It's kind of a dive bar, which isn't unexpected as it's not in the best part of Middletown; however, it's actually got pretty good food. The server was very nice, the guys hanging at the bar left a little to be desired lol but it is what it is. I got the French Onion soup, very tasty and the buffalo wings, they were large not tiny like some places and very juicy. My sister got a burger and said it was good and the fries were good not like those that stick together, the good kind. We went early evening on a Monday so it wasn't busy but I'm sure when they do events it probably gets packed as the dining area is small. read more

Google for some reason won't let me post this; it was written with that site in mind If you're going here to revel in the antics of Samantha and the other cute barmaids, read no further; it seems like you'll have a good time. If you're coming here to eat, though, read on. I was part of a 16-set whose reservations were made *three* days earlier for 11 a.m., when the Switch opens for brunch on Saturday mornings. About 14 of us showed up. When we entered, we were told we had the back space all to ourselves ... only to find the tables had not been arranged for such a large group. We helped the staff, which is to say one of the attractive young women probably among those mentioned by name in many of the other reviews, put them together--by which it would be more accurate to say we did it for her. Said waitress was the *only* person working the *entire* front ... there were a few other people near the bar. And none of the cute barmaids. This young woman had to do *all* the waitservice *and* all the bartending. There is absolutely no excuse for letting this much service fall on the head of a single staffer with this much advance notice. They had *three days' notice* that they'd have a big table at Saturday's open. That's more than enough time to get someone else to come to work. That they did not suggests that someone was too busy writing emoji-laden one-word responses to Google Reviews to let this be brought to his attention, or that it was and he didn't care because he needs a little help making this month's boat payment. If this had been the only problem, I'd have left a generally favorable review. But instead, it got worse. A friend in the group who has plenty of restaurant experience themselves and noticed these same deficiencies ordered some iced tea with his breakfast--only to be told there was none available. Uh, OK ... these things happen. Immediately afterwards, I ordered coffee. A few minutes later our cute barmaid returned, and said with some evident surprise that ... there wasn't any. Really? On a Saturday morning when you advertise and serve an extensive brunch menu, you have somehow forgotten to restock something so basic? This is Restaurant 101. As my omelet was being prepared (it was good ... the food is the only thing that got a star here), the same cute barmaid came bouncing out to inform me that ... there was no whole wheat bread to toast for the side I had ordered. Would white be OK? Yes. But I was beginning to feel like the Switch's business model was the cheese shop in the Monty Python sketch, and did something I would never have imagined myself doing before: announced loudly that that would mean another star off the Google Review. I guess Mr. Owner was too busy keeping up on *his* strategy of responding to every single review in order to intimidate people from posting what might be more generally bad experiences from which lessons might be learned to actually check his stocks, much less order more (However, maybe there's an upside to this ... if people want to shoot each other in the future, there won't be any bullets available). And while this experience was not the fault of the cute barmaid, who I should say I still tipped (albeit modestly), since she was indeed polite and charming and (importantly) apologetic the whole time, especially again given that she had to do all the front-end work by herself, she did make one significant error my restaurant-veteran friend noticed. Another of our number had his drink delivered without the lemon wedge that was supposed to be in it. She (yet again) apologized, and came back with several lemon wedges to choose from ... held in *her bare hands* when they should have been in a bowl or on a plate. This is an actionable health-code violation, and the only reason I'm reporting it here rather than to Goshen is that, for all the aforementioned reasons, I don't want her to get into trouble and get fired. When I told my wife about all this, she said that a) she would have stormed out and gone to Dunkin' Donuts (which, for her, is saying something) when the coffee wasn't available and b) $14 for even a well-made omelet was way too much given this display of incompetence. So, Mr. Owner, if this the "trying our best" you bragged about in your response to one of your other dissatisfied customers (and FWIW it seems like those reviews have become more common in the last year or so), you are falling far short. As Yoda told Luke, "do, or do not ... there is no try". Maybe you should consider hiring someone to actually run the house and just limit yourself to being the social-media manager you have clearly always wanted to be. The Switch Inn? It should be Asleep at the Switch Inn! read more

First time order and last! Food was AWFUL! Cheesesteak had some type of chopmeat texture, there was no cheese or onions, fries w/cheese and gravy - no gravy and some type of yellowish cheese & last but not least the crispy wings - NOT CRISPY but CHEWY! This food doesn't deserve a star. I will never order from here again. I was told it was under new management and the food was good. If this is good I would hate to see what they considered bad. STAY AWAY - SAVE YOUR STOMACH!! The response from Josette at Switch Inn tells how bad things are as they got pretty defensive with their comments. I don't file false reviews!! read more

What I like most about this place is that it could either be a great midnight shots place to get twisted or a nice daytime watch the game and chat with friends while eating place. The food is surprisingly really good, especially the fried Oreos and the lemon pepper wings. The bartenders so far have all been very nice and accommodating. I really like the outdoor seating too. read more

Absolutely unexpected gem in this establishment! We decided to do brunch in this historic building, and found a most inviting, cozy, fun place to have bottomless mimosas, and a PANCAKE BOARD! Yes, you read that correctly...a charcuterie board. Of PANCAKES. It has eggs, pancakes, sausage, bacon and bananas with an adorable little jar of orange marmalade! Oh. My. God. There's also a jukebox that you can choose songs from with the help of other patrons and if you're lucky enough, Mackayla will be behind the bar and your brunch will be that much brighter! It doesn't seem like a place that would do such a fabulous brunch but Holy Hannah get yourself over there and order that board! read more

