This place is a real find. Great atmosphere and fast, friendly service. We've been here twice. The first time I had fried cod fillet. Good size portion and cooked perfectly. Crispy outside and flakey inside. Today I had an omelet specially prepared off menu. They were very accommodating and cooked it perfectly. I checked out what some other patrons were having and some of the sandwiches looked pretty good. This place would do well no matter where it was located. We were on our way out of Lake Geneva heading back to Chicagoland and due to a late start we knew we would have a hard time parking in LG. So we consulted Yelp and found this gem of a place. Very cute inside, with attentive staff and great food. I had the veggie skillet, was top notch, I really tasted the freshness of the veggies. My friends had the breakfast burrito (with optional side of fresh fruit) and a cheese omelette. We all were very happy with the entire experience. I ordered take out for breakfast from this place. I ordered a country morning skillet they gave me a good morning skillet. Now when I called them they said they would just give me sausage gravy if I came but up. I said no, I would like mine made fresh and I will bring back up the wrong dish. Great atmosphere. So, I love the way it's decorated in here. It reminds me of someone's home kitchen with a bit of country flair. I had the mexican skillet and it was great. The only thing I was a little disappointed at was, the menu stated it would be county potatoes (which I think of as hand cut/chopped seasoned potatoes) and they used the frozen hash type potatoes found in the freezer isle. Really a nice little spot for breakfast. There is a counter area you can sit at along with booths and tables. The food portions are good without being absurd and the food is very good. The staff is personable and helpful. They have good menu options and seem to have all the breakfast bases covered. A perfect place to eat! Spacious, clean dining area, sparkling rest rooms, and a friendly staff. My favorite is the breakfast bagel sandwich, which is my go to meal for eating on the run. I enjoy the drive from Lake Villa to Spring Grove for the best breakfast place I have ever been too. It is my every Saturday routine to go up there for a cup of coffee and an omelette or skillet. My taste bud's are always craving the battered bread. Its like a piece of french toast married a funnel cake and had twins. ha! The servers never allow my coffee cup to be half empty, they stay on top of my caffeine habit. I would highly recommend this place to anyone who is looking for a great breakfast joint. It looks from the menu Midwest Breakfast Co. does breakfast and lunch. Who would have thought? I had driven by a few times and was curious. We were making our annual family pilgrimage to cut our Christmas tree in Spring Grove. It was cold and so we thought it would be a better choice to brave the chilly temps with full bellies. The food was typical and nothing special. Eggs, pancakes, and skillets made up the basic breakfast menu. I ordered the "homemade" corned beef hash. Homemade consisted of chopping a bit of corned beef and mixing it with frozen hash browns. There was very little coned beef in my hash. The rest of our meals were OK. The restaurant is in a small strip center and the door opens up into other restaurant, which on cold days makes for very cool breezes while you are eating. they need a vestibule or a foyer too keep the cold from permeating the dining room. The service was good, the coffee was average. If I was driving by I am not sure I would stop and I would definitely not make a special trip. It appears they are relatively new and maybe not seasoned restaurant people. I will give them a couple months to work out the kinks and give them another try. read more

My husband and I have been here twice now. Breakfast casserole is one of the side options with breakfast and it's outstanding. Ask for it crispy. The corn beef hash is not the mush you get at other places. Its actual corned beef that they make mixed with hash browns. I don't typically like it but my husband ordered it and it was outstanding. Today I did lunch and got the pot roast sliders with sweet potato chips which are light and airy and clearly made fresh there. The sliders were amazing. The place is small but we had very short wait for table and there were two groups ahead of us. Service is friendly and helpful with menu. Explains their specialties. I strongly suggest you avoid this restaurant. The food is average. The problem is that if they are busy they will ask you to leave once you are finished your meal. I could not believe it but only 10 minutes after we finished our meal the waitress said "how long are you going to stay - we have people that waiting and would like to have your table. As far as the food goes, it is great and that is why I was going every Saturday during my morning lunch break. Two coworkers and I went in this morning for breakfast. We waited to be seated and understood that because the place was so busy, we would have a longer than average wait time. Therefore, once we were seated we made things extremely easy and ordered 3 of the same thing. Everything was going really well. We ate comfortably and we're satisfied. When we received the bill, one of my coworkers went to pay for the bill. I was going to leave the tip on the table. My second coworker left his wallet at work. Like I said, we were all on a lunch break. I left my wallet in the car. Well, after my coworker paid, we all left outside. I was about to walk back in with my wallet to leave a tip when the waitress came outside and yelled "thanks for the tip guys!" In the most annoyed and sarcastic tone. I told her I was about to walk back in with it and she just said "yeah ok" and walked back inside. Needless to say, I felt like just driving away but I didn't. I had my coworker go inside and leave the tip. I also want to point out that this waitress knows we were coming from work and has seen many of us there. We were in our uniform. It was completely uncalled for. My coworkers and I have already told other employees of this scenario and I'm sure many will stop going simply because of the service not because of the food. I'm extremely disappointed that nobody from management reached out to apologize also, seeing as how she was loud enough that other patrons at the restaurant heard her. read more

We keep trying this place, hoping it has improved, or that this business has read the reviews and made some changes.....neither are happening. The food is pretty good. The coffee is great. Here's the issue: the service. When servers aren't congregated around the front counter drinking coffee, they quickly jet out to one table and back to the counter ASAP. (Is there some magnetic force field here???). Get out of your personal conversations, and sweep your entire station on each trip. Better yet, help each other out and fill coffee and water glasses as you see they're empty, instead of disregarding because it's not your station. It's customer service 101.
