The customer service from the girl at the register today was awful. No greeting and when she finally came up to me she just stared and I had to say I'm ready to order. I played it safe and ordered an iced vanilla latte which was so bitter and watery. I sat outside and no one called my name when it was ready, I had to keep getting up to go check on it. I also ordered a peanut butter toast which was pretty good and the portions are nice. Had I been asked if it was for takeout or dine in I would've opted to dine in but no one asked? Overall unpleasant experience, everyone else seemed to be enjoying their time and getting great service. Made me wonder why I wasn't receiving the same treatment. The place is pretty... pretty dirty. Very dirty. We ordered a hot latte and watched the barista make it. She used a dirty rag to wipe the porta filter without rinsing in between each cup of espresso. Extremely dirty, we saw her repeat that multiple times with different customers. To describe the taste of the coffee, it tasted like coffee flavored water. Had never been to Milligram before. Went late this afternoon to meet a friend, which found me in a time a little too late for coffee and a little early for drinks (which they have). Even though it was a bit chilly, we sat outside. What a lovely ambience between the trees and Spanish style building. I settled on a loose leaf pot of tea, which was perfect during this chilly and breezy afternoon. The tables were clean (it appears they bring them in each day) and they had plenty of outdoor heaters. My friend got a rotating handle draft beer. While I didn't try the coffee, I know they use Common Room Roasters, which has a great taste. I will definitely come back as the setting here is great. Okay the matcha latte here is the best I've ever had!! I had it with macadamia milk (cool they have this, some cafes don't) and vanilla syrup. Was pricey but AMAZING. I do love this place, the coffee is amazing and food pretty good. It's also super aesthetic and a pretty cafe. Parking is also super easy. However, it's more a restaurant and not cafe? The restaurant outdoor space in the back quite charming and i was excited about trying the food for the first time. I ordered matcha latte which typically is served in a nice wide mug/cup, here is served in a small water cup, which was cold looking and unappetizing tasting... I had ordered an avocado toast with salad... while picking thru my salad, at the bottom, was a piece of dark hair, i mentioned to the waitress. She never apologize for the mishap, she took my plate came back with small salad as a replacement. I understand things happen, but not apologizing for serving hair with the food is a lack of customer service that is not acceptable.. The sandwiches are great with a small side salad. The dips - hummus and baba Hanoi sh - were so friggin good. They should be packaged and sold at Trader Joe's. The toasted bread was super delicious. I am a fan! I will be honest - I did not have high hopes for this place because I thought it would be another one of those instagram hyped spots that just looked aesthetic. Pleasantly surprised by how good the breakfast was. I got the Milligram breakfast which came with bacon, roasted tomatoes, sauteed mushrooms and egg over a toasted sourdough. I added avocado (+$3) and it was a good decision but a pricey one - probably wont do that again since it was just a tiny bit of avocado. I got a flat white to go with breakfast and it was delicious! Service was alright - it took some time for us to get seated mainly because they were understaffed the day after Christmas. The server was great and was very attentive once we were seated. Parking in the front is scarce but they do have a big parking lot in the back which is awesome. Definitely coming back if im in the Costa Mesa area! read more

Milligram is such a cute little coffee shop and kitchen! They have a decent amount of indoor and outdoor seating. The service was interesting but overall decent. We sat at a table outside and we're quickly promoted to order without time to look at the menu. Our food came out fast and was overall good! My friend asked for more cream cheese and the server said it was going to take time because the kitchen was backed up. She ordered the salmon bagel and was surprised because it wasn't open face like most are. I ordered the turmeric golden latte and the breakfast ciabatta. The latte was a little watered down but the garlic aoli on the sandwich was fantastic. One downside, there are no outlets or Wi-Fi so don't be prepared to do work there. I would try Milligram again but next time for lunch or dinner! read more

We went here for brunch to celebrate my friend getting married and the food was fantastic. 10/10 for food & aesthetic. However our server must have been having a bad day or something because he was unfortunately pretty rude the entire time. We had asked if it was possible to split the check before we ordered to make it easier for him if that was a possibility. All we received was sass and it was obvious that wasn't something he wanted to do so we kept it all together which was fine. When we had questions about the menu he was genuinely bothered. We respectfully asked for a drink that was forgotten after our meals were already finished and he replied with "I literally see them squeezing your orange juice right now." We were really sad to have such an unfortunate experience here. Again we loved the food and the ambiance but customer service needs to at the very least be respectful and polite. My friends and I have never had to speak to the manager as we usually at the very least have pleasant convos with anyone serving us but we did in deed speak to the manger in this case just to communicate so they could be aware for other customers that might have a similar experience but not feel comfortable saying anything. I would love to recognize the kind manager we were able to speak to who listened and was super validating and supportive. She even was gracious enough to give us a gift card and explain how what happened was not their mission as a restaurant. All in all, I wouldn't be opposed to coming by again and giving this spot a second chance. I stand by the fact that I think our server was just having a bad day. We still left a tip and we hope that everyone after us has a better experience. read more

