A Chinese restaurant that offers food at very reasonable prices. They offer many different dishes to choose from. They are currently offering lunch specials for $10.88 comes with soup and drink. We ordered a deep fried spicy salt and pepper pork chop on rice and a homestyle stir fried vermicelli noodles. Both were pretty good and the portions were decent. However, I wasn't quite pleased with the overall service. When I tried to order the vermicelli without onions, they said they couldn't make that request. Other than that the food is still good so I'll be coming back to try out the other dishes.

Instant noodle & toast breakfast combo

Came here for breakfast around 10 am on a Sunday. There was no line up, and a few empty tables. We were a party of 10 and had to split up between two tables. The food is very average. The satay vermicelli wasn't really flavourful. The egg with toast was a little dry. The instant noodle with sausage and egg was good, but you can't really go wrong with that. Portions are average, not really big. I got the iced lemon tea with my meal and it was really good. The service was mediocre, staff were quick but not really friendly. The food did come out pretty fast though.

A tasty mom and pop shop Hong Kong cafe with all the staples and classics you can think of! The owner of the restaurant is super nice and friendly. She came to take our orders quickly and the food also came out pretty fast. What we got: Tomato borscht soup 5/5 - I loved that the borscht soup had large chunks of beef in it compared to other Hong Kong cafes Fried chicken with pepper sauce on rice 5/5 - Perfectly fried chicken cutlet served on a bed of rice. The black pepper sauce was great and delicious. Baked pork chop on rice 5/5 - This is a classic and a must get at any Hong Kong cafe. I liked that there was cheese baked ontop of my rice. Nice and saucey for every bite. Beef fried flat noodles 4/5 - Another classic dish that you can't go wrong with. This was great for sharing. Fried pork chop & wings with fries 4/5 - Can't go wrong with anything fried. These were crispy and delicious but nothing spectacular. Overall a great place to dine at if you're looking for some homey Hong Kong cafe classics. Love supporting small local restaurants like this.

came here, it's a decent HK cafe spot. I tried the tomato sauce baked porkchop on spaghetti for $12.50. It also came with soup and a hot drink (you could add $1 for a cold one). the price is decent and the food is alright. However, there was nothing that particularly stood out to me and in a food plaza such as new kennedy square, it's simply not good enough. overall rating: 3.5 stars.

*3.5 There are quite a few hk cafes in this plaza where Ming's is but the last two times I have gravitated to this one. The prices are affordable and the portion sizes are generous and can we talk about variety?! They have so much to offer! I do also like how they have a decent selection of afternoon tea specials that are at a fair price. I do enjoy their baked pork chop rice although, they could stir fry the rice a bit more with some extra egg. As for the afternoon tea menu, I have tried their satay beef with vermicelli in soup and deep fried pork chop with fruit salad. The food was not spectacular but still satisfying. The hubs usual at a HK cafe is the hainanese chicken rice. Overall the dish was good but the sauces do need some work compared to the other cafes in the area. Lastly, I did order a party tray recently and I do have to say the prices were fair. The chicken wings tray was tasty and the guests did enjoy it very much!

Baked pork chop in Hong Kong style

This review is based on a takeout experience. Ordered their signature baked pork chop in Hong Kong style. The food was made fresh to order. While I enjoyed the taste, I did feel the dish had room for improvement - the pork chop had more fried batter and fat rather than meat. This place wouldn't be my first choice given the number of other HI style cafe in and around the area.

Typical Hong Kong Style "Cha Chaan Tang" that still have good price and good quality. A set meal with Soup, Baked Rice and a drink for $13.50+tax. The soup still have a strong taste of tomato and with little bit of vegetables and meat. I think it tasted great. Baked Rice - Good portion and tasted quite good compare to other restaurants. The spaghetti could use a bit more sauce. With increasing cost of food...etc. This restaurant still deliver good quality food with affordable price.

