    Pork w/ preserved egg congee
    Philip L.

Made-to-order is one of the secrets of giving great taste in their food. Their Deep Fried Dough Stick is beautifully done. Silky smooth steamed dough wrapped around the crunchy fried dough stick in the middle. The texture contrast is just awesome. One bite after another, and you just can't stop... one more order please! LOL Recommended.

The congee is pretty standard. It's not going to blow up your tastebuds but it's reasonably priced and tastes good. The real star are all the sides/accompaniments. The fried fish skin and dough sticks are fantastic. Although there are other comparable places but it's a pretty big win here. I get the tradition of hot water to "clean" your utensils and stuff but I really think we need to do away with it. Don't love the idea that things are dirty to begin with and require additional cleaning. This is honestly more like a 3.5 but 4 is the closest fit.

Revisited this spot because rice rolls are my kind of comfort food, especially after a rough week. The rice rolls are still just as good as I last came, and on top of that, they've added new options and expanded their menu. You can now add an egg and other toppings to your rice rolls, and they've introduced other mains like noodle dishes. However, I recommend skipping the egg. We thought it would be cooked separately and rolled inside, but it turns out they just mix it into the rice roll batter, which makes the texture thicker. I personally prefer the delicate, thin rice rolls. We stuck mostly to the rice rolls and congee, and there's a deal that with $30 purchase, you can add a sesame paste dessert for only $2. I thought it would be a small bowl, but it was a generous portion, enough for both of us with leftovers. While I'm used to basic or below-average service at Chinese restaurants in this price range, it's usually at least efficient. Here, I felt bad for the server. He was the only one waiting on the entire restaurant, taking care of dine-in and takeout orders, and I even saw him eating between tasks like he had no break. I didn't want to interrupt him just to ask for a water refill or check on the dessert. It also seemed like he didn't understand English. When I asked if the egg was mixed into the batter (because I couldn't see it in the rice roll), he didn't understand me. Same thing when I called for water, he didn't respond to me until we spoke in Chinese. Most of the diners are Chinese, so it probably isn't an issue for the majority, and they do have QR codes for ordering off their menu. Food is still good and cheap though, and we left with 1.5 boxes of rice rolls to take home.

Ambiance - cute hk style restaurant, spacious, semi open kitchen Service - slow, only 1 person up by counter/serving food, order food by QR code on table Food - love love the rice rolls, the truffle paste paired so well with rice rolls, curry fish balls were bouncy, fish skin was extra crispy

A reasonably priced lunch or snack option in a very densely restaurant packed area. I love a good rice roll and congee, and Millstone does it well. There are a variety of options, but we went the safe option of a shrimp rice roll and their signature Millstone congee. The rice roll tasted great - I think it matched the price of around $8.50. Decent amount of shrimps but nothing too crazy. The congee was a nice treat as it came with Youtiao already included. I did think it needed some soy sauce / white pepper to really get the taste up to par. The menu had a lot of other things as well, such as curry fishballs, popcorn chicken, and other small eats. Everything seemed to be under $10, but the portions weren't big so you'd have to order a couple things. On a Saturday night at 7:30PM, it was not busy at all, but I think that's due to the suitability of the meal for dinner (definitely more of a mid-day or late night food). I could definitely see myself being back if I needed a snack. Spent $20 for the two items shared between two people which was reasonable but not filling of course.

My friend and I tried a new restaurant in the area before an appointment. We decided to try Millstone rice rolls based on the reviews and I was craving rice rolls. To order you just scan the QR code to place the order and pay at the front at the end. We ordered the special congee with pork and preserved egg, pork rice rolls, shrimp rice rolls, and the dough fritter rice rolls. Everything came out pretty quick and tasted delicious. It was also my first time trying preserved egg and I actually didn't mind it.

On our recent trip to Toronto, hubby and I tried this place for lunch one day and we were glad that we did. We ordered the Curry Pork Skin with Fish Balls and was quite tasty, the Sweet Cruller was meh. I got the Sliced Pork With Pork Blood Jelly Congee and hubby opted for the Dry Shrimp Rice Roll. Aside from the Sweet Cruller, everything exceeded our expectation. And WOW on the Rice Roll, we are still talking about that after the trip!

