My siblings and I came to Oak & Reed for brunch after church. I was surprised to find a gem right in Middletown. This was my first visit and found them on Yelp. Upon arrival, the place were fairly packed for Sunday brunch. We were quickly seated though. The space was spacious and lot of rooms between tables. Has a nice open feel, with modern classic American feel. The kitchen is open so you can see all the preparations. Very quickly the waitress came over and took our drink order. She was able to answer our menu questions and made some recommendations. We decided on Chicken & Waffles, Fried Chicken sandwich and Eggs Benedict. The preparations took awhile as there was a big party before us. But when the food finally got to our table, wow. It was tasty... I highly recommend the chicken & waffle. It's one of the most popular brunch dishes. The chicken is moist, with a nice crisp, and the waffle is light & crispy. The Egg Benedict had the perfect poached eggs with running yolks. The hollandaise sauce was rich but more than I prefer. Everything was well seasoned. I am excited to go back to try their dinner menu! A jewel find in Middletown!

My first visit to Oak & Reed today & I must say , 100% satisfied! Reservations at 2.. young lady's at the podium very pleasant.. allowed me to wait for my party .. seated and service immediately! Julian was our waiter & not only handsome & a beautiful smile but pleasant!! We started with a mimosa! Delicious! Then we ordered the chicken & waffles. SCRUMPTIOUS!!!! large portions!! Then a delectable pressed coffee served with warm milk.! Never once felt pressured to leave! So impressed with Oak & Reed! Definitely will be back again!!

I honestly don't remember the name, but something I can only describe as shrimp McNuggets. De-li-cious!!!

I went with my date for the second time and completely forgot the menu changes all the time. I originally came for a specific dish but honestly the new choices were a pleasant surprise. Everything I tried was absolutely delicious. But let me talk about the shrimp. I don't usually like anything breaded yet these were on a whole different plane of existence. Imagine shrimp McNuggets reimagined by a chef who knows how to turn something simple into pure magic. They were crispy, tender, bursting with flavor, and so addictive that each bite felt almost otherworldly. Honestly it was one of those rare dishes that makes you close your eyes and savor the moment. Dare I say it was almost an orgasmic experience. I also had oysters in a rich and velvety broth and some sourdough bread still warm from the bakery next door. For my main I played it safe and went with a steak which ended up being incredible as well. Overall this was a 10 out of 10 dining experience. This place feels like something you would expect to stumble upon in NYC and not hidden away in a little town like Middletown. I am already planning my next visit and I will be dreaming about that shrimp until then.

Run! Unless you're someone who has no sense of taste, likes overly sweet and extremely unbalanced food, and doesn't mind significantly overpaying for value, RUN AWAY FROM THIS PLACE!!! Some might suggest it could have been a one off. I'll tell you that's impossible as this was a systemic failure across the board. The food was planned to be like it came, and that's sad as whomever planned this has no sense of taste it seems. Let's start with the alcohol first. This is a beer and wine only place, though they try to say sake as well (just another type of wine). Then why do they have mixed drinks referencing margarita and old fashioned? Truth is, they tried to mask wine into a mixed drink name. The reality of this... it fails from the start. The "margarita" I had tasted like a lime spritzer with no alcohol whatsoever. It had a nice dried lime wheel but it was a total waste of money. Taste was poor and far from a margarita in concept or delivery. Let's move on to the wings, chopped salad, and oysters. 0-3 on these items. First, the wings say scotch bonnet and jerked. The reality is no flavor, no taste, no spice and a weird salt hit before sweet finish. The sauce at the bottom of the bowl tastes like a bad bottled jerk sauce clumped in the bowl with fancy greens cut over the top. Cost to value - severely over valued. The chopped salad was even worse. They put all the innards of the lettuce in the bowl which bumped up the bitterness (and dropped cost) all while making the salad overly sweet with a weirdly salty chicken added. There was no balance to the flavors and sweet came through along with bitter ruffage. Menu price $18. Likely cost of items $5. Actual value $2-3. Yes, it was that bad. The oysters were actually decently good. Sweet finish but taste was on point. The problem is no horseradish it seems in the cocktail sauce and no Tabasco. I know not all like those things but both are regular items that go with oysters so not sure why neither were present if they sell 2 types as options. This item value was close to the cost they charged but really the only thing I could say that about. They also give a weird olive sourdough bread on the table. The cooked olive is a very odd flavor but even worse is the oil/vinegar mix. Too much balsamic vinegar in what we got and it is a sweet vinegar at that just further compounding the sweet issues all night long. All in all, the food was so bad, we had to leave and go to a Chili's near our hotel to actually eat. (We didn't order dinner at this place as we wanted to adjust based on how we were after the apps. Turns out, the place was so bad, we left). I have to say Chili's blows this place away on taste, value and quality. I've rarely ever said this about Chili's but on this night, it was miles ahead of Oak & Reed on flavor, value and cook of food. We were charged $89+ on the bill at this place, with what I'd judge as an effective value of well below $50. Also, the staff seem completely oblivious as the waitress asked us if we were ordering dinner and when I said no, she said she sees we got a lot of food (we had not). She also said she hoped she'd see us again, to which I said she would not. She clearly wasn't listening or didn't care as she just walked away to my comment. The ambiance would prob score a 4 on its own. The service (Erika was our waitress), a high 2 or low 3 at best. The food... too bad I can't give a negative 5!!! Heck, this place does not deserve even a 1 star with what we had due to the food. As I started with the review, RUN!!!!