Being stuck at home during covid, i reminisce the days of going out to my favorite spots and so this place was on my list of "restaurants most missed". What do I miss? These two dishes! Baked to perfection, their hong kong style pork chop baked rice (or spaghetti) is a must try. Generous amount of pork chops on a bed of soft and fluffy fried rice smother in a rich tomato sauce with cheese on top. I think that vivid description is worth salivating over! Their Puff pastry soup is worth a try as well! A rare gem these days at cha chang teeng around Toronto/Markham, this pipping hot soup is both comforting and warming. What's great about this is that the Puff pastry soup is hearty on its own if you want something light. As you break through the outer layer to get to the soup, soak some of the Puff pastry in the soup so that it captures the flavour from the cream of chicken and mushroom. I give this a thumbs up and recommend you try it. Let's show our support during these tough times by visiting local eateries and showing that we care.

Had a craving for HK style sizzling plate but good ones are difficult to find anymore. This restaurant has been around many years but first time reviewing. As usual inside decor in these places are not what you expect but still relatively clean and spacious. Of course to satisfy my craving ordered the mixed Pork Chop, Chicken Wings and Hot Dog hot sizzling plate in gravy sauce. One of the key experiences ordering this dish was to watch the waiter pour the gravy on the hot plate while you witness it sizzling and steam right in front of you. Perhaps for safety reasons and to not burn you it was done at the table aside. Bummers. Meal comes with choice of vegetable, cream or chinese soup along with dinner bun and side choice of fries, rice or spaghetti. Decent but gravy was very salty. Also ordered the baked Pork Chop with Spaghetti. Meat tender and very saucy so wasn't bad at all. Both meals came with complimentary hot beverages or upgrading to cold drinks for $0.75. My go to is Ice Lemon Tea, shockingly tasty actually. Overall for the price you pay you get decent value since portion is good size. However taste could be improved.

There was a long line up next door at Blue Ocean Cafe so I went to Mings yesterday at 10 AM. Pretty sad photo for $8.75 and there was no toast. That is a hot dog and most places offer a sausage for breakfast. I think that is a thin slice of salami which I did not enjoy. Hash Brown tasted like chicken wings because they used old oil. Fresh cantaloupe was acceptable. HK tea was excellent. The restaurant was very clean and the service was OK, but the place was empty. I should have waited 5 minutes in line for very good next door.

Satay chicken fried udon. So many toppings, 5/5!!!!

Fav HK diner for dinner in my books. Usually I brace myself for disappointment at HK diners because they're not known for their service or their quality of food, but this one made me question if I was dreaming. Service was very fast and staff are friendly. They close at 10 and we were staying because the show on their tv ends at 10. We hurried to get our bill but they were like, that's ok the show isn't over, feel free to stay. Like how nice is that! Dishes came promptly too, meaning that the dishes were hot when they arrived. Yay! Decor is... Well, let's just say this isn't a place you'd want to set a candle lit dinner. But I mean it's a HK diner so what were y'all expecting? OKAY SO THE FOOD. Cheap, and big portions! I love that they have enough toppings for my udon. Actually, they gave a lot and I'm so glad. Their fish in cream sauce on rice was great and very cheesy. My fav! Also, their pork and chicken chop with garlic sauce on rice qas great too. The sauce wasn't too strong. It was aromatic and delicious. But lemme tell you about the satay chicken udon I had. Oh my goodness. So many toppings and they had strips of green and red pepper to help complicate the taste. The noodles weren't oily. You could actually taste the gusto the chef put in when he was cooking this delectable dish in his wok. Oh my gosh. Definite 5/5. And then! We had free dessert! It was my fav. I have to say, this is a very unique recipe of coconut sago and I love it. This coconut sago has taro chunks and egg. The egg was the truly unique bit because it actually made the dessert feel smoother and it made the whole thing more aromatic. Usually I despise taro with every fibre of my being but not today! My mom even said this may be the only time I did not puke at taro. My dinner was $9.50, came with a hot drink (I chose lemon water), a soup (I chose cream of veg but they also have Chinese soup), and if you're lucky, a dessert. What a deal, especially with the amount of food i got! If you're a skeptic of HK diners like I am, please come to this place for dinner. It will change your mind. I will definitely come back. I mean this isn't my first time here, lol.

Great price, wide variety, good food. Must try their deep fried pork chop. Suoer crunch and moist inside. Love their tomato pumpkin soup noodle.

Ming's Restaurant is another Hong Kong Style Cafe in the Chinese plaza at Kennedy and Hwy 7. Good thing about it is open at 7 AM for breakfast 7 days a week! OK who's in their right mind will be up at 7 AM on weekends if one doesn't need to work? I don't know.. :P Breakfast starts at $2.50 with a sandwich and a drink.. which is A-OK for me! Nothing great but nothing bad, that's how we like our cheap quick breakfasts to be.. and I able even pick up the bill and treat my friend! Cash Only!

