Taste of Midwest Wings XL (catering at work meeting)
    Cory S.

I have always been a huge fan of chicken regardless of how it's prepared, and I have memories of going out for wings with family and friends over the years. Today, I learned about Midwest Wings XL, and I even learned that I have friends who have been there and think the world of the wings. I even had a chance to taste some of the menu items while meeting the owner. I'm certainly excited to visit the restaurant and try a variety of wings and other items soon! I had a work meeting this morning, and Midwest Wings XL was catering! I had the pleasure to enjoy some chicken tenders, beignets, berries, and honey. The beignets reminded me of visits to New Orleans and Cafe Du Monde with its sweetened dough fried in oil until golden and puffy and covered with some powdered sugar. With the honey, it was sweet and tasty! The chicken was lightly breaded and tender as chicken tenders should be. While these were both delicious, I am really excited to try their wings which have sauces like Honey Garlic, Asian Zing, Golden BBQ, Garlic Parmesan, and Lemon Pepper. Yum!! In addition to trying some catered dishes, I also met Kiara, the owner and founder of Midwest Wings XL, which opened in August 2024. As someone who once lived in the Midwest myself, it's nice to have someone bring a taste of home, Midwestern-style comfort food including bone-in and boneless wings to Phoenix. This is a Black-owned restaurant, and according to my friends has become a warm, community-focused space in the area. Visit their website (https://midwestwingsxl.com) to see their menu, learn more about the restaurant, order items online (using Door Dash), contact the restaurant, see some customer reviews, or apply to work there. They are open on game days with hours being Monday through Thursday from 11 AM to 9 PM, Friday from 11 AM to 10 PM, Saturday from 1 PM to 10 PM, and Sunday from 12 Noon to 8 PM. They are active on Tik Tok and Instagram. They also serve lunch specials where you can get 5 wings or 3 tenders served with fries and a drink for $15. Again, I love chicken and Midwest Wings XL seems like the kind of place where you can try a different wing sauce every day, so I need to visit it ASAP!

These were some of the best wings that I have ever had! The ordering process was easy and convenient. I called in my order, and it was ready in the timeframe that they stated. I had the honey hot with lemon pepper and garlic parmesan topped with shredded on top. The seasoned fries were also delicious. They have a variety of wings and other menu items as well. They are definitely worth trying! If I lived in Phoenix I know for sure this would be my wing spot! Yummy! :)

Love this location is conveniently located downtown Phoenix, surrounded by other businesses such as Taco Bell, the basketball stadium baseball stadium train station anymore. You can place your order online or go in person. The food is always made hot and fresh every single order that I have received they play great music great atmosphere.. My only suggestion is for them to have like a better ventilation system because it do get very smoky in there at times. Over all the food and the service is always amazing. The prices are a little expensive but if you go Monday through Friday during the week from 11 to 3, you could take advantage of their lunch special which includes five wings fries and a drink and or tenders for $14.

The 3 piece tender lunch special was more than enough and for my drink I got koolaid. I'll definitely be going here more often. The fries are good, I got the medium buffalo sauce and it was perfect I think next time I'll just ask for a little extra sauce. But I was very satisfied with my lunch choice.

I love the fries here . They were just fried right ! As the for wings , I thought they were good but mango habanero was sweet with no kick at all. It was still good though

The guys at the front were super friendly and helpful--they recommended some flavors we ended up really enjoying. We don't eat wings often, so we don't have much to compare them to, but we thought they were really tasty. That said, they were very salty--we found ourselves drinking water non-stop for the rest of the night. Still, a solid spot if you're craving wings and want friendly service.

    Cheron P.

The wings slapped! I got the honey hot wings and talk about delicious and nice size wings but not scary in size! They have a lunch special that includes a drink and I got the koolaid and it brought me back to my childhood tbh! They have daily food specials also! Service was quick and food was hot and fresh! Indoor and outdoor seating!

