Based on my initial visit, I would give this business a 5 star rating. However, after my encounter with David today (the first time he was extremely professional, taking time to explain why the tires on our vehicle were work on the interior of the tire). Today, the Internet was down and they couldn't accept credit cards and we would have to go to a bank to get cash. Understood. However, in telling us that (after they had already began working on our vehicle), my husband advised him that they had already taken the tires off his car, so he would go get the cash once they finished. David hollered, "I don't know you!" I'm not letting you leave. So Alandis says, "Well, I can leave my credit card so you know I'm not running off!" David, in a very disrespectful tone, said "I don't know you. You aren't a regular customer." Mind you, this was our third time at this place since last weekend. And because of the conversation we had previously, I said "I will stay here while he runs to the bank, no worries!" He said "oh no you want! I don't know you either." I said "David, we were just here last weekend..."and he cut me of and said "I don't remember." As I tried to jog his memory (our conversation was unique) but he cut me off and said "you think your tough but you ain't gonna overpower me!" Shocked at his response, I said I wasn't trying to overpower him, I was trying to explain our conversation." He walked off and said "Oh, you just want to argue," then went into the back and walking to others about me as if I wasn't there." When he came back up, I said "If you have something to say, you can say it to me." Gary, his brother, offered to take Alandis to the bank (which was 2 blocks away). When it was time to pay, I said to David that I was trying to share something with him. Once he stopped to listen to what I was saying, he apologized. Once I jogged his memory of our conversation, he apologized again. My point was, how he handled that situation was all wrong. What he should have said was "Mr. Customer, I apologize but our internet is down and unfortunately, we can't accept cards at this time. There is a bank a couple of blocks from here. If you can, please go and get cash or if you need a ride, we can have someone take you." Instead, he was loud, boisterous and dismissive. Once he HEARD me, he understood and apologized again. As I said to him, "your customer is the lifeline. Without the customer, your business will cease, so you can't treat your customer any type of way." He agreed. read more

Right before making our way back to NYC, we saw one of my brand new tires had a bump on the side wall. We called Action Al since I researched they sold the manufacturer of my tires. We got on the phone with Dave. They didn't have the specific brand of tire I needed (since I was still within warranty) but he was super helpful in next steps and referred us to someone else. After an hour of calling other shops in search for the brand of tire I needed, we realized we were out of luck. So I'm new to town and I blew out my tire on these rough DC roads. I called a roadside service late at night and they were not able to change my tire because my lug (I think it's called lol) it was stripped, so it required an alternate way to be removed to change the tire. I noticed this morning that I had a flat, so I put some air in the tire and went to the BP down the street to get the spare put on. The mechanic at BP said I would need a new tire and after a few phone calls, Action Al's was recommended. It's so easy to get taken advantage of when it comes to car problems, so I'm always afraid of that. And strangely, a lot of the time, bigger car repair companies act as if you're an inconvenience. When I called Action Al's, they were super friendly right off the bat. David said I could come right away, and they would work within my budget. When I arrived, Gary said he would see if they could fix the flat first, and I appreciated that they weren't trying to sell me the most expensive thing possible. After determining that the tire was too messed up to be repaired, and after inspecting the rest of my car, Gary said that since my other three tires were in good condition, I would be fine just replacing the flat tire with a used tire whose tread was about the same as the other three. The price was very reasonable and I was safely back on the road in less than an hour. Really happy that Action Al's was recommended to me! read more