The food here is very generous. We ordered the 4-person set with two side pots. Tomato Braised Beef Brisket and Chicken Stewed with Mushrooms and the portions were huge. Both pots arrived steaming hot and filled to the brim, clearly meant for sharing. The braised beef was rich and hearty, while the chicken pot was comforting and full of flavor, making it perfect for group dining or cold weather meals. Combined with the rustic, traditional décor, it really feels like authentic Northeast Chinese comfort food. The food and atmosphere were excellent, though the service was a bit lacking. The lid on my shredded potato salad wasn't on properly and the sauce leaked through my Fantuan bag. The food gets five stars. Sadly, the lid on my potato salad wasn't securely on the container. I had my food in my insulated bag, so the sauce leaked into the Fantuan bag and my insulated bag. Luckily, my car was fine. As a result, my rating is four stars. I wanted to try a new eatery. I looked at my Fantuan app and noticed He Bei Chinese Cuisine. It had dumplings and snacks that I enjoy, so I said yes to placing a dinner order from this eatery. I ordered these items: - Pork and chive steamed dumplings (large has 14 dumplings) - Tea eggs - Shredded potato salad On Fantuan, when you purchase $15 worth of food, you get the shredded potato salad for a cent. Deal! After placing my order near my home, I drove over to this eatery. The drive was ten minutes. I was given an estimated time of fifteen minutes. It was ready in ten minutes. I had no problem finding this eatery. There was plenty of parking. I pulled into a spot and walked in. I saw the Yubu sign. My heart sank, as I loved the Korean tofu pockets from this joint. I liked seeing places to sit down and eat at He Bei. Nice! A woman behind the counter came over. I said that I had a Fantuan order. She talked to me in Mandarin. I don't understand it, but we were fine communicating with each other in our languages. She pointed out the blue Fantuan bag on the table behind me. I thanked her and wished her a nice day. She said thanks right back. I put my food in my insulated bag. With the leak, I managed to launder the Fantuan bag and clean my insulated bag. After I cleaned up, I had dinner at home. The food was amazing and filling! I loved the shredded potato salad. Sure, a lot of the sesame-soy sauce was gone. However, it tasted yummy. It was worth the cent! The steamed pork and chive dumplings were so good. I didn't dunk them in soy sauce. The filling had so much moisture that I felt like I was eating soup dumplings. The filling had yummy flavour and the dumplings were steamed to perfection. Excellent! You can buy frozen dumplings from this place. I'll need to do it. The tea eggs were the perfect snack while streaming hockey games. I peeled the shells off both of them. The eggs were cracked to allow the amazing soy-based sauce to marinate and get into the eggs. Delicious! I'm a fan. I'll take a closer look at the lids on my food next time. I'm glad that I put food in my insulated bag. It saved cleaning my car's upholstery! (59)

So we ordered Maggi Lobster (~3lbs) for $34/lb, and stir fried beef with Chinese broccoli (gai lan). The lobster was cooked perfectly, with the Maggi sauce not being too salty. They definitely gave us all the pieces of the 3lbs lobster. The gai lan had a bitter aftertaste, which is common for this vegetable. I wished they had a way to get rid of that. They were generous with the amount of beef and was well marinated. The cut wasn't that great, but that is to be expected. I don't think they added much MSG or at least used good quality ones, as we did not feel overly thirsty later in the evening. They give free daily soup and dessert. The individual New Century slow boiled soup is hardest to share but secure some empty bowls and you can divide the hefty portion. In the winter, there's a silkiness to the piping hot consommé that sooths a dry throat and has an umami essence infused with abalone, ginseng, and pork. There's plenty to choose from in the house signature combo platter including roasted duck, soy sauce chicken, BBQ pork, pork slices, and seaweed salad. Saving my stomach for the later dishes, I had a taste of the duck (a good start with crispy skin) and BBQ pork (satisfactory and well flavoured). With the generous portion of chicken in the combo platter, the slow cooked chicken with abalone broth seemed like overkill. I've never been a huge fan of this dish that's served cold since I prefer chicken hot. Still, I understand it's the jelly layer between the skin and meat that people enjoy. And to be fair, the chicken was tender, and New Century certainly didn't skimp on the ginger and scallion oil. For those who tend to fill-up before the "main dishes", the stars of the combo arrive mid-meal. The stir-fried Vancouver crabs with silver fish in HK style spicy sauce needs to be eaten at arrival as the crunchy coating is best straight from the fryer. And despite not looking spicy, the dish has a light heat that permeates in the background. Additionally, the crab was fresh and meaty, cooked well so it remained delicately flakey. The amount of sweet and sticky sauce used in the stir-fried lobsters with scallion in Maggie sauce was well balanced, lightly covering the crustaceans. Both lobsters were substantial; even after eating many pieces, we still had plenty of leftovers. This is a long review head to Gastro World for the rest.

