We went to this joint after pickleball, just in time for their happy hour menu. I ordered the chicken and fish cake vermicelli in tom yum soup. Have to say both the chicken and fish cake were yummy. But the soup was very plain tasting Tom yum soup. I love their tofu pudding with the ginger syrup. If you order it, you should do it 15 mins before you end your meal because it takes time to prep. They told us 10 mins but 15 mins later, it still wasn't served, so we had to follow up. I want to go back again, next time for their combo menu as there are lots of choices to pick from. read more

Tucked into the side of a medical/business building, this HK cafe is one of those spots that you can easily pass by without ever discovering it. But make no mistake, it's bustling in there! Expect to wait if you come during weekend or lunch hours. The menu is filled with classic HK cafe dishes from fried or baked rice, fried noodles, & soup noodles. Among all the dishes I've tried so far, their fried rice noodles with beef in soy sauce is my favourite! Glossy noodles, wok hei (wok fire) taste, and plenty of tender beef slices. Portion sizes are generous here, and each dish comes with a free regular hot drink. My only gripe is that their HK milk tea is just "alright" - the flavour could be stronger. read more

This cafe is located at the side of a tiny plaza. They offer great combos which includes rice and soup. The portions are okay but quite affordable for the price. We got the beef and mushroom (a little salty), the steamed fish with preserved vegetables (nice balance but it was probably from frozen), silken tofu with seafood and veg (this was quite nice and tasted healthy but had a lot of corn starch slurry sauce), half hand shredded chicken (I liked it but maybe because of the way it was marinated it ended up being salty for me). Service is quick and food comes out quickly. A lot of my friends and I could see a lot of other customers too order take out because of the awesome combo deals. Their tofu dessert is a MUST TRY. We ordered a large ($11) which was good for 4-5 people. It comes w a ginger sauce and is piping hot, silky and fresh. 5/5 Overall wonderful value and a little salty so make sure to get rice . I may come back to try other dishes and drink lots of water read more

It's good value and it's my family go to restaurant for dinner. Lots of choices for the set dinner with choice of 2 to 6 dishes. This time I ordered 4 dishes and they are good. Sweet and sour pork, fish sauce chicken with scallion and ginger dip, Chinese broccoli and beef and coconut yam with Chinese sausage. I also added hot tofu with ginger syrup for dessert . The set goes with soup and bowls of rice. Total cost with tip is $71. The server is very efficient. It is a casual setting with lots of succulents plants at the window sill. This is a Hk style cafe restaurant. It's decorated with a lot of beautiful live plants . We like the live vibe here. Staff is very friendly as well, and foods are served instantly! I mean ordered foods, and went to wash my hands, and the dish arrived on the table before I did! Tried 4dishes combo, most dishes are good quality, except the eggplants in the pot, which is a bit bland. , reasonably priced dishes with good portion, and the speed to table is impressive! NGL I didn't eat anything here because 1. No AC or very low. It's 26C outside and it felt like 25 inside. 2. This place had the most boring menus I've ever seen a HK cct 茶餐廳 ever produce for some ridiculous prices. And in Markham?! How can they compete with the other million CCTs with such a lackluster menu? Firstly, no matter how "thick cut" 厚切 the luncheon meat is, it will not be thicker than Phoenix's nor can it ever warrant a $12 price tag. Secondly, what a waste of a name and sign. The logo of the 6 is adorable and gives off the modern cafe vibe. Yet the menu is the most basic, prototype, and soulless menu I've seen in any HK cct. Even Ming's on 7/Kennedy has a more interesting menu. And considering it's got such cool tables and lights, why no cool dishes or drinks? Nothing about this menu stood out from the other 10 000 CCTs that exist in Markham, and they didn't even have any daily or weekly specials to promote anything. At least have that but there was nothing about this place that made it stand out. The menu was so boring that my mom, who's usually very easygoing with CCTs, suggested to walk out. We really couldn't find anything we wanted to eat, let alone pay $10+ for. Maybe the food quality is fine, but the menu is the customer's second contact with the restaurant. If we can't even find anything interesting in the menu of 66 things to eat at lunch, then we're never going to be able to experience said food quality. I guess their main source of revenue is the funeral attendees and people who work nearby because I can't envision people wasting gas money to drive to such a boring restaurant. read more