We were staying in Monticello and decided to check out Oak and Reed for dinner. It's located in a cute little town. The interior is spacious and inviting. The starter bread is so good and fresh baked! We ordered the New England Fish Chowder and Korean Fried Broccoli as appetizers and the Buttermilk Fried Chicken. Everything was so good! I especially loved the New England Fish Chowder and Buttermilk Fried Chicken. The Buttermilk Fried Chicken portion is huge. Can easily be shared! They don't serve hard liquor but I tried one of their fermented agave cocktails and it was yummy. Our server was so sweet and attentive. Definitely recommend visiting.

Our waitress "Ms Middletown" added this little sign to our table!

Wow what a treat! I called the night before to make a reservation and when we arrived we got there before the start of the rush dinner crowd! I started off with the shrimp cocktail as an appetizer and the filet mignon as a main. Everything came out superb, the food was amazing and our service was excellent! Nicole our waitress was outstanding and made sure we had everything we needed! She remembered us from last time and added a nice welcoming sign to our table! Cameron our bus boy was so personable and made sure all our food to go was wrapped up and ready to go! So convenient to go have a great meal and get waited on like we own the place!!

Brunch Bliss at Oak & Reed - Eggs Benedict, Cinnamon Roll French Toast & Steak and Eggs Done Right! Stopped in right at opening last Saturday for brunch and left completely impressed -- and very full. Here's what we tried: -Eggs Benedict: Absolute perfection. The hollandaise was silky and rich without being heavy, and the poached eggs were textbook -- runny yolk, tender whites. Served on a toasted English muffin with a thick-cut slice of ham that held up beautifully under all that buttery sauce. Bonus points for the crispy potato croquette on the side -- golden, crunchy, and so satisfying. -Cinnamon Roll French Toast: Easily one of the most indulgent (and worth it) things I've eaten in a while. Thick slices of soft bread coated in cinnamon sugar, topped with a vanilla-cinnamon glaze -- it's basically dessert disguised as breakfast, and I am here for it. -Steak and Eggs: A hearty, savory plate. The steak was cooked to order (medium to medium rare for me) and incredibly tender. It came with fried eggs on a bed of grilled tomatoes, onions, and potatoes that were actually crispy -- which is rare and much appreciated. It's the kind of plate that keeps you full straight through to dinner. -Our host, William, was warm and welcoming from the moment we arrived. Our server Laura was attentive throughout the meal without being overbearing, and the atmosphere struck that perfect balance between modern and cozy. You can really tell the kitchen takes pride in every dish. If you're anywhere near Middletown and haven't done brunch here yet -- go. Go now.

Our lovely waitress did her best with a smile to assist, but looked like she was the only one attending to most of the tables. Water service was 20 minutes after we arrived. She tried her best to come back for our orders but that took a while again. Food took some time as well since there was a big group in several tables. For dessert, we ordered a scoop of ice cream and that took more than 7 minutes to come out when there were only 4-6 patrons in the dining room. If we ever come back, it would be at the bar, for drinks. Food and service at the dining section, not recommended anymore.
