They put a sensor on my doughnut tire and messed my abs , esc system up on my Mercedes Benz , my car would not let me drive home from work. Had towed back to them to fix the problem was charged 258.00 for the problem to recur as soon as I got it home. I was noticing my car was having issues starting earlier last week and to my despair it was just getting worse and worse each day. By Friday after work when it didn't start the first time, I knew I had to suck it up and find someone to find and fix the problem. I always turn to Yelp for reviews but especially for this since I have no idea what I'm doing when it comes to cars. Luckily I found Metro Motor, who not only was in my neighborhood, not only had stellar reviews, but also had a really quick response rate to messages! On Saturday I sent messages to several auto repair shops in the area to shop around, and Metro Motor was the first to respond. They told me I would need to bring the car in on Monday to really know what the issue was and also offered towing as an option if I couldn't get my car to start. After the quick responses and reading through other reviews I knew I found the right spot. I woke up extra early on Monday and thankfully my car started and I was able to get to Metro Motor soon after they opened. I was greeted right away and told where I could park my car, and then Woody who I was messaging with came right over. After starting the car again he told me he was pretty certain that it was probably the battery. He popped the hood and discovered my battery was from 2011 and it was definitely time for a new one. He said he could change it out on the spot and gave me the cost. I agreed and went inside for some paperwork questions. Minutes later the car was running like brand new! Since I was already there I asked if they could do an oil change as well, and Woody said no problem and got my car up on the lift. I was so incredibly impressed with the customer service and care from Woody and the rest of the team. I didn't feel pressured or upsold anything and it was clear I chose the right spot. I was in and out in under 45 minutes! I highly recommend Metro Motor in the Capitol Hill Exxon, and although I hope I don't need to come back anytime soon I'm glad to know somewhere so dependable is so close to home. read more

I called Metro Motor as my check engine light was flickering on and off for a couple of weeks and I wanted to get it checked before I drove to New York this weekend. While they were really busy, Woody made time for me to come in and plug in a scanner to ensure it wasn't anything serious, and said they would try to get it fixed in time for my trip if necessary. Thankfully it ended up being very minor and as I'm selling the car shortly, unnecessary to fix. I also had my oil refilled and it was the cheapest refill I've ever gotten (despite basically running on empty). Friendly and knowledgeable employees, and service was quick and easy! They have a morning "walk in" window so you don't necessarily need an appointment. My husband and I went right when they opened in the morning and were done in about an hour (we got an oil change, tire pressure adjustment, and check engine light diagnostics). They also let us know about some issues we may need to take care of eventually but didn't try to "upsell" us. They were just making sure we were informed. Much appreciated! read more

As always, my fellow Yelpers had it right with their 5 star reviews of Capitol Hill Exxon! Just as I was about to leave Boston to drive to DC in 90+ degree temps, the coolant light came on in my car. A friend of mine added coolant, and told me to get it looked at and perhaps a coolant flush in DC. I looked on Yelp and decided Capitol Hill Exxon was the way to go. Sent a request for service through their website on Sunday night around 8PM, and a few hours later (when everyone else is sleeping!) received a reply from Woody saying to come in early in the morning since they get busy. And I can see why! Dropped off my car at 7am and people were already leaving cars and getting things done. Received a call from Woody in the early afternoon saying that they had checked everything and all was well, which was a HUGE relief as I had prepared myself for the usual "well, you need xyz..." I was happy to pay a very fair price for their services, and have the piece of mind that nothing is wrong with the Volvo (which I love, despite the high cost for most repairs). I will DEFINITELY give these guys a call with anything I need while I am here, and you should too ~ read more

The gas attendant was polite but let's get to the point. The prices are about 50% MORE THAN OTHER GAS STATIONS! I was not aware of this. I knew that they did car services because I could see the garage area, but I did not know that this title of "full service" had anything to do with the gas prices. I pulled up to the pump, and before I could even get out, there was a man at my window blocking my door and the pump. I tried to get out of my vehicle, and he stopped me by telling me that it was a full service station. In New Jersey, this is an occupation by law, but with great prices. For some reason I thought that there wasn't a catch to this! He starts pumping my gas, while I sit in the car. Then he continues to wipe my windows after I keep telling him that I am fine without it. He insisted and I was confused because he neglected to explain that I was already paying extra for these "services." It isn't until I'm charged some wild amount of money that I get out to end this torture. I told him that I was a bit new to the area and have never seen a gas attendant here before. That would've been a great time to warn me. I learned a valuable lesson. read more

