This shop seems to be under new management as of the past year or so. At first we just noticed that they are very rude and brusque when you go in there. But now we have also had confirmed with a different Midas that they scammed us the last time we went in, and charged us over $400 for new brakes and rotors when we had just had those replaced with them the year before. We were rushed and scattered and didn't have the paperwork. They would have had had it in the computer as soon as they entered our name or car. So, outright ripoff. Highly don't recommend, which is a shame because it used to be a reliable neighborhood shop. read more

I was delightfully surprised to have such a positive experience at any chain auto repair companies. I had an essentially non -existent budget and the staff at Midas were wonderful in helping me prioritize what needed to be fixed. The manager Shane was extremely helpful and the whole staff was warm and responsive​. I will definitely return there for more work in the future, based on the customer service alone. read more

My biggest problem with this location is the fact they seemingly never answer the phone. I've called on multiple occasions and I've gotten the same results, nobody answering the phone. It's frustrating when you need your questions answered before you limp your car to them for repairs. read more

If I could give ZERO stars!!! I go in this morning for an estimate and possible repair on my truck. I am explaining to the guy the check engine light came on and that I needed an oil change and tune-up. He over talks me telling me needing a tune-up won't cause the check engine light to come on. If he was quite long enough to hear me out, he would have found out I have not gotten a tune-up since I had the truck, it's stuttering, I have put close to a 1,000 miles in less than a month and I am about to take it on a trip to SC. He was RUDE, argumentative and VERY AGGRESSIVE at 7:30 in the morning. Not the environment I want to have to sit in for hours during repair. Glad it didn't work out! OOHH I almost forgot. The diagnostic was $124 and some change and it did NOT count toward the repair. The guy got even ruder telling tell me the repair is a separate service. RIP OFF! I found a better place! Terrible customer service and rude staff. Came in only to wait about 10 or so minutes with no one helping us and continued to be ignored by staff after the fact. The man at the desk was giving the customer on the phone an attitude, hung up, and muttered about how crazy they were under his breath in front of us. Finally asked us what we were there for and proceeded to roll his eyes about the tail light being broken. Said he didn't have the part necessary and that was that. No alternatives. No 'have a nice day'. No 'sorry for wasting your time with our incompetence'. Not coming back. On the other hand, went right down the street to Auto Zone who not only had friendly customer service but fixed the problem right there. read more

Stay away.... I had gone to this shop since 2008 but my latest experience was horrifying. I took my car into the shop for brakes and to repair the brake line ($1100.00). A person from the shop left a message that my car was ready to be picked up. I didn't call back until the next day when I was informed that my car need a new battery ($179.00). The guy on the phone was so rude and condescending when I expressed shock that my car need a new battery for the low low price additional $179.00. When I picked up my car at approximately 6:30pm the guy was still being an a-hole and on top of the terrible customer service, the check engine light came on by the time I make it home. read more

I've taken my jeep several times to midas and my classic car once. Frankly, they seem very expensive. I work on my cars myself alot so I usually only take it to them to diagnose problem issues or work on brakes. I've been increasingly annoyed at the pattern of what i think is severe overcharging. In addition, minor issue but I when i last went to get my brakes diagnosed, they tried to charge me a ton for brakes and they didnt even look inside the rear drums. Also, they use an impact hammer to tighten everything, which is frankly dangerous on many parts. I wont be going back. read more

Ok service. Don't bother making an appointment online. You'll have to wait regardless. Also feel like I was told it would be done in 20 min several times while waiting 3 and a half hours. And after my car was done, it was another 10 min before hey rang me up. I'm sure pricing was on par with other mechanics, but will go somewhere in the future that is a bit faster. read more

Car battery was dead. I called Midas, asked if I got a jump and could bring it in, could they help me. Very friendly, "Yes, bring it on in." Got a jump from a friend, drove to Rhode Island location, and even though they were very busy, they had it in the bay within 20 minutes. Shortly thereafter they told me that, indeed, I did need a new battery. I approved it. 30 minutes later I was on my way with a new battery installed. They didn't try to upsell me on anything or try to suggest other repairs. Very happy with their service. Will be returning there for oil changes and tune-ups. Thanks guys! read more

