We came for dinner at around 6:30pm. Place was empty. We were told they closed at 8pm, so we ordered fast. Food tasted alright. Portion was generous. Service was really courteous.

Chicken black pepper rice

Large portions! Came before the lunch rush on a weekend and was greeted by the friendly staff at the counter. I was a bit confused coming into this restaurant as it's a half bakery (chinese bakery where you can grab your own buns and pay), but also half restaurant. The place was quiet at around 11:20AM on a Sunday long weekend. Filled up by the time I was done eating. Onto the food: Baked chicken tomato sauce on rice 8/10 Really enjoyed this. The chicken was cooked with some crispy outer layer, topped with tomato sauce on rice. The portions here are LARGE and would have been perfect to share between 2 people. Dish also comes with an egg on the plate which I liked. Baked chicken black pepper on rice 8.5/10 This one really hit the spot for me. Crispy outer layer chicken with a black pepper sauce on a bed of white rice. This also came with an egg on the side. Portion of this was also very large. In the end, I packed up half a dish to take home since the portions were so big. Price is a little more expensive than other hong kong cafe quick eats, but I guess for the portion size they give, the price is quite reasonable. Saw that they also sell individual sized mini cakes with special flavours such as durian cheesecake. Would probably come back to give their other dishes and cakes a try!

Baked chicken with black pepper sauce - generous portion!

Really more of a 3.5*, but I have bumped it to 4 as feeling generous over the holiday season. This restaurant is part bakery and part HK cafe. There's limited seating, but still felt comfy and modern. It's located at Times Square plaza facing the road. We went through the mall from the other side to avoid walking too far in the cold. I was pleasantly surprised by their offerings and quality of the food! We ordered the baked chicken with black pepper sauce and rice. It came in a huge portion! The chicken was crispy and I loved how it came with tomato, broccoli, and hard boiled eggs. What a nice touch! I recommend that dish for sharing as it's enough for 2 people. The spaghetti with bolognese tasted great as well. Very filling and they didn't skimp out on the cheese. Prices are a bit higher than other HK cafes, but the portion and taste make up for it. Service was very friendly, which is hard nowadays for these restaurants. I wish they could offer customers tea or water when we sit down though as this place is not a self serve. Overall, would return again when in the area!

Baked chicken cutlet in black pepper sauce with fettuccine

Amazing HK Cafe food ! Located in Time Square Plaza - their entrance is facing the road so you might get lost if you don't look up where it is beforehand. The price of the dishes are slightly higher than other HK cafés but the portions are HUGE. even if you're hungry, you probably still can't finish it all in one sitting. Most of the dishes also come with a small drink. We ordered the Baked Chicken Cutlet with black pepper sauce on fettuccine & Baked Pork Chop + Chicken cutlet with brown sauce on rice. Both sauces were so flavourful and meats were crispy on the outside and juicy inside. Definitely recommend the baked dishes!

Located in the Times Square plaza off Hwy 7, will need to look carefully as front entrance is small and dark and located on plaza side away from other restaurants. Corn beef and egg sandwich was spot on, ordered bread toasted cuz I like toast, generous filing. 4 large pieces of deep fried chicken wings, be careful as it comes very hot right from the deep fryer. Crunchy exterior with moist meat. First bite is an explosion of hot goodness. Now if you're really hungry, order the pork chop ( or other protein) rice, comes with 2 large slabs of protein slathered in a sauce of your choice. My god, who eats this much for lunch. Made a wise decision, ate half a pork chop and looked forward to eating the rest at home Perfect comfort food to eat at home while watching BTS YouTube videos, "Butter" me up.

I can see why this place is as popular as it is! A nice clean restaurant, with good HK cafe style dishes. I enjoyed all 3 dishes that I got here. All had lots of flavour and were tasty. Milk tea was decent as well. I would say it is a little pricey for what it is, especially the cha siu rice but at least the portions were fairly sized. For 3 people, we ordered 2 combos and a snack and had some leftovers to take home. It's good to have another option for an HK style cafe in this area! Would love to come back to try their breads and cake next time as well.

Portions are large and the bbq pork was good. But something is missing. It just felt like I was eating the same flavours over and over again. After eating half the bowl I felt bored of the same flavour and it needed something different.

Came here with a group of 16 people which I understand is a lot to ask for at a HK Café. Despite this, they accommodated our group very pleasantly. My main dish tasted great, the toast was delicious and our group was decently satisfied. There was a slight mix up with my sauce selection, I received garlic but they quickly adjusted it to the Japanese curry. Tip: Visiting in the middle of winter, we found it quite cold inside and so be sure to dress warmly. Also, was not a fan of the bbq pork dish.

