So when my local mechanic couldn't fix an issue that cropped up with my car in September, I went out of my way to bring my car from NW to Auto Tech's Trinidad shop. My car had a P1454 check engine light (fuel tank pressure sensor/EVAP system issue). Auto Tech did a diagnostic and recommended replacing the sensor for $519. They said they weren't completely sure it would fix the problem, but they warned me that if I took the car to a dealer, the dealer would want to replace the full EVAP system for at least $2,000. I trusted Auto Tech's advice and authorized the $519 repair, but the check engine light came back on the next day. Auto Tech then advised I replace the rest of the EVAP system, quoting me over $1,500 just for the parts. I decided to get a second opinion from the dealer anyway. For a $195 diagnostic fee, the dealer identified a clogged fuel vent tube, cleaned it out, and fixed the problem. This tube is attached to the same fuel tank pressor sensor Auto Tech replaced -- meaning that Auto Tech never took the time to check for a blockage in the immediate vicinity of the part they replaced. When I called Auto Tech to provide this feedback and express my disappointment with the misdiagnosis, they blew me off. They insisted they had been right all along, offered an obviously insincere apology, and hurriedly got off the phone. I am deeply disappointed with Auto Tech and can no longer recommend them due to their failure to properly diagnose this issue, bad advice about how much a dealership would have charged, and dismissal of my feedback.

Cons They had my car for 24 hours and i had to call them to ask for updates. They gave me 8k estimate for a full scope of work that was needed. Would not have been an issue but they parked my car on the street where it received a ticket. When i mentioned the ticket they collected it and said they were going to pay it. A month goes by and the ticket has not been paid and it doubled. I didn't follow back up before the month went by because my dad passed 10 days later so it was not on my mind. When i called the shop to explain about the ticket they said they don't usually pay this kind of parking ticket. Lol after it doubled they conveniently do not pay this type. All of this could have been avoided had they looked at the ticket type and called me to notify me. They will never get anymore business from me. Sad because all they had to do was call the customer. Amended 5/6 The GM Mike called me to rectify the situation. He listened to me and apologized for the level of customer service I received. They only charged me for 1/2 an hour of work, $80, even though two different mechanics had looked at it multiple times to try to identify a slight rattling noise. They said it is not a safety issue, they will look again the next time I get an oil change, and if it gets worse they will be able to identify and fix it but as it isn't a safety issue they don't want me to put money in it unnecessarily at this time. They did let me know of some repairs I will need in the next year. I never feel like anyone there talks to me differently or charges me differently for being a woman, which is a stereotype you hear about mechanics (though honestly I've dealt with that more with HVAC techs, but I digress). When I dropped my car off on a thursday evening for a friday appointment, Rich called me back an hour later just to let me know he had looked at it already and didn't think it was anything to be concerned about but would do more work in the morning, which i really appreciated. When I was leaving after picking up my car I spoke to a woman who had been going here for, I think 15 years and said Rich takes great care of her antique car. The only other thing I'll add is the store has stickers on the door in support of gay rights and BLM, which you just don't see at mechanic shops, and I feel good about supporting a shop that supports my values. Got the car back literally sparkling inside and out and they made tremendous improvement with the paint - and they were even able to re-clip the front bumper skirt that had gotten snagged and pulled out of place years ago! Steven kindly offered to try an additional product on some of the spots of missing paint which I'll be taking the car back for. Pricing was great and they were FAST; car was in at 7am and done by 2pm (the last time I took my car in for interior detailing at a chain company, they took nearly 3 days!)