I'm a former employee and what I witness there was totally unprofessional . The Only person up there that half way knows what is going on is Adam . The techs up there with the exception of one or two know what they are doing . The main manager Shane Griffin is always late . Shane Griffin and his other employee Yelli Haile both smoke crack in the employee bathroom . I have personally witness Shane Griffin nodding out on the shop floor and in the office . I have personally smell crack burning the employee bathroom . If that is not bad enough they have there friends come into the shop in the bathroom to smoke crack with them . I realize this might sound like a attack on this place due to me no longer working there I was let go for leaving 15 mins early but I'm not attacking the establishment I'm just saying these things need to be address before another good employee is let go . read more

Went to Midas to get two new tires/tire rotation. When I left I noticed that my tire air pressure sensor was on. I asked one of the mechanics and he told me that it would turn off on its own and that it was on because the tire had just been changed. After the sensor did not turn off for a couple days I inspected the tires and discovered that on the right side the valve stems had never been replaced and the tires were 5 PSI low. I decided to check the tires that did have valve stems and they were 5 PSI high. Will not be going to this location again for service. read more

This Midas and the old one that was on NY Ave (closed late 2013) are owned by the same person. I received service at the NY Ave location, but the owner is still operating a Midas business and responding to NY Ave complaints; therefore, I wanted to put this review out so no one makes the same awful mistake I did. I went to Midas in Nov. 2013 for what should have been a simple oil change. After the oil change, my brakes failed. They went completely to the floor and I almost got into an accident. Thank goodness I was in the city and not on a highway or I might've died. I had the car towed to a reputable mechanic who showed me evidence that someone had put an oily substance in the brake fluid, which had permeated the brake system and destroyed my master brake cylinder. $500 bucks to replace it and two additional visits (and two more near-accidents) to flush out all of the offending liquid. I called the main Midas HQ number - they basically said all they can do is pass on the complaint to this owner, which they did, but they cannot really do anything else. The owner's office manager contacted me and basically said since I have no evidence, I can't prove it was Midas' fault, so they won't do anything. I indicated I had saved the brake fluid/oily substance mixture and the master cylinder, but that didn't make a difference to her. Since I bought my car (new), I have gotten the required oil changes and I have never had a problem with the brake system until now. It has maybe 45k miles on it, so it should not have any master cylinder problems (I called the car manufacturer to check.) I don't touch anything under the hood and no one else did after Midas. Please do not risk your life and safety by saving a couple bucks on an oil change with these guys - go somewhere else. read more

The sign says it opens at 730 but at 9am no one is here and I have been standing in the cold for 45 minutes. No one answers the phone and there's no message explaining why they aren't open. I came for a "quick" oil change and could not have been more disappointed. I brought in a 1986 Ford 150 and was initially told it would be quick. I checked in after 30 min of waiting and my truck hadn't even been pulled back yet. I was told that they were waiting on a special part for my truck to be brought to the store. The front desk clerk also said they had no idea what oil to use on my truck because their system didn't have it listed. I waited another 20 min before a part for the truck arrived, then was told they didn't bring everything that was needed and would have to wait longer for another part to arrive. All of this for a simple oil change?!? I wasted an hour of my day, and had to leave without an oil change because they had no idea how long it would take for the other part to arrive and still were clueless about the oil type. Needless to say I would not recommend going to Midas, nor will I be back as a customer. read more

I thought i'd give this place a try after they reopened with new management (before I had excellent service here and then the worst so I wrote it off entirely). Yesterday I brought my car in to fix the driver side mirror which someone dinged and broke the mirror. The price they quoted me was $386 and that was WITH a 'coupon'. I laughed and told them that was insane and no. The guy on the phone asked 'do you want me to see if i can find a cheaper part?' and i said yes considering I could buy the entire thing for $86 and do it myself. They called back with a new estimate in less than 10 minutes with a new price of $176. When I got to my car, it looked fine and worked fine. It did bother me that they clearly used the old top half of the mirror casing and the plastic was scratched and gouged where it looks like they pried it apart. Won't be going back. read more

