Came for afternoon tea and the restaurant is located at First Markham Place. Although parking was quite difficult to find, I was surprised that the restaurant itself was quite dead on a weekend. I loved the ambiance! It had an ancient Chinese theme and the seating was very comfortable with these really long tables. The service was quite standard and typical. Nothing amazing. We ordered a few dishes including the Shrimp Rice Roll, Beef ho fun, Grouper tofu pot, Braised Pork Hock and their Minced Beef Egg Clay pot rice. The Shrimp rice roll was quite soft but the pieces of shrimp were quite small and it was just a bit too bland for me. The Beef Ho fun was so good. I can tell the rice noodles they used were high quality. It had a bit of a chew to it rather than it being soggy and soft. The Wok Hei was great as well and they gave us plenty of beef slices. The Tofu Grouper pot was so delicious. They used high quality fish and the portion sizes were quite good for 18$. The pork hock was also really good. It was only 8.99$. The flavor was so delicious and the pork hock itself had a "bouncy"/QQ texture. It was great. The only dish we absolutely HATED and DO NOT recommend was the Clay Pot Rice. I had a really good clay pot rice at a different restaurant 2 weeks ago so I decided to order one here as well. It was so bad. The rice was not cooked properly. The meat to rice ratio was like 1 to 10 There wasn't even any crispy rice at the bottom. and the meat itself was not tender. It was dry and rough. No wonder why I can't find any reviews of their clay pot rice online. Probably because nobody orders it. Other than the Clay Pot rice and shrimp rice roll everything else was really good so I definitely would come back again.

Came here to celebrate my belated birthday with my family. They have great dinner sets. Loved their fish skins so yummy. Their Peking duck wasn't much of the star of the show as it was their duck fried rice. I did like how lean the duck was though! We added the April special, $9.99 for the sweet and sour pork! Their soup was excellent, and their dishes were nice and big! Will definitely be coming back to try their XLB!

Some dishes were hits and others were misses. My recommendation would be to stick to the Cantonese classics. Grouper pot - very good and nice quality of fish used Beef ho fun - good wok hay and cheap Seafood xo sauce vermicelli - this one is a miss. Small portion and way too spicy, taking away from any seafood flavour. The seafood itself was tender and cooked well Oyster on rice - too salty and overall is a bad dish In terms of service, food came out really slow and the servers were scrambling. Bonus: free dessert! Overall, I'm interesting in checking out other dishes

Authentic Chinese dishes here, but they don't serve one particular type of Chinese cuisine, since they're known for both Cantonese as well as Shanghainese styles. Service was alright, they start you off with a pot of tea. Chinese themed interior design with booth seats as well as open space tables.

Great experience at Cheung Kee. The $29.99 Peking Duck is really worth it, crispy skin, tender meat and the wraps are delicious. We also enjoy the Dongpo pork belly, salted egg yolk wings and clay pot rice. The restaurant is clean and comfortable, and the staff were friendly and helpful. Overall tasty food with good value. Will come back again and highly recommend..

$88 set meal tax included - soup, chicken, lobster and veg

If you're in First Markham Place and craving Cantonese comfort food, this is the move. It's always buzzing with people -- and for good reason. We tried the $88 set meal (tax included), which was a real feast: half a chicken topped with ginger and scallion sauce, lobster in Magi sauce, choy sum in broth, and a comforting soup. To finish, they brought out a complimentary dessert -- a warm green bean sago soup, which was a nice touch. Just a heads up: it's cash only.

