This is the broth they gave me after I asked why they gave me so little soup and look at the amount of hot sauce they gave me ..

Sigh I expected more from this place . There was a video going on instagram hyping this place but it's so underwhelming Cost wise , it's about a dollar more expensive than other wonton joints . $14 before tax for two topping noodle soup . I picked wonton n beef brisket Upon pick up , I noticed they gave me half a container of soup . Everywhere else I go and all my pho places always gives me a full container so I inquired . They ended up giving me some more but still not full container Upon trying it at home , it was so bland . I swear they added hot water to the broth when I asked for more lol Wontons are pretty small compared to trio and my jumbo wontons from the grocery store It was all so underwhelming ...:( Likely won't come back

I came to this place after a 2 weeks away to Europe, I miss the Hong Kong local food so much. Two of us ordered a beef tendon lo mein (noodles with a small bowl of soup come separately) with wonton and spicy minced pork sauce (which I love) and an assorted congee. They both taste really good, the ingredient texture is cooked and prepared perfectly and well seasoned. Not too salty. I love the congee texture. It costs around $33 exclude tips. Try this out if you haven't yet!

Had a very satisfying meal here on the 2nd floor of King Square~both the food and service were spot on. We ordered : Minced Beef Congee ($8) The congee was smooth and comforting with a nice rice fragrance. The minced beef was tender and generous, simple but done really well. Liver Congee ($10) The pork liver was fresh, thick-cut, and very smooth with no bitterness at all. Paired with the silky congee base, it felt very authentic and comforting. Dough Stick Roll / Fried Dough Stick Roll ($9) Soft rice roll on the outside with a crispy fried dough stick inside, not greasy at all. A classic must-order with congee. Fried Dace Fish Balls ($11) Crispy on the outside, bouncy and flavorful inside. You can really tell they're freshly fried, perfect as a side or to share. What really stood out was the service , super quick, friendly, and efficient. The staff were warm and welcoming, and the whole experience had that cozy Hong Kong neighborhood eatery vibe that makes you feel right at home. Especially in the winter, there's nothing more comforting than a hot, smooth bowl of congee it truly warms you up and makes you feel at ease. Great value, comforting food!

Very meh congee & noodle...This spot is located inside King Square at Woodbine & 16th - given this mall is half empty parking is not a problem within the lot underground. There was a line during weekend lunch hours but went by quick was was fairly orderly. Ordered the following: - Minced Beef Congee - I wasn't a fan of the thicker texture so perhaps thats a preference, but there was no flavour in this otherwise. - Wonton Lo Mein with Shrimp Roe - This was ok, thought there were a ton of noodles, and the wontons were pretty packed - Plain Rice Roll - service wise, seems they forgot about this item and it arrived as I was about to ask to cancel it. - Sweet Dough Stick - this was definitely left out for a time as it was missing the crunchy texture, though goes well with congee as per usual I'm surprised how there always seems to be a line at this spot, perhaps its just a convenient location for many or just filling a craving that many have (myself included). Just nothing stood out for me to look forward to trying again or coming back.

Good selection of congee and noodles. The noodle is a bit small but tasty. The beef tendon is very tender and the dace fish actually tastes like real fish. The service is typical like any Chinese cafe. It wasn't too busy at noon and there was no wait. Looking forward to coming back to try their congee

It's hard to miss Very Good Congee & Noodle in the King Square Shopping Centre -- it's the only shop bustling with people, in a mall that is otherwise a graveyard of empty stores. The restaurant lives up to its name -- the food is very good. A winner for us was the beef rice noodle rolls, thin and delicate with a well-seasoned beef filling. The congee is more home-style, smooth and delicate, with lighter flavours. The only mild disappointment was the wonton noodle soup. The variety of toppings is nice, but the underlying noodles are very plain, the wontons average at best, and the broth uninspired. The overall price at about $12 per dish is very reasonable given the service (typical HK-style cafe) and tea.

Located inside Kings Square There is plenty of parking out front and underground. Their service is quick but inattentive as many items were forgotten. The food quality is meh. Lacks flavour and not just salt missing. The inside appears to be very flexible for seating and open kitchen for all to watch the wizardry happening in the back. The restaurant is brightly lit and spacious but the quality and attentiveness was not up to par unfortunately.

