Okay Mikuni has absolutely the best sushi in town. And the barbecue tuna appetizer is fantastic. In fact you can get a larger order and have it as an entree. I have never once been disappointed with the food here. We frequently doing online order and it's always ready at the time it's supposed to be. They also have a large catering menu. Sometimes we will order a couple of the platters for family gatherings. The restaurant is always clean. It can be noisy inside but the patio is quite nice. It is also a dog friendly place, as long as you don't mind your dog being outside the gate. (Some people don't like that.) If it's your birthday, remember to spend the Big Wheel by the door! You might get a Mikuni shot glass. Or a ginormous bag of rice. I'm saving the best for last. They have good beer. As in... an IPA... Good beer. What is my favorite Japanese restaurants of all time hands-down and the only problem I have with them is that they do not have a location here and Vacaville. However the food is absolutely amazing. Mikuni is one of my go to restaurant for sushi and fresh fish. I have been coming to this location and the one in Sacramento for a long time due to their consistent quality in food and service. One of my favorite rolls is the DMC roll. It is super delicious and it has lobster in it! Who doesn't love lobster am I right? Also try the pepper fin if you're into raw fish. Mikuni is a favorite eating spot. I have never had a meal that I didn't like. If you are a sushi, a Bento Box, or just love Japanese food all around, you won't be disappointed! I always go during off hours or for early dinner since it's a very popular place and you can get stuck in a very long wait. They don't do reservations so timing is everything, especially on popular dining out nights. But, definitely worth the wait!!! read more

Food was alright. i got the chicken teriyaki, which barely had any sauce on it. My husband had the chicken katsu which was amazing. We also got an order of sushi which was amazing. We went there mainly to celebrate my husbands 24th birthday. I asked the waiter if they sing happy birthday and offer a candle to blow out, they said no, and that we would have to purchase a dessert. I had no problem with this, just wish the waiter was nicer about it. Ended up singing him happy birthday myself, so if you plan to come here for a birthday, just know they don't sing happy birthday to you and don't offer a candle to blow out. read more

I have been here twice now, both times were really positive experiences. It is definitely one of the nicer upscale restaurants in Davis. They have a covered outdoor area with a fireplace as well as indoor bar and table seating. One thing I noticed when sitting inside is that there are two large tv's on the walls which didn't seem to fit the intimate setting. The sushi here is fresh and tasty, I've had the cooked and sashimi rolls and can vouch for both of them. My boyfriend and I were not fans of the cheesecake dessert, however. the puff pastry crust seemed to be flavored like tempura which was maybe an issue with its preparation. read more

I've been here a few times now because my brother goes to Davis. This is my family's go to place for Japanese place because we always enjoy eating here. It can get crowded sometimes, but it's definitely worth trying. The workers here are really nice and always make you feel welcome. The service is pretty good, but here's a tip: sitting outside = slower service. Today my family and I sat outside and we were never able to find our waitress when we needed to order more or ask for more drinks. Don't get me wrong, our waitress was super nice! It was just inconvenient having to wait so long for things like water and tea. I've found that sitting inside is more convenient in terms of getting served faster. (But if it's crowded you kinda just have to sit wherever is available.) read more

It's no secret. I'm a big fan of the Mikuni chain. I've been to most of their other locations but this is the first time visiting the Davis location. We were here to celebrate two birthdays. We didn't make reservations but got there 30 minutes after they opened on a Saturday and it was packed already. It didn't take long to get our seats and our server was very attentive and brought out our drinks, apps, and entrees in a timely fashion. Puff daddy is still one of our faves, and we also ordered staples such as wakame and cucumber salads, miso soup, and calamari. I loved my pepperfin (ordered off the gluten free menu) and my hubby loved the BMW roll. One of his staples is the Japanese Mafia as well. Our desserts were complimentary for our birthdays (join the Koki club for these type of rewards) and we ordered the cheesecake eggrolls. I originally wanted the chocolate lava cake but they were out so I got the triple chocolate mousse instead. This ended up being a blessing in disguise because the mousse was so good! Mikuni's is one of my "go to" picks for sushi night out with friends. Oyster shooters are a must to start off the night. Hot sake to follow with a good assortment of draft beer. There's a great selection of sashimi, nigiri and assorted rolls, among many non fish items for them weirdos that don't like fish x-D, plenty of options for just about any palate. I myself have tried many of the sashimi options as well as the rolls and all were great but my personal favorite would have to be the Train Wreck Roll. Service has always been prompt and attentive and the ambiance bright and lively. It can be a bit pricey, I wouldn't say it's an every night place, but if you're looking for a good sushi spot to visit here and there, Mikuni's has you covered. read more