This resto is under one year open as of this review I believe (replacing Green Tea Restaurant). My bro was put on to this resto by one of his friends and a lot of "deals" that the resto has going on. They provide unlimited bowls of white rice (for no extra cost) and the pricing is VERY, VERY affordable. Double boiled soup: The soup came w/ quite a lot of lean pork chunks in it. More meat than I'm used to. Most restos give you a bunch of "jaa" but skimp on the meat. Was pleasantly surprised. Signature roast chicken (half): They call this "bbq" chicken on the menu but it's basically crispy roast chicken. The chicken was moist, the skin was indeed crispy and it was served w/ spicy powder and plum sauce. I think instead of the spicy powder I would've preferred lemon juice. Either way, the chicken was phenomenal. Choi sum w/ deep fried garlics: Nice, big plate of veggies and the stems were cooked thoroughly. Stir fried beef w/ mushrooms: Served in a sizzling clay pot and the beef was sooo tender. Salted egg yolk tiger shrimps: Nice, plump shrimps. Controversial take, I happen to like my salted egg yolk prawns peeled before being cooked in the sauce but I know a lot of folks like the shell on. These ones had the shell on. Satay seafood vermicelli bowl: Prolly the weakest dish imo. Have had better versions of this dish at other restos (Vintage Garden Dining on McNicoll in Scarbs comes to mind right off the top of my head). Service was kinda chaotic. We had ordered sweet n' sour pork but the waitress forgot to add it to our receipt and each time we followed up w/ them as to where it was they didn't really give us a response (just walked back to the kitchen as if they were checking). By the time we had FINISHED dessert soup and were chowing down on cake (we had brought our own to celebrate my bro and sis-in-law anniversary), THAT'S when the sweet n' sour pork arrived. But at that point, we had already told them 20 min prior to cancel the order. The wait staff were very apologetic but I just feel like better communication on their behalf would've been better. That being said, UNLIMITED bowls of white rice at no extra cost is insane (I don't know how long this will last tbh). I hope this is not just a promotion but a standard resto policy (but I think it'll disappear once they start getting busy w/ a lot of customers). Would definitely come back to try the sns pork and other dishes.

It was PACKED Saturday evening on a holiday weekend. The line was out the door. The service for those waiting was non existent. I snaked my way to the front counter to place a take out order. I got beef with vermicelli and a vege. The wait was 20+ minutes which could have been worse. Atmosphere was loud. Food was pretty good. Beef was tender. Nice brown sauce. Mushroom was good addition to the dish. This went down fast. The vege was also good. None of the pieces were old tasting. The portion was decent. It was presented in a lot fancier way for sit down. Busy. Bad service. Food decent. Portion decent but expensive.

This has become a go-to for my family's dinner. We have been here 5+ times since we first discovered this place a few months ago. We still frequent their combo dinners. We came here on a Sunday late evening and a few of their dishes were sold out in their combos. They allowed us to sub it for items at similar pricing. The service has been consistently decent throughout. We were one of the last tables to leave and they didn't rush us out, though we felt bad and tried to finish quick.

Was planning to eat at FMP foodcourt but there were just way too many people so here i am Tbh i have low expectations as i heard stories but it actually wasnt that bad. Service was meh ngl~ but Chinese places services are usually mehso whatever! I personally think their lunch special menu was quite a good deal. Super big portions, great pricing and flavor were actually NOT BAD. FYI even tho they are called green tea (previously) they have nothing connected to the franchise in China. So dont expect same menu items. This is more like a canto style chinese restaurant with some shanghai fusion dishes. Overall 4/5, i think ill come back again to they their peking duck and other menu items! The only thing i didn't enjoy was their table seatings. Their booths seats are super close tgt and i keep kicking the wood piece under the table def got a bruise, so next time imma stay away from those seats.

Chinese restaurant serving authentic, affordable dishes. Interior is also good with booths to sit in (a bit tight) and quick service. Really enjoyed all our dishes here and cant wait to come back. Here are the highlights: Boiled chicken and pig tripe with white pepper soup 5/5 - Warm, peppery. delicious and great soup starter to share with the table. It was packed with flavour and came in a decent size to have multiple bowls of soup. Sweet and sour pork 5/5 - Perfectly fried and crispy on the outside. Tossed in the perfect sweet and sour sauce. Loved this dish - would highly recco. Stir fried flat rice noodle with beef 5/5 - Had a good amount of wok flavour to this stir fry dish. Great for sharing and a good staple food. Stir fried pork belly with green pepper 5/5 - The peppers were a hit or miss with spice level. Overall, the pork belly was fatty and delicious, perfect amount of fat to pork ratio Tiger shrimp with vermicelli 5/5 - Great steamed dish with their tiger shrimps. The bed of vermicelli on the bottom soaks up all the shrimp essence and is delicious to the taste. Salted egg yolk fried wings 5/5 - An absolute must get. So delicious, salty crispy on the outside and juicy tender on the inside. Clay pot rice 5/5 - Have to have rice with your dishes. This is a great alternative to just white rice since it's packed with flavour. Overall, it was a great dinner with all the flavourful food options. Great pricing and good for sharing.

