I want to thank Ethan, the service manager, for taking the time out of his busy day to personally call me and explain the company's position regarding my review. I appreciate the effort to clarify the misunderstanding. According to Ethan, the business does not require payment upfront. Instead, the text we received was a pre-approval link meant to inform us of the potential cost following a diagnostic. Unfortunately, this wasn't clearly communicated during my original call with Lou. If he had mentioned that we'd receive a text requiring approval before any work could be done--and that payment would only be due after the diagnostic--I would not have left a one-star review. From a customer's perspective, receiving a $200+ link without prior explanation understandably creates the impression that payment is required in advance. This was a clear miscommunication, and I'm willing to chalk it up as such. That said, I strongly recommend the business makes this process more transparent in future calls. Customers should be clearly told: 1. They will receive a text with a pre-approval link. 2. No payment is due until after the diagnostic is complete. In today's climate, transparency is critical, and many customers--like myself--may feel uneasy approving charges before their vehicle has even been seen. While I still haven't had any work done here, I want to be fair. Ethan's call helped clarify the process, and for that reason, I'm updating my rating from 1 star to 3 stars. My intention has never been to tarnish this business--only to share my honest experience. I hope this feedback helps them improve communication with future customers and avoid similar misunderstandings. Thank you again.

My wife's car was acting up after I had brought it to a local shop to have a transmission flush on…read moreit. When I brought it home, I noticed that it was overfilled. So after getting home, I went ahead and drained 2 quarts overfilled. Obviously this was concerning to me considering that I had brought it to what I thought was a reputable shop and they didn't do it correctly. Shortly after draining the overfilled transmission and checking the level, my wife started telling me that the car would flash it's neutral light and free rev without moving. This was upsetting considering that I had just "serviced" the vehicle. Here's where Mike comes in... I did some research and found Suburban Transmissions. I was browsing their website and was completely surprised at how honest they were on their webpage. They were giving away what most shops would probably consider "trade secrets"! I called Suburban and Mike spent 30 minutes talking to me about the history of the transmission, some known issues, and things I could do to troubleshoot the transmission. The way Mike talked about the transmission, I could have sworn that he designed it! My conversation with him floored me since he took time out of his busy day to help me out and was giving me some ideas of things to check for (potentially resulting in me fixing it and not doing business with him). I felt completely comfortable with sending my car to Suburban and that they would not rip me off. Mike repeatedly stated that he's not a parts guy and that he wants to properly diagnose the car rather than throw parts at it to fix it or just sell a new transmission. Mike answered every call. He answered every question. Mike even held the car an extra day to double check the transmission after I told him a symptom that he thought was anomalous. Mike even offered to use what I paid for my repair towards future repairs if my wife's car continued to have problems! Most shops would probably make you pay full price without considering their previous work! I feel that more shops should follow Mike's lead in working with the customer, talking to them as a peer, taking the time to listen to the customer's concern and make sure that the diagnosis is correct, and to not take the shotgun approach of just throwing parts at the car. Working with Mike was such a pleasant experience that it almost makes me wish that I had some other transmission woes. Transmission issues tend to be a huge cause of stress, but Mike is like a guide helping you through the process and helping you take on the burden. Great job, great customer service, great people.

Notice how the good reviews are over a year old, it's from the old owners who were honest. The new guys are scammers and tried to sell me completely unnecessary work on my transmission. I took it to another shop in Laurel and it was fixed in 2 days. These guys wanted to rebuild the transmission. They also charge a diagnostic fee of $165. Other transmission shops will scan the codes for free. My advice is go to North Laurel Transmission right down the street. They will diagnose your transmission for free and won't sell you a fluid service when the transmission has a code for a sensor that needs replacing.

They both are extremely personable and customer service oriented - Jesse kept me updated daily while my car was being evaluated, and they both took time to explain what was going on in a way that was easy to understand. I like that they take pictures of everything and provide a full report of what's going on - it is very helpful. One thing to note is that I did pay $170 to evaluate what was going on with my check engine light, which seemed a little high but I don't have much locally to compare it to so it's hard to say if that's unusual. Just something to be aware of if you want to bring your car in for that, I guess. Anyway, between the good customer service and the proximity to my house, I am sure I will be a long term customer.

When I explained that a lifetime warranty on the part and service should cover the inspection to verify the failure, she refused to discuss the matter. I came here almost 3 years ago, and I've honestly been putting off writing this review because I…read morereally don't like giving bad reviews. But I finally decided to share my experience because I think it's important to warn future customers, especially those who don't have a lot of extra money to spare. The good: There's a shuttle service for customers, which is convenient. The driver was very cheerful and interested in having conversations with customers, which made the ride interesting. The staff members were polite, and the lobby has free coffee for customers. The terrible: I chose this place for my car inspection because of the positive ratings on Yelp and Google. But alas, the mechanic who inspected my car quoted me $1k+ for a part that was actually in perfect condition and failed my inspection. When I asked where the leak was, the rep said the part was shiny, and that indicated a leak. A few days later, a family member who is a mechanic inspected the part and confirmed that it was, in fact, in perfect condition. So he took my car back to this place for a re-inspection. When questioned, the reps couldn't point out a single leak on that part, and they passed him. Folks, please be careful, especially if you're a woman or someone who doesn't know much about cars. Based on my experience, I felt like I was being taken advantage of. My advice: Question every part they claim has failed, leaked, or broken. Heck, ask them to walk you over and show you exactly where the part has "failed." If you're familiar with car mechanics and have the tools, inspect your car thoroughly beforehand so you know the condition of your car before handing it over for an inspection. And if you don't know much about cars, bring a friend or family member who does. Having someone knowledgeable with you can help you ask questions and better understand what the mechanic is telling you. I'm honestly very disappointed with BA Auto. I went in expecting an honest inspection, and this experience left me questioning their integrity. I'm finally posting this after almost 3 years because I hope it helps someone else avoid a similar experience.
