I didn't get talked down to. I was sure I'd have to take several hours off of work and I didn't. Incredible. Compare this to the last time I got tires when I was in New Jersey where I had to go two days in a row and waste 2+ hours each time on a weekday because they didn't have my size tires in stock. At first I was able to put air in the tire and it would last for around 3-4 days but now it was only good for hours before my tire would go flat. To make matters worse all four of these tires are basically new and less than 30 days old! Anyway, this whole thing was driving me nuts, so I started shopping around for a place. I remembered this local place that allowed you to drive up for on-the-spot repair and they work on your tire(s) while you wait in your car, so I decided to give them a try and I'm really glad I did. When I arrived there were a couple of cars ahead of me, which wasn't a big deal since this place is similar to a drive-thru you allowing you to conveniently wait your turn in your car. They work pretty quickly here and before I knew it I'm pulling forward to get my tire looked at. The mechanic was friendly, respectful, and took the time to listen to what was going on with my tire. He quickly got the tire off, diagnosed the problem, and explained what needed to be done in plain language. The problem was with the valve stem, which had a leak. The mechanic got right to work making the repair and explaining to me what he was doing. The work was done efficiently and correctly, and he made sure everything was explained to my satisfaction. There was no pressure, no upselling, and no runaround; just honest work and solid service. Oh, and the cost of this repair was less than 25 bucks! I couldn't believe I received this much service and such great work at this price point. What makes this place stand out to me is the customer service from all of the staff, but in particular the mechanics themselves that are actually working on your car. Usually, the people working on your car are hidden in a garage somewhere while you wait in a waiting room, so you never actually meet the mechanic working on your car. At Mac's you are up close and personal to the mechanic. That's a huge plus in my book. You can tell this is a local business that actually cares about its reputation and all of the customers coming there. It's the kind of shop where they remember you, talk to you with respect, and make sure you leave satisfied. I had a flat after hitting a curb and brought my car to this shop for a replacement tire. The car had been driving completely fine on the spare beforehand. Immediately after the new tire was installed, it began making a pronounced thumping noise. I called early the next morning to explain what had happened and told them I would be bringing the car back later that day. They asked for my phone number to confirm that I had been in the shop. I drove just over a mile back to the shop at no more than 20-25 mph, and the noise remained severe and noticeably worsened over that short distance. By the time I arrived, there was also a loud clanking noise coming from the new wheel when braking. I arrived around 4:00 p.m. and, because the noise had become a serious safety concern, called again as soon as I entered the line. I was told to simply wait and that they would take care of me. There were several cars ahead of me and no parking area to wait in, so I remained in a line extending into the road. Once I finally got into the shop, I waited over 90 minutes with very little communication other than somebody telling me to shut off my engine. I had to explain the situation to three separate employees, none of whom seemed to have the information I had already provided by phone. The woman I had spoken with earlier didn't come out to acknowledge our conversation until after the car had already been worked on, and then said she hadn't known I was there, despite my having called and been told to wait when I arrived. I specifically requested that they inspect the wheel, studs, and brake components for damage, rather than simply retightening the lug nuts. I was also specifically told that, once the tire work was complete, I should pull the car forward so that a second employee could perform a visual inspection for damage. That's not what happened. I personally watched the first technician remove and retighten the lug nuts, but I did not see him perform the requested damage inspection. When I pulled the car forward as instructed, the second employee did not perform the visual inspection I had been told would happen. Instead, he simply asked the first technician whether everything was okay. The first technician gave a thumbs-up, and they sent me on my way. The actual problem was eventually confirmed: the wheel had been installed loose. Multiple employees also initially asked where I had gotten the work done before addressing the actual problem, even though the tire had been installed at their shop the previous day. The car was eventually fixed, but the overall experience was extremely concerning. A wheel installed by this shop was loose enough to cause severe thumping and eventually clanking while braking, and the problem became significantly worse within roughly a mile. I returned specifically because I was concerned the vehicle was unsafe, yet I waited more than 90 minutes, repeatedly explained the same issue, and was told that a second employee would independently inspect the area for damage when that inspection did not actually happen. Mac's Tire Service is beyond exceptional and a unique small business that is still standing in the midst of so much change in this neighborhood. These folks are service oriented and get the job done fast.... with