This place is awful- I'm disappointed anytime I go. Today, my kids mini corn dogs were almost black (didn't want to complain since it's kids eat free on Mondays) my other daughters tots were so well done they weren't edible and the garlic Parmesan wings tasted like they tossed the wings in country gravy- I'm not even kidding! I asked the waitress if the sauce normally tasted that way and she said she hadn't tried the flavor.... such a disappointing meal!!! read more

I love chicken wings, but Jefferson's wings are consistently a disappointment. I've had the mild wings, the medium wings, the hot wings, and the double dipped wings. The double dipped wings were dry and wholly devoid of flavor. Fries were lukewarm upon being served. I wouldn't recommend this restaurant to anyone, even if you're going for a game-day experience first and food second. read more

Update: the owner contacted me and is working to remedy the situation. Bumped my rating from one star to three. Tonight I went to Jefferson's for the first time. After hearing about how amazing the food is, I was so excited to go. However, my excitement quickly turned to disappointment. We ordered our food just after 7 PM. There were three of us, two of us ordered a chicken sandwich and one ordered a burger. After 45 minutes, we asked our server if there was an update on when we would get our food. She told us there was a 12 person ticket ahead of us, but she would check on how much longer. She came back and told us it would still be 15 minutes or so. After 15 more minutes, she came by to refill our drinks. We asked if the food was close. She sighed and told us that she would check again, and as she walked away she informed us there was "only so much she could do." She came back and told us it was still going to be a little bit. At this point, it had been over an hour since we ordered. We asked speak to a manager. The manager came and apologized profusely for the delay, and then we had our food within just a couple minutes. Our server avoided our table the rest of our visit. She would check her tables, then awkwardly skip ours, and go to the other table. Our drinks weren't refilled and she didn't ask if we needed anything else until she came to ask how she needed to split the check. Unfortunately, by the time we received our food, we had to put most of our food in a box and go home because we needed to go home to our kids. When we got our check, we were shocked. You would think that after waiting over an hour to get our food, maybe they would give us our drinks free, or maybe offer a coupon. It's just good business. But no, we were nickel and dimed for everything. I was even charged for my ranch. We paid and left. I have never had such an awful experience. I was most surprised by our server. She was incredibly rude and treated us like we were inconveniencing her the entire time. I don't understand how she has a job. I appreciated the manager's apology and how fast he got us our food, but felt disappointed that there was no follow up. I really wish our experience had been better. read more

Went in yesterday afternoon. Terrible service, food was mediocre. Ordered the cheese fries for an appetizer and wings for lunch. The cheese fries arrived later than the wings and our waitress just said "I don't know why these came out late" and didn't apologize or try to make it right. She overall didn't have very good customer service skills. The cheese fries were less than appetizing; fries with cheese sauce that was heavy and gross like it was from a can, a few punches of bacon and then a little sour cram on the side. The wings were ok, a little on the dry side. We used to frequent Jefferson's a lot, but since it burned down, we haven't been in. We decided to try this new location. Next time we will just try the mass street location. This place left little to desire. read more

