Folks had to get up and go out into their store and to get a plastic cup of water from lobby area. How stupid and unprofessional. Been to many wineries and tasting rooms and never experienced lack of professional preparation of no real customer service. They just lined us up to collect payment before starting. Why wasn't water on the tables for customers to drink and (or) rinse glasses instead of pouring tasting right after another was in the glass in not a true tasting with resident from the prior wine???? On the way out, leaving the event, the owner never said good-bye or thank you for coming, absolutely nothing said by owner to us a customer as we heading for the door to leave. All of the wines were nasty, and tasted and smelled like a chemical, lighter fluid is what we at my table of folks described these wines as tasting like. No etiquette at all for a businessperson to have no personality at all. He is just making a bad wine and collecting money. Been to a million wineries that have water on the table for guest. Owner just not personable at all. I would never go again or tell anyone to visit this winery. Lawrence has a couple other good wineries I have experienced in our area. Aweful, don't waste your time trying this place if you are a true wine person.

She was attentive, kind, and clearly holding it down even when management was on some weird decisions. Now for the food... meh. The arancini balls were dry. I was excited for that green goddess sauce but it was way too salty. Not a vibe. The stuffed mushrooms though? Fire. My man tore his up and said they were the best part of the meal. The crab had that lil fishy kick to it, but like... it's Kansas, what we expect? We got the rosé flight--honestly the highlight. $12 well spent. No complaints there. He had the smash burger which was so good... but I'm realizing now it came without the onion topping. Probably forgot it. Not a dealbreaker but still. Now let's talk about the wild part... I asked for some marinara for the arancini and the manager had Emily bring me cocktail sauce. Not a joke. Cocktail sauce, y'all. Like... shrimp dip. Not even close. It's giving confusion. You got a whole ragu on the menu but can't pull together a marinara or even a basic tomato sauce? That ain't it. And instead of coming over to explain or offer an alternative, the manager had Emily do it? Smh. Not cool. But because Emily was dope, we'll probably be back. Wednesday wine nights might see us again just hoping management gets it together. If I wanted mystery red sauce, I'd be at Taco Bell. This is a wine bar. With tapas. Let's act like it.

The focaccia bread was sort of dense. The salad course was good but portioning was very small in my opinion. The first main was brisket and grits. It was average, needed salt and some veggie to cut thru super rich flavor. Second main was pasta and that was most disappointing course. Really didn't taste like much and tiny portion. Third course was the best, slightly above average. Good steak with potatoes and veggies. Decent portion and good flavors. The desert was absolutely disaster in my opinion. It was mint chocolate chip ice cream and sort of thin crispy dough covered in cinnamon sugar. First of all flavors did not match and ice cream was half melted by the time we were served. Overall food was just okay. The drinks: I got gin cocktail that was good and red glass of wine with Taylor's recommendation and I have enjoyed it both. My husband got wine pairing and that was good as well. The personal was super friendly and helpful. The ambiance was great and course meal experience was great but food disappointed.

I'd pay double for it (but please don't raise the price ) I love you Saltwell. As a token of my gratitude here is a haiku. Saltwell season well A delight to my tummy Cozy homey time I also wanna give them a shoutout for all the great things they're doing on social media and highlighting other small businesses. Dining at this new restaurant feels like dining at a Michelin one-star restaurant in France without the cost of airfare or hotel. It is certainly the best in Lawrence, and a major step up from the rest. This is not surprising when you find out about the training of the chefs. For example, the Sous Chef Finnegan Huerter was trained at one of the greatest chef schools in the world, the famous Cordon Bleu in Paris. We got the lemonade, San Pellegrino (big bottle), Mache Salad (large enough to split between the two of us), Salmon, Celeriac Dauphinoise, Opera Cake, and the French Press Coffee Service shared between the two of us. Many of the preparations at this wonderful French restaurant are not available at any other restaurants in Lawrence and change frequently. The prices are very reasonable. The restaurant is open only on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays starting at 5 pm. When arriving, you will not be able to find the restaurant unless you know in advance where it is. The small ornate sign at the entrance is not visible from the street. There is a large parking lot at the entrance, which is very convenient unless there is a handicapped person in your party. The main entrance requires climbing a flight of stairs. If that is a problem for you, there is a handicapped parking space behind the restaurant, with two other ways to enter. One includes a small flight of stairs and the other consists of a ramp with no stairs providing wheelchair access. But this is the puzzle. While the stairs at the front entrance are well lit, the rear entrance has no lights at all. I do not understand a handicapped entrance in the dark with no lights at all. Evidently in good weather, there is outdoor dining in back with lights, but in the winter, there is no outdoor dining and no lights at all at the rear, where the handicapped access is locate. Best to avoid the rear entrance, unless you absolutely need it for a wheelchair. I anticipate that this relatively new restaurant plans to fix the lighting problem on its wheelchair access ramp. In fact I doubt whether the current lack of lighting on that ramp is ADA compliant.
