Stopped here with some of my car group on our way back to the DC area from Ticonderoga NY. One of our members said she wouldn't have come to a place like this in the 1970s, and our waiter confirmed that in the 'early' days when the place got started there were some violent incidents. The place has kept the 'dive' vibe alive, but it's quite safe to visit now. And the food is quite good! One buddy (who always gets a reuben) tried the ribeye sandwich and was very impressed - though we called it the reubeye. I had the hard pressed Cuban and it was wonderful. And the fried pickles are cut lengthwise, so you get a better experience than slices - they're called 'frickles'. Definitely worth a visit when you're in the area. read more

Imagine if church pews were replaced by old 45s, nice whiskey, more than nice gins, and a giant plate of tacos. I was here for the fish tacos and they did not disappoint. The fish is similar/the same as the ones used for the fish and chips, crispy with just a touch of chipotle aioli. Slaw on the side. I had the craft non-alcoholic arnold palmer. Needed a good meal after my son ran the spartan race at Bethel Woods. This was an easy to find, close to the highway hole-in-the-wall spot and it was so good! The reviews were great so we gave it try and we enjoyed everything we had. I wish they were closer to us because this would be a staple if we were locals. I got the spicy burger with the the spicy fries and two beers. The beers were awesome. The fries were ok, but the seasoning wasn't really spicy. The burger was also good, but I wanted more of a spicy sauce on it. I'd try a different burger or the wings next time. Stopped in to this unassuming craft beer bar on a whim and ended up finding a hidden gem! My wife and I were in town for the night and needed something to eat. Not being a fan of the other places just off the highway we ventured a little further into town. The beers were cold and good, the service was friendly and attentive and the food was amazing. I'm still thinking about the old bay wings and the Unc rib eye sandwich I had. My wife enjoyed her grilled chicken sandwich as well. A most mellow place. We had some draft beer and some canned Alchemist beer. I had fish tacos that were tasty and spicy. My other half had enjoyed her crab cake sandwich. Prices were reasonable. Hidden gem! Driving past, you wouldn't even know that something was amazing is located in this little strip mall. The bartender greeted us right away when we came in and got us started on drinks right away (we had been traveling all day and this was so, SO appreciated). Just one crab cake. What arrived at our table was a glorious crab ball that I'd eat every day for the rest of my life if I could. It was huge, crispy, tasty. The side salad that came with it was a perfect complement and I left feeling comfortable - not super full and not wishing I had gotten TWO crab cakes instead. I remember one day, I burned my hand so badly prior to grabbing dinner at Scotch town and one of the bartenders brought me a towel with ice to give me some relief, something I didn't even ask for but they picked up on. Everyone is just amazing!!! In terms of food, I usually love getting the 5 Alarm burger, fish tacos, pork tacos, and nachos which are all a hit. The salmon is also cooked to perfection. My go to drinks are spicy Margarita or a passion fruit margarita which are delicious! You can't go wrong with anything on their menu. read more

Arrived upon opening, walked in and the chairs were still on the bar. How awkward. I had brought my friend here for a birthday beer, thank goodness an ex-worker walked in and served us a beer. The bartender didn't show up until 15 min after opening. The guy in the kitchen had to remove the bar stools while we stood there waiting. We left and went elsewhere. I got to try everything but the burger. The crab cake was plentiful and looked like a crab cake burger. It was crunchy and had a large crab patty! The fish tacos were perfectly fried flakey and flavorful. Topped with avocado and chipotle mayo, this was a great combination. The pulled pork taco was juicy and so savory. It came with pork gravy sauce. These were my favorite! The bartender was so short, she was also waiting and bussing the tables. She was so sweet! Another small joy we found while traveling in area for a lacrosse event. While siutated in a small strip mall setting, the Scotchtown was a terrific find. The atmosphere was upbeat and entertaining. One of the best bar staff I have encoutnered in a while. Seating was tight especially as it got busy. Good for chatting with the local groups but maybe not so much for those looking to spread out and relax at thier busy time. But hey its a solid bar with solid food. This is one of those 'hole-in-the-wall' places you hear locals talk about when they want some place away from chain restaurants or generically bland food. It's a little bar tucked into the end of a small strip of stores on the outside of Middletown, and unless you look for it or know it's there, you'd never guess how amazing the food is. Fans of poutine -rejoice! This place has the best poutine we've had outside of Canada. The short rib version is to die for. Even when I was stuffed and couldn't eat another bite, all I wanted to do was keep eating this amazing dish. Their burgers are no slouches, either. Food takes a little longer to arrive, but that's because it's all cooked AFTER you order. It's not like big places that pre-make most of their food and then heat it up. Burgers are still sizzling and fries are hot and perfectly crispy just like they should be. Bar staff are always making jokes and chatting with patrons, and the servers are fantastic. Plenty of local options to choose from on the beer list, and the bartender has the perfect recommendations if you aren't sure which to pick. He even lets you sample one or two before committing. No pretentious atmosphere here, just good food, a relaxed vibe, and out of this world food. I want to rave to everyone about this place, but then again, I don't want more people to discover this little gem and let the secret out. read more

No photos cuz we were hungry but all of it was bomb! - fried cheese curds - Buffalo chicken rangoons - wings (we did teriyaki and garlic parm) - onion rings The bartender was lovely. We came to Upstate New York for my mother-in-law's 80th birthday this past weekend and then on Monday night went out for dinner here, a party of six. Two of our party were women in their 80's and found it difficult to get into the high barroom style of seating and tables. However, the food here was amazing and our server was joyful and attentive, lots of fun. I had the crab cake with salad greens and the vegetable pot sticker dumplings. Our elder family members each ordered the steak and declared it delicious. I had a couple of beers that were on tap and found them very enjoyable. We will definitely come back, probably to try at least one of the interesting looking cocktails available and, of course, more items from the menu. I took off one star just because I'd like to see some standard tables and chairs in there, for the older crowd. Some of us aren't spring chickens anymore! read more
