there, so we ate inside the farmhouse. It was not quiet, but it was not obnoxiously loud, (and there were no screaming children) so the vibe was quite different from being outside. The overall experience, and it is an 'experience', is quite unique and special. All guests appeared to be very happy throughout the evening. Cons: You will have what is served that night and it will be unknown to you before you sit down at the table. i.e. the menu is not available in advance. There are no alternate choices, unless allergies have been made known. A couple of things weren't to my taste, but there was plenty of food. It's probably going to be a drive for you unless you live by Clinton Lake. It is in a very rural setting on gravel roads. But this could be a good thing too if you're wanting a little trip. There can be quite a bit of time in between when the courses are served. I appreciated not being rushed, but the intervals were a bit long. With a smaller kitchen and everyone being served at the same time, these lapses of time are necessary, and guests can wander around to enjoy the grounds to pass the time. It is pretty spendy. With drinks, one should probably count on about $200.00 per person. As with many high end restaurants, reservations are required a couple months in advance. They are only open Friday and Saturday nights and the number of guests isn't large. But that only makes it that much more special.

Absolutely amazing dining experience. All courses were beyond superb. The facility and the wonderful staff made our evening probably the most memorable dining event we have ever experienced! Cannot wait to return!

We visited Saltwell Farm Kitchen last night after seeing posts on Facebook for a couple years. It was one of those things where I would see a post and say, "I need to book a reservation" and then time passes and you never book the reservation! Anyone else do that? After seeing a post from another patron about their experience and saying that although the food, drinks and ambiance were beyond amazing, what made the experience spectacular, was the sweetest older gentleman that greeted you the minute you arrived! His name was Jim King. This patron raved about Jim and I knew I had to meet this sweet guy so I finally made the reservation!!! Well, I'm here to tell you that ya'll need to meet Jimmy King! Go book your reservation at Saltwell Farm Kitchen and enjoy the many conversations you will have in between a wonderful and amazing 6 course meal! He taught school for 41 years at the same school and has so many fun stories to tell. I just loved my time here and Jim made it extra special!

Gardner has a speakeasy! The exterior has no sign and is next door to a cigar shop…read more To enter you have pick up the old timey phone and when someone answers you have to give the secret phrase. Then someone opens the door. Once inside, it is so cool on the inside. Twinkle lights, lots of seating, and even more space outside. You can bring food in or go next door and smoke a cigar. The customers and bartenders are very friendly. I made some new friends. Tamela, one of the owners was friendly and checked on us. Hanna made our drinks. This is super cool spot. If you live near Gardner it's def worth the drive.

This was my first speak easy and it was 10/10 for me! the night before i visited, they had Hawaiian…read moredancers so the place was decorated with Hawaiian decor which was so cute!!!! to enter, you have to get a secret passcode. the staff is willing to give it if you ask but some people like to figure it out themselves. when you enter, it's this dimly lit room with LEDs all over the ceiling. I can see this place filling up quite fast on the weekends, so get there early!! I was there on a Thursday so it wasn't super busy. for the people that don't drink, and just like to enjoy vibes, there is a special mocktail menu with cool drinks! I got the cosmo mocktail which was $15 and absolutely delicious! each drink had something special about it or a garnish that makes it cute. we saw some drinks that had fire with them, toasted marshmallows, and some with just a simple orange peel. there is no smoking in this area so there is less of that smell in this room for sure!
