I brought my 2010 Acura here for a misfire. The repair was successful, but the pricing is UNJUSTIFIED. I was charged $287 FOR A SINGLE IGNITION COIL, which is a 300% MARKUP over the retail price. The total bill of $690 for 1 coil and 4 plugs is excessive for a 4-cylinder engine. More importantly, they tried to sell me a "Fuel Induction Service." AMERICAN HONDA/ACURA OFFICIALLY ADVISES AGAINST THIS SERVICE, calling it an "UNNECESSARY MAINTENANCE PROCEDURE." Honda warns that these chemicals can DAMAGE SENSITIVE ENGINE COMPONENTS like O2 sensors and the catalytic converter. To future customers: DO NOT ACCEPT THE INDUCTION SERVICE and CHECK YOUR PART PRICES before signing. The mechanics are skilled, but the price gouging and the attempt to sell services forbidden by the manufacturer are major red flags. read more

Couldn't tell you how the oil change was but I can tell you that the customer service and employees are the absolute WORST! When I called to make the initial appointment, the guy just randomly says to me "I'm assuming you haven't kept up on the maintenance very well right?" *sigh* Being that generalized misogynistic assumptions are pretty much expected when it comes to mechanics I let that slide, make an appointment, and am told they'll see me at 8am. Cool. Morning of, I pull up to see where I should go, etc and am instantly met by a man shaking his hand at me and barking "No no no, you can't park there! Do you have an appointment?!" When I say yes, he continues to bark at me and just points to nowhere in particular and tells me I have to go park "over there" and bring the keys. This being my first time, this is all new to me so I ask where "there" is. He barks again as he says the street, like I should already know that. Then when I tried to ask for clarification as to whether I would have to leave my car or if I could wait because I have to use my car for work, he just kept saying I don't know and then finally told me I'd have to talk to "the guy". So I go park, go to the office...nobody is there. So I ask who I can talk to and he then tells me that "the guy" isn't there. Like huh?! That was the final straw. Between the misogynistic assumption that I don't maintain my car well and getting barked at when I was simply trying to ask a question to better understand the process, I had had enough and just left. A mythical creature, often discussed but rarely seen - an auto repair company you can really trust. DP is that creature! I recently took my car in for AC work. The condenser was failing. The obvious and reasonable thing to do was replace it and make money on it. Instead, they looked up my car and found that the condenser was under a special extended warranty and that a dealer would repair it for free. Which they did. Thank you DP! I called a week in advance to schedule a routine oil change. I stressed that I needed the car before 5pm because I needed to pick up my kids. (No problem! said the person on the phone) We dropped the car off at the scheduled time. Was told to park on the street. I called about 2.5 hours later to ask if they could also check the tires. This person didn't ask me for my name or my car details just kind of grunted "ok" I hear nothing... 4:55pm rolls around and I hustle up to retrieve my keys. Three of the employees are just standing outside the garage chatting. I say "I'm here to pick up my car." They gesture to the office/the person who can get me my keys. I then proceed to wait several more minutes, it's past 5pm, I gotta go get my kids. Finally, I ask "Could one of you assist me? I just need to pay and get my keys, I have to pick up my children." One of those guys asks the office guy to help me. He grabs the folder with my keys in it. I ask "did you even look at my car?" "No, we didn't" I turn around and leave. No apology, no "bring it back on Monday we'll do it first thing", no offer to make it right. I will never try this place again. read more

