Is it a bit overrated? Yep. Overpriced? Probably, you don't get a whole lot for what you pay. But did the nail the cereal milk recipe? You know it. // Soft Serve (recommended) The cereal milk soft serve is sweet, salty, and has a strong aftertaste of the leftover milk in a bowl of cereal. They say it's made with Cornflakes, but in my opinion the taste is much more reminiscent of Frosted Flakes. I'd be lying if I said this cereal milk soft serve wasn't one of a kind; many ice cream spots have tried the cereal flavor, but haven't nailed it like this. The closest that I've seen is Milk & Cream Cereal Bar literally blending soft serve with actual cereal. While that's satisfying as hell, that process compromises on texture. This soft serve is actual ice cream with the flavor completely saturated in it, not just mixed or blended. By the way, when I say salty, I don't mean that in a cute way; I mean it's actually pretty salty. I don't mind this because I'm a sweet and salty fiend, but I have heard some others complaining about that. If it's your first time here, go for the cereal milk soft serve with Cornflake Crunchies. The Cornflake Crunchies are a must for texture and flavor contrast. All that said, if I had this regularly I would be bored of it. It would work well as a monthly visit, at max. There are other ice cream spots I can visit weekly, but this just isn't one of them. Competitors for the cereal milk soft serve I consider better (ones with a similar 'sweet and salty' vibe) are Supermoon's Croissant Butter soft serve and Made Nice's Milk & Honey. Something I'd consider of equal rank is Big Gay's Salty Pimp. // Baked Goods (recommended) You also should get the baked goods while you're here. Maybe split it with friends (or don't...). Get a slice of Crack Pie, which is a gooey, buttery filling on top of a crispy oat cookie crust. It's a real sweet and salty treat. They also do great cookies. I'd recommend the Compost cookie, which is a combination of a bunch of sweet and salty ingredients. Milk Bar seems to love their sweet and salty combos, and I dig it. // Other Things (TLDR- try the shakes) Okay, so what if you've had a the cereal milk soft serve and want to try something else, or you don't like ice cream (get out)? Go for the shakes. The Crunchy Cereal Shake is thick and has all the fantastic taste of their soft serve. I've heard great things about the Birthday Shake as well. // Milkquakes (TLDR- skip them) These are cups of their cereal milk or chocolate pretzel soft serve blended with some of their baked goods or treats (cookies, truffles, etc.). It's basically Milk Bar's take on a DQ Blizzard. I think you can safely skip these. If you're going to come here with the intention of getting soft serve ice cream blended with stuff, you should just get a much more satisfying Concrete from Shake Shack. // Al Fin Ultimately, there exist generally better (in terms of satisfaction and value) options for ice cream/shakes and better options for cookies. But there are some things here that simply cannot be replaced (Crack Pie, Compost Cookie, Cereal Milk base, etc.). So real reason to come here is to get that iconic, salty sweet, "Milk Bar taste" you can't quite get anywhere else. read more

I picked up a few cookies (the marshmallow one with the incredibly long name is my fave!) and birthday truffles. The birthday truffles are out of this world - they are decadent! Not sure how I had no idea that this had opened on Metropolitan Ave, so driving t passed it we pulled over to check it out and grabbed a few items to try. The Thanksgiving croissant - I almost have no words; it's brilliant and wonderful. The flavors are a perfect Thanksgiving rolled up into each bite. Absolutely delicious. The birthday cake balls are magnificent and the compost cookie is in a league all its own. I love the sweet and salty balance that it provides. Milk Bar is not your standard bakery so don't go in there expecting as much, but be open to trying what they have to offer because it's pretty amazing. read more

Had the chance to take a Bake the Book cooking class in this studio -- all in all a good experience. The $100 price tag per person was definitely high, but along with the actual baking experience, you do get to take home truffles and an enormous birthday cake that'd be worth at least $50 regularly. The cakes are pre-made to cut down on time, but the class essentially shows you how to put together different layers of the funfetti sheet cake with the cream cheese frosting, rainbow cake crumbs, etc. I wish we were given the chance to actually make the cake and the frosting, but do understand that it's more efficient and less costly this way. Besides this detail, it was a fun and easy process to follow and the instructors are really great. In fact, the number one rule was to "eat cake"; we were encouraged to eat as much of whatever we wanted and that certainly amplified the whole experience! The studio itself is well-lit and there are loads of people (including myself) that are busy photographing their cakes, each other, etc. They give you the cutest headbands and ribbons as well -- overall a great experience that was unlike any other cooking class I've taken. read more

