I have been meaning to drop by Lee Chen Asian Bistro for the longest time. I often have been sidetracked by the eateries around it. In this plaza, I have now eaten at every restaurant, except for The Keg and Popeyes. It's nice to say that I've been to Lee Chen and I have no hesitation returning. Last Saturday, I dropped by for a late lunch. Lee Chen is next door to Ramen Yutaka. I found a parking spot and backed into it. I then walked over to this eatery. It's a spacious, pretty restaurant. I saw the sign that said to wait to be seated. I got Amy, who was delightful. She led me to a table. It was comfortable being here for a casual late lunch. She asked if I wanted something to drink. It's Coke products. I got a Diet Coke. She was attentive getting me refills. Running errands got me thirsty. I ended up with three drinks during my stay here. You use a tablet to place your order. What makes this eatery attractive is that it has dim sum. I probably changed my order three times. I wanted dim sum. I also saw the noodle soups, so I had to compromise. Here's what I ordered food-wise: - Soup-filled pork dumplings (6) - Wonton pork noodle soup Another female server came over. She started talking to me in Mandarin. I had to stop her. I don't speak Mandarin. She switched things up and spoke to me in English and asked if I had placed my order. I said that I had placed an order for a Diet Coke. Amy came over and picked up the tablet. All was great. She sent my order to the kitchen. I got my soup-filled dumplings first. They were perfectly steamed. The wrappers were thin. There was lots of soup. The pork filling was tasty. They were perfection. They didn't need the vinegar dipping sauce. I loved my bowl of wonton noodle soup. The wontons were tasty. The filling and number of wontons I got were generous. The broth was clear and perfect. I loved the fried omelette that was shredded and placed on top of the soup. The seaweed and green onions made this dish yummy. Oh, the noodles. They were perfect, too. I got a lot of them. I got a warm sesame ball with red bean paste in it. It was delicious and a great way to end my meal. The only downside was getting my server to get me the bill. I actually walked up to the counter to get it. I paid with a credit card. I tipped and tapped. Done! I visited the women's washroom before I left. The hardware on the door of a woman was so elegant. The stall that I used was clean. It was clean. No complaints. My wife was there with her bestie. They were there at 7 and ordered food at 7:15. The servers gave them the bill at 8:10 saying that they were closing even though the restaurant was supposed to close at 9:00 as posted at the front. Nice spacious restaurant that is not busy. Service is friendly and attentive. Food is good, not oily, not full of starch slurry sauces. Taste is on point with a nice balance of texture on dishes (ginger beef is balanced with ample crunchy water chestnuts, black bean chicken combines nicely with onions and bell peppers). Pork belly over rice was pretty good. Though it was an "appetiser" it was big. While tasty, there wasn't any sauce on the rice not directly covered by the meat mixture so parts were slightly dry. Braised tofu was decent, albeit a bit salty. Wuxi spare ribs were ok. House fried noodles were so-so: they tasted like they were tossed with the meat shreds & mustard greens - they didn't taste fried. Got given complimentary lychee green tea with lychee jelly. Everything tastes surprisingly good!! When we take out the fortune cookie out of the paper bag we were like oh no..... cuz we associate fortune cookie as non authentic lol. But nooooo everything we ordered was good!! Even the fortune cookie itself! Full of egg flavor. We ordered through door dash a house fried rice about $16.99, A six piece soup dumpling $7.99, a 6 piece pan fried dumpling $7.99 and deep fried popcorn chicken $7.99. With fees and tax it was $56 all in. A bit pricey but again it's food deliver service. And surprisingly it was quite fast today. The fried rice was standard but it's still good, good portion, box is packed, good amount of shrimp and meat. Not exciting but it was good. Soup dumpling was surprisingly good! I did not expect the skin to be thin and juicy inside! And it does! Just like you eat at the restaurant! It was sadly a bit cold due to delivery time but we were amazed by this quality. The pan fried pork dumpling was good too, very meaty, not dry, not as juicy as soup dumpling. The popcorn chicken was crispy and meaty, still hot and juicy, not too small pieces that you will be eating just batter. Overall very satisfied except the price is a tad bit high. Maybe next time will order directly. Btw the packaging was good too, some with paper box some with the black reusable plastic box and wrapped and sealed with foil. The problem with Lee Chen is that they don't know who their audience is. First off, the food is excellent, authentic Shanghai cuisine. Everything is great - xiaolongbao, soy bean drink, dough fritters, fried dough fritters, snow pea leaves, pork bao, etc. I'd even say that their Shanghai food is better than ding Tai Fung and ala kitchen. The problem however is their identity. The decor is top notch. But their name and appearance would make most Asian think that this place is a PF Chang's. The location is in strip plaza beside the Keg. For any caucasian looking for knock off Chinese food, they come here looking for chicken balls and don't find any. This works downtown but not in the suburbs. So what do you get? A pretty much empty restaurant, which is too bad because the food is good. My first impression on this new restaurant in the Walmart plaza st Wellington/Leslie is very positive. The decor is modern with a touch of traditional Chinese; cleanliness is very good and service is efficient and polite. Seating is very comfortable and the ambience is very good. Ordering with a cool iPad is neat too. Now the food: well presented, food was fresh/clean, decent tasting (not as good as "gold standard" in Shanghai food in the city but acceptable. Food portions are very small for the PRICE! The menu choices are good but there is nothing special such as signature dishes. Basically this is your typical Shanghai and Chinese food menu you would see in Markham and Rhill. So what happened? Where did the ball get dropped? Pricing is waaay out of line! There are a few items on the menu that is consistent with other places just south of here but for the most part, the items are about 25% more than comparable places in Markham and RIchmond Hill. They also charged $2.99 for tea like dim sum places which is not consistent with other similar places. The last place that when out of business in this spot had the same issue (pricing too high). I'm not sure if the rent is too high in this mall that pricing needs to reflect it or the owners believe that since they are "the only game in town", they can charge a premium. The reality is most people who live close to here will just drive the 15 minutes to FMP so they are not really "the only place" around here. The is by far the best Asian food I've had since moving to Newmarket. I'm obsessed with the bbq chicken and cannot not order it. The black pepper beef is also incredible - it's big chunks of steak and a little spice - perfection! I would say they should add more veggie side options because i would totally add that to my orders. It's a bit more pricey than you'll usually see for Asian food, but the quality is miles away and entirely worth the extra $! read more