We came here two years ago when this spot first opened, and with two years now passed, we thought we'd revisit to see if there had been any improvements--or if things had changed from our initial experience. This time, my mom ordered the pork knuckles and pork liver lo mein, while I went with the dumplings rice noodles (ho fun). We also got the beef rice noodle rolls to share. Unfortunately, the lo mein didn't hit the mark. Last time, the noodles were undercooked, but this time, they were overcooked--soft to the point of being soggy, with no al dente texture. The pork liver was a little unusual in texture--spongy but soft--and it didn't have that distinct iron flavor that usually defines it. The dumplings ho fun was decent but not great. The amount of shrimp roe on the soup was minimal, more of a sprinkle than anything generous, and the rice noodles leaned toward the soggy side. They weren't as tender or silky as I've had at other places. The beef rice noodle rolls were consistent with our previous visit. They're still thicker than what you typically find at other popular congee spots--not necessarily a bad thing, but definitely a matter of personal preference. Overall, while the restaurant has its strong points, there's still room for improvement in terms of execution and consistency.

Very good noodles indeed! We ordered the cuttlefish, been tendon, dace fish noodle soups to share with a side of fried fish skin. Although the portions are smaller than competitors, there's more seafood/fish flavour in their fish balls and the food seems to have been prepared with care. Noodles also seem fresh rather than rehydrated. Simple, classic dishes done right and with that, it is worth the premium price. I will be back to try the congee!

Super busy congee/noodle place on a weekend. Luckily we got there right at noon and waited about 15 mins for a table. The later groups had to wait at least 1/2 hour. First time trying this place and I feel it might be my last time as well unless I do take out. Congee was very starchy but the fish balls were delicious. I got the two topping congee and it turned out to be $12 for a relatively small bowl. The fish balls were also tiny. The brisket combo was not bad but it was $16 for a watered down lemon tea. The rolls were pretty good though. We ended up paying over $50 for 3 dishes. Deducting two stars because we kept on smelling bleach. We didnt even drink the tea because the cups were all bleach taste. The restaurant was so loud but quite comfortable seatings.

We were influenced to try it from an instagram video and everything was priced well. The best out of three dishes was the congee. The wonton noodles were chewy but we found the wontons itself lacked a bit of flavour. The fried fish balls were a bit hype, nothing too special. We had to add spice to give it a kick. Overall I'd say it's your average congee noodle spot.

Satisfied with congee noodles This shop is worth recommending. Every time a friend asks me where the beef gluten noodles are the best. I personally think this beef gluten noodle shop is really delicious. Their bunk is very large and relatively wide to lie down. They have a snack called fried catfish balls which is also delicious.

Last summer, my family went here for lunch in the King Square shopping centre. We ordered sliced fish congee, sampan congee, pork liver congee, dough stick(油條), ox-tongue sweet dough stick(牛脷酥), fried dace fish balls, bbq pork and duck rice rolls. The congee was very smooth and not watery. The fried dace balls were piping hot and bouncy. The rice rolls were thin and delicious. The dough sticks were also fresh and crispy. It was a great meal! Definitely will be back to try other dishes!

Both pots arrived steaming hot and filled to the brim, clearly meant for sharing. The braised beef was rich and hearty, while the chicken pot was comforting and full of flavor, making it perfect for group dining or cold weather meals. Combined with the rustic, traditional décor, it really feels like authentic Northeast Chinese comfort food. The food and atmosphere were excellent, though the service was a bit lacking. I wanted to try Peking Duck and got clued into J&Y as one of the best options to try which did not disappoint. The Peking Duck was so tender, so flavorful and so wonderfully succulent. It was perfectly prepared and sliced with the fat rendered and thinly sliced. The wraps were not the monstrous steamed buns but traditional translucent wraps which are super thin, soft and pliable. Scallions, cucumber, hoisin sauce completed each wrap which highlighted the duck. Definitely the best traditional Peking Duck preparation I've had in a very very long time. The remains of the duck were used for make a duck fried rice and duck soup, again both were amazing. It takes a certain skill to make fried rice cleanly without an excessive oily coating on each grain of rice. This was one of the best fried rices I've ever had! No gratuitous mushy frozen peas needlessly added either. Well seasoned fried pork ribs and veggies completed the courses I had, everything was truly wonderful and I hope to revisit again.