Food service and prices were all great. Small menu, but that isn't a bad thing. Ask about specials. We will be back

We are new to the area and decided to visit this bar for a date night. It's open late. The karaoke seemed like fun and the food was surprisingly good, especially for a bar. It was a great atmosphere. The service was great. I look forward to coming back. read more

The Switch Inn - Deep-Fried Oreos - Bars Near Me - Middletown, New York

I've been on a dive bar kick! Trying food at these fine establishments. I had the burger added cheese, mush and bacon. Definitely worth the stop and the $5 burger special was as a pleasant surprise. Stopped in around lunch the bar was scarcely populated, the food was quick but not rushed. Would recommend to a few friends. read more

Bad atmosphere, dirty tables, ratchet teenage acting bartenders. I would save my hard earned money and spend it on a real place not this dingy hole in a wall with owners and workers who feel and act like they're doing customers a favor. Don't believe me? Just look at the replies people get when they give their true and honest PERSONAL experience on this business. Some drunk guy was bothering my group and when I mentioned it to the bartender he said we were making problems. Probably because the usual customers couldn't sell weed and drugs in the patio like all of Middletown knows. Sad. Wish I could do half a star, a business like this makes the town look bad. read more

This place had great reviews, so I decided to check it out. We walked in and there were two white girls behind the counter and a white boy sitting at the bar. Once my fiance and I walked in, the place grew silent. The two girls behind the counter said something amongst themselves and snickered. I immediately got the sense that "my kind" was not appreciated there. The atmosphere felt like Alabama during the 1960s. Sensing the hostility, I told my fiance we were leaving. If you are Black/Latino, Buyer Beware. There are other restaurants in Middletown that are far more welcoming and inclusive. To the girls behind the counter and management, please do better. Or, not. read more

8/23/2020 I ordered the Philly cheese steak, mild buffalo wings, cajun wings, boneless mild wings, fried pickles, and fried oreos for the family. The Philly cheese steak was full of steak and cheese, plus it tasted great. By far the best Philly cheese steak I've tasted in New York!! The mild and cajun wings with bone were cooked perfect and juicy. The boneless wings were just a little over cooked but I ordered them extra crispy. The fried oreos were a great desert too. They were warm and chocolaty. I highly recommend the Switch Inn for their food. They are a hidden gem! I have a new goto place to order food and the price isn't bad. I'll have to stop in and try their drinks one day!! Compliments to the cook!! read more

Amazing good food. Great place to go as a group or a date. Fast service and high cleanliness. My new favorite place

my husband and I came up here for a wedding and found this bar in Google and it was 5 minutes from our hotel and thought why not. Jessie and Sam were the bartenders tonight and they were both amazing! We we're greeted the second we got to the bar and asked if we wanted a food menu. First of all, the wings were incredible!! Delicious and a great price! Second of all, the bar was PACKED and the bartenders were professional and attentive to every customer. Im so glad we decided to come to this bar and I would absolutely come again! read more

This is the quintessential dive, townie bar. I love it. The parking lot is pretty much a free for all. If you fit there you've just found your spot. There is more parking in the back though. When you first walk in you are met with neon beer signs and dim lights. The last time I went there was a couple of beer ladies from Coors giving out free beers. I drank for free (helped I knew one). They have food. My friend ordered fried pickles which I don't like but she enjoyed them greatly. Pool tables around back. They have a digital juke box like most places have nowadays. Outdoor seating is also clutch when warm weather comes around. read more

Best Onion Rings I have ever had !!! The boom boom sauce made them even better. Friendly waitresses/bartenders. Nice atmosphere.

Ok let me be the first to say I normally hate dive bars. This bar may at first seem like standard fair dive bar with one major exception. The food is off the hook. The menu while not vast is superbly prepared and done with great skill and attention to detail. I had the chili and it is in my top five of all time. The boneless wings are not only tasty and juicy but have a great texture and mouthfeel. All in all the menu rocks as does the staff. I proudly hang my hat there these days. read more

ive come here a few times & always with my friend who is very white passing. last night i decided to go with me & another friend. I am black & she's hispanic. The vibe was instantly disgusting. There was a heavyset white lady, I asked her to wipe down a table & she replied, "you have got to give me a minute im here by myself" & i attempted to just ask for a rag to do it myself because I understand how those shifts can be ... she instantly walked away rolling her eyes. I sat there for 30 minutes & she walked by us a whole bunch of times , but the final straw was when she took a new order while we were waiting. we left ended up going to jzs which already did last call & we missed it because we were busy being ignored. My friend & I literally had a stressful week and just wanted to unwind , so we sucked it up & sat in the front of the bartender when we came back. She side eyed us .... then she starts playing a game w the customers giving them 3 seconds to order & none of them knew what they wanted. my friend politely said, "hey can we order ?" in which she replied with ATTITUDE "you need to give me a second. i have to serve alll these people" my friend said nothing and looked at me and I looked at her. Then the bartender proceeds to ask if there was a problem to my friend , which i chimed in and asked if we said anything ? We were then kicked out .. HONESTLY.. if youre black/hispanic DO NOT COME HERE unless you have friends who are not POC you will never receive good service here. it feels as if youre an outcast & were still in the 1950's which sucks bc its 2022. Id recommended whispers if anything $5 drinks & the bartender is so sweet & funny read more