Woody and his team are the best in town. After taking my 2004 Volvo XC 90 to the Volvo dealer for all sorts of issues, I brought it to Woody to repair the necessary safety things. He elected to try a cheaper fix to my seized front calipers, saving me $150, by replacing my brake pads instead of going ahead with new calipers. He even offered to refund me for the brake pads if I realized the problem wasn't addressed upon driving my car around for a few days. Getting your car fixed by DC mechanics is expensive, period; however, I am so appreciative of Metro Motor for being forthcoming about my vehicle's problems and making the conscious effort to not totally rip me off- because in this town, you could get away with it! I can't recommend Metro Motor more highly. Just one great example of its ethos and character: I came in for a fix in order to get my inspection through. They not only discovered the product in question had been recalled, but further encouraged me to take my business to a Ford dealer because it would be free. So they actively discouraged me from giving them $400 in business, which doesn't happen all too frequently but is just one example of their service in the best interest of the customer. I arrived from Montreal, Canada to visit Washington DC just to find out that my muffler was quite noisy. I called AAA and was recommended to go to Woodie. I called the garage, and right away Woodie asked me to come in and that he'd have a look at the problem. The front muffler pipes that had been changed by my Montreal Garage were faulty, Woodie took a picture and even got in touch with my garage in Montreal. Story short, Woodie went above and beyond what I would have expected. He organized to get another part shipped (faster than Nappa) and even got it covered by the warranty. Once he received the part, he changed it the same day with a very reasonable cost of the labor. Incredible, I wish all people would be like Woodie. He is an example to us all not only to exceed in terms of service, but to be a genuine person overall and always help when necessary. Bravo! read more

Such a fan of this place! They helped me keep my car from 2001 with 140,000+ miles on it running an extra two years. Woody is friendly and upfront about costs. He's very honest if you ask him what actually needs to be done and what could be done but doesn't have to be done right now. They're conveniently located right next to the Eastern Market Metro, which is great for when you need to drop your car in the morning and get to work. The service here is so great that I come out of my way to put air in my tires or get gas here. You know Murphy's law? There's rattling when you start driving your car... you think it's those soda cans in the back. You get out to arrange them, and the rattling diminishes! ...and then some guy is waving you down while you're stopped, and low and behold you have a flat. Boo. **Apparently nails come standard with tires when you're late to meet your bf's parents.** Like air traffic controllers, two mechanics waved me across Pennsylvania Ave, refilled my tire, and made me drive forward and back to find the pesky leak. No waiting time (9pm on a Wednesday), and these guys were so friendly and professional and competent. These guys didn't treat me like a little girl (no condescension! Yes I check my tire pressure on a regular basis), and were quick to assure me that I wouldn't be that much later getting to my destination. Plugged my leaky tire, offered to put on my spare if need be, and gave me their names so I could call 'em later if I had a problem. Yes their gas is overpriced (I attribute it to the real estate, not the people working there), but these guys are definitely pros and super nice locals. Best $20 I've spent in a long time. I was babysitting about half a mile from them near Navy Yard today. When I was walking the baby; we passed my car where I noticed I had a flat in my rear passenger side. I called Exxon because I knew they were close by to see if they could send someone to help me change my tire since I don't know how to change a tire. Yes, I know I should learn.... Anyway, the service manager, David, he would come fix it on the spot. It was going to cost $16. He arrived within ten minutes of my call, and took about five minutes at most to find the problem -- I ran over a screw. David told me not worry about it. He fixed it for free!!!! I insisted that I pay, but he refused. He said they enjoy helping out the neighborhood as much as they can. Never would have I expected such a kind gesture. I'm very grateful. Aside from that, I come here frequently for gas when I'm in the area because they offer full service gas just like the old days. I hate that this a commodity instead of standard, but nevertheless I always appreciate it. They're top notch when it comes to their customers. read more