Overall experience 4.8 Customer service - 5.0 Food - 4.6 In Phoenix to watching my daughter play in the National Collegiate Club volleyball tournament for the weekend. After a long day of competition her group wanted wings/chicken so Midwest Wings XL hit one of the girls radar, so off we go. Upon arriving the place was busy with to-go & pick-up orders as well as other diners. There was about a dozen in our group so each of us order at the register, once the cashier finish taking our order she organized tables for all of us to sit together. Food comes out quickly and HOT! My daughter and I order the 5 wing w/honey garlic lunch special (fries & drink included) + 6 tenders (with Asian Zing & Mango Habañero). Their fries and well seasoned and super crispy. The wings were crispy but a little dry but the Honey Hot flavor added some needed moisture. Their tenders are amazing with either sauce, the tenders are perfectly cooked and moist too! The Filipino in me said find some rice, so I go next door to get steamed rice from the Ricemill which just elevated my meal! Midwest Wings XL is a small quaint eatery, but will satisfy your craving for wings or tenders. Everyone in our group had smiles and we look forward to returning if we're in the area again.

We stopped by for dinner before our concert across the street. There is a decent amount of seating in the restaurant, and the menu is basic, which is good because you have to pick a flavor for your wings! Our food took a really long time to come out, and it wasn't busy. My sister and I shared the tenders and the fries, and everything was really good, I enjoyed the honey, hot flavor, but everything was extremely salty. While we were waiting for our food, us, and our two other friends could barely talk to each other because the music in the lobby was so incredibly loud! I feel like it was getting louder as the time went on. Are there two friends ordered additional alcohol, and it literally took 10 minutes for them to bring it over to the table. One of them had to walk up to the counter to remind them. They also don't have water, which I thought was strange. Ranch cost extra too!

Ordered through door dash to have delivered to my hotel. Door Dash calls one of the flavors something slightly different on the app so I got a call from the store just to ensure I got what I wanted. Awesome customer service and truly made the difference because the flavor is the Buffalo with Blue Cheese crumbles. Those wings were so good. The blue cheese crumbles hit it just right. The spice on their buffalo sauce is perfect. If this was the only flavor they had, they'd still make money. Also got the lemon pepper dry rub. A very flavorful coating. Pretty unique to other lemon pepper rubs from other places. The cook of the wing was excellent. Slightly crunchy but not overdone. They also get points for presentation. All wings were well organized in the container. Cheers to Midwest Wings XL. I'll definitely hit them up again when I'm in DTP.

Owwwww weee baybee!!!!! Okayyyyy!!! Do you hear me! okayyyyy!! The best wings I ever had!!! And let me tell you... I've travels from Houston, Cali, Vegas, Chi, Hong Kong... BEST WINGS!!! I don't even know why you are waiting to come!!! Across the street from footprint!!

Went here on Wednesday for $1 wings - love that we could mix and match sauces, there's a lot of options including dry rubs. The wings were large, crispy yet juicy inside. The fries were crispy and a good size portion. The staff were all friendly and the restaurant is clean. They don't have a fountain for drinks - only bottled or koolaid (fitting for the theme) so BYO water bottle. Great spot for beforehand a game, we will be back!

I stopped by Caldwell County BBQ for dinner on a Saturday evening. Located in Gilbert, I found…read morestreet parking right in front of the restaurant despite it being quite busy. I'll preface this review by saying I have very high standards when it comes to BBQ. I am from Houston after all. Caldwell County BBQ very much lived up to the hype. It's no surprise their reviews are so good. Ambiance (5/5): Caldwell County BBQ serves Texas-style BBQ. I felt right at home. There's a lot of Texan decor and the sort of ambiance you would expect at a BBQ joint. It's a spacious restaurant with plenty of seating outside and a decent amount of seating inside. We sat inside. One of the things they do well is keeping the A/C blasting both indoors and outdoors (while you're likely going to wait in line) along with misters. Definitely something you need in Phoenix! Service (4/5): I hate waiting in line. Though it's not unusual at popular BBQ spots, I still wish places like this would hire a couple of more people to make the line move faster (or even completely eliminate the lines). We probably waited in line for about 20 minutes. They have a water cooler along the route, but it was all out. Something the staff should check on a little more frequently. With all this being said, Caldwell County is well worth the wait. Drinks (5/5): Whenever I'm at a BBQ joint, I'm looking for sweet tea. Which they have here. Plus your standard assortment of soft drinks and alcohol, with a focus on beer. Food (5/5): BBQ joints typically have you pay by weight or by plates (one meat, two meats, three meats, etc.). Caldwell does it by the pound unless you go with a sandwich, loaded baked potato, etc. What's nice is they also have a family pack for 4 which comes with brisket, pulled pork, and your choice of ribs, sausage, or one other protein which is escaping me. Plus two large pint-size sides. We rolled with this option as it's a good deal (brisket, pulled pork, and St. Louis style ribs with corn casserole and mac and cheese). White bread, pickles, onions, and jalapenos are available free of charge. There are three BBQ sauces at each table: their classic BBQ, spicy, and AZ gold). We also added a quarter pound of the AZ burnt ends. Man, these are some quality meats. Brisket is the true test of Texas BBQ and the shining star. The brisket here isn't the best I've ever had but it's quite respectable. The sweet and spicy AZ burnt ends were delicious too. The ribs were tender and had a nice sweet glaze on them. The pulled pork was my least favorite, but still quite good. The sides are solid, though they could be a bit better. The mac and cheese was too peppery for my taste and the corn casserole was too sweet. Like pretty much all craft BBQ these days, Caldwell County BBQ isn't cheap. But the quality is there. This is the type of place that I would come back to again and again. They also have a location in Peoria though this one is the original. And I hear they don't run out of meats as other BBQ joints do (especially in Texas). That's a big plus! It's always a bummer when a BBQ joint is out of something you want. If you haven't been to Caldwell County BBQ, change that quick. Yeehaw!

