First of all, let me just ask: Why is it so difficult to find a good mechanic? I've been to Auto Tech before and loved their personalized service, but since then I've moved to Baltimore. I tried another mechanic for my Honda Civic, but it just wasn't the service I wanted or expected. So, fast forward to an issue with my window. Long story short, I had it replaced by a certain well-known company, and three months later it wouldn't roll all the way up. They came back out to honor the lifetime warranty only to tell me it was the regulator. IMO they/he was responsible for breaking the regulator, as there was no problem with the window until it was replaced. There was definitely a nexus. But I digress. Instead of having to search for another mechanic in Baltimore, I just returned to what I already knew was good--Auto Tech. Todd and family are very personable and make you feel like you're at home. They're not trying to cheat you out of your hard-earned money by making up things that need to be repaired. If there's an issue, they'll lay out your options and let you choose which route you'd like to take. Again, I'm in Baltimore. But that's not a problem, as their waiting area is superb. You'll find the Wi-Fi code right there where you can see it. At one point Todd came out and said I could change the channel if I wanted to. They've got a nice coffee machine, snacks, and leather chairs that are as comfortable as the ones I have at home. My AC was also running warm so they checked that and topped it off. I also had them check my brakes. And they quickly repaired my window. The price was very reasonable. So, I'll just have to keep coming back to Bowie to have my Honda Civic serviced. Others have said it before, but this is the BEST place I have found in the greater DC area, including going out into the VA burbs. They were so upfront and easy to deal with in terms of getting quotes for services and their prices were very fair. Everyone was very friendly and attentive on site and they were efficient despite having at least a 10 person line already in front of me at 7:20 am before they opened. At pickup, they took the time to show me where and what they worked on under the hood. They were very generous in helping me out with additional things they did not charge for. Luis and Miguel are amazing. They are friendly, extremely professional and honest. They will breakdown the issue with the car, then tell you the cost which is way less than the dealer. Money is tight these days and they recognize it. They will tell the truth if the car needs to be fixed immediately or if it can wait days/months. I went to ATS this morning to have them check out a burning smell in my engine. They whisked me in, put my car on the lift and five minutes later told me that someone (cough, cough: Jiffy Lube in S Arlington) had spilled a lot of oil in the engine compartment, even showed me all the stains. When I pulled out my wallet to pay, they told me it was no charge -- even though it had taken 10 minutes of their time. Miguel gave me a free estimate on a suspension issue (control and sway bar link change) due to wear and tear at 90k miles. The cost was significantly less than a neighboring reputable car shop (which quoted me close to $3k). Miguel showed me the cost of parts and labor, which I found to be extremely fair and affordable. I appreciated his honesty when I prodded further where they got their parts (a local reputable distributor), while the other competitor wouldn't tell me their distributor. I am so glad that I found this car shop thanks to Yelp and Google reviews. It's a relief to have a mechanic who you can trust in the area. Dishonest place. Took my vehicle in for a state inspection and they failed it for a whole bunch of things that are not even wrong with the vehicle. I guess they needed some money. I will never take my vehicle back there again, nor recommend anyone else that doesn't feel like being ripped off. This place is the best. I had a random situation where my vehicle started steaming. I had the vehicle towed there and they charge no fee to diagnose the vehicle. They were able to diagnose and fix the vehicle within 36 hours. Since then I have taken my car 3 times and consistently have great service and incredibly quick service which is unheard of. These are some of the most honest mechanics I've ever met in my life. When it's an issue, they do all they can to find a solution. Luis and Miguel are rare. Even their younger counterpart Julio is amazing. They are fair, flexible and honest! I would give them 4 and 1/2 stars. Only because we've have them service quite a few vehicles ( Nissan, Honda, Corvette, Audi, Buick) and sometimes we've had to come back, have had vehicles towed back (at our expense:() because work wasn't done properly. Each time Auto Tech handled the situation with professionalism and took accountability but I was bothered because they did not go "the extra mile" especially when the error was on their end. The team was thorough and found an issue with my brake pads but didn't pressure me into addressing it right away and gave their assessment of how much longer I could wait to address it. They give you the parts/labor breakdown up front; and if more items need to be fixed than you initially thought, they let you know tell you the options and the prices, and don't force an up sell. I particularly like that if a service takes minimal extra work they don't charge you for it. Recently had my brakes done and wanted an oil change and tire rotation as well. They easily could have added $20 on for the tire rotation, but told me it was free since the tires already had to come off. read more