little to no waiting time or hassle. The most wait that you would probably experience is more than likely due to the line of cars waiting to be serviced. But once you're inside, you're taken care of in no time at all. If one is looking for quick, efficient and competent service for all your tire needs....tire plugs, wheel/rim issues, in need of new or replacement tires.....this is the place to go! They have new and used tires to bail you out when in need of damage to your tire from these rough DC streets, curves and land mines of potholes everywhere in the city! I came here after getting a screw in my fairly new tire that I just brought from Costco. After receiving a low pressure signal from my car, I had a matter of minutes before my new tire was about to be damaged from riding on a flat. Thanks to Max tire being open 24/7, I was able to get my tire repaired and saved me a huge amount of dollars by not ruining my tire or having the need to buy a new one. Let's face it folks, tires are not cheap for sports cars or any car for that matter in today's economy. One tire could be some folks car note.... If you catch my drift....at least mine are. lol. Nevertheless, these folks saved me and got me out of a serious bind at 10 PM at night when most (if not all) tire shops are closed! It ain't pretty and don't expect a gleaming shop with a pristine waiting area with snacks, WiFi, coffee and a water cooler.....but they get you in and out with your tire needs. And, most of all...taken care of at a price far less than the big-box chain tire shops in the entire DMV! I am happy to pay for the convenience & all of the above. Up early in SW to bring my car to my daughter's for her to borrow. It's dead. I convince another early riser on the street to give me a jump. As I drive, I hear a clack, clack, clack sound. I get to her house and run my hand over the tire. It's a nail. My daughter and I start looking for rentals so she and her young daughter can get to the Northern Virginia Girl Scout camp in time. I run across an ad for Mac's. 8 minutes later we drive through and Pepe greets us warmly, tells us all to relax and that he will have us off and running in no time. We were driving cross country and, unbeknownst to us, had excessively worn inner edges on our rear tires that eventually wore down to the steel belts and caused a vibration. We used our spare for the worst one, and drove the last 100 miles into DC. We chose Mac's because of the good reviews and they did not disappoint. They ordered our two replacement tires (not a common size) and had them there later the same day. Never in a million years would I have I thought I would become a regular at a tire shop, but the roads in DC are rough! I've gone to Mac's for tire plugs and for tire replacements and each time I was appreciative of the customer service and the way that the employees not only fix whatever problem I may have, but they're patient in explaining what went wrong and their recommendation on how I should go about fixing it. They are always busy and sometimes have a line down Florida Avenue but it's never a huge issue for me because they are open 24/7 which means I can always just go back in the middle of the night. read more

I think they are good at what they do. I had a flat tire, and came here simply by way of a Yelp search with all the positive reviews. I was worried that I would need to replace my tire, but it just needed a plug which cost about $20. When they finally got to me, the guy who worked on my car was efficient and quick. I ended up tipping him because he was really good. I forgot his name unfortunately. The only annoying thing is having to wait and how traffic gets backed up into the street. It was my first time there, so didn't really know what to expect. I waited about 1.5 hours before my car was finally seen, and maybe only spent 15 minutes in there for service. I guess the cost and quickness of the service offset the long wait time. I would definitely come back though in the future and try to come during less busy times like early in the morning or later in the evening. read more

It is nice to know that some things don't change. When driving down the street and avenues of DC we see change. Often I turn down a street trying to find a business that I am familiar with only to find they are gone. When you have low tire pressure or flat, (you don't want to ride around long). I worked down town DC for thirty four years, and have lost a lot of tires. When I was first directed to Mac's I was shocked to be in a line of about 10 cars. I thought I would be there forever, but they get you in and get you out that was about 10 years ago. In 2921 had a brand new car that got a flat during rush hour! My car dash board was telling me how much air I was losing as I drove, I was so great full they were open. I did not wait long at all. Last Saturday morning 2024 there was a detour on Main Ave, I dropped someone off at GW hospital and tire light comes on, I headed toward the dealer then I took a chance and headed toward Florida ave, and was pleasantly surprised to find that they are still doing business. They still had my car listed from the last time I was in. I used to think wow it is so cramped, but for the work they specialize in, it is big enough to suit the purpose. Was traveling from NC and started having some wobble in my steering. Mac's was close to where we were staying and they are truly open 24/7 so it was a no brainer when looking at their reviews. When you arrive, just pull into the garage and wait in line if there is one. I got a complete rotation and balance. Upon arrival one of my tires were pretty low and upon inspection they found a nail and repaired that as well.
