The number was a big number but there is a cost associated with having skilled technicians on staff to do the work and do it right. I was ok with this and they were kind enough to work with me on the price. Sometimes the work is fine and sometimes its not. Too often I drive out with a new problem that I did not have before. A year ago this happened with the Steering Gear Box, which started making a grinding noise as soon as I left the lot. I had to bring it back and pay for a new one. Today, I brought it in for a few minor issues and an inspection and oil change. I also asked them to look at the rear end because I was sometimes experiencing a light "clunk" when I would drive over bumps. They told me the rear differential was making that noise. It seemed odd to me that the rear differential would be the cause. So I told them it was not a big enough issue at the moment to justify $3,000 for a new rear differential. I drove it home and - voila - the rear differential is now making a grinding noise (it was not before). The clunk is still there, but that is not on them. I am not going back because I never know if I am going to drive out with more problems than I came in with.