Consensus was cookie was good but not a truffle and Crack pie was so-so. After watching Chefs Table and falling in love with the story of Christina Tosi and Milk, I came here to complete the experience! Unfortunately, the story of Milk was much better than the experience. I was disappointed in the size of the location-tiny, the lack of air conditioning-it's a hot summer so far, the sarcastically rude staff woman and with the food. Momofuku has a special place in the world of food especially when it's been talked about in all forms of media. I remember my first encounter with momofuku back in '09 at the noodle bar. I remember it being pleasant so I decided to take a chance with their milk and cereal spot. For $7 I expect to have a big cup. For $7 I expect it to really taste like milk or be milky. For $7 I expect my corn flakes to not fall off. Yet I didn't get what I paid for. The ice cream was quite tart and it tasted nothing like milk. The texture was semi icy. The toppings kept falling off and my cup was tiny. I didn't hate it but I didn't love it, it wasn't good enough to be worth the price tag. Everyone comes here for the cereal milk ice cream and takes 10 years to Gram it, but all in all, it's not even that special. On the bottom of your cone you get a surprise of the topping you had chosen to top your ice cream with.. a pleasant unexpected surprise which puts a smile on your face. The shop is small with barely any seating. There is a bench inside and two benches outside which my two friends and I utilized. We lucked out that the weather was nice enough on a November night for us to be able to sit outside and chat. The milk bar is located conveniently in a popular area populated by many indie bars, restaurants and shops. Not bad to fill your ice cream craving and then head over to a bar or restaurant.. Great for window shopping & people watching.. Williamsburg is like a hipster catwalk- you see a lot of interesting wardrobe & get ups! The service wasn't bad.. There were two woman behind the counter and they were helpful by answering questions etc. The shop was a bit busy but we didn't have to wait long to be served. This place is interesting. My brother was in the mood for a milkshake so I consulted Yelp and found Momofuku Milk Bar. A bit hard to find as there is no sign and the place itself is very small. We tried the pink lemonade shake. Very creamy and different. Tangy and sweet at the same time. Almost like a buttermilk flavor. I enjoyed it a little, but my brother didn't like it at all. We were in the car for about an hour after we bought it and still didn't finish it. Also, extremely overpriced. Everything in here seems to be overpriced. They also sell alcoholic shakes but you must remain in the store (which again is very small) while drinking it. Makes sense, as you cannot walk in public with a beverage but still seems odd to me because there's no good place inside to comfortably stay for a bit. I don't know how I feel about this spot. It's not bad enough to warrant a 2 star rating, so I'll leave it at 3 stars. Maybe I'll come again, maybe I won't. Eh, probably won't. read more