File under the category of how lucky can you get! My wife and I decided to vacation in Washington DC and get there by driving (from our home in Austin). 2 hours from Washington DC the battery indicator comes on in our Chevy Suburban and it is clear we have a problem (alternator, battery, belt(s), something worse???). First bit of luck, we make it the full 2 hours drive with the battery light on and the error message of battery not charging on...without going below the necessary power to keep the components going. Second bit of luck, the home we rented (on VRBO) is around the corner from a small Exxon gas station that looks like it has a repair bay or two (turns out to be Capitol Hill Exxon). Third bit of luck, the folks at Capitol Hill Exxon are gracious and eager to help. They say their mechanic isn't in until Monday, but realize I likely don't have too many starts left on the car...and allow me to park it and leave it at their place (which has like 4 parking spaces, maybe...and seemingly no room for a Suburban...but, they make it work). Fourth bit of luck, Woody calls me on Monday first thing, says he can replace the alternator for a fair price (which I'm well aware that I wasn't exactly in the best position for negotiating and he in my opinion treated me very fair with the price) and would have the car back to me that day. Sure enough only hours later, he called (oh and texted as well both times to allow me the capability to respond back the easiest for me) to let me know all was good and the car was fixed and ready. I can't believe that I was able to find seemingly the best place in DC for help with my car and it just happened to be a block down the street from my rental. From Texas, reliant on my vehicle in DC, car troubles, likely won't be able to restart my car...and there it is, Capitol Hill Exxon to the rescue. Thanks to Woody and the guys at Capitol Hill Exxon...our vacation wasn't 'that' story we would tell for years to come. It's a story of a auto repair / gas station that treats people fairly and how they'd want to be treated (imagine that)...and who made our car troubles during vacation 'disappear'. Anyone in DC or certainly anyone traveling to / in DC...find this place (just SE of the US Capitol / Mall by a few blocks) if you have car troubles or need anything car related. Woody and the rest of the crew will help you out. I stop here for gas pretty frequently because we live in Capitol Hill and this is one of the few places to get gas on the hill. It also happens to be the best gas station in the city. Want full service? This is where you can go. Want an oil change? Come here. Need mysterious engine problems fixed? These guys can do it. Need a tire patch or change? Yeah, they do that, too. The cost of gas here is a little on the high side, but you aren't paying the $1/gallon extra for full service that you did back in the olden days. I'm talking like $0.001-0.005 more per gallon than elsewhere. Basically I'm saying it's totally worth it. And you feel like you are supporting the community at the same time. Also, you can probably rub elbows with a senator while here. read more

We brought our car in for a second opinion regarding a broken air compressor that could have cost us $1600 to fix. Turns out a rodent got under our car and ate our wiring - costing less than $300 in parts and label. Thanks to their honesty and expertise, we saved over a thousand dollars. Even though it must have absolutely blew for him to pump gas and check oil for the dozens of entitled, delicate Capitol Hillers that cringe at the thought snow, rain, or the smell of gasoline ruining their freshly pressed political swag (o the horror). For me the full service was a godsend because D.C.'s first real snow caught me completely off guard and without a scraper, gloves, or weather appropriate attire. I have been coming here for YEARS since my first year in DC when my car failed my vehicle inspection. I went straight to Capitol Hill Exxon upon a recommendation by AAA and promptly burst into tears when I was quoted a price for a repair. Woody frantically tried to find a lower price for me to stop my crying. He's been my mechanic ever since! Since that experience he (of course) remembers me and has always been so helpful for my (many) auto problems. I've even brought in parts that my dad has bought online to get replaced by him and it's never been a big deal. Someone using my fairly new Chevy Cruze Turbo Diesel added non-diesel fuel into the tank of my diesel-engine car. This caused the engine to sieze and the engine wouldn't run. The fuel tank and engine needed to be flushed and the fuel needed to be replaced. Capitol Hill Exxon only charged me for labor and replacement fuel costs (AT COST, NO MARKUP). My problem occurred on Friday, July 3rd, after everything was closed, and I began freaking out because my car wasn't running, it was a holiday weekend, and all the repair places would be closed the next day. Ahhhh! I emailed early Saturday, and Woody - the service manager - responded Sunday morning on his day off! This review was for an unexpected "house call" on July 11. When I tried to leave my office at the end of the day, my car would not shift out of Park. I called my roadside assistance agent. They contacted the Capitol Hill Exxon, and put me on the line with the mechanic, Woody. When I explained the problem and told him where I was located, he offered to drive over and see if he would help me. Five minutes later Woody shows up and explains a stop-gap I could use to get my gear shift going. He also brought fuses for my car just in case that's what was needed. Unfortunately, the fuses couldn't be replaced without the extra tools at the shop, but Woody explained what I would need to get the job finished. I asked him how much I owed him, and he said, "Just give us a good rating on Yelp." I was surprised by his response. I'm grateful that Woody was willing to do a good deed, and will definitely use Capitol Hill Exxon for future service. Look no further, this is probably the repair shop you're hoping to find. Woody is the best, and gives you reliable price quotes quickly on Yelp, or via phone. The quotes are transparent, and they call you if they find anything that may cost more, so there are no surprises. They don't make up bogus repairs you don't need, they don't shame you if you postpone a repair, and from what I can tell, they don't talk down to women! Great hours for dropping off and picking up the vehicle (until 10 pm!). You won't find this quality and convenient service anywhere else around! I noticed that my front tires were extremely flat one morning, and on the way to work, I stopped at Exxon, thinking I'd have to pay some self service air machine to pump up my tires. When I asked Ron where the machine was located (I believe that was his name), he was very prompt and asked me what I needed it for, and then pumped up my front tires within a minute or two free of charge! It was very unexpected, and I was pleasantly surprised by the service! The gas price on the other hand is some of the highest that I have seen! read more
