First time going to this business and this location. It's much bigger inside than what it appeared from the parking area. We were seated quickly although they were very busy and all staff were very friendly. Our server apologized for our wait (it was short) and was attentive. We both loved the burgers we had - mine was medium well and was delicious; cheese, onion, pickles and lettuce; his had bacon. He had fries and for him, they were perfect- cooked thoroughly and slightly crisp (not overcooked and neither of us like limp fries). My tater tots were perfect. TVs were everywhere, with most of them on the local team's football game, with a few others dedicated to two others. We thought it was a good environment and people were having a good time while the tv sounds didn't overshadow the talking. read more

Quite a bit of options, food wasn't anything spectacular. Pizza was alright. They were quite busy when we went with several large parties. Food came out as it was ready not all at once. Lighting was low. read more

Burger special on Thursday night is amazing! Menu has great selection and the food is always solid. Service is top notch as well.

This was my second time here. It's a huge bar with tv's everywhere. The service is fantastic (usually college kids). I love their pizza, and yes, you can order just a slice. Which are huge. Can't wait to go back. read more

Johnny's Tavern West - Slice with onions, mushrooms, and black olives. Delicious. - American Near Me - Lawrence, Kansas

I love this place! Food is great and so is the ambiance, however I was highly disappointed over graduation weekend. I went online to book a room for my graduation of about 15 people. I stated that I wanted a room and people would pay for their own meals. I even called to make sure the room was booked 3 separate times before graduation. I also went in person just to let them know which room I wanted and what all things I was going bring in such as a cake and a banner. The day of graduation comes and I go in to get my room and they sat me at a regular table. I was super confused as I had booked a room or so I thought. I got up and talked to one of the managers and she stated and those rooms come with a deposit of $100 which was never stated to me. I was super confused and upset because not only was I unable to hang my banner or enjoy an intimate gathering with friends and family, but my guests were super uncomfortable because I told them it would be in a room. The waitress was fantastic, but service beforehand was horrible! If I wanted to book a room and you told me it was booked then I am assuming it is booked. I love this place, but I was highly disappointed with this! read more

Our food was served cold. Our waitress did not get our order correct. She said she was new and she was very nice, but it was really the food that was disappointing. The waitress did bring fresh fries out, but these were not done. I just sat the time I was there and the food went in the trash. Didn't want to sound like a broken record. My burger was awful, cold. Nice atmosphere, plenty of room and comfortable, but they really need to up their cooking skills. read more

Friendly waiter. Nice room; but probably one of the most boring pizzas I've had in recent years. Dude, you order toppings, and get charged extra for them, you'd better pile 'em on. Very sparse, and a very dull, thin crust. Not good. I don't think I'm going to get my wife to want to come back anytime soon. read more

Pros: OMG, get the street tacos with shrimp. They are so yummy. I really enjoyed the sauce that comes with them. I also recommend the sangria and get a side of brussels sprouts. Service was great. Cons: Dirty Pretty gross and unprofessional to have uncleaned, oily menus. There was flattened what looked like an old French fry on my menu. Nasty. Please take the time to sanitize your tables, menus and seats. Overall, the experience was fine. read more

I had chicken tacos and my wife had Mac and cheese with grilled chicken. Both were tasty but that Mac and cheese was excellent. Our server was great. She had a good personality and was helpful with choices. The restaurant is typical bar style setup. It's large with a patio. All in all a great choice. read more

a lawrence staple! great spot to check out for larger groups. plenty of space and plenty of options. a good space to watch sporting events, jayhawks in particular. their wings are the star of the show. would recommend the wilson wings. it's fried and charred. their frie sauce is preferred for dips for the fries. service is really good. whether it's a quick lunch or a large get-together, johnny's is a solid choice. read more

Great service, food took 25ish mins during dinner rush. Gluten free pizza was thin and a little hard to chew (that might just be expected with gluten free)- pineapple (not fresh) and sausage toppings were okay. Steak quesadillas were not super filling but had decent steak, salsa was good. Bone in wings had good flavor, fries were just okay. Chicken lettuce wraps had small pieces of lettuce, but tasty chicken. read more

