I came here on the recommendation of a friend. It was my first time visiting this place. I usually like to eat healthy. There are plenty of unhealthy options on the menu, but there are also some healthier options if you're careful. My sister did not join us because there's too many tempting unhealthy choices. So if you can't resist a good cheeseburger with fries, don't go here! I LOVE all of sauce choices! I love how they have them on the menu showing how they go from mild to hot. We ordered 20 wings to share with the table (5 of us), but I ended up eating 10 of them! They were so good! We got 10 Honey Siracha flavored and 10 Double Dipped. We all preferred the Honey Siracha. The double dipped didn't have as flavor. They add tortilla chips to the basket, but they didn't seem to have any seasoning on them. They were very bland so no one ate them. I got the grilled shrimp and a side of coleslaw for my meal. The coleslaw was pretty bland, so I ended up not eating it. But the shrimp was very tasty, and a healthy portion (and healthy option). The plate came with 2 hush puppies which I didn't try. They were pretty small and looked over cooked, but my niece ate them and said they're delicious! My daughter got the same thing but with fries. We got some fried mac and cheese bites. I didn't know they had jalapeño in them. I tried one bite of one. They were pretty spicy, but good. My niece got the shrimp tacos. They looked pretty good. They come with a side and she got fries. She was only able to eat one taco and took the rest home. Her daughter got to eat for free (from the kids menu). She got the mac and cheese with a side of apple sauce. I tried the mac and cheese. It was ok. She didn't eat anything, but kids are weird. Her mom took it home for her to eat later. My other niece got the boneless wings and loved them. Hers came with tortilla chips. Altogether our bill was about $65 before tip. We had water to drink. I might go back again. If I don't, it's only because I try to eat healthy and there's a lot of temptations here. I give 5 stars because most everything was very good and the server was very nice too. Absolute Garbage! Food took forever and when we received it my wife's food was cold and my chicken sandwich was cooked so much it was made into jerky. I took one bite and knew something was off. So I cut the chicken in half to see if the rest of the sandwich was like jerky and sure enough it was overcooked and my onion rings were as limp as a noodle. I proceed to tell the server I'm not paying for my sandwich and to please take it off the bill. She returns awhile later and says her manager could only take 50% off. I then ask her to have the manager come talk to me. The manager, her name is Marina, then proceeds rudely to say "This is how we do things around here" and begins to say I ate 75% of the sandwich even when I only took one bite. She continues to argue with me but finally takes the sandwich off the ticket after we sat and waited for another 15 minutes for the final bill which we wouldn't have gotten unless another server who wasn't ours asked if everything was ok. The other server coming up and asking if everything was okay was the best part of our visit to Jefferson's sadly and we will never be returning and I sure hope the managers attitude is monitored and adjusted because she shouldn't be in the food business with those customer service skills. read more

Came here for my sons birthday and tried the arcade, the game that was down had no sign saying so, gave us more points on the card but when it came time to redeem, tickets were incorrect on our card! I even took a video of my son winning just for the waitress to give me the story of there's nothing they can do but offer more tokens which would defeat the purpose as we wouldn't be able to redeem the correct amount of tickets. The service we had was maybe a 5/10 she was nice but wasn't too worried about us or our needs. Food wasn't too great as it felt like it was microwaved being some was lukewarm parts were cold. Although I was enthusiastic about the opening of this restaurant back in 2016, I have become increasingly disappointed by its evolution since then, especially the changes in its management. Oysters should be shucked when served. Jefferson's does not do that. They shuck their oysters in advance. In fact, you would be fortunate if their oysters had even been shucked on the same day that they are served. If you order raw oysters on the half shell at Jefferson's, all I can say is --- good luck. Better to go downtown to the Mass Street Fish House, which does it right. The waitresses at Jefferson's are very good, but I cannot say that about the management. I look forward to the day when there will again be an admirable restaurant at that location, as was the case with the prior two restaurants that were at that location. At present, Jefferson's is on my "don't go" list. It is part of a chain originally out of Jacksonville, Alabama and currently headquartered in Brentwood, Tennessee. There are much better restaurants in Lawrence, including three in the same strip mall. read more

