Really good BBQ here, super tender. I wouldn't say it's the best I've ever had, but it's pretty dang good. The brisket, pulled pork and ribs were all solid. Baked beans were a little sweet for my taste, but still good. Coleslaw is also sweet, but it's flavorful. Really enjoyed the jalapeño cornbread; again it's slightly sweet but also has the jalapeño spice. They have three BBQ sauces available - sweet, spicy and Carolina mustard based. I found the spicy to be my favorite. It's a food truck so there's no indoor seating but they do have some covered picnic tables (the breeze helps but keep the temperature in mind when visiting). With all the food being ready ahead of time, it doesn't take long to get your food. The lady taking orders at the food truck window was very pleasant and delivers your food to the table if you're eating there. Getting a plate or two to take home is also a popular option. Definitely give them a try if you're passing by and like BBQ. read more

I don't usually do reviews on delivery orders. That's because most of the time the food you have delivered is subpar and just not as good as a visit to the establishment. However, every now and again you come across one it is so good. You have to let everyone know. The sausage was flavorful, the brisket was tender and juicy, and the chicken was smoked to perfection. The green beans and coleslaw were both nice additions, but they were beat out by the jalapeño cornbread.. It was moist, sweet, but just a hint of spice to live in it up. I enjoyed every last bite and was left wanting more. I will have to stop in the next time I am through and try some more options off their menu. When I head down to the Florida Keys, I'm usually laser-focused on seafood, but Mike's BBQ 101 is so ridiculously good it's worth a detour mission to Key Largo just for lunch. Easily some of the best barbecue I've ever had, and I've aggressively researched this topic. Mike himself popped out to say hello and even gave me a behind-the-scenes tour of the smoker. The man talks about meat with the intensity of a TED Talk, and you can taste the obsession in every bite. Seating is outdoor picnic tables, so you'll sweat like a rack of ribs in July, and the bathroom feels about three zip codes away. But who cares? That's just your body's way of making room for more brisket. Don't be like me and cruise past this place for years. So this is a food truck (with plenty of picnic tables to sit at) southbound in Key Largo! The ladies taking the order were very nice and welcoming. The owner (I assume) also came out while we were eating to make sure everything was ok. So, about the food. We had the brisket sandwich, Cole slaw, and the potato salad with sweet cornbread (also had jalapeño as an option) The brisket was great. Very tender and not overly salty. Had 3 sauces to choose from. (Wish the spicy would have had a stronger kick, but good nonetheless). Cole slaw had a great flavor and whatever they season the potato salad with (maybe some cilantro) tasted great. Real BBQ is tough to find, but this one was beyond solid. We found this place while driving around, and it's a solid bbq spot that can compete with places in Texas. We ordered some sausage, brisket, corn bread, mac' n cheese and potato salad. The sausage had a nice crispy casing, spice and smokey flavor. The brisket was moist and fell apart in your mouth. The corn bread was moist and tasted great. This is a must stop when traveling in/ through Key Largo. The owner/ chef is passionate about his food and has mastered the art. This is a food truck on the side of the road some picnic tables to eat at under a tent. Cars will be whizzing by so don't expect a fine dining experience, and the weather will make a difference. I recommend getting the food to go. Got the two meat plate with brisket and ribs. Was told the ribs were fresh out of the smoker, and they were very good, tender and flavorful. The brisket was tender but really didn't have any flavor. It's always disappointing when bbq needs sauce, in my opinion it should have such a good rub and natural smoke flavor that it should make sauce unnecessary. I've tried some of the top rated bbq places in Texas, Kansas City, Carolina, and in various other locations in the south and while this bbq was good, it just didn't measure up. It was average bbq at best. The ribs were good, but I honestly probably wouldn't order the brisket again. Corn bread was fine. Baked beans and canned green beans were as expected. I wish they had some better sides like collard greens or fried okra. Also wish they made has some fresh squeezed lemonade or key limeade or homemade sweet tea something. I ended up just drinking my own bottle of water I had with me in the car since they didn't have any good drinks. One thing that was great was the service though. The lady behind the counter was very friendly, and she came over and checked on us at the table too. While the food was probably only 3.5 stars, I rounded up to 4 stars overall because she was very nice. Glad she told us the ribs were fresh out of the smoker or I probably would've only ordered the brisket and I would've been disappointed. Overall I really wanted to like it here and it was a nice place to stop for food while driving through the keys but I wouldn't go out of my way to come here again sadly. read more

Just finished devouring Mikes Brisket sandwich. As a BBQ aficionado & semi-expert on Southern BBQ ( having lived in the real south for 25 years) I must say that his stuff is the real deal. Brisket had the great char & pink ring you expect from TEXAS Brisket. The pulled pork was delicious and pulled beautifully. Both were lean and made great sandwiches. I also enjoyed his sauces. However I found the N. Carolina Sauce a little sweeter than I like. Overall, this place is worthy of its 5 star reputation! If your near Key Largo it's worth stopping at this unassuming Red Trailer next to the Dolphin Resort. Just Wish you had a location in Palm Beach county! read more

I was down in Key Largo for the week, visiting old haunts and stuff, and my mom and I decided to try something new for lunch. One of the things that she wanted to try was one of the food trucks that have started popping up in the area, so after a visit to the hardware store we decided to give Mike's BBQ a try. The menu is somewhat limited for the BBQ world, which for a food truck I actually consider to be a good thing. You are not going to find a full BBQ spread here, but there is enough on the list to make a good variety for a full meal. The sides are appropriate, and then the mains are varied enough that you can grab a full lunch without issue. The service is friendly and there are a number of picnic tables available under a couple of awnings so that you don't have to sit out in the beating Florida sun while eating. Parking can get a bit hairy if there are a lot of folks partaking, but it is manageable. On to the food. I ordered the pulled pork sandwich platter while my mother got the sliced sausage platter. My pulled pork sandwich was quite good, and when paired with their North Carolina style mustard sauce it went down very nicely. The sliced sausage sandwich my mother got had so much sausage on it that my mother pulled off a good portion of the sausage that we then took home with us, and ate the rest. All in all I would say that this food truck is certainly worth visiting if you are travelling up and down the Keys and need a bite to eat for lunch. read more