We had about 135 guests, and everyone was raving about how good everything tasted. Working with Marcus was super easy from the start. He made the entire process smooth and stress-free, and he was always accommodating whenever we needed to make changes to the quotes or menu. He was friendly, professional, and genuinely great to work with. He provided the charcuterie boards for our cocktail hour, which were a huge hit, and then served BBQ for dinner. The buffet-style setup worked perfectly, and the line moved quickly. We never ran out of food, and guests kept coming up to us throughout the night to tell us how amazing everything was. They handled all the setup and even brought their trailer on-site, smoking and cooking right there at the venue which was so cool to see and added to the whole experience. On top of all that, Marcus is super affordable, especially considering that the quality of the food is truly exceptional. You get incredible value for what you pay. We absolutely loved working with Marcus and would definitely use Gibson's Smokehouse again. Highly recommend for any wedding or event!- Megan & Cierra

For sides, they were $4 for what appeared to be 8oz cups which seemed a little pricey but if homemade it's worth the price point. Both my cousin and I thought the coleslaw was an odd flavor like there was either red apple or radish in there, but we couldn't quite figure it out. A skip for me if I visit this truck again. As for the potato salad, it was fairly decent though it had large pieces of potato skins which I personally do not care for in my potato salad. Since we didn't get any actual food as I stick to a vegetarian diet mostly, I'll give it a 4 star for the sides. Overall, the service was quick and friendly. The atmosphere is what you make of where a food truck is parked. The condiment/utensils available on the ledge do make it easier for grab-and-go.

The brisket was further flavored choosing one or more of the three sauces: sweet hot ish BBQ, sweet mustard sauce and one more flavor. My top taste of the meal was prickly pear lemonade. Going back for a refill I found 2/3 lemonade and 1/3 prickly pear made my perfect BBQ beverage. The peppery beans with another serving of pulled meat mixed in improved on my palate with sweet sauce added. The mustard sauce was recommended for our sandwich. It was a good addition. This what we ordered: Brisket Hot links Pork Belly Pork Ribs BBQ Beans Collard Greens BBQ Spaghetti Hot Water Cornbread Cedar Lane Lemonade Everything was flavored nicely. If I had to omit one item from our order it would be the beans. My favorite was the BBQ Spaghetti, collard greens and the Hot water cornbread. I thought the beans would have a bit more flavor, but I've never been a bean kind of gal. You will need to try it for yourself! The Hot water Cornbread was great. The texture was a little gritty, but still yummy. The shape is what caught me by surprise. It was round and flat almost like a pancake. The service was outstanding. Friendly and hardworking. The food came out in good time. There is plenty of seating inside and outside. Has a warm but rustic vibe. I would most definitely revisit this spot whenever in the area.

The whites stayed north because local industry made real estate in the southside less desirable. Slaughterhouses and rendering factories gave south Phoenix a black cowboy population. The girl behind the counter was all by herself. Gave great recommendations. And even gifted me a bottle of water On this visit, brisket was sold out. Late afternoon: makes sense. They had pulled pork. Bites of the smokerd rendered fat therein had the effect of rocket fuel. Pork belly was even porkier than the aforementioned shredded butt. Ribs pretty good too. Mac: ultra cheesy. Pot liquor from the collard greens came in clutch for hydrating the more dry pieces of pork.