While the bartender who waited on us for our drinks was very knowledgeable, we had to wait for such a long time to order food, we gave up and decided to go to the Subway next door. There were four women and one man working behind the bar, but only the woman who got us our drinks seemed to actually be WORKING. Oyster po boy was highlight of meal. Wings were good not great. To be honest our waitress was not very good and took away from our first time experience. Nickel and dimed for extras. Not my thing. A portion of the congregation and I had dinner Monday night. We have been a few times since this location opened and this was our worst experience. We have yet to have a great one. I'll start by saying I have been going to Jefferson's in downtown Lawrence for years. It's iconic in Lawrence. The west side location needs some divine intervention. First they didnt have enough staff. The hostess was friendly but couldnt figure out in a half empty restaurant where to seat a party of 3. Once we sat down, we waited 5 minutes to be greeted and get drink orders. When we ordered I ordered boneless wings, kiddo got popcorn shrimp and wife a salad. 20 minutes later we received our order. Did I mention the restaurant was half empty? Once we got our food, wife enjoyed her salad. Kiddo likes his well enough. As I took a bit if my bbq boneless wing I noticed a smell. Like someone had sprayed Febreeze over my shoulder. The BBQ sauce smelled like it had been mixed in potpourri. Smelled and tasted awful. Unfortunately, I couldn't even ask for a manager, because the server did not return to our table until after the others had completely finished their meals. I ate my non potpourri infused wings (I ordered 2 types) ans they were fine. When the server returned. She brought our check, nevwr asked how the meal was, never refilled drinks. So yesterday I had my monthly lunch with my sisters-in-law. We chose Jeffersons West. I was so looking forward to it given their menu selection. Oysters, Cajun, what's not to like? The oysters on the half shell did not disappoint. Bit pricey, but was market price they said. (tho later on I dined at Jazz in KC and they were just as fresh, delicious at half the price). One sister-in-law ordered boneless chicken wings. She was happy with her order. However, when we asked about the sauce served on the side, we we're given the typical, I'd have to kill you, yada, yada, yada excuse. Seriously? It's a dipping sauce. You really think I'm gonna hit it rich over a dipping sauce? Anyway, the young man that made the statement was a darn good server beyond that, so I tipped him well. Sister-in-law #2 ordered a chicken sandwich, minus the bread. Some sort of diet (not that she needs it, but oh well). She asked if she could have gravy on the side. Sorry, we don't have gravy. Really? A restaurant that doesn't have gravy? However, after perusing the menu, there is no offering that would include gravy. Nope, no chicken fried streak at this establishment. Sad. Finally, I had the Oyster Po'boy. It lived up to the name. It was a Po'boy. Or given the regional venacular, poor boy. Being generous, I'll give it a C. Yeah, it had oysters and several, but overcooked and well, tasteless. It was poor, boy. There's a chance I'll try the place again. After all, one visit isn't a fair sample size to judge a place and it's offerings. My one main question however, is why a restaurant chain based out of Alabama would be more focused on wings, than on southern cuisine. Perhaps you should focus on the food of your region, not that of the upper NY area. Jefferson's, you're not movin' on up. You're moving on down. read more

Let me start from the beginning. The host (perhaps the best part of our meal) was prompt in her delivery to greet my husband and I for lunch one Saturday afternoon, we got seated in a great booth next to all of the TVs so we could watch some college football. Our server was too star struck by some of the KU basketball players to notice us for at least 5 minutes. Our drinks came shortly after she finally greeted our table. We ordered an appetizer of fried mushrooms, and we ordered our meal; he had the fried shrimp basket, while I had the guacamole bacon burger. Our mushrooms came out in a timely manner, and our food to follow in enough time for us to eat the app and then eat lunch. The food was bland. Our mushrooms had zero flavor! They served it with ranch, but I wish they would come up with some sort of speciality sauce to make the app memorable. My burger was pretty good, but the patty was so thin I felt like I was eating at McDonald's. The shrimp made my husband sick. As we sat and ate our meal, most of the servers would walk by and talk to the KU basketball team and ignore the other tables. No one swept the floor, or cleaned tables. The decor is sub par, I get that $1 bills is your signature look, but it is tacky. All in all, we probably wont be going back. The food was not memorable nor was the service. I suggest getting your local bar food from 6 Mile Tavern on 6th street. read more

The wings here are definitely a go to. Carlos and I have split the order of 30 and we always have some to take home. There are so many flavors it will make your head spin. Simply sassy was not my favorite but Carlos liked it because it was sweeter. I like the classic. I also tried the style where they double fry the wings. A bit burnt but very good. When I go here the wings are normally very good. However, I don't understand when you walk into the place and there are several booths and tables available and they tell you it's going to be a 10 to 15 minute wait when there's no one else waiting. This makes no sense to me. If you're having problems with staffing issues figure it out. Tonight instead of waiting I turned around and walked out. Don't think I'll be going back for quite some time. I've been to Jefferson's at least 50 times having gone to KU and now working and living in Lawrence. And I have to say, the new location is average at best. Service is inconsistent, and the food is just alright. the wings seem to be smaller and lower in quality. Still, they have decent drink specials and we can always find a seat at the bar and football on their big screens. read more