Starchiva is one of the newest additions to the famous Times Square shopping mall in Richmond Hill. What makes Starchiva unique, is that they also sell Chinese buns and specialty cakes from a bakery named 7 Baker. The food was decent, the char siu was fairly tender. However, their service was quite chaotic. The lady next to our table ended up walking out the restaurant because 3 other parties that came after her got their food first. Signature Starchiva Char Siu & Egg on Rice ($11.99) Meat Floss & Egg Pineapple Bun ($7.50) Price Range: $5.50 - $13.99 IG: #The_Yum_Report

Triple Cheese Mousse (a bit too cheesy for me) + Lemon Mousse (my favorite)

Newly opened Hong Kong style cafe in Time Square Plaza. they are a sister restaurant to 7 bakery in Scarborough. The food is pretty good and favorful. My favorite would have to be their BBQ pork rice n desserts!!! To celebrate their grand opening, they currently have a special combo for one person or two persons. One person combo: $9.99 Includes BBQ rice dish with drink and dessert Two person combo:$19.99 Includes BBQ rice dish + Beef noodle soup + 2 drinks + 2 desserts. This I think ends at the end of August. So you still have one week to take advantage!!! Also right now they have 10% off other items. Another thing they have is the dessert combo which includes 9 different desserts. It's about $39 ($77 Reg). Some told me it's until the end of this month so please check with the staff. If you just want one dessert, it's about $5.50 each.

Menu! 10% off during opening now :)
Jasmine K.

New spot in Times Square where the Chinese dessert place used to be. They are currently doing 10% off for opening special. Overall, food was okay with decent portions but not too many options. The servers were nice and restaurant was clean but maybe because they are still new, some things could be improved. For example, they have no tea or water to start you off like most restos. We also don't think they had any condiments (hot oil, etc) for us to use on dishes. For the dishes, the pork cutlet with garlic sauce was the best. My boyfriend had the signature cha sui and egg rice and found it to be a little bit on the sweet side. On another note, they also sell 7baker bread and cakes here which I have heard good things about but haven't tried.

Monita C.

This is a new restaurant located at Times Square on Hwy 7. We tried those 3 signature dishes which were recommended on menu (with ). The portion was big and taste was ok. It has 10% off whether you are dine in or take out. There's a miscommunication issue between us but they were nice to treat us a dessert from the house. Their attitude was appreciated.

Chicken wings
Kelly C.

The beef brisket pho was good, the rice noodles were soft and fresh, and the chicken wings were crispy. Good spot for a light snack.

When they provided with a table it was right next to an exterior door, with people going in and out. The was a cold draft, we even had to tell the hostess/manager, if they could provide a divider to divert the draft from hitting our table. We ordered 9 dim sum dishes, one be Roasted Pig Mixed Cold Jellyfish, which was $23.80. I had the idea that it would be a fair portion. When it came, I was shocked, it was only 6 pieces of Roasted Pig. When I spoke with the manager about the portion size, he commented "for that price it is fair". There was not apologies and walked away, nor was it written on the menu. If I had known it was only 6 pieces (size of your index and middle finger put together). I would not have ordered it. If you want to have Roasted Pig, you can get better deals else where. Also, ordered Marinated Chicken Feet for $13.98, when it came to table, it was also a disappointment, part of the chicken feet was dark in colour, not even sure if it was even edible or not. Another dim sum dish that I have order was the steamed chicken with fish maw. The chicken was okay, but there was only two small pieces of fish maw, (the size of each piece was 1/2 inch by 1/2 inch). The order 6 dim sum dishes that was order was mediocre, tasted better from other Dim Sum restaurant. When I received the bill for the meal it came out to be $119.50, they even had included the tip. They didn't even give me an option weather a tip was even worthy. I will definitely not be returning to this place. I definitely do not recommend anyone to come to this restaurant. I would consider blacklisting this restaurant. It's simply deceiving customers.

