On our 12 hour drive to Maine, we were at the point in our stop that we needed some breakfast. This was our first time at Milford Diner, but not our last. Located in a cute town lies the Milford Diner. Parking is a lot on the medium side. We were greeted and seated immediately after walking in. Our waiter was on top of it, keeping the coffee topped off and the water filled. No complaints on our food. My husband was able to get his scrapple and that made him happy. I chose a classic scrambled eggs and bacon for my breakfast. No issues there. Overall we were happy with the entire meal. The menu is large. The staff the entire visit were amazing. What a great surprise the Milford Diner is. I expected a typical eastern US diner but when the short ribs special landed in front of me I was blown away at how tenderly the ribs were cooked, how perfectly tangy the ragu the ribs were braised in was. My sides were carrots and green beans that were seasoned and cooked just right. The mashed 'taters were really great. And all this for $20! I drove all the way from Monticello, New York, just to have scrapple! (OK, I also had to go to the Wells Fargo across the street... :). Great place, great diner vibe. Nothing fancy, just great people and good food. As I mentioned, I had the scrapple and eggs. Usually, my scrapple comes in the form of a "loaf", but this time, the scrapple was soft. This is the first time I've had "soft scrapple", but it was just as good as any scrapple I've ever had. The eggs were also done perfectly, and the home fries were delicious. The service was slow considering how few people were there for dinner on the weekend. Apparently, people are not coming here as much any longer and understood why as the meal progressed. The first thing we noticed is the prices have gone up a great deal and are higher than we pay in Jersey and New York. We thought we would give it another try, but that was a huge mistake and got worse as the meal progressed. The food is diner food, but not great for even diner food. The lettuce in the salads had brown edges and the hot-house tomatoes were hard as rocks and definitely not ripe, the dressing must have been jarred and a runny, thin blue cheese. The kids' tomato sauce was dreadful. The vegetables were swimming in water and everything was seriously over-salted, including the soup, which usually indicates the food is not fresh. The meat was tough. Even the burger was a mess. The ambience is lacking and was the same outlived atmosphere as in the past with FOX entertainment on, which seems foolish considering the mess the US is in right now according to the 67% of the population who did not vote for the current administration and a fast-growing number of 32% who voted for him getting angrier than usual about empty campaign promises and losing work. Again, the owner picked a fight with an unhappy customer who had complaints about what he and his wife were served -- and that's the end of that nonsense. This is a rural area with no services and they told us they're in the Greater New York Metropolitan Area. Sure they are. Not. It's like Alabama of the north. I've been around Milford for a couple years now but hadn't found time to be able to just stop at this lovely diner and enjoy everything it has to offer until this year ! My husband and I love it. We've always wanted to have a special diner for just us with a special booth and this place snagged our hearts the moment we ordered. Everything was perfect, the service and food and ambiance and community and energy was everything you'd want in a homey town diner and we've been back every weekend we have been able to stay in Milford since and we will continue each time we come to visit ! This place has been around for a long time but don't let the impressive age fool you, it is clean and well maintained inside! I went with a large group (10) and they sat us in the back room of the restaurant. There were lots of TVs with different channels all around the room. Our server was so sweet, knew the menu well, and was attentive to us. When I originally ordered the avocado toast she even clarified that it's not your typical avocado toast with mashed avocado, it's more like a sandwich with sliced avocado. I'm glad she clarified because while that might be what someone else wanted...it's not what I had in mind! The menu could be looked at as 1- "there's something for everyone" or 2-"I don't know where to look there are so many options". There were at least 8 pages (probably more) jam packed with options. I was pleasantly surprised to find that they offer gluten free bread and pasta for a small up charge! That triples what someone who is gluten free can typically enjoy! Milford Diner is located just off the main street in Milford, PA, which acts as a bit of a 'gateway' to the northern Poconos. Milford town itself is worth a stop for a few hours / 1 day as it's just over an hour from NYC. Lots of craft stores, antiques and other mountain town quirks to be found. The diner ambiance itself reminds me of childhood - firm plastic booths, placemats with local ads, and a dessert display case somehow populated with a very wide variety of desserts. My go to has included (1) grilled chicken platter, (2) fried chicken wrap and (3) Greek salad. My only recommendation - be ready to take some of your meal to go bc the portions are BIG! Very standard diner food, not bad if you're visiting the area-- but nothing special to talk about. Prices are reasonable, parking is relatively easy, staff is friendly, and service is quick. The food is presented simply, in large portions -- with a cooking style similar to what you'd get with good home cooking. The execution of each dish varies a bit, with some preparations being more memorable than others. For example, the french onion soup has a nice rich flavor, with tons of cheese. The NYC wrap has a well balanced mix of Pastrami, Corned Beef, Dijon Mustard, and Sauerkraut with a nice mix of textures and aroma. The banana pancakes have a good amount of walnuts and chocolate chip in them, providing a nice mix of flavors and textures with the fluffy pancakes. The fries have a nice crispness to them a good flavor. The house salad has a nice variety of greens, with peppers, cherry tomatoes, and cucumber -- which was all relatively fresh. The corned beef hash and cheese omelette looks a bit messy, but had a pleasant flavor -- with nicely grilled hash browns. On the other hand, some items were fairly plain and bland -- like the broiled trio with scallops, shrimp, and fish. This dish was a bit dry and did not make the best use of the seafood. The turkey club is huge, but I found the sandwich to be a bit dry overall and the preparation was a bit sloppy, making it difficult to eat. The grilled chicken sandwich similarly had meat that was a bit dry and could've used an extra element to tie the flavors together better. Overall, I like the large menu and prices. The restaurant itself is reasonably spacious with a nice bathroom as well -- but the food flavors and textures are nothing memorable. On 10/9/24 we experienced a issue which was way out of order. The owner was screaming at our waitress to get our order. That waitress came over 2x and asked us but we weren't ready. Not only her ,he causing a scene but was screaming at the cook in the kitchen with the door to the kitchen open. Everyone was in shock to see how he was abusing these workers. We took good care of our waitress, she was so sweet and smiled through this but we knew she was ready to cry. Shame on the owner for treating people like this. Now, we get dry, over or under cooked food, that's simply bland. Servers are more concerned with standing at the counter adding up their tips (true story) than checking in on tables to ask if they want a refill. Extremely disappointed. I prefer to use reviews to celebrate a business. A while ago I ordered their fried pickle spears and they were delicious. I got them again soon after and they, again, were very tasty. Today I ordered them online, with a chocolate milk shake, and immediately began my drive over. When I picked up my order, both the hot food and the milk shake were sitting on the counter. I was a bit disappointed, as they were both near room temperature. To which, he stated, "I don't know." I started to explain myself and he interrupted to say, "what sauce did you order?" I started again to answer, and he interrupted to say, "what sauce do you want?" When I began to ask him if he could tell me what my options were, again, he interrupted me. At this point, I told him that I didn't want the sauce, but wanted to ask why he was being so very rude.