My husband and I came for an early dinner (5:45pm) on a long weekend and the restaurant was already half full with diners. I would definitely recommend people to make a reservation on a weekend no matter how small your party is. We got the "select your own dish dinner combo" with includes daily soup and rice. We opted for 3 dishes - hand shredded chicken (half), stir fried egg with shrimp, and stir fried beans with minced pork. The food came out really quickly and the service was attentive for a Chinese restaurant. The hand shredded chicken was well seasoned, with the "sand ginger" and sesame oil flavour. I was a bit reluctant to order this as other restaurants tend to skimp out on the meat. I feel like we got half a chicken worth of meat. The stir fried egg with shrimp was our favourite dish. It had the "wok hey". And the shrimp was decent quality for the price. The green bean with minced pork could have had more "wok hey" but at least it was not overly oily. We got their famous tofu pudding. It came steaming hot and stayed hot due to the container. I asked to have the syrup on the side and I liked how the syrup was infused with real ginger. The final bill with tax and tips was $60, which to me was a steal! We had enough food for my husband to pack for lunch. read more

I came here for dinner over the weekend and was pleasantly surprised. This place was tucked away in a building (more than a plaza). When I walked in, there was a quite a busy crowd eating there. I ordered a set of 3 dishes where I picked which ones I wanted. I got the shredded chicken and it was delicious! The other dishes I got were also well seasoned and tasty. It comes with soup and rice for $40. The unique part about this place is they also serve dessert. You can get a herbal jelly and a full tub of sweet tofu dessert! I was beyond full but had to try this. Overall, a nice and easy spot to have dinner and grab some dessert. read more

A HK style cafe located in Markham downstairs of an office building. We arrived for lunch on Sunday just before 1 pm and it was half full. 15 minutes later the place was packed. Interior decor is very interesting, there is a very healthy selection of succulents lining the wall under plant lights and probably one of the largest lucky cat collections I have ever seen, the collection lines one side of a wall and then there are more in plastic cases on the counter. Food was 'meh'. The beef Singapore fried rice was good and the fried dry rice noodles with beef was standard. The baked rice was a huge disappointment. I would not call what was served a 'baked rice'. It was basically rice mixed with egg and fried chicken on top. There was very little sauce and cheese was non existent. Rice was soft and almost mushy in some sections. Service was okay. Food came quickly. Lots of selection on both the lunch and dinner menu. They also have a mid afternoon tea selection. All in all, it was okay. I'm sure there are some things on the menu that are great, just not sure we would rush back. read more

One of our go-to restaurants for no frills Chinese food. We usually get the combo where you choose a few dishes - the dishes are a bit smaller so we order 4 dishes for 3 people. My go-to order is the shredded chicken. Each dish comes with a bowl of rice as well. After the meal, make sure to get a tofu dessert! Also note that they charge 50 cents for each takeout container. read more

Trying to compile all the HK cafe places we tried and see who reigns supreme! This is another one on the lists. Portions are good, price is good, and service is there when needed. Here was what we ordered: L14-Eggplant w/Pork on Rice-$11.50 L30- Rice Noodle w/Beef-$12 L49-Beef Brisket on Rice w/Curry-$13.50 The meals come with choice of hk milk tea hot or lemon tea. Milk tea is decent. The portions for the food was good like mentioned and the pricing is good too. The quality is there as well. Their dinner menu options are good too. I saw six dishes for like $80! Slow service with small servings. We came here for a quick bite but quickly realized the staffs erratic service. It was slow and they forgot many other tables's orders. The food was just okay, the noodles we ordered had the wok aroma but it was a little salty and the portion was half of what the price reflects. Their tofu pudding wasn't anything amazing either. Likely wouldn't come back again. read more

Food portion was big and the price was very economical. Milk tea flavor is typical to those of HK. Warm and cozy inside with plants on the window edge. But forget about service. Our tea was never refilled once while we were there for 2 hours. When I pay, they don't accept credit card. So I went with cash, then they tried to give me $50 less change, thinking that I paid with $50 bill and not $100. read more