Very good food! The Buffalo Pizza is great, I had mine with blue cheese grumbles. Their Tavern Wing Sauce tastes like a "Whiskey Hot Buffalo Sauce" love the flavor and glad I ordered a whole bottle. The seasoned fries were very delicious pub style fries a++ We got their meat pizza and it was very good, only critique is they put most of the toppings around the center BUT the pizza was very very good! The Salad was of much higher quality than you see at other places with a mix of lettuces. The side of ranch we ordered was 8oz and tasted home made! It was a comparable price to other sauce sides at restaurants except you get 8oz not 2 tablespoons, excellent value! The cheese sticks which I figured would be small, were massive, excellent value for the money. The wait staff were friendly inside and seemed to enjoy being there, the atmosphere was of a classy but relaxed tavern, loved it. You guys deserve a great rating, keep up the great work! read more

Essentially your typical sports bar. The food was pretty good. The waiter was lousy. Met family there and he never asked if I wanted a drink and once I got his attention to ask for one he gave me a strange look. Went for 2 hours without a refill. Kinda weak. Bathroom has only 1 toilet. read more

This is your typical bar food. Not terrible tasting but the wait times and service are very poor. Took us almost two hours to get lunch and there was only about 7 other tables besides us. Don't come here if you are in a rush!! read more

One of the least favorite places I visited on my first night in the area. The kitchen closed early which wasn't a big deal but the bartender just simply didn't seem knowledgeable about mentioning some of the drink selections they might have offered. The crowd here is a majority of college kids. Plenty of parking, easy access to the streets as well. Prices are a bit high as well. read more

What happened to your wings Johnny? I thought i would give you another chance.. but the dry overcooked wings on a Saturday afternoon just made me want to fly out of there! The sweet potato fries were nicely cooked and the side salad... I mean full salad... no actually.. it looks like a side salad - was just enough of a serving. read more

I used to love Johnnys, but my recent 9/3 visit there has caused me to rethink my perspective. I was in a party of four. Two of us ordered the "Rug BLT", I'm assuming for rugby or something. It was a BLT with an egg. Hard to mess up, right? Wrong. The sandwich did not have much bacon and the bread was barely toasted. I ordered the "Patty Melt", or Tank7 Melt. I put it in quotes because everyone in the world that I've ever met has the same vision of a patty melt sandwich. Normally it is a hamburger patty with cheese and onions and some sauce that have been grilled together as a sandwich. This was just two extremely thick pieces of Texas toast served barely toasted, and certainly without being cooked with the burger inside, the cheese, or any kind of sauce or grilled onions. The burger was just sitting on top of the lower piece of bread with a couple onion straws on top of the plain burger itself. There was the remnants of a piece of cheese underneath the burger, but it was a very thin piece of cheese if it was there at all. I really wish I had taken a picture of it because I've never seen such a sad looking excuse for a sandwich. I also asked for onion rings as my side, but instead of traditional breaded, onion rings these were essentially what you would make onion straws out of. Maybe they don't do traditional rings, and I don't know if they have recently change their supplier for onion straws or if they were out of onion rings, but they were horrible. The fourth person ordered a wedge salad. It was as expected but very little dressing, bacon, or anything else.....but more or the onion straws. Our server was also new and did fine but was not properly trained regarding etiquette. She pointed out the pre calculated tip amounts on the bill, in case we were having questions about how much to tip. Oh well. Plenty of other places to go in Lawrence. I used to love their Tank 7 Melt but not sure what happened. Hoping they had a new chef, or some other temporary glitch. read more

So, we came here last minute. They were able to accommodate us nicely and the food came out surprisingly quick. We split the nachos which were pretty good. I ordered the Buffalo chicken sandwich and I thought it was fantastic. Good tangy sauce, fries were solid and maybe it's strange to say but their ranch is really good. All and all it was a great experience. I was surprised how good it was because I felt like it got beat up in the reviews. Also, just a side note. Someone got a burger and it looked a little puny. I'd suggest a double if I were you. read more