I was surprised that there was a big chinese restaurant that was close to where I live. Coming in on Sunday night; the restaurant wasn't as busy yet. We made a reservation and got our seat right away. The staff was very friendly in setting up our table and to give us our sets/menu. How things are ordered is through an iPad which make it very convenient. There's a good selection of food to choose from, so I'm sure there's something for everyone. After ordering the food, a server will come to check up and confirm the order with you before finalizing it. The food didn't take too long to arrive even though we asked for everything to comment out at once. The portion of the dishes were pretty big overall, and even though the number of items we ordered was meant for 2 people, I can easily say it's enough for 3-4 people. Overall, most dishes were pretty good, and I was very full. Honestly a really nice place if you're uptown in the area and craving for Chinese food. It was a fail for me when I went with some friends for lunch while in the area. My friend wanted to go here as the ramen place next door was closed during the holidays. I was initially in awe by the renovations and the ipad to order. However, it did look more like an AYCE sushi restaurant. We had a tough time to choose the dishes as there was an extensive list. Once we submitted the order, we had to pass it to a manager to place it to the kitchen which I though was weird. In terms of food, I have had better. They have lunch combo was nothing special where there was a salad, fried rice and a protein in a bowl of fried wonton wrap. The fried rice was bland and the entire dish was not memorable. The steamed xioa long bao was also average at best while the steamed bao used to wrap protein for another dish was also not the best I ever had. This restaurant opened for awhile awhile now and have driven by several times but finally had a chance to try. They also have a few locations around the GTA. Restaurant is very nicely decorated with many pieces of pretty artwork surrounding the place. Very big location and very clean as well. They offer a nice selection of dishes that can be ordered not only through their iPad but also on a separate dinner combo menu that suits parties of 2-6. We ordered a few dishes including appetizers Pork Steamed Dumplings and Pork Belly Wrap along with entrees Spicy Szechuan Shrimp/Scallop, Beef/Broccoli and Shrimp/Pork Fried Rice. The pork belly was very soft and the complimentary spicy sauce that came with it was a perfect pairing. Scallops were huge but sauce was not as spicy as I expected. The fried rice was a huge portion enough for takeout if you can't finish. We topped off the dinner with the Golden Fried Sesame Ball with Red Bean paste. That was extremely good as the fry level was perfect and the red bean was not overly sweet. Dish prices are pretty standard ranging from entrees $15-20 but the quality made up for their cost. This location is conveniently located right next to Highway 404, so it is very accessible. First impressions when I went in was that the restaurant is very bright, clean, and big. The staff are so nice and friendly as well! For an appetizer, we got soup-filled pork dumplings, or commonly known as xiao long bao. They are my absolute favourite as the dumpling wrap is paper thin and there is so much soup inside the dumpling! For the main dish, I recommend trying the wuxi spareribs! They're slow-cooked and the meat literally falls off the bone! For dessert, we ordered the sesame balls with red bean paste inside and tang yuan coated with ground peanuts. Both desserts were made to order as they were so crispy and hot when served. Inside the tang yuan, there is also black sesame paste. The nuts add a great crunch! Both are such a perfect finishing touch to the delicious meal! It is definitely a great place to check out for family dinners and gatherings. This restaurant definitely has the potential to be one of the best Chinese restaurant out there. The decor is immaculate with nice Chinese decor and black and white murals as the background. The staffs were friendly than anything, but somehow not very professional, since we encountered some errors in the order even though we have confirmed it. I found that odd why she was asking me why I take photos of the food. I just find the way she asked me was just not too professional. The electronic ordering notepad was just a little confusing since I found it not user friendly at all since there were just too many categories and I couldn't find the items I wanted to pick from the categories. The food was good, but I found the portion to be a little small. The sweet and sour pork was good since it was still crispy, but there was not a lot of depth to flavour of the sweet and sour sauce. The shao long bao was good with really thin skin, but the skin got cold really quickly and there was not enough broth put into the filling. The fried dumpling was good, but the skin somehow got really cold quickly also that it became really doughy after less than five minutes of sitting. I did like the fact that it was not over caramelized. There were a lot of improvements that can be made. Yassss finally xiao long bao (soup dumplings) in aurora! I absolutely love dumplings rather is steam (XLB) or pan fried. I can get fried dumplings at Lars BBQ but not XLB yet so I was super pumped when Lee Chen open its door in Aurora. A few of us came here for lunch on a weekday. We each ordered the business lunch menu, an order of XLB and the pan fried dumplings. The XLB was legit but a bit on the skimpy side. The pan fried dumpling were delicious and normal size. I had the ginger beef while the Mr. had the sweet and sour chicken. I really like my ginger beef, plenty of ginger and green onion, very flavour and the beef was very tender. The sweet and sour chicken was thinly battered unlike most resto where half is either the batter or fat. We really liked the decor, very modern yet it incorporated a lot of tradition Chinese touches. The mill work was beautifully done by JNR Millwork. I think the business lunch is reasonably priced however looking at the regular menu where the average entrees are $16.99, I think that is a bit pricey. While the food is good, I'm not sure if I would frequently visit Lee Chen at those prices perhaps only on special occasions. read more