Hong Kong Cafes are more or less the same to me, so was surprised when I went to Cheung Kee Restaurant in First Markham Place. The restaurant's decor was lovely and rustic. The wall paper was pretty with classic Chinese style painting. The pot that the tea came in was gorgeous as well, not your typical chipped, white teapot found in chinese restaurants. The dishes we ordered were amazing!! Peking duck - you don't really see this dish in hk cafes, so this was a nice treat. Although the meat was a bit dry, the skin was nice and crispy. Crispy fish skin - light and crispy, this appertizer was coated in salted egg yoke to elevated the taste. Egg tofu with crab meat and egg yoke in stonepot - oh my, it was an eye opening tasty mouthful. We all loved it. Beef hor fan - this one is your typical hk cafes noodle dish, but very tasty. Service was very fast. My only recommendation is that the servers could be a bit more friendlier. Also there's no website for this restaurant, which made it more challenging to get the address for GPS. But definitely looking forward to going back again.

Braised Fish and Tofu in Hot Stone Pot

Well, Markham has got a new player for homestyle Cantonese cuisine! Located alongside Green Tea Restaurant, Cheung Kee offers quality classic Cantonese dishes that arrive to your table with full of flavour and in a reasonable amount of time ! The menu is a bit condensed, but they take the time to focus on the quality! The Braised Fish and Tofu in Hot Stone Pot is one of their best dishes for the Braised Grouper being succulent and moist in every bite with the tofu and sauce adding a nice compliment to the overall flavour! The Sweet and Sour Pork is nice and crispy to be best enjoyed with rice! The Chicken Hot Pot Soup with Herbs is perfect for the winter with lots of goji berries and ginger adding a hint of spice and sweetness to pair well with the boiled chicken. The fried rice has lots of wok hei flavour which is good sign to see! Definitely Cheung Kee is looking to make an impact and I hope many of you get a chance to try their dishes!

When they provided with a table it was right next to an exterior door, with people going in and out. The was a cold draft, we even had to tell the hostess/manager, if they could provide a divider to divert the draft from hitting our table. We ordered 9 dim sum dishes, one be Roasted Pig Mixed Cold Jellyfish, which was $23.80. I had the idea that it would be a fair portion. When it came, I was shocked, it was only 6 pieces of Roasted Pig. When I spoke with the manager about the portion size, he commented "for that price it is fair". There was not apologies and walked away, nor was it written on the menu. If I had known it was only 6 pieces (size of your index and middle finger put together). I would not have ordered it. If you want to have Roasted Pig, you can get better deals else where. Also, ordered Marinated Chicken Feet for $13.98, when it came to table, it was also a disappointment, part of the chicken feet was dark in colour, not even sure if it was even edible or not. Another dim sum dish that I have order was the steamed chicken with fish maw. The chicken was okay, but there was only two small pieces of fish maw, (the size of each piece was 1/2 inch by 1/2 inch). The order 6 dim sum dishes that was order was mediocre, tasted better from other Dim Sum restaurant. When I received the bill for the meal it came out to be $119.50, they even had included the tip. They didn't even give me an option weather a tip was even worthy. I will definitely not be returning to this place. I definitely do not recommend anyone to come to this restaurant. I would consider blacklisting this restaurant. It's simply deceiving customers.

The individual New Century slow boiled soup is hardest to share but secure some empty bowls and you can divide the hefty portion. In the winter, there's a silkiness to the piping hot consommé that sooths a dry throat and has an umami essence infused with abalone, ginseng, and pork. There's plenty to choose from in the house signature combo platter including roasted duck, soy sauce chicken, BBQ pork, pork slices, and seaweed salad. Saving my stomach for the later dishes, I had a taste of the duck (a good start with crispy skin) and BBQ pork (satisfactory and well flavoured). With the generous portion of chicken in the combo platter, the slow cooked chicken with abalone broth seemed like overkill. I've never been a huge fan of this dish that's served cold since I prefer chicken hot. Still, I understand it's the jelly layer between the skin and meat that people enjoy. And to be fair, the chicken was tender, and New Century certainly didn't skimp on the ginger and scallion oil. For those who tend to fill-up before the "main dishes", the stars of the combo arrive mid-meal. The stir-fried Vancouver crabs with silver fish in HK style spicy sauce needs to be eaten at arrival as the crunchy coating is best straight from the fryer. And despite not looking spicy, the dish has a light heat that permeates in the background. Additionally, the crab was fresh and meaty, cooked well so it remained delicately flakey. The amount of sweet and sticky sauce used in the stir-fried lobsters with scallion in Maggie sauce was well balanced, lightly covering the crustaceans. Both lobsters were substantial; even after eating many pieces, we still had plenty of leftovers. This is a long review head to Gastro World for the rest.