This is one of my favorite places in Lawrence. The food is always quality, some of the better restaurant style pizza I've had. I always get this with fries, I'm not sure what they do but these fries are always extra crispy and different than what most places serve. If you're big into ranch like me, this is some of my favorite. The prices are always great too, $5 for a giant slice of pizza and $2 fries. My friend and I just tried the cookie last night, which was absolutely amazing! Sometimes I feel like cookies at places like these are a little overhyped but this one was something special. I usually get the double stacked fried Oreos which are also good but you can't go wrong with either dessert here. read more

I'm not sure if Johnny's has been remodeled, but it definitely isn't the same place I came to on December. They have a huge indoor/outdoor patio that you can rent out for event spaces. (I only know because there was a party in there that prevented me from sitting on the patio. I ordered the high dive with cranberry juice instead of water, and it was light & refreshing. The quesadilla I ordered for an appetizer came out quickly and was made to perfection as you can see. The tortilla was crisp, the chicken was moist, and the pico de Gallo was already in so the sour cream and salsa portions are perfect. As my entree I enjoyed the Mac n cheese with buffalo chicken on the side. It was pretty good, but wasn't the best. The drinks are well worth the money paid. The food is comforting, the atmosphere is different, and the servers are very nice and pretty. When I walked in I didn't feel welcome, but the customer service I received was excellent, and had a lot to do with why this review is 5 stars. This is a great summer spot and will be an even better spot for pregames this fall! Rock Chalk !! read more

In town for work and this place was close by. Last at the front desk of the hotel suggested it. So i headed over grabbed a spot at the bar and ordered a French dip with season fries. The sandwich was good. Lots of thin slices meat and cheese and just the right amount of au jus sauce. Seasoned fries weren't bad and they came out hot which was nice. Overall experience was pretty good. read more

Good laid back restaurant. Service is usually good. Food is good. Atmosphere is good for a bar/restaurant. Most of the daily specials are okay, you can tell they are specials though. Only complaint is the manager speaks a little loudly, but not a huge deal, not so bad to take away any stars. I'm a regular and enjoy the place. read more

Nice people, lots of draft beer selections, very good burgers and the fish and chips were also very good. A little pricey, so 4 stars.

Very good pizza, thin and crispy and amazing Buffalo chicken dip. Known now for their food. Lots of tables and good spot to feed a group or groups. It was my hangout spot during college. The Up and Upstairs- second bar, was an upper class man hang out. I was there recently for an event , good memories. They only rent out the Up and Under now for special events. read more

Four stars alone for customer service. WOW. I went here as part of a very large group and it was very chaotic. While we were dining, another huge group came in but the Johnny's crew kept up. The servers handled this motley crue with professionalism and grace. I was very impressed. Is the food at Johnny's the best ever? No, not by a long shot. Is it good, solid fare? Absolutely. Basically it is the fast food equivalent of bar food. The food is good and hits the spot but it is nothing you will crave or rave about later. I ordered the fried shrimp plate and it was very tasty. The shrimp were sizeable and the salad was fresh and delicious. I had no complaints about my meal. There are several specialty dishes, as well, but I have never tried any of those. They are very popular, however. Our food was served quickly and everyone's order was correct. This is a big restaurant and there are televisions situated all around. This is the perfect place to watch a KU game while hanging out with friends. There are plenty of seats and space. There is another large room off the main restaurant that opens up for large meetings. Parking is not difficult, either. There is a large private parking lot and Johnny's is located in a strip mall. It is a busy strip mall but there always seems to be ample parking. Prices were reasonable for what the quality of service and the food. This is a long time establishment in Lawrence and they have quite a large local following. The food is good, not great, but the service was incredible. read more

Johnny's west has become one of our "go to" places during the pandemic. The servers are great, everyone wears masks, they take sanitizing very seriously, etc. They have a great menu with a lot of variety, and everything we've tried has been tasty, and great value for the money (servings here are HUGE!!). The only thing I've been disappointed in was the hush puppies that came with my fried shrimp. The salads are terrific (and the tarragon vinaigrette is SO tasty) - my husband likes the chopped salad with steak. At Johnny's there's a minimal upcharge to add steak to his salad. At another restaurant around the corner, they charge you $12 to add steak to a salad. The French dip sandwich here is about the best I've ever had. The club sandwich is super tasty. And don't let me forget to mention the PIZZA! Super thin, super crunchy crust, terrific topics. The pizza is epic. Enjoy! read more
