Ahhh Miffies! Welcome to the USC Tower! I'm ecstatic to see a local coffee shop in my office building in DTLA. The couple that runs this business knows what's up! They are from across the pond and have brought some flavors, with a twist, to the states. My favorite is my paddington, latte. If you like marmalade, then this is the drink for you! They don't make their drinks with milk. The oat milk they use is really creamy and perfect for lattes. I'm only in my office on Tuesdays and they can get busy, if you don't get there early. I hope everyone can come by and get some coffee from Miffies!

They just opened Monday. This is a great option with the limited coffee places around here. Ordered a small coconut latte for $7. Super tasty and can't wait to try other drinks.

I'm so happy Miffies has a new location in DTLA! If you're looking for a great mix of quality coffee and fun drinks, visit their coffee cart in the USC Tower. Their drinks and pastries are 100% plant-based and 100% delicious. Their vegan smoothies are also to DIE for! The Green Sunshine is my favorite. Sometimes they have a line during the morning rush, but you can order ahead for pick-up through their website or DoorDash. What a great addition to Downtown. Thanks, guys!

Fresh beans and great coffee! Finally a good place for a nice espresso or pour over near the office!

Good food. Veggie burrito was really good. Wanted a bean burrito but didn't seem be on menu. Service was good and helpful. Ambiance is taco truck good. Nice seating, canopy, condiments, security guard. Maybe even a bathroom with service station nearby! English is good tho Spanish might be more appreciated.

However, only a tiny fraction of these pop-ups boasts a substantial crowd -- unsurprisingly, the bustling operations tend to be among the best. One popular taqueria is Tacos Tamix, a mini-fleet of loncheras specializing in Mexico City-style al pastor. Gone are Tamix's streetside trombos, but the Tamix trucks still have sizeable queues late into the night. I first visited the Picu-Union truck on Hoover. The taxi-yellow lonchera and its vibrant LED lights pop out against an otherwise dimly lit block. Parking within the Mobil gas station lot is like a game of Tetris. Metal folding chairs and pop-up tables are scattered underneath E-Z Up canopies. Order numbers, shouted out over the intercom, occasionally break the hum of street traffic. A security guard watches over the operation. We arrived for a late weekend dinner, and Tamix maintained a steady stream of customers. We were able to order quickly, and our food was prepared within 10 minutes. We tried multiple Tacos con Queso (Al Pastor, Asada, and Chorizo), as well as Mulitas (Carnitas). The palm-sized tortillas were sprinkled with a moderate portion of meat and an even layer of crispy cheese. Of the meats, I was most impressed by the juicy, flavorful al pastor; however, I was surprised that the taco was not garnished with pineapple. Meanwhile, I found the remaining proteins to be tasty but dry. Otherwise, the tacos were clearly superior to Tamex's sad excuse for mulitas, which were bogged down by flimsy and soggy (rather than crispy and fried) tortillas. Our bill ran $15 (relatively reasonable by LA taqueria standards nowadays), of which half belonged to the disappointing mulitas. While the late-night hours were a major plus, only the taco al pastor was memorably enjoyable; otherwise, the lackluster menu isn't worth a visit out of your way.

Misnomer. When I saw the name of this food truck, I thought this might be Central American's "soul"…read morefood, but it was actually US Southern soul food with a little Latin twist. The only Latin American ingredients were tortilla, store-bought chips and their mango salsa (which was good). I like the idea of putting southern food in tortilla for convenient, food-truck dining, but I would expect a bit more blending of the two cuisines with its name. Zora Neale's Special: perfectly seasoned and grilled tilapia with greens (kale) and Mac n' cheese for $12. They serve it in a hamburger styrofoam box, so it looks rather small, but they load it and are very generous with the portions! I couldn't finish it in one sitting. I must say the greens and Mac n' cheese were quite salty, though. 3 Taco Special: your choice of chicken, beef brisket, fish and/or oxtail(!), which comes with store-bought chips and their mango salsa for $12. Each taco is regularly priced at $4. They allow you to order different kinds of meat per order, which is nice, but they didn't have oxtail at this time. :( The beef brisket was good, but again, a tad on the salty side. For sides, I tried the plantain chips and sweet potato fries. The plantain chips were not chips at all, but fried plantains, which were delicious, but we expected chips. The sweet potato fries were crispy and seasoned just right. I also ordered what I thought was watermelon juice, but it was really sugary lemonade with a few pieces of watermelon in it. Again, not what I was expecting. :/ The staff working in the truck was really nice, though, and tried to get orders out quickly.