To say that these guys are personable is a gross understatement. I had to wait around one hour (very normal) to have 4 tires replaced on my 20 year old E320 Mercedes but was warmly welcomed and very entertained by the members of this tight knit Italian American family, so that the wait time passed rapidly. They started up in 1962 and Al the patriarch was still working there at 90 years old! Price was very reasonable ( I called around in advance to compare prices) and the customer service was quite exemplary. Three years ago was my first time at Action Al's with my old car! That car had 14" tires! This time, I was back with my newer car with 17" tires! My uncle who helped me order the tires from Action Al's was with me this time! My tires were ordered weeks before and came in earlier in the week! We went in on a Saturday morning, they open at 8am! We got there about 10 minutes before 8, but they were open and took my car in! I was out of there before 8:30am! I cannot say how much I appreciate this family owned business! I can't begin to say enough good things about the Action Al's team after my visit today to replace a flat tire. From the time I called and David picked up the phone til I drove off their lot with a new tire I really felt cared for and treated like I was important. David and the Action Al's team found a new tire the size and spec I needed at a price of a used tire elsewhere. I mentioned that I would have to tow my car to their shop and if I did not already have AAA on top of it, David said he would've sent his own towing contact to come get me because he knows how hard it can be to get a tow when you don't have roadside assistance. During my time at the shop the service was quick, friendly and professional. I was warmly greeted when I arrived and had multiple team members ask if I was being helped throughout my stay. The cherry on top of all this great service came when I asked that a second tire be checked for a slow leak which they found and patched at no additional charge! Action Al's is great! I went in to address a slow leak in one of my tires on a Friday afternoon. You pull through the side of the building to the back (follow the signs), tell an employee the problem you're having, and sit in your car while they get to work. Within a half hour they'd found the leak, patched my tire, re-attached it, and had me on my way-- all for under $30. Plus, the folks inside, where you go to pay, are super friendly. I'd add that, with respect to the pandemic, they were all wearing masks and gloves, and had hand sanitizer available. If you think you can go search online or elsewhere in the DMV to find specialty tires at a good price....you might as well not waste your time. Been there; done that. It will take days....to weeks....to get them and the prices will be inflated due to shipping. Action Al will most likely be able to get what you need and for an exceptional price compared to other tire stores; based on my experience. Here's where you know you have found a trustworthy business. Just my luck, I got a flat over the weekend on a brand new tire....that was not even a week old!! As soon as I arrived to get the tire replaced, the technicians looked over my original tire and determined it could be patched and repaired instead of buying the new tire altogether. Action Al's tires was recommended to me by another car joint that I called after busting my tire out last night - a Friday evening during an insane heat wave, worst end-of-week adventure ever! We were riding on a temp tire, and since I live in DC and work in NoVa, we wanted to get the tire fixed before the Monday morning commute. I called a few places (based on Yelp recs, of course!), several of which aren't open on the weekends. One that was actually open on Saturdays said they'd have to order the tire and could have it done on Monday. When I hesitated, they said if I wanted it done today, "Call Action Al's - they have everything". Excellent call, other guys! Action Al's was open, stocked our non-common tires (just 1!) and told us to come on by - literally, the woman on the phone, when I asked if we needed an appointment, replied, "Nope - we're open now, come on!" They set us up right away. We were in and out in under an hour. All the guys we met were knowledgeable and friendly. The current owner's father was the original Action Al. They have a huge selection of tires on site, a fun wall of local celebs (Chuck Brown got tires there), and a shy cat who apparently doesn't hang with customers but deigned to come in because it's a bit cooler inside and the dog wasn't in that day. She got ensnared by my partner, the cat whisperer, and stayed for a bunch of snuggles, causing the woman behind the counter to comment repeatedly on how amazing it was. They were working pretty hard to make sure everyone got what they needed - Stefan (the cat whisperer) and the owner had an in-depth conversation about lug nuts, bolt threading, and wrenches. We like to stretch out our tires. And by "stretching" - I mean we will be driving down the beltway and every slightly out of norm bump or sound puts a fear in us that the tire may have just popped and gone flat during rush hour and we'd be "those idiots" that started the traffic. So when it was finally time to give up and replace the tires - a solid 6 months after the dealership told us it was time, I proudly add - we called around to 10+ places to make sure that we were not only getting the best deal but also quality tires. Action Al's was the winner. They were better then Costco, Walmart, other yelped about recs in the area, and even better than Fort Belvoir and Quantico (even with it being tax free on the military bases). We ended up with a high quality 80K mile tire, while saving about $75 compared to the next cheapest quote. Additionally, they offer military discount and quick service. One star off for not offering alignment at the same location. While they set it up for you and it's very close, it would've been nice to be able to do it all in one place. read more

One star off because I expected to come in, order and get my tires put on but instead I came in ordered, and my order was not passed down to the staff for a good 15mins while the owner fielded other calls and in bantered around with staff. She gave me a price (that beat everyone else I had called and googled ), was super nice (I wasn't in the best mood), and told me to "come on down." What an awesome family business. They always take care of me. In the last few months, I can came in & purchased 4 new Michelin tires,which are pretty expensive. Less than 6 months later, I must have hit something on the side of the road leaving a huge slit in my brand new tire. Dave was so helpful that he called & got me a much cheaper Goodwill tire.