Jefferson's used to be one of our favorite places to get burgers in Lawrence. But unfortunately, the last few times have been less than disappointing. We definitely don't dine in anymore. The last time we dined in, we had really bad service. The waitress took over 20 minutes to even greet us and take our drink orders. Then the table next to us (who came in after us) was greeted and served their food before we were. And we have a toddler. He was getting very impatient. Today, when we ordered from them our lunch to go, typically we check our food before we leave, but I didn't today. They didn't ask what kind of cheese I wanted on my hamburger steak (it comes with cheese) and then completely left off the cheese... my coleslaw was COMPLETELY dry and was just a small cup of very brown cabbage. Then my sons chicken strips were way over done. I hate to say it, but we probably won't be back. read more

Jefferson's wings are great..!.....when they get the order right :) I've been to Jefferson's at least 7 times this year to get traditional medium wings, extra wet. And of all those times they've only gotten the extra wet part down ONCE. Today I happened to order for pick up, 20 M wings, extra wet, extra celery in place of no chips. We received literally TWO celery sticks, 2 little things of bleu cheese, and -surprise!- dry as the Sahara medium wings. The reason we order them extra wet is because they don't put any sauce on them to begin with. So really.. I'm just asking for a normal amount of sauce on their so called "wet wings". When I called in to make a complaint, they said there was nothing they could do other than have use drive back and give us extra celery and sauce- the sauce being cold. Obviously i did not do that because ... my order should've been right the first time when I specified EXACTLY what I wanted multiple times. read more

Everything here is so unbearably greasy and salty. I'm a huge fan of fried pickles, but the pickles here were so incredibly soaked in grease that I felt queasy and bloated for days after. I can't speak to the traditional wings, but the boneless wings were mostly salty batter and little chicken. I've been to a couple of their locations, and this has been the norm. read more

First off had to wait 25 min for a table for only 2 people. That didn't bother me but then they sat us in the bar where we could have sat ourselves instead of waiting. After 20 min of waiting for our waitress to come back and take our order I finally went up to the bar to order our food. An hour later our two orders of wings finally show up. I will say at least the food was good even though our order was wrong, we ordered ranch with our wings and they gave us blue cheese and when we asked for the correct dipping sauce they charged us for extra ranch. They were extremely understaffed for being a game night. It even took 20 min for them to get our ticket when we asked for it. Definitely will not be back to watch a game here. read more

I went with a friend to the Wakarusa location because it was game day and we knew the original downtown location would be packed. I ordered the corn dog basket with fries and a bloody mary. My friend ordered a cheeseburger and bloody mary. Our food came out fast. My corn dog basket was really good. It was a little greasy, but that's probably to be expected. My friend's cheeseburger was huge and looked amazing. She said it was really good. However, both of us agreed that our bloody mary's were awful. They taste like pure olive juice with a hint of tomato juice. It also was really spicy. I asked for one shake of Tabasco (or whatever hot sauce they use) and it tasted like they did 10. My friend requested that hers not be spicy at all and she said hers was pretty spicy. This was the worst bloody mary I have ever had- do not order! I'm giving a 4 because the food is really good, despite the nasty bloody mary. read more

We went to Jefferson's West in Lawrence. We finally got our meal ONE HOUR after we ordered (there was no game, nothing going on at the time that lead us to expect service would be that slow). When we finally got our meals the shrimp po'boy was to have potato salad but came with french fries and one of the hot dogs came complete to the table with a strand of hair. Manager took off a measly 6.00. Perhaps they purposely deliver slow service so that more drinks will be ordered. Regardless, we will never ever go back there again!!!!!! read more