It was a pretty good experience for me, especially considering I always feel foolish when I take my car anywhere because I know nothing about cars. Just went for an oil change, they took my car right away. The man let me know having too many things on my keys was not good for the ignition. Got something to eat, came back and he let me know something about my brakes. I appreciated it because it was helpful and he gave my suggestions but was not pushy about getting it done then. I should have checked the reviews on this site before going to this Midas location. There should be a warning on this shop that reads: CAUTION IF WE WORK ON YOUR VEHICLE WE GUARANTEE YOU'LL LEAVE WITH MORE PROBLEMS THAN YOU INITIALLY STARTED WITH AND AS AN EXTRA BONUS WE WILL OVERCHARGE YOU. I had a routine oil change that led to Midas making repair recommendation approx $450 worth of work. Prior to the recommend work being done I saw NO visible fluid leaks from my car. However, after the recommended "repairs" were done puddles of oil were leaking from my car. Then the work was redone BUT there was still fluid leaking from my car--but this time it wasn't oil. Great a new leak less than 5days after Midas "fixing" my car. I was told the additional needed repairs would cost $400plus dollars. What was the total price paid to Midas to acquire an ongoing migraine headache, you ask?? Answer: over $800. I now feel forced so seek a second opinion on the "completed repairs" for I don't have faith in the completed work nor believe the leakage has been solved. read more

It most certainly was not leaking like that when I brought it in, but I'm sure they saw me and thought they could make a quick buck off of me. Avoid this shop like the plague. I went to this Midas in 2016 for an issue with my '99 Saturn's power steering pump. I told them that another repair shop had changed out the pump and it didn't work (it was hard to turn the steering wheel) - they charged $1,500, and I was back within a week with the same issue. I went back 6+ times, at some point they recommended that I change out the pressure hoses too, which I paid another $300+ for - after 6 months and a half a dozes warranty repairs, they told me that they had been replacing the pump with the wrong model and that they would have to charge ANOTHER $700 for a new pump and rack. When I called the owner, he claimed that it was my fault that they hadn't properly diagnosed the issue, because I had "a buddy" fix my car, and they weren't supposed to know that the pump they'd installed and then replaced a half a dozen times was not the right fit for my vehicle - because, you know, after all, they are just the professionals whose expertise I'm supposed to rely on. The owner pretty much threatened me that I would either pay another "substantial amount" or I could go and pick up my car and take it back to my "buddy," aka the shop that previously couldn't fix my vehicle. After I reluctantly agreed, and was told that I had to pay for the parts up front, they kept my car for nearly a month while they were waiting for the new pump and rack. Needless to say, I was back within a couple of weeks because there was no power steering fluid left in the reservoir. In the meantime, I had another Midas check out the job that they'd done, because the pump was making an awful noise again - they told me that there was oil everywhere under the car, and that it was not safe to drive like that. When I went back to the Rhode Island Ave Midas, they simply refilled the oil, saying that it due to air in the system that it had gone down. I went to another Midas for a "second opinion," this time I also took photos, where I also learned that the power steering pump was not properly bolted, which caused a rattling noise while driving and would eventually get the whole assembly to fall apart - then back to the Rhode Island Ave Midas, where the manager claimed that there was absolutely no oil anywhere and I kept going back because, in his words I "had nothing better to do." When I confronted him with the photos, he claimed that there may have been some minor seepage and that they'd have to order new parts and warranty out the rack. In the meantime, I also contacted the BBB and the Consumer Protection department of the DC Attorney General's office. When the attorney from the AG's office called them, the owner said he was willing to compensate for up to $200 of my rental costs, against rental receipts. I eventually ended up dropping the case, because corporate Midas was not willing to deal with the issue, and advised, instead, to sue the Rhode Island Ave location. All in all, I know that it's a franchise, and that this does not reflect on all other locations - as a matter of fact, I do recommend the Midas shops located on Lee Hwy in Arlington, and the one on Glebe Rd in Alexandria - however, I found this shop to be incompetent, and, more importantly, shockingly dishonest. They do not deserve the ASE certification, of which I informed the ASE as well. read more

The staff is really friendly. Tim seems like a great guy. However, I had a coupon for an oil change and tire rotation for $19.95, and they asked me if I had wanted to get my tires rotated for free in which I replied yes and they did not rotate them. Not sure if it was because it was Sunday afternoon and they were a little busy or what. My steering wheel was also left greasy because of the mechanics gloves; not a big deal but would have been nice to wipe down. Overall, customer service is great, not the fastest, but decent establishment. read more

Front office staff is nice but they don't seem to listen. I purchased two rear tires for my BMW and brought them by to have Midas install them. Luckily I could see the car from the waiting area because the tech tried to put rear tires on the front rims which are completely different sizes. Wouldn't recommend using this place, they don't see to have things together. read more