Second visit and still enjoying the food and service here. Again, pricing was ridiculous. $15.xx or $16.xx per dish. This time I was extremely disappointed with the braised tofu dish in the veggies section. It was ridiculously small and I kid you not it was one handful of tofu, shanghai bak choi, bamboo shoot and shitake mushrooms (few pieces). I was actually shocked when it came. Sitting there, I looked at my wife and thought to myself.. You have the audacity to hand me a dish like That? Otherwise everything else was good, especially the noodles and scallion pan cake NOMS! Now I can avoid excessive drives down to Markham. In place of the old Aurora Chinese Restaurant, Lee Chen disposed of the French Provincial look and built a really nice, bright eatery. The menu looks pretty good, as using an iPad to order allows for the use of decent pictures. But the real thing is what counts. I ordered the Chicken in Black Bean Sauce. It had large chunks of tender, juicy, white meat cooked perfectly. The sauce was especially nice, although the ratio of meat to green peppers and onions could be better. The Pork Dumplings were probably the best I have ever had. At many other restaurants, they are "pot sticker burnt" on the bottom and greasy on the top. But these were the most perfect tan/gold on the bottom and delicious all the way through. I wound up there again the next day for lunch. I ordered the Ginger Beef lunch special, but I think the order got mixed up as I was served Black Pepper Beef. No problem. The beef was incredibly tender, served in a crispy wonton bowl that succumbed to the gravy over time. The spring roll was crispy and tasty, and the fried rice was light. I'm pretty happy to have this place close by, but it is definitely "spendy"compared to my frequent trips to Richmond Court. So far, I'm a big fan! read more

