This diner in Charlotte is very nostalgic and vintage looking. Now l came at 7:15 am so they were not busy yet. Been here for a few days for work and I've seen lines of people waiting to get in. So I definitely picked the right time to come. Feel like it took a minute for my server to warm up to me. But in the end she was smiling and nice. Ordered 2 eggs, hashbrowns, and 2 shortcakes. The pancakes were delicious! Me eggs were cooked perfectly. The hashbrowns had to much oily butter for my liking. The top crispy parts were great but the underneath was greasy. I've been here before but it has been a couple of years. My husband and I were stopping to Charlotte and decided to have a quick breakfast on the way home. There was a short 15 minute was at around 9:30 but it went by quickly and the hostess was very friendly and managed the people well. Once inside I ordered the chicken and the waffles and my husband ordered the bubba which is a biscuit dish with eggs and gravy on the biscuit. My husband liked the biscuit and gravy dish overall and had no complaints although he stated he had had better. The hash browns were top tier, fresh and a great sized portion. The chicken and waffles is where it went downhill for me. The chicken tasted exactly like Smithfield's fast food chicken. Although it is supposed to be a home made marinaded chicken and freshly fried, it was dull and lackluster. It wasn't very hot and it didn't have that fresh chicken shine. I was disappointed. The waffle was okay, it had a nice sweet flavor to it, but again I've had better. Maybe I'm a little spoiled by the offerings in my city that I live in but it was just an okay meal for me. The waitress at the table was nice and fast although it did take me asking three times to get lemon with my tea. The restaurant is loud but cute. It had a few rough patches, I'm not sure how old it is but overall it was nice. I think I will need a new breakfast place in Charlotte from now on as this place isn't as good as I remember but I would 100% recommend for the hash browns. read more

Over the last few years I've dined at Midnight Diner several times. I recently had an opportunity to grab a weekday lunch at their new downtown location with my cousin. Fortunately for us, there was no wait and the service was excellent. Friendly vibes from wall to wall. My cousin ordered the steak and eggs and was thoroughly satisfied. I've ordered the chicken and waffles a few times, and they're amazing. But nothing, absolutely nothing, compares to the Shrimp & Grits. Bubba Gump would be so, so proud. Who knew that pan-seared shrimp, veggies, and homemade creole sauce could = culinary perfection? And the buttermilk biscuit? It's always just as perfect as the dish. I've been to my fair share of high-end brunch spots, but NONE of their versions can hold a candle to the shrimp and grits at this diner. If you haven't tried theirs yet, quit stalling! Apparently, this diner is a must try in Charlotte. My family and I decoded to go to the Midnight Diner. I was told that it is a Charlotte staple. Upon entry, it does look like an old diner, but we were greeted and seated quickly by our very chipper waitress, Mikia. My sister-in-law recommended the shrimp and grits and said that it is absolutely delicious. I really wanted breakfast, so I ended up ordering pancakes with eggs and bacon. My hubby ordered the same as me except he opted for french toast instead of pancakes. The food came out fairly quickly. My pancakes were very good and the bacon was cooked just right, and the eggs were scrambled perfectly as well. I also tried my sister-in-law's shrimp and grits. They were so creamy and delicious and the shrimp were seasoned and cooked just right. Finally, for dessert, my mother-in-law and ai tried the deep dish bourbon pecan pied it was good but needed to be served warmer. I also tried the coconut cake. It was also great. Overall. The food and service at the Midnight Diner was stellar. The food was good and Mikia, our waitress was phenomenal. She was so nice and recommended some great options. We were promptly seated at a booth and water and coffee came to our table shortly afterward. I ordered 1 egg breakfast with city ham, grits, and rye toast with coffee. My best friend had 1 egg breakfast with hash browns, sausage links, and rye toast. We both enjoyed our meals, the food was hot and fresh. I was so pleased with the way the grits were made - so creamy and well seasoned, no extra salt or butter needed. My friends hash browns were nice and crispy, as they should be. April was our server and she was amazing - energetic, hilarious, and somehow remembered every little thing we ordered without writing it down (I can't even remember why I walked into the kitchen most days). The food was awesome, but the grits? Life-changing. Fluffy, creamy, basically a warm hug in a bowl. This was around 11pm on a Saturday night and it was pretty damn packed, but miraculously we were seated pretty quickly. We had Zhane Cl. as our server and she was absolutely wonderful. The menu is very extensive so I was certainly overwhelmed with all the options with this being our first time there, but Zhane was very patient and answered all of my questions about the menu and had a great attitude the whole time. The food came out quickly and was fresh, tasty, and the portions were generous. Zhane was super cool, down to earth, and made my birthday weekend even more memorable. If I'm ever in Charlotte again I'm certainly stopping in and I hope to have her as my server! read more

Welp I have to say the food was average and I feel as though it's not as authentic as it was before . Sadly this place is losing its touch. So I recently went there on Monday the 11th 1045 pm and ate and everything was OK got my check I had put zero as a tip because I left tip in cash and then I got my updated bill through my card and they had added a $10 tip on my card and I've been trying to get in touch with them since 1030am Tuesday morning and it's Sunday 10:18pm and I still haven't got a reply back or answer the phone so I will think twice before using cards at this establishment might need to be a cash only but I am hoping somebody will reach back out to me before I'll be able to get my money back or at least get rid of the thieves that they got in there establishment It's not about the ten if I knew they needed that bad I would've gave them 20 read more

First time eating here. Great food. I love me a diner that's got a retro feel to it. What's even better is the food that goes with. I had the buttermilk pancakes and they were very tasty. Service was OK, one thing strange was that one of our party ordered an omelette with avocado, and it was served with no avocado. I have mixed opinions about this restaurant and will keep this brief. The service is hit or miss. When I went yesterday, I stood for 20 mins and sat for 15 minutes without a menu or drink. Therefore, I took my money someplace else. The day before, the service was good and the fried fish was outstanding. The fried chicken was very bland and maybe this works for the chicken and waffles. At about 1AM there was a line out front with two security guards at the door. There were also two police officers parked on the sidewalk in front. The wait was about 45 minutes. Once inside it was a bustling diner with lots of staff. We opted to sit at the bar to get seated sooner. I ordered the Mexican cheeseburger which had an entire layer of jalapeños under the burger patty and a slice of pepper jack cheese on top. It was quite tasty. We flew into Charlotte for the ACC championship game and we're told from our hotel receptionist that you absolutely need to go to Midnight Diner and that there was usually a line out the door. She was right that it was super busy, the diner itself is very reminiscent of a 1930s mom and pop diner. The restaurant itself reminded me a lot of Waffle House. The inside was a bit chaotic, lots of folks there and organized chaos, however unlike a restaurant like Waffle House where you KNOW the food is going to be legit, it was not the same. The server forgot our owner multiple times and wasn't super attentive. The food however, was great. We got a black and blue burger, the picnic salad and fried shrimp. Definitely would order those again. This place gives me the Waffle House feel without the nostalgia. read more