The worst service center in the USA. While driving to Washington DC from Michigan, my car's exhaust pipe got leakage and started making giant noise. My wife got scared and so I had to go to this center to fix this problem. But the manager (Mr. Adam) after looking at our situation (Long weekend, Friday evening, family and kids on vacation) took the advantage and asked me to pay $400 to put a custom exhaust pipe to fix this problem. I had no choice but to think about safety of my Family and kids, so paid $400. They replaced rusted exhaust pipe along with resonator but still the noise was not gone. I drove back to Michigan and again spend $165 to fix the problem. I keep following up with this center to do a partial refund because they did not fix the problem. After couple weeks of follow up I gave up. This center broke my trust about Midas. I will never take my car to any Midas center. read more

This location reopened in June 2015 with new management and new staff. I found the place by accident, during their very first week. The manager came out, introduced himself to me, and personally promised that he would fix my problem quickly and for a great price. I showed up the next day at the time he suggested, and he 100% lived up to his promises. The car was actually ready earlier than he originally estimated. When we went down the street to get coffee, the office manager called us on the phone to let us know the car was ready. The office staff was incredibly friendly and helpful... even helped amuse my three-month-old while we waited. (: I knew I also needed one new tire. The mechanics checked my other three tires and told me I DID NOT NEED to replace them. So, bonus points for valuing honesty over profit. The business is still new and still working out some kinks (voicemail not working right... office chairs in the waiting area instead of couches or comfortable seating... no changing table in the bathroom...) but I will definitely be back. I'm grateful for car repair people who seem like they actually care about helping customers and who I feel I can trust, even though I know nothing about cars. read more

We paid over $3,000 to have some electronic modules re-programmed in our Dodge van after it shut down. A week or two later, it shut down the same way again. The folks at Midas said it needed an additional $1,000+ of electrical work. They gave it back to us with dashboard lights activated, and ABS warning beeping, and said to drive it because they might just go away. Upon taking the van to the dealer, we found Midas had left an open circuit on the brake booster. The entire process took months, over which Midas declined to prioritize our work, failed to fix the issues, and dismissed our concerns. read more

I visited the Midas at 1620 Rhode Island Ave location in NE DC. My intent was to find out what the noise was under my right passenger side of the car. The owner of the shop, Mr. Alistaire drove the car, identified the noise, and proceeded to put the car on the lift. Once on the lift the culprit was a disengaged brake plate. The story gets better. Mr. Alistaire noticed immediately that the gear box had been leaking oil and upon further investigation, it had less than a quart of oil. Mr. Alistaire's observation saved me at least $2,000.00 (the cost of a rear end). He had his techs make the repair to the brake plate and the leaking rear-end and the cost was very reasonable. I am very pleased with this shop and I will now be a recurring customer for all of my maintenance issues. Thank you again! read more

If there was a zero star option I would give it to this place. I went in and told them my brakes were grinding. They told me I had to pay 13 for an inspection for them to tell me what is wrong. This was the first time I have been asked to pay to tell me what is wrong. I can afford the 13 but it is the principal of it. I said, can i go to another mechanic, find out what is wrong and come back with the results. He said i would still need to pay the 13. His handsomeness almost made me stay but needless to say, I left. read more

Second time through this place - first time was a regular un-noteable experience. Took my car in for a tire rotation and oil change and noted at intake that tire pressure was low in one tire but because I was coming in, I'd like them to fill and check all of the tires. They said of course. Picked up my car and began to drive away noticing the low pressure light was still on - make the point of driving back and going back in to tell them and they said because the tired were rotated it would take a few miles to calibrate and turn off. Not true. They never filled the tired - in fact, all 4 of my tires were 5-7 lbs under recommended pressure, which leads me to think they were just being lazy and in fact didn't check any of them. I probably would not have thought twice about posting a review, but the fact that I went back in and specifically asked and they didn't even offer to check is annoying. DO NOT take your car here for service unless you want to be ripped off! Brought my car in for a nail in my tire. They claimed it couldn't be patched and that I need to order a new tire. They also claimed that the tire was discontinued and they could only order the newer version. This turned out to be a lie after finding my tire on the Bridgestone website. The tire cost $230. The tire they ordered me was said to cost $395 plus labor. So I ended paying a little under $500 for the service. Complete ripoff and I was taken advantage of. Also terrible customer service. I had an appointment for 1pm and had planned my workday around the appointment. Luckily I called at noon to check if my tire had been delivered. It hadn't but nobody contacted me. It arrived at 1pm and I was on my way when they called and said they couldn't see me until 4pm. Why do they even schedule appointments if they can't meet them?!? I don't know why this place has such bad reviews. I needed a new muffler and shopped around and this place gave me the best price by far. The staff was professional and even helped me find a coupon to lower the price further by $30. They were able to order the part and replace my muffler all within 2 hours! I am giving this place 5 stars and would definitely trust them with any other maintenance needed for my car! read more