I was hoping to find something special on the menu. The Peking duck caught my eye at around $70, but then I discovered that almost everything else was extra--lettuce wraps, stir-fried duck meat, fried rice, and soup. By the time you add the extras, the bill is easily another $50 or more, bringing the total to well over $120. We decided to pass, and judging from the dishes we did order, that was probably the right decision. The hot and sour soup had plenty of heat and tang but lacked depth of flavor and was under-seasoned for my taste. Fortunately, we only ordered a small bowl. The deep-fried tofu was bland and forgettable. The stir-fried shrimp was acceptable but nothing special. The biggest disappointment was the sweet and sour pork. I specifically asked the server to make sure the pork was crispy, but it arrived soft and lumpy rather than light and crunchy. Even the complimentary red bean dessert soup was watery and lacked flavor. Our bill came to about $104 for two people. For the quality of the food, I didn't feel it offered good value. Sadly, after several disappointing visits, I don't think we'll be returning.

I had my food in my insulated bag, so the sauce leaked into the Fantuan bag and my insulated bag. Luckily, my car was fine. As a result, my rating is four stars. I wanted to try a new eatery. I looked at my Fantuan app and noticed He Bei Chinese Cuisine. It had dumplings and snacks that I enjoy, so I said yes to placing a dinner order from this eatery. I ordered these items: - Pork and chive steamed dumplings (large has 14 dumplings) - Tea eggs - Shredded potato salad On Fantuan, when you purchase $15 worth of food, you get the shredded potato salad for a cent. Deal! After placing my order near my home, I drove over to this eatery. The drive was ten minutes. I was given an estimated time of fifteen minutes. It was ready in ten minutes. I had no problem finding this eatery. There was plenty of parking. I pulled into a spot and walked in. I saw the Yubu sign. My heart sank, as I loved the Korean tofu pockets from this joint. I liked seeing places to sit down and eat at He Bei. Nice! A woman behind the counter came over. I said that I had a Fantuan order. She talked to me in Mandarin. I don't understand it, but we were fine communicating with each other in our languages. She pointed out the blue Fantuan bag on the table behind me. I thanked her and wished her a nice day. She said thanks right back. I put my food in my insulated bag. With the leak, I managed to launder the Fantuan bag and clean my insulated bag. After I cleaned up, I had dinner at home. The food was amazing and filling! I loved the shredded potato salad. Sure, a lot of the sesame-soy sauce was gone. However, it tasted yummy. It was worth the cent! The steamed pork and chive dumplings were so good. I didn't dunk them in soy sauce. The filling had so much moisture that I felt like I was eating soup dumplings. The filling had yummy flavour and the dumplings were steamed to perfection. Excellent! You can buy frozen dumplings from this place. I'll need to do it. The tea eggs were the perfect snack while streaming hockey games. I peeled the shells off both of them. The eggs were cracked to allow the amazing soy-based sauce to marinate and get into the eggs. Delicious! I'm a fan. I'll take a closer look at the lids on my food next time. I'm glad that I put food in my insulated bag. It saved cleaning my car's upholstery! (59)