Came here for dinner on a Sunday night. It was really busy, and they have roughly 10 tables, (3 for groups 5+), so call in to reserve! We were pleasantly surprised with how yummy the dishes were. We got the combo for 5, which includes 5 dishes out of the 60 of your choice, and 5 bowls of rice. Don't forget to ask for the tofu pudding dessert ($10 for a large which could feed 6, or $6 for the small). The highlight was the Fish Sauce Chicken. It came in such a big portion for just a half chicken, and was delicious! We also enjoyed the Satay Beef and vermicelli hot pot, which came sizzling hot, with tons of tender beef and vermicelli in a savory satay sauce that was plentiful. The sweet and sour chicken was our favourite as well. This place actually uses chicken breast fillets, deep fried until crispy and coated in a sweet and tangy sauce. Yum! The shrimp and eggplant in satay sauce hot pot, was alright as the portion was small. Wish it had more satay sauce like the vermicelli hot pot did! The service was great and the food came out fast. The tofu pudding is a must! Much better than most HK desert places in the city. We would definitely come back! read more

Location/Service This restaurant is along Woodbine Ave, south of 16th. It's on the ground floor of an office building. So you may have to pay a bit more attention where it is. Plenty of parking available since the office has its own lot, not sure during weekdays if it's busy, but weekends were pretty good. Inside is medium size, can accommodate larger groups if needed, but it's usually quite busy and may require a bit of a wait. Standard furniture and lightning. They have TVs for your entertainment. Staff are nice, attentive and pretty fast with service. Food Came here for lunch and ordered a standard bolognese spaghetti. This is my usual go-to item for HK Cafe cause it's comforting, simple and quick turnaround. This place presents it to look like on a higher scale, which made me thought the taste would be higher in quality. However, it was a little mediocre. The minced meat itself was a little tough to chew, a bit inconsistent throughout. The sauce was good, but I thought the spaghetti was a bit el Dante to my tasting. Price wise for lunch was acceptable. I would probably comeback and try other dishes, judging one dish isn't too representable. There aren't a lot of HK cafes anymore, so hopefully this one continues to run well. read more

This is sort of your average go to HK Cafe style restaurant. We like coming in for lunch because they have all those baked rice and spaghetti lunches. Prices are a bit high compared to places you can go to just 10-15 minutes drive away, but it's a convenient enough location for people working near by to grab a quick, decent lunch. It's not really a place I crave to go back to, but if we're in the area and wondering what to eat, this is sort of that "safe" choice. Service has always been friendly here. There's decent parking, but spaces are rather tight, so just be careful. read more

[Pan Fried Chicken Steak w/ Black Pepper Sauce on Rice] $8.95 - This dish is exactly what is described. Their black pepper sauce is extremely flavorful with regards to how peppery I like my dishes, and it's also flavorful in that the sauce itself is almost like a light gravy kind of thing. The chicken steak is also actually more of a deep fried than pan fried in my opinion which means chicken has a crispy texture on the outside but is still able to somehow maintain being juicy on the inside. The bed of rice that the chicken sits on is fried making the whole dish, one that is a great combination of textures, tastes, and ingredients! HIGHLY RECOMMEND :D [Iced Milk Tea w/less sugar] $1.50 - like all Hong Kong style restaurants, you must pay extra for them to make your drink cold. They have a decent milk tea, and really the only time I get it cold, is when I want to take it home. I never get my iced milk teas made with the full amount of sugar as it's extremely sweet. Even sometimes when I order it with less sugar, it's too sweet but that's just a personal preference. With regards to service, most of the staff here are very friendly and personable. There was one staff member in particular who walked around with a face made from stone and would glare at anyone who dared to ask her a question. My mom had ordered a dish that had "baked" in its name indicating to us that this dish would take longer than the normal dishes. As we had already waited well over half an hour, my mom decided to flag someone down just to see if it was forgotten or if it was still in the oven as it should have been. Unluckily, she flagged down the aforementioned stone-faced waitress. The waitress said to her, "it's baked. It takes longer," and then she walked off while scoffing. I believe we waited at least another 20 minutes before the dish actually arrived. By this time, my mom wasn't even hungry anymore as she was livid with the attitude of that one staff member. Again, 90% of the employees here are lovely people but that one waitress really makes them look horrible. As such, I likely won't be dining in again but I would 100% recommend getting takeout to avoid this situation taking place! read more