Focus is congee and cheung fun and a variety of other street foods. Upon sitting you are directed to a QR code on the table for both the menu and to order. They do have a hard copy menu which we noticed with amusement is automatically given to customers who are more senior in age. What was ordered: Chicken and mushroom congee Beef and chive cheung fun Curry fish balls Food is decent and comes very fresh and hot! Congee looks like it comes in one size only and is perfect for 2 people if you are sharing other menu items. Service is quick and food comes quickly. Lots of single diners. Good place for a quick lunch if you want a comforting bowl of congee.

If you're craving congee and Chinese rice rolls, Millstone Rice Rolls should be on your radar. Starting off with the rice rolls, the assorted rice rolls are soft and smooth, with the right amount of chewiness. The dish I ordered came with beef, which was well seasoned and tender. The popcorn chicken is great, well battered, good spices, and juicy inside. The seasoned beef slice congee is simply delicious, not detecting MSG and loaded with ingredients to the point that I think it's very generous. The HK milk tea is decent as well, though nothing notable worth mentioning. There's currently a coupon promotion that where if you spend minimum $30, you'll get to purchase the Millstone Black Sesame paste dessert. While I have had better, this is still very good and is fantastic value. You do have to sign up for an account though, which is easy to do. The staff was very quick with having the food ready and friendly to the customers. A welcoming experience. I came a little early for lunch so it wasn't too rowdy of an environment. Overall quite a nice place to stop by for rice rolls and congee.

My family and I dropped by Millstone Rice Rolls for a quick snack; it was our first time here. Staff spoke to us in Mandarin, and we can choose where we wanted to sit (it was on a Tuesday, around 4pm ish). Since this restaurant specializes in making fresh rice rolls, we ordered a couple out-of-the-ordinary combos to try 1) Fish Fillet rice rolls and 2) Curry Fishball rice rolls (this is when you are indecisive, and you wanted curry fishballs too lol) The fish one already came with sweet soy sauce (I'm sure you can ask for the soy sauce on the side if you don't like it drenching), and the rice rolls were smooth and delicious! The curry fishball one was hilarious, I mean, the combo works; it came with curry sauce instead of soy sauce (which I ended up dipping it in soy sauce later haha). The curry was not too too spicy, fishballs had a nice texture. Overall, very enjoyable! We also ordered 2 hot almond soy milk and it was heavenly! I'll definitely come back again!

After a long shopping day and an uneasy stomach from Xmas dinner, I can always count on Millstone Rice Rolls for a classic bowl of congee and plate of rice noodle rolls to soothe my stomach. The Millstone Congee is the classic way to enjoy congee with the different textures from ground beef, cuttlefish and Basa Filet to pair well with the texture! The trademark rice noodle rolls have a nice bouncy texture in every bite as it's freshly steamed for every order. You can try it with classic ingredients such as shrimp and BBQ Pork or other delicacies such as unagi! It's definitely a place to visit!

When they provided with a table it was right next to an exterior door, with people going in and out. The was a cold draft, we even had to tell the hostess/manager, if they could provide a divider to divert the draft from hitting our table. We ordered 9 dim sum dishes, one be Roasted Pig Mixed Cold Jellyfish, which was $23.80. I had the idea that it would be a fair portion. When it came, I was shocked, it was only 6 pieces of Roasted Pig. When I spoke with the manager about the portion size, he commented "for that price it is fair". There was not apologies and walked away, nor was it written on the menu. If I had known it was only 6 pieces (size of your index and middle finger put together). I would not have ordered it. If you want to have Roasted Pig, you can get better deals else where. Also, ordered Marinated Chicken Feet for $13.98, when it came to table, it was also a disappointment, part of the chicken feet was dark in colour, not even sure if it was even edible or not. Another dim sum dish that I have order was the steamed chicken with fish maw. The chicken was okay, but there was only two small pieces of fish maw, (the size of each piece was 1/2 inch by 1/2 inch). The order 6 dim sum dishes that was order was mediocre, tasted better from other Dim Sum restaurant. When I received the bill for the meal it came out to be $119.50, they even had included the tip. They didn't even give me an option weather a tip was even worthy. I will definitely not be returning to this place. I definitely do not recommend anyone to come to this restaurant. I would consider blacklisting this restaurant. It's simply deceiving customers.