The individual New Century slow boiled soup is hardest to share but secure some empty bowls and you can divide the hefty portion. In the winter, there's a silkiness to the piping hot consommé that sooths a dry throat and has an umami essence infused with abalone, ginseng, and pork. There's plenty to choose from in the house signature combo platter including roasted duck, soy sauce chicken, BBQ pork, pork slices, and seaweed salad. Saving my stomach for the later dishes, I had a taste of the duck (a good start with crispy skin) and BBQ pork (satisfactory and well flavoured). With the generous portion of chicken in the combo platter, the slow cooked chicken with abalone broth seemed like overkill. I've never been a huge fan of this dish that's served cold since I prefer chicken hot. Still, I understand it's the jelly layer between the skin and meat that people enjoy. And to be fair, the chicken was tender, and New Century certainly didn't skimp on the ginger and scallion oil. For those who tend to fill-up before the "main dishes", the stars of the combo arrive mid-meal. The stir-fried Vancouver crabs with silver fish in HK style spicy sauce needs to be eaten at arrival as the crunchy coating is best straight from the fryer. And despite not looking spicy, the dish has a light heat that permeates in the background. Additionally, the crab was fresh and meaty, cooked well so it remained delicately flakey. The amount of sweet and sticky sauce used in the stir-fried lobsters with scallion in Maggie sauce was well balanced, lightly covering the crustaceans. Both lobsters were substantial; even after eating many pieces, we still had plenty of leftovers. This is a long review head to Gastro World for the rest.

Their per plate cost is higher than some other Dim Sum restaurants, but each item's size makes it almost twice the amount of food. We were here as a party of three to enjoy their brunch. Their menu is very clear and self-explanatory, the plate size is priced and any special dishes have their offer right next to the item. Once you've filled it out, a staff member will review and enter the order and return your order form with a copy of the kitchen's order. As your items arrive, the server will check it off the list. Double check your list and/or call someone over if anything is taking too long. Everything we ordered seemed to have been freshly made to order so the first few dishes does take a bit of time, about 5-10 mins before the whole order was completed in about 30 mins. The atmosphere at Lobster Port is very bright and open, they have a decently high ceiling and good spacing between tables and have separate private dining rooms for private events/parties. The service and plating is very professional and upscale as well. The tea service comes in three pots, the hot water pot to refill the brewing pot, which you use to refill the serving pot, which itself is on a tea light to keep it warm. The tea is strong and refills are free as expected at a Chinese restaurant. They have a cash discount on the menu if you eat in early on M-F excluding holidays. Due to the portion size, start you order with around 2-3 dishes per person before adding on. We took some home as leftovers at 9 total dishes. We ordered... - the deep fried taro pork dumpling: the taro is very fresh and not oily - the steamed signature bbq pork rice noodle roll: the filling is very well balanced and fully stuffs the rice noodles and sticks very well to it, it is the best dish by far of all the Dim Sum I've tried - the lotus leaf sticky rice was very fragrant and stuffed with fillings - the pan fried turnip cake was super soft and fluffy - the siu mai was so large it looks like two in one - the har gow was massive and filled to the brim - the steamed spare ribs with taro: was pretty mid, it's good but nothing special - the crispy crusted baked sago pudding: was interesting, eat it right when it comes out to be fresh and hot, but can definitely pass on this, its basically like a hot rice pudding Overall, the food was very balanced, clean tasting, not oily, and under seasoned (in a good way). Their soy sauce is very light and fragrant and goes with everything well. Will definitely be coming back to try the buns and other steams items.

There were so many dishes I started losing track. LOL. I also don't know all the names of the dishes as I didn't see the menu. One of the dishes was a fried lobster. They showed the lobster to us (poor lobster) before cooking it. The lobster tasted really good but I'm not used to handling lobster in its shell. LOL. There was a pumpkin soup which I couldn't eat since it had dairy in it. Another dish was a Peking duck with rice paper wraps, cucumber & green onions. This was my favourite dish. Delicious, yummy & simple to eat. Another dish was chicken (I didn't taste that one). We also had a fried rice which was so yummy. Then there was a dish with scallops, oysters, pork & seaweed surrounding it. I tried the scallops & they were delicious. There was another duck dish but this time the duck was chopped into little pieces with some Dessert was a yogurt / jelly type of thing which I can't eat due to my dairy intolerance. Service was really great. I'm not sure if that's because I was at a table full of Chinese people though. LOL. The dishes came quickly & they just kept coming! We had tiny plates to eat from so after the lobster we got clean plates. For the fried rice we had the servers separate it into bowls for everyone. Since we couldn't finish all the food we had them wrap up the leftovers & we took it back with us. Myself & another co-worker split up the leftovers between us since no one else wanted it. Ambiance: The restaurant had some nice lunar new year decorations up. It was pretty. Located inside the Atrium on the Bay this is an easy location to get to. The location was the site of a former restaurant called Spring Rolls. It still looks the same the only thing that changed were the tables & chairs. The washrooms are downstairs in the lowest level of the restaurant. It was hard for me to get down there because my knees are really stiff & painful. It would've been nice if they had a handicap washroom on the main level. The food was delicious & service was attentive. I thought the special lunar new year meal we chose was too much food for six people. I would've been happy with dim sum. Also the washrooms being in the basement was an inconvenience for me. Those who are mobility challenged will have the same issue.
