Almost 8 years later and I've been coming to Mid City Nails. Everyone is friendly and helpful for the most part. My go to people are Lenny, Hang and Nancy. Originally found years ago because of the quality and high rating reviews for dip. Some key things that are important to me is the smell in nail salon. When I walk in I almost forget it's a nail salon because all the chemicals do not hit me as I walk in the door. The variety of colors is a plus. The prices are reasonable as well. Man I'm not even sure where I start.. I've lived in this area for a little over 10 years now, and I used to come to Mid City every two weeks to get my nails done for 3+ years straight. Then I started having really strange experiences when I went.... so I stopped going. It's now been a few years since then, so I decided to give them another visit because I always remember liking the manicures. I called to make an appointment and asked if they can do aura nails and they said no problem. I walk in for my appointment last week, check in, and go wash my hands. When I come back up I end up getting the same woman that used to be the one I asked for every time I visited (Helen). She does a great job. But as soon as she walks up... I can already tell there's something wrong. I tell her I'm just looking for red aura nails, and I show her a picture. It's just a dark red base, with lighter red in the center. She looks at me, rolls her eyes, ignores me, says something to the host working the counter (who also doesn't understand why she's upset). After a while I awkwardly go "if that's not possible that is totally fine!" Helen turns back to me, huffing and puffing, and says something along the lines of "I can't do that", and me still trying to understand I asked if it's the colors we can't do, or the design itself? I'm fine with going with just a normal dip manicure too. After asking her what part can't we do, and that I'm happy to pick something else, she just stares at me. Then after a while she comes up with my nails not being long enough (even though my nails are the same length as the photo). I go that's fine we can just go with whatever length. As this is happening the woman working the front counter is also clearly confused as to why Helen is acting like this and what the issue is. I stay silent as that kind woman explains to Helen "she's fine with the nail length...". And Helen stays staring strangely at me saying nothing and not telling me what the problem is. After about 5 minutes we're still just standing at the front counter I just say "it's fine honestly I can go somewhere else!". The sweet woman working the counter is trying to get me to stay while also looking at Helen like.. what is wrong? Helen is saying nothing, still giving me this weird look. After all that awkwardness I just go "okay sorry, I'm going to head out now...". The counter woman looks mortified at me as I leave, and Helen stays staring at me now through the glass as I'm outside. lol. After all the years I've been there, I couldn't be more confused. But I'll never step foot in there again as long as she is working there. It's sad I used to love this place, and I've never tipped less than 20% for any manicure ANYWHERE. So this one stumped me. Oh well, I went over to Nail Envy and they did a FANTASTIC job on the dip manicure aura design. read more

She does the BEST dip and gel nails, always finds the best colors, is very thorough and takes her time, and my nails last me at least 5 weeks without any chipping. I love this place but my last appointment was disappointing. The lady that did my no chip mani and pedicure....did a rush job. I was in and out in less than 50 minutes, which is in heard of. I barely got a foot massage and NO HAND MASSAGE! That is my favorite part. The nail lady (in station 17) needs to take her time and not rush. This is my new favorite nail salon! On a Thursday night, I was in a pinch for time and wanted to get a no-chip mani to attend a wedding on the weekend. I called around to quite a few places in Lincoln Park and Midcity Nails came through! They were open later than other salons (which I appreciated and helps so much for someone who works a 9a-5p). When I called, they were able to squeeze me in with Mimi who is fantastic. At my request, she gave me almond shaped /rounded nails that was a first for me but I loved this shape. The filing was impeccable and when I came here, a little frazzled with trying to find a walk-in, Mimi was calming, no-nonsense, and a pleasure to work with as the nail tech. As of Dec 2021 a no-chip mani was $37. Several things made my experience really enjoyable, they have a parking lot (since they're located in a strip mall) next to a 7-11 and Mo's Asian Bistro. Plenty of spots (depending on the time of day) and walking distance across the side street to Tsaocaa Lincoln Park. Nails followed by a milk tea... what a treat! This neighborhood/area serves a lot of DePaul students and has a lot of restaurants & shops that are easily accessible. I came back again for a walk-in in January 2022 for a no-chip mani & regular pedi with Quy. She did a great job too! At the time of writing, this set was $67. Their prices are reasonable and they have plenty of staff and walk-in availability. Every time I come in, it's bustling and has a community feel. A lot of the clients have their go-to nail tech and I can tell that folks are regulars. After coming here twice and having a great experience each time - I am soon to become a regular myself! read more

I don't love strip mall nail salons in general. I've had mixed experiences and typically prefer a salon as a stand alone store or store front. However, this place was good. I called in the morning to make a mid morning appointment for a dip manicure. They confirmed availability, took my name and number. You can also use Booksy app to book. I arrived a couple minutes early because you never know about parking. The salon is in a tiny strip mall and parking is touch and go. You might not get a spot and I parked on the side street for free. The side street isn't permitted and mostly houses so easy to park close to the salon. I came through the door and was pleasantly surprised at how large the salon was. It's tucked in a corner so I wasn't sure how cramped it would be inside. The receptionist confirmed my appointment, told me to pick my dip color and told me to wash my hands and then assigned me a table number. Hang was my nail tech and she was polite, attentive and confirmed my color choice, opened the dip powder to ensure I still wanted that color and then proceeded to remove the old dip. She used acetone and the machine filer but was very careful of my actual nails. Overall, it was a good experience and I will be using them for my dip powder nails. I finally found a place that can create a narrow oval shape without needing me to come home and file them again. This is only a four instead of a five because of the parking. Please note, not every dip tech is great. Hang is great. read more

Called 3x between 2- and 2:45 on 12/19/24 hoping to get a different receptionist to No avail -the receptionist could not answer any of my questions regarding a couple of their services and stated she had no information but would not provide me anyone that was knowledgeable regarding the services in question and would Not tell me her name! I asked for Lenny the owner and she would not comply. Therefore, I made an appointment with Nail Fairy down the street, their competition, who did answer all my questions. I have been a regular customer at Midcity Nails since living in Lincoln Park and even after living in different parts of the city, drive to Midcity to get my nails done. I have tried other salons in the city and whether it's salons that don't do dip manicures, acrylics or just manicures that don't last - I can't find any other salon that has the same quality service. I personally love their dip manicures. Great color selection, super clean interiors and just overall great service. I came here and even drove out of my way for a dip manicure based on reviews and managed to receive the worst dip I have ever had. Issues: 1. Way too thick - Either too many layers were used or they were not appropriately buffed. The nails were not natural looking at all and the thickness was uneven so my nails don't even resemble a natural curve - see photo. 2. Uneven shaping and length - see photo, each nail was a significantly different length and some were not straight across at all. 3. The actual manicure portion of the manicure is lacking. They do the dip first and don't push back cuticles with an orange stick. Cuticles are done afterwards and mine ended up looking like a ragged mess. read more

Love midcity! I get acrylics done here by Ann, her shaping is on point- I always get long nails and she makes sure to be careful so my real nails stay healthy. Ann has good suggestions when I can't make up my mind. I used to get dip done too- they have a great selection of colors! I only switched to acrylic because it's stronger for long nails. Make a reservation because it's always busy- which is a good sign everyone is nice, stations are clean, and they have TVs to watch.