Reason for Visit: Heard about this new HK style restaurant so decided to give it a try. Menu: I got their seafood fried noodles and curry beef. The noodles were very well fried and seafood was plenty as you can see from the picture. The curry beef was also deliscious, not too spicy with a touch of sweetness. Only thing was the portions do feel a bit smaller than other HK cafes. The prices are also slightly pricier. I suspect it is probably the high rent. I also was eating dinner so there weren't any specials. Service: Typical service. Nothing outstanding. Atmosphere: Very nicely renovated. I do note, some tables are right next to front door so every time someone comes in, there is a pretty cold breeze. Lots of space and very bright and clean setting. Overall: I don't mind coming here if I am in the area, but I wouldn't drive all the way here for Chinese food as there are HK cafes in the area that I feel are better value. read more

Interesting Hong Kong style restaurant. It can get quite loud, the tables are close together, it is very informal, and there are two large tv's showing the news. It does take awhile for the food to arrive. We got the shredded chicken fairly quickly, and then it was a slow crawl to get our fish and vegetable dish. The food tasted pretty good (except for the steamed chinese perch), but i need food to arrive quicker and won't be back because of that slow service. read more

Food - *** Service - * We were in search of another restaurant to try near home. Decided to use Yelp and saw that this place (hidden in an office building) had pretty good ratings for a Chinese restaurant so we gave it a try. Don't follow Google Maps as it tells you to do a U-turn on Woodbine going north. You can enter making a left at Hooper. We were the first ones in at 5:45pm and we were greeted by a lady, unsmiling asking if we had made reservations. We didn't and she proceeded to take us to a long table in the middle. She plopped some menus down and as my grandma was looking one over, muttering to herself about what type of "dishes" this place served, I guess the lady overheard my grandma say, "Oh, must be Taiwanese food?" And she snapped, "No this is Cantonese food". Wow. My grandmother was just talking to herself. You don't need to be rude about it. My grandma heard her say that and just stated that she saw the Taiwanese way of saying pineapple, and A-veggies that's why she thought Taiwanese and the lady just looked at her and restated that it was Cantonese food. Food came and we ordered a fried noodle dish which was average, asked for the sauce on the side so that the noodles wouldn't get soggy. Noodles were a bit on the oily side though (pool of oil at the bottom of the plate). Eggplant and ground pork dish was pretty good flavour-wise, but way too much thick sauce. The olive, honey ribs were pretty good taste-wish, but again the sauce was so thick! The same ribs are made at Golden Duke Restaurant and they're drier, less mucky. The HK tea wasn't too bad. Again, the lady's service was scary. I didn't want to ask her for things because she just seemed so mean. I didn't want her to snap my head off. I even avoided asking for hot water for my baby's cereal and ended up using the cold water from his water bottle. When I asked her for at teaspoon （茶羹.）she snaps, "鐵匙羹" Wow. All of the things brought to our table were put on the furthest corner! Why? My tea was placed all the way on the other side so I had to walk over to get it (my baby was beside me). She saw me do this, but she brought the sugar later (after I had to ask if it was already added) and put it in that same corner! The last thing that was disturbing was that I heard what sounded like nail clipping in the back! Click click click... Gross. The restaurant did fill up, but I guess the guests are used to the poor service. Next time (if there is a next time), we may need to get the less saucy dishes. read more

