Warning, they charge a credit card fee and don't tell you upfront. They just have this little sign.

So an otherwise decent visit was tarnished by my discovery of a line item on my receipt called "Non-Cash Adjust". This is them charging the customer their merchant fee. I got in an argument with the cashier and he claimed that it's new and they now have to pay this. I informed him that every business in the world that accepts credit cards pays a merchant fee, and almost all of them pay it out of their own pockets. In my experience on the very rare occasion that they don't, they are very quick to tell you that you can avoid the surcharge by paying with cash/check. This is also useful to know earlier rather than later since it gives customers some time to get cash or bring their check book while their car is being worked on. Fine, so I'm now thinking the solution to this is to pay with cash. I asked for a chargeback, so we could redo the transaction. I was informed by the cashier that he didn't have the authority to do a chargeback, and to return the following day to speak to the owner. While it could have just ended right there, and be made right, I'm now inconvenienced by having to return. Shady little stuff like this really pisses me off. It's not a huge amount of money at 2.75%, but it's how they don't tell you about it, and then once you bring it up they act like it's this new thing that I wouldn't understand as a customer. They aren't the only store to do this, however there is a right way to go about it. Had they been upfront with me and just said that merchant fees are expensive for their business, and that I can pay by cash/check, thereby saving both the merchant and the customer a few bucks. Something as simple as that would have been just fine. Update: This is a response to SamW who was kind enough to write a reply to my experience. The work on my car exceeded $400. While there isn't a standard definition for a big job, I personally think that would qualify for many. At no point was the merchant fee mentioned, nor was it on the estimate. Had it been, I wouldn't have been surprised at the end of the day. If you take a moment to reread my comments, you'll see that is the point I was making. We are saying the same thing in that the customers should be informed that the customer is paying the merchant fee. Perhaps 99% of your customers if presented this information would be fine with the convenience of paying with their credit card despite the fee, but I wrote about my personal experience, and in that specific case, I was not provided that information.

Despite the fact that I came here at the end of the month, my safety inspection went quickly. They hustle to get people in and out. The store has a variety of oil, beverages candy and gum to peruse while you wait. I don't think I've ever seen so many kinds of oil! They also have a Western Union, ATM, and a machine to buy Bitcoin. No annoying TV or music so you can work on your phone while you wait. The chairs to wait are super comfortable too! Prices are the going rate. Sam is friendly and efficient. I highly recommend.

Ben took my call and kept me calm and focused while we tried to figure out what exactly was going on with my suv. After a few minutes on the phone we thought it was best to have it towed to the nearest shop a few miles away (by the way, this was an evening/after hours call). Ben helped get me a tow and offered to send me a car to be driven home. I opted to walk down the street to a local restaurant to take advantage of my stranded situation (that's an entirely different story). Back to my review. The next morning the Nielsen team helped me understand what was going on with my suv, the options available to me, and provided a detailed break down of the costs associated with the five years of neglect and work needed to be sone to my suv. The number was a big number but there is a cost associated with having skilled technicians on staff to do the work and do it right. I was ok with this and they were kind enough to work with me on the price. Through the entire process, Ben and his team kept me in the loop at all stages of the service, until my car suv was ready for pick up. I recommend anyone looking for a hard-working, honest team to service your car or SUV to look no further than Ben Nielsen at any of his locations. My wife and I often use one of their locations in Alexandria on Colvin street because it's closer to home, but when my Audi broke down, skyline became the best option. There's no financial incentive for me to give this review only the gratitude, gratefulness, and my overall desire to thank the team for what they did. Thank you Ben and the Skyline team!

Sometimes the work is fine and sometimes its not. Too often I drive out with a new problem that I did not have before. A year ago this happened with the Steering Gear Box, which started making a grinding noise as soon as I left the lot. I had to bring it back and pay for a new one. Today, I brought it in for a few minor issues and an inspection and oil change. I also asked them to look at the rear end because I was sometimes experiencing a light "clunk" when I would drive over bumps. They told me the rear differential was making that noise. It seemed odd to me that the rear differential would be the cause. So I told them it was not a big enough issue at the moment to justify $3,000 for a new rear differential. I drove it home and - voila - the rear differential is now making a grinding noise (it was not before). The clunk is still there, but that is not on them. I am not going back because I never know if I am going to drive out with more problems than I came in with.

Simply mind blowing. 6/18/2024 had 4 brake rotors replaced. Why not pads also...I don't know (…read morecould have been MY choice?) but being told should always be replaced together. 3 days later, while driving in Ashburn I noticed breaks still causing car to shake . 3 days after repair. I called and explained concern and fact that the next day I was taking car x country to Arizona. Hence couldn't bring it in. I told them I would bring it back in when car returns after sons school ends. I asked that they make notes to my concerns about the brakes before I left town so file is documented for later on. They did have notes and did know about the concern reported 3 days after initial repair. Son brings car home from Arizona several months later.....bring car in......they say Rotors warped but tough s^&*. No warranty .(3 days!!!!) They wanted over $1,100 AGAIN to replace rotors that they installed less than a year ago. They said, " come get car, keys under matt". Prior to this experience, I liked bringing car there as it is family owned and close to my work. Unable to discuss situation on phone as they didn't ever answer and relied on texts only. Closed mid day when went there to talk about it. Like I said, Mind Blowing!

Have been trying to contact this business to schedule an appointment for over a month now since I…read moreheard great things about them, but haven't been able to reach anyone. I have called and always get sent to voicemail saying it's outside of office hours even when they're supposed to be open, and I sent a message through Facebook that was marked as read but got no response. I haven't seen anything about them being closed, they're just impossible to reach. Not very good customer service.