Soup filling was flavourful, but the wrap itself was somewhat thin which broke easily when trying to pick it up with chopsticks. We also got the Pan fried dumplings are really good also, lots of meat and flavour. Green onion pancake is a must get, was nice and crispy but soft on the inside. Would not recommend getting the vegetable steam dumpling. Almost like the dumplings you get at dim sum but not quite the same. Not really our cup of tea. Overall decor is really nice and modern. I was super excited to see a dumpling place opening in aurora. My friend and I ordered the xiao long bao (soup dumplings), pan fried dumplings, cold sesame noodles and a braised beef noodles. The food was good, but not anything special (compared to the other places in Markham). I found dishes a little on the pricier side. $15 for the beef noodles, $7 for a super small portion of the sesame noodles. The decor and renovations are suuper pretty and modern and there is ample seating. You also get to order on an iPad and see all the pictures of the food. I didn't even know Lee Chen existed until I had pulled into my parking spot with intentions of going to a different restaurant. I noticed this place down a bit from it, decided to give it a try; and I'm sure glad I did. This was a Friday afternoon, and so I tried out one of their lunch combos. They have a number of different choices, with varying prices, and I got the General Tso's chicken with broccoli and steamed rice (you can choose fried rice if you want). It also came with a vegetarian spring roll. For me, food quality and taste were both amazing. A lot of places seem to use poor cuts of dark meat chicken covered in a sort of thick batter, and deep fried. Not Lee Chen. They used white meat chicken lightly dusted in corn starch or flour, and stir fried to perfection. The sauce had a different taste than I'm used to, but it was really good. Both the rice and broccoli was perfectly cooked, and the spring roll and dip were great too. I also liked how I was treated in the restaurant. I got mine to go, but they still insisted I sit at a table while I waited, and brought me a glass of ice water (I didn't even ask for it, but it turns out I was thirsty enough to finish it all). And my food only took a few minutes to prepare, and I was on my way. The only negative I could find was in the takeout packaging, which was a little much. The food was in a plastic take out container, which was then put inside a plastic bag, and then this was put inside a cardboard gift bag like thing. Blessed to finally have an asian restaurant that serves Shanghai food up in the North. Woot Woot. Not going to lie, this review might be "slightly" biased because we need to keep these guys in business to encourage more restaurants to open up in the North. Located in the plaza along Wellington St E and First Commerce Dr in Aurora, surrounded by a large variety of other restaurants ranging from fast food to steakhouses like Thai Villa, The Keg, and Popeyes is Lee Chen Asian Bistro. This restaurant opened up not too long ago so it is still establishing its clientele. The restaurant is brightly lit and shockingly big inside. From the exterior windows, I did not expect such a large space, but the tables were spaced out nicely to ensure that you won't be rubbing any shoulders with other people when eating your meal or bumping into servers when food is served. Everything was very tidy and clean, which it should be considering that the restaurant is fairly new. The main dining room is sectioned off with large tables for families of more than 4 as well as sofa seats along the walls for smaller parties. Their menu is quite extensive and includes a lot of visuals which helps when making decisions on what to eat. Food orders are placed through tablets by the customer themselves which eliminates unnecessary time wasted on trying to wave down inattentive servers. As for the pricing, I do know of cheaper Shanghai restaurants in Markham, but I would think that is partially due to higher competition in the area. Considering that this is one of the few asian restaurants up in Aurora, from a business standpoint, the pricing is quite reasonable for the quality of food and service I received during my dining experience. I came to have dinner with my family at around 5:20pm on a Friday to check out the place since we haven't been when it first opened. There were a few tables seated as it was still relatively early. We were curious to see how it compared with the other Shanghai restaurants we normally frequent in Markham. If it was good, then we'd have an extra place to order take out from on the lazy days when mom doesn't want to cook. To really determine if a Shanghai restaurant is any good, you HAVE TO try their Xiao Long Bao, which is steamed soup filled dumplings, so we ordered two of those which come with 6 dumplings per order. Next we ordered the pan fried pork dumplings, the salty glutinous rice roll, their fiery wonton, a hot & sour soup as well as their chicken Shanghai fried rice cake. It didn't take long before our food started to arrive, so my tummy was thankful. The xiao long bao had a very thin and soft skin that wrapped around the flavoured soup and pork meat so we were off to a good start. The pan fried pork dumplings were very nicely fried with a golden crispy edge on one side. The meat inside was very well flavoured and moist which meant it wasn't overcooked. The salty glutinous rice roll comes in 3 portions, so if you have more than 3 people at the table, you might want to consider putting in another order so there's a portion for everyone. Dad had ordered the fiery wonton which is spicy just from the name. Even though my spice tolerance is close to zero I tried one just to see what it was like. Out of all the items we ordered that evening, I think the fiery wonton was my least favourite, not because it was spicy, but because the wonton wrap seemed a little tough and undercooked. As for the hot & sour soup, which was served in a large soup bowl, can easily serve up to two people. From the name, it is hot and sour. This soup might not be for everyone, so you're either going to like it or you're not. The soup isn't a brothy one, but rather thick with lots of thinly sliced ingredients in it ranging from vegetables to meat. Lastly for the Shanghai fried rice cake which we couldn't finish due to the portion size, was nicely cooked where the rice cakes were nice and soft and well flavoured with a little hint of soya sauce served with vegetables and chicken. Overall I had a pleasant dining experience and encourage people to give this restaurant a try. I'll probably be back to try other items on their menu. read more