If you break it down, it's actually such a good deal: the snakehead upgrade is usually +$3 each and their handcrafted drinks run around $6. No extra charge for any of that with this combo, so... why not? I got the scallion pickled cabbage fish soup (mild spice) and my friend went for the Laotan boiled fish (a bit spicier). For the snack, we picked half Taiwanese sausage and half glutinous rice cake to get both savoury and dessert vibes. When the bowls came out, they looked huge, but the portion was kinda deceiving... it's a very wide, shallow bowl, so the amount of actual soup wasn't as generous as it looked. For a fish soup restaurant, I definitely expected a deeper bowl. But the fish itself was fresh with that nice bouncy texture, plus vermicelli and a solid amount of pickled veggies. They also have a self-serve rice station with both white rice and multigrain rice. The rice cookers even have little signs showing when a new batch is cooking, which I thought was cute and convenient. Overall, flavour wise, it was solid and the promo made it worth the visit. But I am not sure if I'd come back again.

New sauerkraut fish soup spot in Markham…read more A chain from asia that has finally made it's way to Markham. They are known for their sauerkraut fish soup that comes with unlimited self serve rice on the side. Servers were attentive, spacing of the seating and tables were tight. Often times people kept brushing up against my chair while getting up to go get their rounds of rice. Although not a deal breaker, was annoying while trying to enjoy your food. The portions are big enough for 2 if you get a large, but since it was our first time we wanted to try 2 different soups. Here's what we got: Chicken wings 4/5 - Came out raw the first time after we bit into it. But quickly flagged a server to let them know how this issue. They brought us a new one shortly after that was perfectly cooked, juicy and crispy on the outside. Laotan boiled fish with pickled cabbage and chili 4/5 - Their number one classic so we had to try. It's sour and spicy with the right amount of kick to it. Basa fish filets were also tasty. Came out luke warm. Princess's tomato fish 4/5 - Packed with tomato flavour. Savoury and paired well with the basa fish filet. Came with bean curd noodles as well. Came out luke warm. Easily would be a five star review if both soups that we got came out piping hot rather than lukewarm. Regardless, a great spot for a quick in and out meal.

Meaty pork strips coated with thin batter, each piece is wrapped in a glossy sauce and sprinkled with white sesame. Perfect dish to go with rice. Double Cooked Pork Slices: Classic Sichuan-style dish. The pork belly is first boiled, then stir-fried again with chili bean paste and green bell pepper. Very flavorful and savoury, another great dish to go with rice. Soy Sauce Fried Rice: One of my fav childhood dishes, and they delivered very well. It's such a huge portion that we could only finish it in two days. Service was great, considerate and friendly. They even pour water for you before you sit down and pack up the leftovers for you after you finish. You might have to wait if you don't have a reservation, but the turnaround is pretty fast. Wait list is old school...someone writes your name and number in a notebook and you are called when your table is ready. The interior is reminiscent of the old school taverns you see in those old Chinese movies where the traveller has spent days walking or on a horse and comes upon a tavern where the interior is all wooden tables and benches. Dining style and dishes are all family style. You order a couple of dishes and then add rice. Spice level can be adjusted and even at 'less' the heat level was high. Definitely generous use of Szechwan peppercorns! Food is very flavourful and depending on preference some might find the oil level high. The clientele is mainly Mandarin speaking and if you are Asian they will immediately communicate in Mandarin with you but I did see the staff switch to English where needed. Service was patient and attentive.