I have been wanting to come here for years! I've received a few cookies and thanksgiving croissant from here as a souvenir and I had to come here ever since, not to mention I freaking love David Chang. I got the cereal milk soft serve with cornflakes and it was delightful, not too sweet and a bit of salt to it. I personally like the corn cookie, and I got a chocolate chip cookie with I think toffee- it was OK. I bought 2 jugs of cereal milk to share with my family as well and it was good- but I can't think of other ways to use this milk except for drink it. I did buy the crack pie though and that was pretty amazing. Over all, I'd get the soft serve and crack pie again. Really small neighborhood shop but very charming nonetheless. I got their cereal milk soft serve with cereal crunch topping. Since it's summertime, it melted SO fast so I had to rush to a nearby place to grab a napkin. The cereal crunch is also on the bottom of the cup, not only in the top! Very yummy but filling. I got the birthday truffles to go, along with the compost cookie and cornflake cookie. The compost was delicious- you can really taste the butterscotch and hint of coffee inside. It's a treat choice if you're looking for something to satisfy a sweettooth. As soon as we walked in we weren't sure what to order, there wasn't much displayed in general, so we asked and we were recommended the frankenstein pie which is basically a combination of 4 different kinds of pies - $40 NOT worth it. I actually like the cereal milk a lot. Even though the store is extremely small, most of the time it's not that busy, so you can just sit around and chill. I think that it's super cute that they have a jar full of dog treats! One thing that I don't really like is the chocolate cereal milk shake. I didn't really taste the chocolate in it at all, and not to mention that it's quite pricey for what it's worth. It's a standard taste that you can get anywhere else - maybe for even a cheaper price. The workers here are extremely nice, there isn't much service going on, but you can tell that they are extremely friendly and chill. After enjoying awesome BBQ at Fette Sau, I took the short walk over to Milk Bar. A small store with some counter seating this Milk Bar is pretty much setup for grab and go. I decided on several items such as the famous Crack Pie, Compost cookie, Blueberry & Cream cookie, and Cornflake Chocolate Chip Marshmallow cookie. - The Crack pie was quality but considering it's size in proportion to it's cost at $5.50 per slice......well you can already see the jokes associated with the name "Crack" pie. I can safely say it was just about 10% larger in surface area than a normal credit card and just about the thickness of 1.5 Oreo cookies. The pie's flavor was so reminiscent of a very rich butterscotch (maybe a Werther's caramel too) candy. - Compost cookie was really good with (as the name suggests) a whole bunch of varied ingredients which all play well together creating a blend of sweet and savory flavors in addition to different textures like soft and crunchy. I hate to use the food cliche term but the cookie was quite "complex". There was sweet from the butterscotch and chocolate (though I tasted the chocolate way more), and salty from the potato chips and pretzels (pretzels were more noticeable). The coffee was also quite evident too. I also enjoyed the slight crunch and bite added by the oats, potato chips, and pretzels. Clearly my favorite of the three cookies, and really worthy of getting again. Blueberry & Cream cookie was quite tasty. I noticed the cream flavor coming on a bit more pronounced versus the milder blueberry flavor which led to semi-sweet cookie. Cookie texture was enjoyable with a slight chew to it. Overall this was a very solid cookie. I didn't much like the Cornflake Chocolate Chip Marshmallow cookie as it's very chewy texture was not pleasant. I liken it to a rice krispies treat where the marshmallow binder got way too gummy. This cookie probably needs to be slightly warmed to soften the marshmallow. Overall the taste was fine, but I didn't find the ingredient combination all that special. Solid offerings, but considering the fame of Milk Bar and the Momofuku brand, I would expect something really exceptional. read more

I dig it. My boo and I stumbled upon this place when we were heading out to cupcakeland. This place reminds me of s&s cheesecake in the bronx. The door is unassuming, you have to ring a bell to get in, but the door was cracked open. You come in, buy your stuff and leave. Nobody greeted us, which was fine because you have to buy $20 worth of stuff! That's not that hard considering how expensive the treats are. A whole crack pie is about 45 bucks! Credit card only, and they only sell wholesale. We noticed on the counter they had free samples, and it seemed like you could help yourself. We sampled the corn cookie which was buttery and sweet, and didn't cost us anything. We walked out without buying anything since you have to buy so much, but since they focus on making everything here, I can see why they wouldn't want to waste time selling cookies 1 piece at a time. I'm guessing everything here is fresher too. The location in Midtown serves their cookies in cellophane plastic, so who knows how long that stuff has been there. read more

So here are the facts: I was walking through SoHo last week and came across the Super Duper Market, full of all sorts of foodie pop-up shops. One of those being featured was the Milk Bar. They had a simple booth and a white table with several baskets of pre-wrapped cookies from their Williamsburg location. Cooooooooookies! There was a sign advertising 3 for $5. So I picked up 3. :-) #1: Confetti (sugar cookie/rainbow sprinkles). Tasted just like a funfetti cake. Yum! #2: Chocolate Chocolate (valrhona chocolate cookie/chocolate crumbs) I didn't taste the chocolate crumbs but it didn't matter. This treat was so dark and so rich and so bitter it was fantastic. Big glass of milk required with this one. #3: Compost (pretzels/potato chips/coffee/oats/butterscotch/chocolate chips). I didn't think I was going to like this one... mainly because I figured it was going to be like a oatmeal raisin cookie. But this one didn't have any raisins. The chocolate and butterscotch made it sweet. The pretzels and chips made it salty. Awesome combo. Favorite was probably the Chocolate Chocolate...but I wouldn't hesitate to buy any of them again. read more