If you're looking for authentic Chinese food in Aurora, you may need to look in another area. The price was quite high. What I liked was... cleanliness, and staff were very nice. Decor wasn't bad. It was also very family friendly! They even gave us baby utensils. There's also a change area in the ladies restroom! I don't recall ever seeing a change area in any Chinese restaurant except now. This place is awful. It's grossly overpriced for half the portions you'd normally get at any HALF DECENT chinese restaurant. The quality isn't even good either. The pricing is absolutely criminal. I ordered a sweet and sour noodle dish which we ended up throwing out because it was packed with vinegar and tasted awful, and I also got the pork belly noodle soup which was acceptable but hardly worth the $14-15 I paid for it. This Chinese restaurant is not the ordinary Asian restaurant. You can see the owner's passion on making quality of food to the customers. They use good meat in each dish. The braised pork balls, sweet & sour pork/chicken as well as the steam filled dumpling are the best I have ever tasted in Town. The Wuxi Spareribs is amazing too. The lunch combos are in reasonable price in good standard. During the pandemic, we ordered take out lunch frequently. My first take- out order is very impressed as all placed in good order with a decent paper bag. When you see the well package with tin foil wrapping to keep the food warm enough till arriving to your home, you will know the owner not just selling foods for money but with heart. The take out plastic containers & paper containers are all recyclable with good material. The free sweet sesame sticky balls is delicious. Some people think their foods are bit pricey, please think about the quality it provides comparing to the other Chinese restaurants. read more

Kudos to Lee Chen for filling the Chinese food gap in Aurora. It's nice to have a place that serves good Shanghai food that isn't a long drive away. I really enjoyed the food but I felt that there wasn't as much variety as I would've liked. My family ordered soup dumplings, pan fried dumplings, spicy beef noodle soup, and shanghai fried rice cakes. The portions were a little small for the price, but everything tasted really good. The spicy beef noodle soup wasn't really spicy, but still was delicious. It wasn't too busy when we went on a Sunday night, so the staff was very nice and attentive. The restaurant decor is nice and clean as well. I'd say the only downside is the steep prices and the lack of options, but I'm happy to have good XLB so close to home. read more