The individual New Century slow boiled soup is hardest to share but secure some empty bowls and you can divide the hefty portion. In the winter, there's a silkiness to the piping hot consommé that sooths a dry throat and has an umami essence infused with abalone, ginseng, and pork. There's plenty to choose from in the house signature combo platter including roasted duck, soy sauce chicken, BBQ pork, pork slices, and seaweed salad. Saving my stomach for the later dishes, I had a taste of the duck (a good start with crispy skin) and BBQ pork (satisfactory and well flavoured). With the generous portion of chicken in the combo platter, the slow cooked chicken with abalone broth seemed like overkill. I've never been a huge fan of this dish that's served cold since I prefer chicken hot. Still, I understand it's the jelly layer between the skin and meat that people enjoy. And to be fair, the chicken was tender, and New Century certainly didn't skimp on the ginger and scallion oil. For those who tend to fill-up before the "main dishes", the stars of the combo arrive mid-meal. The stir-fried Vancouver crabs with silver fish in HK style spicy sauce needs to be eaten at arrival as the crunchy coating is best straight from the fryer. And despite not looking spicy, the dish has a light heat that permeates in the background. Additionally, the crab was fresh and meaty, cooked well so it remained delicately flakey. The amount of sweet and sticky sauce used in the stir-fried lobsters with scallion in Maggie sauce was well balanced, lightly covering the crustaceans. Both lobsters were substantial; even after eating many pieces, we still had plenty of leftovers. This is a long review head to Gastro World for the rest.

The Shrimp rice roll was quite soft but the pieces of shrimp were quite small and it was just a bit too bland for me. The Beef Ho fun was so good. I can tell the rice noodles they used were high quality. It had a bit of a chew to it rather than it being soggy and soft. The Wok Hei was great as well and they gave us plenty of beef slices. The Tofu Grouper pot was so delicious. They used high quality fish and the portion sizes were quite good for 18$. The pork hock was also really good. It was only 8.99$. The flavor was so delicious and the pork hock itself had a "bouncy"/QQ texture. It was great. The only dish we absolutely HATED and DO NOT recommend was the Clay Pot Rice. I had a really good clay pot rice at a different restaurant 2 weeks ago so I decided to order one here as well. It was so bad. The rice was not cooked properly. The meat to rice ratio was like 1 to 10 There wasn't even any crispy rice at the bottom. and the meat itself was not tender. It was dry and rough. No wonder why I can't find any reviews of their clay pot rice online. Probably because nobody orders it. Everything we ordered seemed to have been freshly made to order so the first few dishes does take a bit of time, about 5-10 mins before the whole order was completed in about 30 mins. The atmosphere at Lobster Port is very bright and open, they have a decently high ceiling and good spacing between tables and have separate private dining rooms for private events/parties. The service and plating is very professional and upscale as well. The tea service comes in three pots, the hot water pot to refill the brewing pot, which you use to refill the serving pot, which itself is on a tea light to keep it warm. We ordered... - the deep fried taro pork dumpling: the taro is very fresh and not oily - the steamed signature bbq pork rice noodle roll: the filling is very well balanced and fully stuffs the rice noodles and sticks very well to it, it is the best dish by far of all the Dim Sum I've tried - the lotus leaf sticky rice was very fragrant and stuffed with fillings - the pan fried turnip cake was super soft and fluffy - the siu mai was so large it looks like two in one - the har gow was massive and filled to the brim - the steamed spare ribs with taro: was pretty mid, it's good but nothing special - the crispy crusted baked sago pudding: was interesting, eat it right when it comes out to be fresh and hot, but can definitely pass on this, its basically like a hot rice pudding Overall, the food was very balanced, clean tasting, not oily, and under seasoned (in a good way). Their soy sauce is very light and fragrant and goes with everything well. Will definitely be coming back to try the buns and other steams items.