I really wanted to like this place and came in with an open mind, but unfortunately, the experience was disappointing. We waited nearly an hour for our food, and from reading other reviews, it seems this isn't a rare occurrence. The staff acknowledged the delay by bringing us a cookie, which I appreciated--until I asked if it contained nuts and was told it didn't. I'm severely allergic to nuts, and when I broke it open, it was clearly filled with whole walnuts. Thankfully, I checked before taking a bite. When I pointed it out, the waitress said she'd "check," which was frustrating given the seriousness of food allergies. She later brought a chocolate croissant. When our food finally arrived, the staff seemed unsure of what they were serving. The dishes themselves were underwhelming. Honestly, I could've made something better at home in under 10 minutes. On top of that, there was no clear communication about needing to go to the counter to pay, and the waitress's attitude came off as dismissive rather than apologetic after the allergy incident. Mistakes happen, and I understand that, but food safety and customer communication are incredibly important--especially when it comes to allergies. Visited Milligram to grab some food, coffee, and tackle a few projects on my laptop. If you arrive early in the morning, finding an outdoor spot is a breeze. I opted for an iced vanilla latte, while my friend enjoyed a decaf coffee, which she found tasty. We spent about an hour or two working outside before ordering lunch. I chose the prosciutto pizza (though I wished there was a little more prosciutto and a little less arugula). My friend went for the breakfast sandwich and loved it! Overall I think this a great spot for food, drinks, and dining outside when the weather is nice. Even if you want to work from a coffee shop I would recommend this spot as well. Haven't tried Milligram since they moved from Common Room Roasters. New location is nice, abundant seating outdoors and plenty indoors too. Light and bright interior and good tables and bartop to work from. Staff was not overly friendly. Place missed a welcoming vibe. Ordered the chai latte + oat milk. Flavor was good, not sweet, which is my preference. Very well balanced with chai spices. However, I picked up my cup and it felt very light... took the lid off and literally the cup was barely 3/4 full. Really??? If I pay more than $6 for a drink, I expect my cup to be full. We visited this location today and had a very bad experience. We were a group of 5 and each ordered a variety of drinks and meals. Out of the 5 of us, four of us did not eat bacon (two of us have actual allergies to pork). Instead, we requested that bacon be taken off of the breakfast ciabattas and put on the side so that our friend (who did eat bacon) could have the pieces of bacon. When my fiancé received his breakfast ciabatta, it appeared that his had bacon in it. He has an allergy to pork and we informed the servers that the kitchen put bacon on his sandwich. They told us that the kitchen would remake the sandwich and apologized for their mistake. A few minutes later, they brought the exact same sandwich back to us, even forgetting to hide it better by leaving a small piece of the bacon still in the sandwich. If he didn't open the sandwich, he might've accidentally bit into it causing severe sickness. At this point, I informed the staff that the kitchen didn't remake the meal and instead tried to pretend that they did but did so very badly. I asked for it to actually be remade. So while we were all eating our meals, my fiance had to wait an additional 20 minutes with nothing but our appetizers to eat. We asked about the status of the meal, and the wait staff told us that they were confused that it wasn't out yet. At that point, we asked for the meal to be taken off of the check. Now generally, considering that after we had already waited 20 minutes for the second attempt at making the meal that they'd offer to bring him the sandwich anyway or do something aside from just taking the meal off the menu - but nothing was done or offered. I don't blame the servers because they were as confused as we were, but this was just ridiculous. Our friends had visited this restaurant in the past and told us that their experience wasn't the best their first time but attempted to retry with us today. While I thought the restaurant was beautiful and they created a great ambience, us 5 will not be returning. read more

Milligram Coffee has been on my bookmark list for a while now, so I was a little bummed when my experience here was less than stellar. I ordered a meal and beverage from Milligram Coffee via Doordash for a virtual team lunch. My order consisted of the Poached Chicken Ciabatta and an iced latte with oat milk and vanilla sweetener. The Poached Chicken Ciabatta came stacked with lettuce, avocado, tomato, bacon and garlic aioli ($17). I was expecting thick and juicy boiled chicken, but instead it was similar to thinly sliced deli meat. The latte was a bit watered down and didn't have much flavor ($6). This might be a personal preference, but I was also bothered that their beverages aren't delivered with a sealed top or sticker. I thought this was a typical practice in the restaurant industry by now for sanitary and safety purposes. I also think they could easily improve the customer's online ordering experience by adding descriptions to the cafe items. My uncultured self isn't knowledgeable between the difference of a piccolo, cortado, short mac and tall mac.. but I'd love to learn and try something new! This property just completed a major facelift and so happy Milligram moved in as the newest tenant. Love the way cafe life spills out onto the courtyard which wasn't being used much before. Sophisticated decor with lots of great plants and a great customer service experience. We ordered at the counter and then figured out that they do table service if you are drinking/dining in. Love that they offered macadamia milk as an option. We enjoyed one of their croissant sandwiches which was perfectly balanced and delicious. Do not miss out on their roasted fingerling potatoes with garlic aioli - ridiculously good! Had a great time visiting with my friend and got that vibe from all the other customers too.