I will not certify Mikuni's as authentic Japanese, but this Davis institution is regardless my favorite sushi spot in the area. Since the recent move into a slightly bigger space (but still in the same building), they have much more seating and the wait times have been halved. Still, during the peak times some wait is to be expected, but nothing like before when "hour to hour & 1/2" would be common. Good service is pretty much a standard at Mikuni's and I don't remember any of the staff being anything but friendly and super helpful with any questions we had. And even if the menu does a pretty good job at explaining what a particular dish is, sometime to the uninitiated it might be overwhelming. Their happy hour menu is a reason worth coming all in itself, but unfortunately only available 4:30-6 PM Monday-Friday. Too bad, because with all the TVs, this wouldn't a bad spot to catch a game and grab a few beers, edamame, and tempura. My all time two menu items here are freaky edamame appetizer and 9-1-1 (deluxe) roll. There is always something new to discover, but lately I've been sticking to these two-tried and tested favorites! So I'll start off when we arrived to the entrance of the restaurant... The staff was very welcoming and the wait time was very decent in my opinion, (midday weekday time might I add). We sat inside and had a very lovely waitress named Courtney. I am always asking my servers for their input and hers was so on point with what I was wanting. She gave me great info on the items and was very patient with our many questions. On to the food. AMAZING The mackerel and yellowtail sashimi was delicious, the edamame had a special seasoning that added a spicy yet savory flavor. The rolls... wow. My favorite was the Train Wreck Roll I mean I should have gotten two j/s. We had four rolls in total #noshame and they all had different flavors that were so tasty! We decided for dessert we had zenga and lava cake. The zenga had a buttery just the right amount of sweet and crunchy with drizzle of raspberry syrup on the plate . The lava cake was rich, moist and just warm enough to make close my eyes a little and say mmmmm We had beer and hot sake for drinks, nice addition to the entire meal and very tasty as well. I only write reviews on places that are worthy of praise and I will say this restaurant gets stars from me! Mikuni's is a great restaurant that offers some of the best sushi and Japanese food in Davis. Some of the best food options they have range from their chicken teriyaki meals, their happy hour dishes including the Zig-Zag Shrimp hand rolls, Sea Steak, the Truffle Sashimi, and much more! Best Sushi Rolls: DMC Roll (Hearty Lobster Roll - So good!), 49er Jack Roll (Named after my favorite football team, plus has a great sauce that adds to the deliciousness of the shrimp roll). And the Jerry Roll: Twice the Shrimp- twice the fulfillment)! Service is usually good depending on how packed the restaurant is - would highly recommend coming between 2pm-4pm for Happy Hour dishes/deals, but 5pm and beyond, it becomes a packed house. This was the poppin' place tonight at Davis. We waited about 30 minutes to get a table for three. We enjoyed the Freakin' Edamame which was seasoned & a bit spicy. We had raw oysters, chicken karaage, sashimi & 2 specialty rolls. All were very tasty, fresh & delicious. I've been to a couple of restaurants in Davis since my son goes to school here, but this is one Is one of the fancier eateries. Customer service was great! Highly recommend you give this a try. Location is okay, it's gets too busy in the parking lot and it's limited..... typical Aggie town.... bottom line parking isn't very good. As for the food, it was really good! Also, it's a pretty busy place in Davis and they have multiple sushi restaurants but I think Mikuni may top all of them! Hands down my favorite roll was the DMC roll! It has fried lobster along with crab mix, avocado, sauce, torched, and tempura bits! One of the best rolls I've ever had! Every bite had crunch, flavor, the tuna was so soft yet so flavorful, and the torched taste was extra good! We also had the incredible roll and it was good but not incredible like the DMC! The incredible roll had spicy tuna, Panko shrimp, tuna, white tuna, avocado, sauce, torched, masago and onion! Lastly, we ordered the Musolino pasta which is udon noodles sautéed with olive oil and garlic, jumbo prawns, asparagus, mushrooms and onions!