The setup is like a canteen where you order Togo or there are a few tables to enjoy with. There is a hot water boiler if that's your beverage of choice. I chose the BBQ pork and duck over rice and found the pork very fatty and skin a little chewy (not the crisp burst in your mouth texture). The duck on the other hand was well seasoned but chewy. The meat was tough in a not so pleasant way. The rice was on the harder side (there are so many preferences here and will not cast judgement. There was plenty of sauce on the rice but did not have a strong flavour to enhance the flavours just to look nice. The accompanying sides - marinated Tofu and cabbage was nice and refreshing. The soup was well flavoured and washed down the food nicely. I will lineup back in the FMP food court for the BBQ fix and wish the best for this newer establishment. **they did sell out of their suckling pig rice and may come back to try it out.

Behind its unassuming exterior lies a dining room of quiet sophistication: modern, luminous interiors with tasteful appointments that signal immediately this is no ordinary Cantonese restaurant. The dim sum programme is where Moon Palace truly distinguishes itself. Each piece arrives with a precision and generosity of filling that speaks to genuine kitchen pride -- plump dumplings, impeccably fresh shrimp, and roasted meats that carry an unmistakable depth of flavour reminiscent of Hong Kong's finest teahouses. The quality of ingredients is evident in every bite; nothing here feels like an afterthought. What deserves particular commendation is the consistency. Over multiple visits, the standard has never wavered -- a hallmark of disciplined kitchen craft that is rarer than it should be. In a neighbourhood saturated with tourist-facing options, Moon Palace maintains an unwavering commitment to authenticity and refinement. Service is attentive and gracious without being intrusive, contributing to an atmosphere that invites one to linger. I have recommended Moon Palace to friends and colleagues without hesitation, and will continue to do so. A polished gem in downtown Toronto's culinary landscape.

Food 4/5 Service 4/5…read moreAmbiance 4/5 Food: I came here for a lunar New Year lunch with some co-workers. They chose the menu which was a combo deal. There were so many dishes I started losing track. LOL. I also don't know all the names of the dishes as I didn't see the menu. One of the dishes was a fried lobster. They showed the lobster to us (poor lobster) before cooking it. The lobster tasted really good but I'm not used to handling lobster in its shell. LOL. There was a pumpkin soup which I couldn't eat since it had dairy in it. Another dish was a Peking duck with rice paper wraps, cucumber & green onions. This was my favourite dish. Delicious, yummy & simple to eat. Another dish was chicken (I didn't taste that one). We also had a fried rice which was so yummy. Then there was a dish with scallops, oysters, pork & seaweed surrounding it. I tried the scallops & they were delicious. There was another duck dish but this time the duck was chopped into little pieces with some Dessert was a yogurt / jelly type of thing which I can't eat due to my dairy intolerance. Service was really great. I'm not sure if that's because I was at a table full of Chinese people though. LOL. The dishes came quickly & they just kept coming! We had tiny plates to eat from so after the lobster we got clean plates. For the fried rice we had the servers separate it into bowls for everyone. Since we couldn't finish all the food we had them wrap up the leftovers & we took it back with us. Myself & another co-worker split up the leftovers between us since no one else wanted it. Ambiance: The restaurant had some nice lunar new year decorations up. It was pretty. Located inside the Atrium on the Bay this is an easy location to get to. The location was the site of a former restaurant called Spring Rolls. It still looks the same the only thing that changed were the tables & chairs. The washrooms are downstairs in the lowest level of the restaurant. It was hard for me to get down there because my knees are really stiff & painful. It would've been nice if they had a handicap washroom on the main level. The food was delicious & service was attentive. I thought the special lunar new year meal we chose was too much food for six people. I would've been happy with dim sum. Also the washrooms being in the basement was an inconvenience for me. Those who are mobility challenged will have the same issue.