Charging EXTRA for sauce (honey mustard, ranch, ex.) without informing the person paying for it is a little wild. I get it being in Lawrence you're going to have to pay for what other people voted for, sure, fine. Got the Chicken Caesar wrap. Breading on the chicken was superb, the romaine lettuce was well diced and the ranch was evenly distributed throughout the wrap. Overall the atmosphere was great. Very much like your typical college-town sports bar with multiple posters and memorabilia of past championships of KU. Multiple flat screen TV's playing sports games as well. Employees were very kind and more than happy to accommodate our rather large group of people. They were fast and efficient with taking our orders and very knowledgeable as well. This is out local place we go for wings and have been going here for many many years. lately, I feel something has changed and it is not the place it used to be. The wings have gotten so small and very expensive and the value is not great. The flavor is good but there just isn't much there. We ordered takeout the last time and everything was cold and seemed like it was sitting around for a long time even though we ordered it for pick up a specific time window. We came in with a group of about 30 people without any notice (baseball team and family) and the staff was great. They were able to sit all of us on the patio easily and our waitress Reagan was amazing!!! She handled our group with ease and efficiency. Never once did she appear to be annoyed or overwhelmed! She was extremely friendly and served us with a smile. The food was also really delicious!! We had everything from the loaded fries, quesadillas to hot dogs and everything came out hot and fresh! I am going to divide my review into the Good, the Bad, and the Ugly. First, the Good. They serve fried pickles. Need I continue? They are delicious!! I guess there is more to a review that fried pickles, though. I have been going here with friends to watch the KU basketball games. They have lots of big screen televisions and you don't feel crowded. The servers are nice and not pushy. Everyone seems happy and enjoying their time there. The food is standard fare for bar type food. There is nothing fancy or over-the-top. Wings, burgers, tenders... that sort of stuff. They do serve oysters which is unusual for Kansas. The food is good. Everything I have ordered there has been very tasty and satisfying. Prices are reasonable and service is *usually* good (See The Ugly below). The Bad is not really the fault of Jefferson's but the fault of a snarky pre-teen who annoyed us. Because they were soo busy, we had to sit in the game room which was not a problem. However, we had to sit by the basketball machine with loud noises, lights and lots, lots, lots of thumping. The pre-teen decided it was a great time to quarter up the machine and pretend he was LeBron. It was very loud, very annoying but not the restaurant's thing. Now for The Ugly and there was definitely some ugly. My group was there to watch a KU game and we all ordered. Other groups came in after us and ordered. No problem. Then we noticed that a VERY long time had gone by and still no food. We also noticed that tables who came after us had their food already. We waited some more. The server was non-existent. We finally got her attention and we asked about our order. She said they were really busy but she would check. When she came back, she told us that it was being prepared and would be out soon. No such luck. More waiting, waiting for food and the non-existent server. Finally (!) our order arrived and we thought we were good to go. Boy, were we wrong. My friends oysters were stone cold. Like petrified cold. He was going to just suffer through his frost-oysters but I summoned the invisible server and told her the problem. Her reply was simply "We have been very busy." At that point, I asked for the manager. The manager was very nice and gracious. He had a number of excuses such as "We don't have enough staff" or "we just don't have the room to process all the orders" or "just a busy, busy night." I explained to him that if he was going to be in customer service business, he needed to be customer service oriented. He understood and we had a cordial conversation. He did not offer any type of comp, though. I suggested to him that, at the very least, they comp my friends meal for his frost-oysters. In the end, he comped all our meals. He made it right and it was a pleasant conversation. However, we should have never had to ask for a meal comp in the first place. If they cannot serve customers timely, they do not need to be in that business. We'll be back but not when they are busy. read more

The loud country music makes it nearly impossible to enjoy a visit with friends, who can't hear anything you're saying, even at a small table. Our party of 5 waited 30 min for standard stuff like wraps and burgers to come out to us, and one of us waited nearly an hour for theirs because the kitchen forgot to put in her order. The food used to be better, and the service is incredibly slow. I'd rather spend almost $100 anywhere else. I will not eat there again. I went here yesterday night around 7:30 with my sister and her boyfriend, they were not very busy and we were greeted immediately and sat. The server was knowledgeable on their drink specials for the day. We all ordered an alcoholic beverage, the server returned promptly with some waters to accompany but the other drinks took 10+ minutes to arrive to our table (this is my only complaint and the reason I am not giving it 5 stars). We also got the mozzarella sticks as an appetizer and they arrived promptly as well. My sister and I both had the wings which we enjoyed, the ranch was very creamy and paired nicely. While my food was quite good, the service and the ambiance just didn't do it for me. Let's start with the food. The menu is filled with typical bar food although I hear the ribs are pretty good. I went with a burger and fries and while fine, it didn't come the way I had asked for it to come and I wanted fries but got coleslaw instead. Definitely a service issue. But once it all got to me, it was quite tasty As for ambiance? There really isn't any. It's a big wide open place. It reminds me of a kids place as it really lacks any charm but maybe that is why so many families were in the place. Will I be back? Probably not. I prefer a little more character in places I frequent. But if you've got kids and are looking for a family place, Jefferson's will probably work out just fine! read more