There's a reason Auto Tech is so highly reviewed. I've had many experiences with dealerships, service centers, and other mechanics that range from inappropriate to downright awful for one reason or another. Auto Tech is like a breath of fresh air, particularly as a woman who tends to get the worst of the worst when taking a car in for repairs. More than once, I've gone to a dealership to service my car, only to be told I need to spend an egregious amount of money on repairs. After that, I've brought the car to Auto Tech who has taken a look (without an obscene "diagnostic fee") and given me a straight answer on what needs to be fixed and how much it costs. They never try to upsell me, and in fact, they clearly try their best to make sure you're not spending any money unnecessarily. In my most recent experience, I got a car from a family member that had an oil pressure warning. I took my family member's advice to go to the dealer, thinking that the dealership should be the expert on the model of the car anyway. In the end after doing a transmission fluid and oil change, and having my car for over a week, they gave me a quote for over $4,000 of additional repairs and a constantly changing story about what the issue was and why those repairs would actually fix it. I declined the additional service at the dealer, picked up the car, and drove it to Auto Tech right away. Luis took 10 minutes to look at it immediately and tell me what the situation was. Their recommendation was that I didn't actually need any immediate repairs, but I should take it back in a month to make sure that no oil was lost. If I brought the car to Auto Tech in the first place, I probably would've saved myself over a week of hassle and a good bit of money to boot. Next time, that's definitely what I'll do. read more

I have relied on Auto Tech's Service for more than 10 years. The owners are honest, dependable and charge a fair price for their work unlike your local dealership. I've gotten annual tuneups and have also replaced my catalytic converter. One time, my car battery died in my garage. Fortunately, the owner answered my distress call, then came to my location and determined the problem. After he charged my battery, I was off to work. Each time I've needed professional, reliable and reasonably priced service, I've come here. I get my oil changed, brakes and other preventative maintenance work done here. But when there's an unexpected problem, they also come through for me. I usually call them, drop my car off first thing in the morning. I knew going in the back tires needed replacement, but they tried to sell me on "all four need to be replaced!!" and pointed normal mechanical/road wear on the front tires that are barely 11 months old. I assume they sell a lot of "upgrades" and tires to female customers who don't know to challenge their assessment. I had an old ass '97 Volvo that they would do minor repairs on with low to no charge, and when it finally came time for Vlad the Volvo to kick the dust did Autotech try to convince me to spend thousands to fix him? No, they told me the brutal truth: it's time to let Vlad go. Now I have Gloria, a 2011 RAV4-went to an auto shop in my hood thinking that's easier right? Wrong! He wanted $3500 for a number of things that made me scared to even drive ("your breaks are about to give out"). I then decided to seek the truth and go to Autotech and guess what? My first time using an auto repair service in DC and I was quite concerned that I might be overcharged for a small issue. I am also going on a long road trip next week and wanted to make sure all my fluids were topped. Additionally, my front bumper had come loose and needed to be popped back into place. So, with trepidation I dropped my (foreign) car off yesterday. The gentleman that received me was direct "we probably won't be able to get to to it today, but can get to it tomorrow." Today, I received a call that it was finished. The pick up was very quick and easy. I was in and out in 3 minutes. The mechanic told me that my fluids were all at proper levels and didn't require a change. They popped my bumper back in without additional charge. I was charged a reasonable amount for the parts received and only billed one hour of labor for a very reasonable $45. Overall, I was extremely pleased that I found an efficient, and honest, mechanic at a good price--and in Washington DC! Hopefully, I won't require a mechanic for a while, but I certainly plan on going back. read more

Honest, trustworthy, and reliable shop with fast turnaround and no upselling. I was having battery issues and most shops (incl the dealership) instantly jumped to the conclusion that the battery needed to be replaced. These folks hooked up the battery to the reader and measured output, showed me the results, and concluded that the battery was weak. They asked how old the battery was in case there was an outstanding warranty that I could claim. Only then did they offer to install a new battery. And their labor charges are about half of what other shops charge. I will be going back for all my automotive needs. read more
