I took my 1983 Mercedes Benz 300D to American Foreign Car Service and was very impressed by their professionalism, honesty and knowledge. Not every garage can take on a 40 year old car and do repairs as though it was nothing out of the ordinary. I had my rear axles replaced, the front end rebuilt, motor mounts replaced, transmission mount replaced, new fuel lines and glow plugs. Pedro was excellent with communication and was very non-judgmental about my old car that has over 450,000 miles on it. Without any hesitation, I would encourage everyone to use this garage. I have known Pedro for years and he has always come through with a smile and a sense of humor. I am thrilled that he got me back on the road safely and very reasonably priced. His is one of the very few "old style" garages around.

Bolt for a plug where a hose should go!

So let's begin with Pedro is a nice guy? They had my car for a used engine replacement for 2 months and 10 days, I had to call to find out what was going own with the Repairs. I could never get a straight answer from him, then I'm told the engine has noise issues and they were trying to fix it. When asked about the noise I was told they realized it came from a manual car not an automatic. (1mth and a half) 2 weeks go by I call again this time he says the car is ready to test drive. Hmmmm, I drive and do a brake check and the engine wants to stall out almost at 100ft. I drive for about 6 blocks and it did the stuttering 4 times when braking. Then he rides with me, his excuse was the way I was driving and braking @#*@*#×! Kidding I work at a car dealership. He claimed he had no problems when he test drove it. I left the car with him to fix. 3 days goes by this time he claims the throttle body was fouled up and they would clean it. These are pics of the engine with the alternator bolt coming out, a bolt plugging a hose and a ....... @#$%*#&$ Rim Valve stem as a plug. I found this after my woman tells me to drive the car because she heard some noise from the engine. I could go on, but this is enough, don't trust him or use the shop! And I still have no invoice showing mileage and serial number for the engine that was installed

I contracted with District Detail primarily for cleaning the car, but told them I'd be happy with whatever improvement could be made with the body paint. Got the car back literally sparkling inside and out and they made tremendous improvement with the paint - and they were even able to re-clip the front bumper skirt that had gotten snagged and pulled out of place years ago! Steven kindly offered to try an additional product on some of the spots of missing paint which I'll be taking the car back for. Pricing was great and they were FAST; car was in at 7am and done by 2pm (the last time I took my car in for interior detailing at a chain company, they took nearly 3 days!) And I got the appointment for just a couple days following my call. Highly recommend Steven's work and their great customer service - Check them out! (And don't be put off by the fact that the business kinda looks like a chop shop from the street, LOL!)

As the crow flies, Recovery's yard is about a half mile from my home where my car was scheduled to be picked up to take to the shop. My experience with dispatch was pleasant enough. As I was at work at the time and not with the car was to be picked up, I explained to the dispatcher the car was in a parking lot behind the building of the given street address. He said his driver, Curtis, would call to get the details. Curtis called me to let me know he was en route to the vehicle's location. I explained to him the location of the car and offered to text a screenshot from google maps, showing the street names and labeling the location of the parking lot entrance and vehicle's exact location. I sent that screenshot and reiterated exactly where the car was and how to get there. What followed much later, well after I thought the car would have been picked up, were several calls from Curtis saying he couldn't find the car/the car wasn't there/he can't read maps/he doesn't do tow jobs in D.C./he can't find the key/he can't open the armrest where the key is/the car won't start. Ultimately, the car and key were exactly where I said they were and the car started without trouble. I don't understand why Recovery 1, a firm that boasts all over its website about how it serves D.C. specifically, would send a driver who tells customers he doesn't do tow jobs in D.C. Moreover, I don't know why they'd send a driver who can't read a map and also can't relay a cross street location to me over the phone to try to direct them to where the car is located. Again, Recovery's yard is less than a 10 minute walk from where the car was being picked up. It was extra concerning that he needed directions how to push a button to open an armrest compartment and that he had to put the key fob into the ignition to start the vehicle. Finally, with all the problems D.C. has with car thefts and carjackings, the last thing your driver should be telling your customer is they're at the location of the car and it's not there. Aside from not dropping the car off the back of the truck, Recovery 1 failed to meet the most basic expectations for professional service I had.

They gave me a repair estimate of $17,335.18 on October 15, which seemed reasonable, and I assumed work was being done. For over two months, I waited with no updates. Suddenly, on December 5, they emailed demanding the loaner back immediately and threatened a police report for "failure to return a rental vehicle." I called their rep (Alfonso), who said he would extend the loaner--he never followed up. That evening, the loaner was remotely disabled (Valet Mode) while I was driving, stranding me overnight in 20°F snowy/rainy weather on a busy DC street. I had to pay for towing myself to avoid freezing. The next morning (December 6), they called police (Rockville and Prince George's County), claiming I failed to return the rental. They also told officers my Florida license was "fake" or fraudulent. Police cleared me immediately. I repeatedly explained my disabilities (immune-compromised, OCD, ADHD, anxiety) and asked for accommodations to get my medication and belongings from the loaner (less than ¼ mile away at a friend's house). They refused and left me stranded without transportation or meds ever since. Now they demand over $14,000 in storage/rental fees--almost as much as the repair estimate--yet no work was ever done on my car. I have video, emails, bills, and records. This was unsafe, unprofessional, and unacceptable. Avoid if you value safety and clear communication.

We asked for a shorter time since it was my daughter's spring break. At first they said it was ok but then they changed their mind. They insisted on a minimum of three weeks. I think that they run a racket on the tesla loaners and charge the insurance with luxury rentals. Their main focus was to secure as much money they could procure for themselves ignoring all the requests of the customers. In total they took around $12,000 for a repair of less than $2000 for an average paint shop. (they tell everyone a minimum of three weeks!)

They gave me great options for other services that I had done. I mentioned that the dealership where I get my oil change done said I needed new brakes. The service professional at Imperial said they could do that but it was not necessary just yet as the brakes are fine. This says a lot about their integrity. My husband used them as well and he also had a great experience. Even if your insurance doesn't take them, I would go to them and see what you can get filing an out of network claim. Imperial is the place to go! Also their reception area is very clean. I know that may not mean much but It shows the level of pride they have for their business. A clean and welcoming office/reception is an important first impression. I cannot recommend them enough! Also if you need a rental car, they partner with Enterprise who was also great. The team there did an exceptional job.