I was hoping to find something special on the menu. The Peking duck caught my eye at around $70, but then I discovered that almost everything else was extra--lettuce wraps, stir-fried duck meat, fried rice, and soup. By the time you add the extras, the bill is easily another $50 or more, bringing the total to well over $120. We decided to pass, and judging from the dishes we did order, that was probably the right decision. The hot and sour soup had plenty of heat and tang but lacked depth of flavor and was under-seasoned for my taste. Fortunately, we only ordered a small bowl. The deep-fried tofu was bland and forgettable. The stir-fried shrimp was acceptable but nothing special. The biggest disappointment was the sweet and sour pork. I specifically asked the server to make sure the pork was crispy, but it arrived soft and lumpy rather than light and crunchy. Even the complimentary red bean dessert soup was watery and lacked flavor. Our bill came to about $104 for two people. For the quality of the food, I didn't feel it offered good value. Sadly, after several disappointing visits, I don't think we'll be returning.

Since this Chef 88 is opened until 1am, I think this place will get busier as the night progresses. We weren't super hungry as well ate something for tea time. So we ordered Maggi Lobster (~3lbs) for $34/lb, and stir fried beef with Chinese broccoli (gai lan). The lobster was cooked perfectly, with the Maggi sauce not being too salty. They definitely gave us all the pieces of the 3lbs lobster. The gai lan had a bitter aftertaste, which is common for this vegetable. I wished they had a way to get rid of that. They were generous with the amount of beef and was well marinated. The cut wasn't that great, but that is to be expected. I don't think they added much MSG or at least used good quality ones, as we did not feel overly thirsty later in the evening. They give free daily soup and dessert. What we were most impressive was with the service. The waiters were very attentive, changing our plates twice during our 1ish hour meal. The also gave us wet wipes and more napkins without us requesting it. They even offered us additional soup, which we declined as we were quite full.

But I gave it 4 stars because of the experience yesterday. The food was substandard on this visit. I ordered 1. Jumbo seafood congee (taste was bland) 2. Grouper and tofu hot pot (best of all 4) 3. Black bean and beef Hofun (seriously lacking in quality) 4. Chinese dough fritters (awesome as always) I would say I was 50% satisfied with the meal. But I will be back as I said this place hardly disappoints and Even with this experience it's still an easy recommendation to come here I hope next time the quality is up to their old 30 year standards.

My childhood fave was the familiar taste of century egg and shredded pork congee which we often ate with 油条 a freshly fried dough. B17 - Shredded Pork & Preserved Egg Congee. Good value. Fast service. Always tasty. Congee Wong is generous with their soup ingredients compared to other congee restaurants. Popo and Gunggung's favourite soup was D9 - Shrimp Dumpling Noodle in Soup. Rice noodles were made right and they were not overcooked. They preferred it with a bit of gai lan. P72 - Vegetable with Oyster Sauce. The veggies were slightly overcooked but still edible. This establishment has been here for years. Some people might find the decor outdated but it holds special memories to many of us patrons.

They leave you with the rest of the bones in a separate container to take home. My biggest complaint was that everything was so oily and the duck was also very fatty. The parking lot is shared with many other shops and many have reserved spots infront of their shop making the parking exercise a little tedious. The setup is like a canteen where you order Togo or there are a few tables to enjoy with. There is a hot water boiler if that's your beverage of choice. I chose the BBQ pork and duck over rice and found the pork very fatty and skin a little chewy (not the crisp burst in your mouth texture). The duck on the other hand was well seasoned but chewy. The meat was tough in a not so pleasant way. The rice was on the harder side (there are so many preferences here and will not cast judgement. There was plenty of sauce on the rice but did not have a strong flavour to enhance the flavours just to look nice. The accompanying sides - marinated Tofu and cabbage was nice and refreshing. The soup was well flavoured and washed down the food nicely. I will lineup back in the FMP food court for the BBQ fix and wish the best for this newer establishment. **they did sell out of their suckling pig rice and may come back to try it out.