We had been waiting about 20 minutes when Katie came by and asked my wife if she wanted another drink, but never said anything about our food order. So, eventually after another 20 minutes, my wife flagged down another waitress to check on our order. Finally Katie brought out our order, and laid down 2 cards for free fried pickles with purchase of entrees. For exactly the third time since I moved to the Lawrence area 13 years ago, I tried Jefferson's. To be more exact, Jefferson's West. And for the third time, I was completely... disappointed. I have bad service, bad food and bad service, and, most recently completely terrible service. I'd like to thank our "dis"server, Emily, for her lack of effort and succeeding in avoiding contact with this customer, his wife, and my 85 year old mother. To start: Saturday afternoon, about 5pm. Lots of empty tables, as the evening crowd hadn't gotten their yet. We asked for a table on the floor level, as it would be easier for Mom to get around. Our server seated us, then asked what we wanted. My thoughts were that either we had already memorized the menu, we had to access it online, or she was testing us. Turned it to be none of the above; she was simply bad at her job! After telling her I'd like a menu before I 1. Got old and 2. Decided what to eat, she fumbled around and found three menus. She then asked us what we wanted to drink. Here again, her lack of skills was apparent, as we asked for a drink menu, as the drinks weren't printed on the menu. After several minutes, we were given menus, and she was kind enough to wait around, arms crossed, while we asked questions and decided what to drink. We ordered, she left, and brought our drinks a couple of minutes later. Upon arrival, I decided we needed some water. She brought us water and we ordered. Not sure what the business model is, but another pleasant young lady delivered our food. She seemed nice and smiled. As soon as she left, I realized that our table had no 1. Napkins, 2. Ketchup, 3. Salt or 4. Pepper. Our girl Emily was no where to be seen, so I scavenged THREE other empty tables to find the napkins and above listed condiments. We then proceeded to eat. We all ran out of beers before our food was finished, but still no sign of Emily. I asked that pleasant girl who brought our food, who was busy delivering every bodies food, if she saw our waitress, that we'd like another round of beers. Emily showed up almost instantly, and we asked for another round. They arrived quickly, but then she vanished again. When we were finished (the food was pretty good, this time), Emily was still MIA. I'd have ordered milk in a carton to see if she was missing, but there was no one to take my order. I asked that pleasant girl yet again that I'd like my server, Emily, to appear so I could pay the bill and decide how little a tip she was going to get. Emily was there quick with the tab. I put my card in the binder, but, yet again, Emily had vanished! Ten minutes later, she showed up, took the binder, and was back in just a couple of minutes. No "how was the food," "can I get you anything else", "thanks for eating at Jefferson's,""have a great day," "come back and see us." I am sad to report that I didn't stiff her, humiliate her, or give her a 1 cent tip. I gave her a straight 15% tip. I don't know if it was her first day at work. I don't know if she was a special needs student. I don't know if she had social anxiety disorder. I don't know if she was having a bad day. I don't know if Jefferson's doesn't train their help. What I do know is that Emily really needs to consider her job as a server as important for both sides in the restaurant/customer relationship. She represents Jefferson's to me when I walk into the door. I won't be walking in any time soon. read more

I really wanted to love this place because it's such a staple of Lawrence. It was a busy day and we were seated within 25 minutes. Our waiter got our order in and we waited what seemed like forever (35 minutes) for our food. When it came out, one of the orders was completely wrong. We didn't want to give back the wrong order because we were starving. As an apology, our waiter gave us a Free Half Order of Fried Pickles coupon. The food was fine, nothing outstanding. Honestly, there are so many other restaurant options in the area that I would probably never go back. There's no reason to. I take that back, I'd go back to drink beer. It's clean, bright, and doesn't have an offensive smell. And there are plenty of T.V's to watch the game. read more