So we ordered Maggi Lobster (~3lbs) for $34/lb, and stir fried beef with Chinese broccoli (gai lan). The lobster was cooked perfectly, with the Maggi sauce not being too salty. They definitely gave us all the pieces of the 3lbs lobster. The gai lan had a bitter aftertaste, which is common for this vegetable. I wished they had a way to get rid of that. They were generous with the amount of beef and was well marinated. The cut wasn't that great, but that is to be expected. I don't think they added much MSG or at least used good quality ones, as we did not feel overly thirsty later in the evening. They give free daily soup and dessert. What we were most impressive was with the service. The waiters were very attentive, changing our plates twice during our 1ish hour meal. The individual New Century slow boiled soup is hardest to share but secure some empty bowls and you can divide the hefty portion. In the winter, there's a silkiness to the piping hot consommé that sooths a dry throat and has an umami essence infused with abalone, ginseng, and pork. There's plenty to choose from in the house signature combo platter including roasted duck, soy sauce chicken, BBQ pork, pork slices, and seaweed salad. Saving my stomach for the later dishes, I had a taste of the duck (a good start with crispy skin) and BBQ pork (satisfactory and well flavoured). With the generous portion of chicken in the combo platter, the slow cooked chicken with abalone broth seemed like overkill. I've never been a huge fan of this dish that's served cold since I prefer chicken hot. Still, I understand it's the jelly layer between the skin and meat that people enjoy. And to be fair, the chicken was tender, and New Century certainly didn't skimp on the ginger and scallion oil. For those who tend to fill-up before the "main dishes", the stars of the combo arrive mid-meal. The stir-fried Vancouver crabs with silver fish in HK style spicy sauce needs to be eaten at arrival as the crunchy coating is best straight from the fryer. And despite not looking spicy, the dish has a light heat that permeates in the background. Additionally, the crab was fresh and meaty, cooked well so it remained delicately flakey. The amount of sweet and sticky sauce used in the stir-fried lobsters with scallion in Maggie sauce was well balanced, lightly covering the crustaceans. Both lobsters were substantial; even after eating many pieces, we still had plenty of leftovers. This is a long review head to Gastro World for the rest.

They have different special offers each day from Monday to Friday. We ordered the special Linyi Style Stir Fried Chicken on Friday. And we also ordered Boiled Basa Fish with pickled Cabbage & Green Pepper. They were pretty traditional Chinese styles. The white rice or brown rice both can have as much as we could. That's good for men. We both like here, but they don't offer specials during the weekends. But they do have other special packages, just a bit different. And they also have the membership that we could collect points and then we could use the points to get drinks or different snacks or dishes.

New sauerkraut fish soup spot in Markham…read more A chain from asia that has finally made it's way to Markham. They are known for their sauerkraut fish soup that comes with unlimited self serve rice on the side. Servers were attentive, spacing of the seating and tables were tight. Often times people kept brushing up against my chair while getting up to go get their rounds of rice. Although not a deal breaker, was annoying while trying to enjoy your food. The portions are big enough for 2 if you get a large, but since it was our first time we wanted to try 2 different soups. Here's what we got: Chicken wings 4/5 - Came out raw the first time after we bit into it. But quickly flagged a server to let them know how this issue. They brought us a new one shortly after that was perfectly cooked, juicy and crispy on the outside. Laotan boiled fish with pickled cabbage and chili 4/5 - Their number one classic so we had to try. It's sour and spicy with the right amount of kick to it. Basa fish filets were also tasty. Came out luke warm. Princess's tomato fish 4/5 - Packed with tomato flavour. Savoury and paired well with the basa fish filet. Came with bean curd noodles as well. Came out luke warm. Easily would be a five star review if both soups that we got came out piping hot rather than lukewarm. Regardless, a great spot for a quick in and out meal.

Wait list is old school...someone writes your name and number in a notebook and you are called when your table is ready. The interior is reminiscent of the old school taverns you see in those old Chinese movies where the traveller has spent days walking or on a horse and comes upon a tavern where the interior is all wooden tables and benches. Dining style and dishes are all family style. You order a couple of dishes and then add rice. Spice level can be adjusted and even at 'less' the heat level was high. Definitely generous use of Szechwan peppercorns! Food is very flavourful and depending on preference some might find the oil level high. The clientele is mainly Mandarin speaking and if you are Asian they will immediately communicate in Mandarin with you but I did see the staff switch to English where needed. Service was patient and attentive.

Meaty pork strips coated with thin batter, each piece is wrapped in a glossy sauce and sprinkled with white sesame. Perfect dish to go with rice. Double Cooked Pork Slices: Classic Sichuan-style dish. The pork belly is first boiled, then stir-fried again with chili bean paste and green bell pepper. Very flavorful and savoury, another great dish to go with rice. Soy Sauce Fried Rice: One of my fav childhood dishes, and they delivered very well. It's such a huge portion that we could only finish it in two days. Service was great, considerate and friendly.