My review is based on their lunch and Tea Time menu. The 6 Cafe is a Hong Kong style cafe and offers wide selection of rice and noodles in the lunch menu. Tea time menu has much less choices, but in general is $2 cheaper than the lunch menu. We ordered Guilin soup vermicelli and beef brisket soup ho fan from the Tea Time Menu, fried vermicelli with salted fish and minced pork from Lunch menu. I am not sure if it is because Guilin soup vermicelli is from Tea Time menu, the topping portion was very little. Since the topping and vermicelli proportion were way off, the whole dish was pretty bland. Beef brisket didn't taste good either, not tender enough. And the ho fan broke into pieces. We didn't enjoy the soup noodles at all. However, the fried vermicelli was much better. It was nicely cooked and not greasy/oily. I could smell the aroma from the dish. I saw the fried noodles dishes the other patrons ordered looked very nice too. I may come back but only order the fried rice / noodles dishes. Overall the service was slow and lacking but you cannot expect too much from a Hong Kong style cafe restaurant. read more

This is my first time here. Very generous family-size portions for $12, and the ingredients are fresh. We ordered a Cantonese Chow Mein (a standard classic for testing their menu) and a Chicken Fried Rice wrapped in Lotus Leaf for two people. First impressions: very good "wok hei" (鑊氣)... because you can't *not* hear that loud vent from the kitchen, but also, the quality of ingredients and its infused flavour is difficult to miss. I think tonight, I ate the greenest (in colour) broccoli of my life! The chicken in my fried rice was very well rendered; they did not cheap out on the meat. Lots of finely diced chicken with a good mix of meat and skin to make the fried rice very yummy. The rice could be more moist. I did not get any trouble with overseasoning or oily dishes like most other reviewers. I decided to get a iced milk tea to-go, because I didn't know when I'd be back. To my surprise they used a large bbt cup, larger than what I expected to get! (Forgot to check price, likely ~$3.75). Milk tea was a good balance of ice, tea, milk and syrup, no complaints there. Milk tea: approved. Clean, new decor, comfy seats. Their staff are friendly and efficient. Before I stepped inside, I already appreciated that they played official TVB tv. I also noticed and appreciated the unique tea pots and serving plates that they used. This place really gives you the HK feels :) I will definitely be back to try out their happy hour menu, my favourite meal of the day. read more

It was a beautiful sunny Saturday so I decided to take my family out for dinner. Unfortunately, the sun set on our experience before we even started eating. Food 2/5 ---------- First off, we wanted to try the rice noodle w/ beef since that's our favourite at Chinese style cafes. However, when it came to ordering, they told us that they were out of rice noodles. Really? It was only 6 pm...on a Saturday...and you don't have rice noodles which is a big part of your menu? Mind blown. We also wanted to order their steam rice with shrimp but that was also unavailable. At this point, we were pretty frustrated, but we decided to still give them a try. We ordered their sweet and sour pork. It was okay, there were some inconsistency in their batter to pork ratio. Not too big of a deal. However, there were several pieces that were just fat. Ugh! Next up was the BBQ eel fried rice. This tasted pretty good, it was full of flavour and they had quite a bit of small pieces of eel in it. I would say this was the best dish we had. However, I can't say the same for their steamed fish. The fish itself was very bland, definitely needed some salt. The flavour was overpowered by the preserved vegetables on top. It wasn't worth the price in my opinion. The final dish we ordered was the fried egg noodles w/ chicken in satay sauce. The egg noodle itself was pretty good with some crispy parts. However, for a dish that supposed to have chicken in it, there weren't much. It was more of shredded chicken than chicken pieces. The sauce was very thick and pretty salty. Overall, this dish was below my expectation of how egg noodle dishes are made. Service 2/5 ---------- The service was just okay. We were given the menu when we sat down and they gave us a tea pot, pretty standard. But it was hard to get their attention even though it wasn't too busy when we went. Also we were seated right behind the section where the waiter was sorting the utensils, so it was pretty irritating to hear the spoons and forks hitting against each other. Atmosphere 3/5 ---------- The cafe was pretty spacious with a modern feel. I like how they displayed jars of herbal jelly along the side where you have the option to purchase. The TV was a nice addition to the place. I would say they should consider changing some of their chairs as they were pretty rusty. Overall, my first time experience at this cafe was pretty disappointing. Many of their popular items on their menu were unavailable, food qualify was below average, and service was just okay. Unfortunately I won't be coming back here again. read more
