I initially thought it might just be an aging coolant issue, but I didn't want to keep driving it and risk turning a cooling-system problem into an engine problem. Their technicians inspected the heating and coolant system rather than simply topping off the reservoir and sending me home. They found that the coolant level was low and traced the issue to a leak that needed attention. They also checked the hoses and other components of the cooling system and explained what they found before doing the repair. I appreciated that because I wanted to understand why the temperature had been fluctuating instead of just being handed a repair bill. While they had the vehicle, they also checked the heater operation because I'd noticed that the cabin heat wasn't getting as warm as it normally did. The technician explained how the coolant system affects both engine temperature and the vehicle's heating system, which helped everything make much more sense. After the repair and coolant service, the temperature gauge stayed exactly where it should during both stop-and-go D.C. traffic and longer drives. The heater also returned to normal operation. I love that they didn't immediately recommend replacing expensive parts. They inspected the system, identified the actual problem, explained the repair, and then verified that everything was operating properly afterward. That's exactly the kind of approach I want from an auto repair shop. Plus, everyone was professional throughout the visit, and the technicians clearly knew what they were doing - very reassuring!

Cons They had my car for 24 hours and i had to call them to ask for updates. They gave me 8k estimate for a full scope of work that was needed. I declined all but what my car got towed for and 3 new tires. That total cost was $1500 When my car was ready they called me 15 mins before closing so i could not get my car until the following day. Would not have been an issue but they parked my car on the street where it received a ticket. When i mentioned the ticket they collected it and said they were going to pay it. A month goes by and the ticket has not been paid and it doubled. I didn't follow back up before the month went by because my dad passed 10 days later so it was not on my mind. When i called the shop to explain about the ticket they said they don't usually pay this kind of parking ticket. Lol after it doubled they conveniently do not pay this type. All of this could have been avoided had they looked at the ticket type and called me to notify me. They will never get anymore business from me. Sad because all they had to do was call the customer. Amended 5/6 The GM Mike called me to rectify the situation. He listened to me and apologized for the level of customer service I received. Being that this location is in DC and has a small lot they easily run into issues with ticketing. He made sure the ticket was paid within an hour of our call. I appreciate small businesses and ones that make it right with their customers.

Cool I paid it. Came and picked my car up when it was ready. 10 minutes after leaving the shop lo and behold same problems car smoking and now it's overheating. I call them to let them know I was told to bring it back I told them driving on an overheating car was one not safe and two can mess my car up. I told them I was upset because the problem wasn't fixed and they assured me it was. I asked them to tow it because it was their screw up. I drove the car back there took me me 2 hours because I had to keep stopping so the car cools after and don't overheat. One there they looked under the hood and their still a leak and all the coolant they just put in was gone. Not to mention they admitting to forgetting to the do the bleeding so their was air still flowing through my transmission and engine. So one again they claim to have fixed it and the check engine light and everything went off and it was safe to come back and get it. Here we are again my check engine light is one and I call and speak with Mohammad and letty. They once again said I'm responsible for getting my car there how ? When it won't drive. I told them my fluids was checked the oil was empty and so was my transmission fluid. I told him I didn't feel comfortable bringing my car back and I wanted a refund for the oil change because clearly it ain't happen . I didn't have a spare tire at the time, so I went to Tenleytown Automotive in Washington, DC, to see if they could help. As soon as I arrived, Alex came out, asked what was going on, and had my car checked. Unfortunately, they didn't have the specific tire size I needed. Instead of simply turning me away, they allowed me to leave my car there while I went to purchase the correct tire and assured me they would put it on when I returned. When I came back, they had the tire installed in about 15 minutes. Even more impressively, they were kind enough to allow my windshield replacement technician to come to their location and repair my windshield at the same time. Everything came together so smoothly, and within about 20 minutes, both my tire and windshield were taken care of. Phil also came out, introduced himself, and made sure everything was taken care of. I truly appreciate the entire team for finding a solution when they could have easily turned me away because they didn't have my tire size. Their willingness to help made a stressful situation so much easier. Everyone was professional, kind, patient, and knowledgeable. I'm extremely grateful for their understanding, their time, and their willingness to help me when I really needed it. I highly recommend Tenleytown Automotive. Five stars all around! So when my local mechanic couldn't fix an issue that cropped up with my car in September, I went out of my way to bring my car from NW to Auto Tech's Trinidad shop. My car had a P1454 check engine light (fuel tank pressure sensor/EVAP system issue). Auto Tech did a diagnostic and recommended replacing the sensor for $519. They said they weren't completely sure it would fix the problem, but they warned me that if I took the car to a dealer, the dealer would want to replace the full EVAP system for at least $2,000. I trusted Auto Tech's advice and authorized the $519 repair, but the check engine light came back on the next day. Auto Tech then advised I replace the rest of the EVAP system, quoting me over $1,500 just for the parts. I decided to get a second opinion from the dealer anyway. For a $195 diagnostic fee, the dealer identified a clogged fuel vent tube, cleaned it out, and fixed the problem. This tube is attached to the same fuel tank pressor sensor Auto Tech replaced -- meaning that Auto Tech never took the time to check for a blockage in the immediate vicinity of the part they replaced. When I called Auto Tech to provide this feedback and express my disappointment with the misdiagnosis, they blew me off. They insisted they had been right all along, offered an obviously insincere apology, and hurriedly got off the phone. I am deeply disappointed with Auto Tech and can no longer recommend them due to their failure to properly diagnose this issue, bad advice about how much a dealership would have charged, and dismissal of my feedback.

Johnny happily remembered me, asked about my family, checked the manufacturer's recommended pressure inside the door jamb, and filled all four tires while we caught up. When a friend was stranded in Takoma and needed to leave town, he helped get her car running in time. I have also brought prospective car purchases to him for honest pre-purchase inspections. Johnny stepped back from the business several years ago to spend more time with his newborn, but when he heard that customers were dissatisfied with the way it was being managed, he came out of semi-retirement.