If it weren't for the high prices as other reviewers have also commented, I would be giving a 5/5 based on the excellent service and delicious food. This is a great place for large groups - we were 6 adults, 4 children and our waitress catered so well to everyone. I was really impressed with how fast everything came out and the taste and quality seemed comparable to what we are used to in Markham. The meal was $350 for our group, so $35 per person which isn't too bad except kids obviously don't eat that much. I really hope this place sticks around! Food is fine but is way too costly. Portion is small too. The Shanghainese rice cake we ordered, for the quality and portion we got, I would expect is less than $10 but is charged at $16. Steam veggie dumplings is fine. But totally ridiculous is that this place charge $3 for CHINESE tea. Is nothing more than a regular tea that you get at any CHINESE place. I would use the $3 to pay for gas driving to Richmond Hill, better food, bigger portion, cheaper price. This place is disappointing. read more

Decided to try this place as there's not much Shanghai food in the North. This place is spacious with a high end elegant decor, incorporated with some traditional Chinese water color pictures. We ordered the 2-3 ppl combo. Wonton soup, pan fried dumplings, black bean beef, mixed vegetables, rice, and sesame balls. The dishes were flavourful and cooked to perfection. Sizes of dishes are not bad except the rice. The rice is tiny. So you will need to order more rice or noodles to finish the dishes. We ordered some steam buns instead. I would have given it five star if the price was not that high. We paid more than $70 for two adult and a toddler. I understand they have locations in downtown which is appropriate for these kind of prices, but this is not DT. Service was great and attentive. They constantly check on our table to take away our finished dishes. Overall, its nice to see some quality Shanghai restaurant in the area. read more

I've never enjoyed fresher Chinese food anywhere. When something in life stands out, one takes immediate notice. The four of us stopped and stared at the beef and broccoli when it came to our table. In a word..... perfection. All the dishes were cooked perfectly and were so flavourful. The staff were friendly and attentive. The decor was divine. This used to be the old aurora Chinese restaurant and the new owners have knocked one our of the park. We will definitely be back and order take out. read more

Overall food was delicious and not greasy at all! The gentleman (server) was professional and courteous. The portion was fair, with no left-overs, hence we had to order two more dishes because some of us were "still hungry"..... and that means more $$$$&. Honestly, this place is very expensive for the portion you're getting.... and of course they had to charge us on tea... excuse my sarcasm but REALLY???? My wife jokingly told me to drink up the tea because it cost $$$. Would I come back again? Honestly, a big maybe for me and my family. This would not be a place where I would casually go on a weekly basis, compared to the likes of Congee Wong or Congee Queen..... Opened 3 days ago, I tried it out last night. DECOR: So nice! Modern and sleek but still had some complementary Asian accent pieces and artwork. SERVICE: totally impressed that everyone spoke perfect English. Service was attentive. You browse and order off a mini iPad. FOOD: Portions were small but food overall had good flavour. The soup filled dumpling - skin could have been better, was a bit gummy. Hot and sour noodle soup - kudos for the fresh noodles that was super long! Black pepper beef was so tender and had a nice kick. Sweet and sour fish was good. The pancakes were so crispy and savoury while it was nice and hot! PRICE: the downside is the prices. Prices are very high. Most entrees were $16+ even fried rice and fried noodles which you can find a lot cheaper in Richmond hill/Markham. read more

This place just opened this month. Everything is clean and well lit not to mention friendly staff. Food portions are not generous so you may be disappointed if thats what you value. Also the bowl of rice is very small in portion..one can easily have two. Aurora doesnt have too many decent chinese restaurants so hoping that this will stick around ! I'd say good food overall. read more

So, I'll start with my summary...amazing food, and great service and just a bit pricey. I would call it 4.5 stars. The service for us really was excellent. Attentive without being intrusive and somebody was always there to clear dirty plates away. So, we tried most of the dumplings and all were awesome. The xiao long bao soup dumplings were the star for sure, but the pan fried pork dumplings weren't far behind. The wonton soup was definitely fresh made from scratch...great broth and hand made pork wontons. They had brown rice available, which can be hard to get in similar restaurants and it was perfectly cooked. The beef with broccoli was also perfect...rice amount of sauce, tender beef and crisp veggies. Finish with the black sesame balls rolled in peanut. A perfect dessert. All in all, it's more than you'd pay at most Asian places like this, but I don't mind paying more when both the food and service are better. read more