Recent maintenance work comes with a follow up to see how the car is running, and they've worked after business hours to make sure my car's ready to go when they said. Been going to DP for years but they really mislead me this time and it just really rubbed me the wrong way. Brought my car in with a simple tire chirp and asked they just address that. Well, they charge me $500+ for rear brakes and swear that's the issue after I ask a ton of questions. Noise returns immediately. So grateful they were able to squeeze me in today! My rear right tire has been making weird sounds for about a week now. With a long drive ahead of me in a couple of days, I knew I had to get it checked it soon. David, the owner, assisted me personally. He explained what was wrong with my car and answered all my questions with such patience (I had a lot of questions!). I tell him the symptoms, he examines, and comes back with a recommendation which - more often than not - has been a minor fix/adjustment, or advising me not to worry about it for now if it's an aging part (we have older cars). 4 stars for a very solid oil change experience. Living in the District (especially Georgetown) makes it a little harder to find service shops that provide both high quality and affordable prices. One of those types of services that is hard to find is auto shops. While I thought that I was going to have to drive over to Virginia to find a good spot to get my oil changed, I happened to be searching on Yelp for oil change shops while shopping at Whole Foods recently. When I saw that DP Auto Service popped up half a mile away with good reviews and a $29.99 oil change check-in offer, I decided to give them a try. I arrived at the shop, which is attached to a Shell gas station, and wasn't sure if this was going to work. There were a ton of cars around with few places to park and I didn't really see a separate entrance. However, I parked my car, went over to a mechanic and he directed me inside their small little office. I sat down and a very friendly attendant gave me the forms I needed to fill out and went through the process to make sure they could do the work (i.e. have my car's oil filter). Once confirmed, they told me to go check out the shops around the area as my car would be done in about an hour. The attendant also told me to be patient in case the work took more than an hour, which I appreciated since I always like places to under-promise and over-deliver rather than the other way around. I decided to walk over to the Whole Foods and finish my shopping. Just as I was checking out (about 35 minutes total time since leaving my car), I received a call from the shop telling me that my car was ready. Talk about fast! I walked back over, put my groceries in the car and talked to the mechanic. He told me that he found a small issue with the car. While I then prepared for the standard attempt to sign me up to pay for more services, he instead told me to check my warranty and look to get it fixed sometime soon. The lack of attempt to try to sell himself to make the repairs was something you don't see very often and something I very much appreciated since I like to look over my options at home before making those decisions. I then went into the back of the shop, received my invoice for the amount I was quoted, paid and headed out. What I thought was going to be an annoying experience was actually very seamless and exactly what I wanted out of my oil-change experience. Overall, DP Auto Service is a solid mechanic with solid prices and good professionalism and customer service. While it would be nice if they had more of a traditional mechanic's storefront, I will definitely be going back to them next time I need work done on my car. read more

DP Auto Service took care of my car when I needed an oil change. They also did the other checks you need every 5,000 miles. I took my car in around noon and it was ready by 3 that afternoon. (I had an appointment) While they did a great job and even performed additional checks, I need to subtract a star because they forgot to turn off my 'oil check' light and give me the new sticker. Not a huge deal, but it did require the inconvenience of going back there to get that done. When I brought it back they were super nice about it and fixed it right there on the spot which is why these guys are still 4 star worthy! read more

Massively overrated, they are TOO BUSY to take time and care. I left a car for an oil change and two minor mechanical things (high beam, squeaky clutch pedal.) They left my car sitting on the street for two days before they did the oil change, and they ignored the other items. Sorry to bother you guys, it won't happen again. read more

I have always maintained my cars at the car dealerships for 2 reasons: - the car usually has a 3 year/30,000 mile service-included warranty package when I get the car, or - if above service package had ended, I just felt more "comfortable" at a dealership because the techs "specialize" in my brand of cars. Well, all that went out the window earlier this year when I was quoted $1700 to change my brake pads and rotors (I drive a luxury German SUV). In years past, I would definitely have gawked at the price, tried to negotiate with my service advisor (with little to no luck), then unwillingly approve the service, and pay their crazy expensive prices. So my sister (who also drives a luxury German car), had been taking her cars to DP Auto for years. For repairs and fixes that are not included in her warranty, she always went to DP Auto. So I finally asked her opinion about my $1700 dilemma and she said "Take your car to David!" Months have passed since David and his guys changed my brake pads and rotors. Since then, they've also changed my tires. And each time I saved hundreds compared to the dealership's prices. I honestly don't know why I waited to long to come here. Just an update on how awesome DP auto is. I've had my Tiguan for 10 years and for the first time, my check engine light came on. With slight panic, I popped a quick U-ey and went straight to DP auto. Despite how busy they were, David and his team took the time to trouble shoot and find out what the root of the problem was.