This has been the WORST experience I have ever had getting a simple oil change. I made a appointment for my sister and I to get our oil changed. Our appointments were for 11:00 and 11:30 today. (2/24/2018) When we arrived at 10:45, I informed the service writer that we had 11 and 11:30 appointments. I handed the service writer a coupon for a 19.99 oil change to include a tire rotation. Meanwhile another service writer came and I gave him my sisters information because she had never been there before, I handed him the same coupon. We signed our paper work and the service writer took our paperwork into the shop. 15 minutes later, a young Caucasian lady came to get her oil changed and said she had a 11:00 appointment and needed to have her car out soon as possible because she had something to do at 1:00. The service writer was flirting with her and assured her that her car would be ready by then. He then takes her paperwork inside the shop and comes back. This young lady's car was done in 30. I then questioned the service writer on do they prioritize appointments and could he tell me what rotation was my sister and I were in. He walked into the shop, cane back and never answered. The technician came and got my sisters car right after that. 12:30 my car still sits but they are now under the hood of a young man who came in with a baby and he's like "oh wow, there working on my car already. I then asked to talk to the Manager. Shane T Griffin was trying to explain that it all depended on the job the tech had. The tech could be working on an 8hr job or a 15 min job. I asked, why would you give a simple oil change to a tech that has an 8hr job instead of a 15 min job? That makes no since to me. I asked for the owner's name and number and was told that he was not going to give out that information. I asked when will the owner return to the shop so I could talk with him, Shane T Griffin said "you can talk to whoever you want to talk to" 1:00 they finally take my car in for the oil change. They then come back to me and say " the technician said he told me last time he couldn't change the oil because the drain plug was striped." No such thing has ever happened and every time I've had my oil changed its been at MIDAS. Shane T Griffin tells me I have to buy a drain plug because there is a blue dot on it and that means someone else changed my oil. All BULL!! If my last oil change was with Midas on 10/28/2017 and I'm getting an oil change today 2/24/2018, what are they trying to say, I get an oil change half way in-between changes? And if the drain plug is stripped, THEY DID IT!! Midas DID NOT want to take the responsibility for their mess up. I WILL NEVER GO TO THE MIDAS ON RHODEISLAND AVE DC!! I will tell everyone I know not to go there if they want good customer service, a manager who is will to act like he cares, notice I said ACT, about customers. Also, I went to the shop to get the last oil change paper out of my car only to see the clip board flying across the floor where he flung it. My sister never got the tire rotation... So a 19.99 oil change turned into 32. and some change. NEVER AGAIN!! read more

I'm convinced these mechanics can fix anything because they've got ideas;. they can weld any repair you need and they do it well. Their competency standards were above and beyond my expectations. The mechanics were super friendly, great customer service. I received help immediately upon entering, and the person helping me was really nice and clear about what my car needed. I watched the mechanics' interactions with the other customer sitting next to me, and they were also very respectful, patient, and helpful. DO NOT go to this place. These people are a bunch of crooks who do not know what they are doing. I had my brakes done at this location in September 2013. They were making a noise that I didn't have before I and didn't even make it home before I turned back around. They told me the brakes needed to "fuse" because the pads were new. In January, my brakes started squeaking. I finally went back and it turns out they installed the brake pads incorrectly which caused my rotor to become damaged and they did not want to acknowledge any wrong doing or even try to fix the problem, but wanted to blame it all on the dealer. I have only had the car for a year and its a certified car and they were the only ones that touched the brakes since I got it. I had to replace both rotors and brakes at the dealer. They cannot be trusted, they have bad attitudes and they try to create more problems and they could care less. read more

Put the wrong size tires on my work vehicle, charged me a real hefty price, didn't finish the work order, failed to tell me I shouldn't drive my vehicle(work vehicle) because tires didn't fit then tried to send me to Alexandria. Took vehicle to another mechanic and they tell me Midas shouldn't have let me drive the vehicle with those tires, tires could have exploded and caused bodily injury.
