This may be the slowest gas station on Capitol Hill. It took me about 12 minutes to fill twelve gallons. Despite that, the station is well situated close to the Eastern Market Metro and along Pennsylvania Avenue SE. It's also usually more clean than other nearby options. read more

I highly recommend this service station. Metro Motor, I think. The 3 gentleman who helped me today were amazing! I pulled over bc I thought I had a flat. They checked and and adjusted all of my tires even though they obviously had a ton of work to do. When my car was still making a noise they offered to drive it to hear it. They then discovered the cause of the problem and thankfully it was just a screw in my tire. They quickly patched it and I was on my way. I had my daughter with me. It was her bday and I was so worried that I would be stuck at a service station all day. Im so thankful they were willing to help me even though they had a ton of work waiting for them. This is a horrible business, I wouldn't trust sending your car. I got an estimate and sent for repairs but they never reached out to me about parts or issues, claiming they didn't have my number when I gave them all the information for an initial estimate. They allowed my car to be tampered with while at the shop. It has a horrible smell and random items in it when it was picked up. Please save yourself and use another auto shop!!!!! read more

Again I was close to empty and this was right near a cell phone repair store I went to so I stopped in to get gas. It is very crowded and cramped, the prices are higher because of the location (Eastern Market) and convenience of being on Pennsylvania Avenue, trash was overflowing, and there were groups of people just hanging out and not getting gas or visiting the convenience store. For a three-minute stop, it wasn't the end of the world, but I was there during the day time and would probably not visit at night. read more

I have used this station for 37 years through 2 cars. I did not know that the Distad family sold the business earlier this year. They kept my car for a day and a half. This for an oil change and fuse replacement. This place has a completely different cost structure. The regular counter person is very friendly but the guy dealing with my car was a bit rude and short with me. How this all could have cost me nearly 200 is beyond me. PS, If I ever come back, I want a receipt the next time you purchase parts for me. Not only a receipt from you, but additionally a receipt from where it was purchased. That should be a given. They also forgot to use the oil in my trunk, which I told them about the day before. The Distad's never would have let my car sit there for a day and a half. Never. I'm very disappointed. read more

We have been long-time Hill residents and used Distads as our car repair shop for many years. Since it has changed hands, we have had two very positive experiences with the new team. Before the holidays, they took care of a few repairs for an older van that we were selling, with a quick turnaround time and reasonable prices. Today, I called in the morning to have a nail removed from my tire and a plug put in. They told me to come on in, and when I arrived, these repairs were handled right away--and no charge! Beware! The place has been sold. I was a loyal customer of Distad's for over 35 years. It was the best. John Distad gave great customer service and was one of the most honest people I have ever met in my life. My car was always fixed right the first time, and I almost always got it back exactly when promised. But he just sold the place and retired, and the new owner is the polar opposite. He is incredibly rude. He kept my car twice as long as he said he would, and then he blamed me for the delay, falsely claiming that I had failed to return a phone call that he had never made. This rating is mostly for when they were called Distads, my car was worked on several times always did a great job and I never felt taken advantage of as far as the cost they were extremely reasonable. They are no longer there and the business has been taken over by Metro Motors as this is what it is called now. I dealt with them once so far, I heard sloshing (water sound) in my car while driving and at the same time my engine light came on, I took my car to them and was told there was water in my rear driver side door, they repaired it and they also cleared some pines (a lot that had accumulated around the lower part of my front window and wiper blades, I appreciated that). I was told that my CEL code meant nothing and they reset it, the charge was extremely reasonable. Now I have to say 5 days later my CEL was back on and I took my car to autozone to get a reading turns out I needed a new thermometer and my antifreeze changed, I had that taken care of elsewhere and my light has stayed off since that time. My car would not start at Congressional Cemetery in SE DC. It was 97 degrees. I was unable to start it with a jump start. I called the owner- John Distad- and he came himself to start the car. I drove it home to drop off my wife and dog and then drove to 9th and PA SE to the Capitol Hill Distad location and waited inside (with my mask on) while they replaced the battery and gave it a road test. I recently switched to Distads from Japanese Auto Care in Arlington because it's closer to my house. I had a noise coming from my engine bay and a leaky rear tire. They called me and told me that a nail was in my tire. The noise coming from the engine bay was harder to diagnose. At first, they thought it was the alternator, but after testing, they realized it was the water pump. They were very communicative throughout the diagnostic process. They also added oil, did an inspection, and topped off other fluids. All of that came to $440, which I thought was a fair price. the pièce de résistance: They removed my DC registration sticker from my window, which I have been struggling to do forever. Great customer service. Fair prices, as far as I can tell. I would recommend this auto shop. read more

I am really torn over this review, but based on a few visits, here is what I've found: The good: They do fairly-priced work and will not try and up-sell you, even when you give them a chance to. My last auto shop in NOVA suggested that I needed all of my fluids replaced as they were all dirty. When I moved to DC, I went into Distad's for normal service and asked them to take a look at the fluids - A-OK they say! That's a $500 savings right there. On my second visit, we needed the breaks checked as I knew we had warped rotors and it had been an issue for a while. This gave them a golden opportunity to sell me on a whole break job, but instead, they said that just the rotors needed to be replaced - another $200+ in savings. The bad: The customer service is seriously lacking; I guess they figure that they can be as rude as they please since they're the defacto auto shop on the hill. They never call to advise when the car is ready to be picked up and the last time I called to schedule an appointment to get in for an oil change, the guy who picked up sounded genuinely annoyed that I had called for just an oil change. He let out the biggest sigh when I asked him to put me on the schedule - it really put a bad taste in my mouth. For me, customer service is always #1 when working in any business, which is why my grade is so low for this place. However - for the convenience and trust that I'm not going to be ripped off, I am reluctantly going to keep giving these guys my business. Such a shame - this place could be amazing, if they just knew how to talk to people. read more

I have gone there for 11 years. They are really trustworthy and reliable. I have never had a problem with my car that they've been misleading about. They once referred me to a muffler place they thought could do the work for the cheapest. Came in with an issue of loudness under the car--adjusted something for 40 bucks. I've been taking my car here for 9 years, and I have never had a negative experience. These guys are honest, reliable, friendly, fast, and they do great work. I cannot recommend them highly enough. You can drop your car off overnight which is helpful if you work late like I do. They have a small lot and occasionally they're too full to take your car (not an issue if you have a zone 6 parking sticker cause they can park you on the street). The only thing I don't have them do is oil changes because you can get them done cheaper elsewhere. read more

Not what I was expecting after reading all the reviews. First of all, do not expect good customer service here. I found the guy working the front counter rude and condescending (perhaps because I'm a girl) with every encounter I had. I understand people have bad days, but I sense this is consistent. I went here to get my oil changed, and they botched it up. (Not to mention they charged around 40 dollars - 20 for the oil change 20 for labor. What a crock.) They didn't replace the oil filter correctly so oil was leaking out of my car. When I returned it to have them fix it - 1) they didn't replace the oil 2) they didn't clean it up, so there is still some left overs leaking. Not ever going here again. I suggest Capitol Hill Auto Service for car maintenance on the hill. Their garage is smaller, but better overall quality, and they won't cheat you. read more

These guys have always treated me well. Prices seem high, but I've called around and the standard services are normal for anywhere other than a big chain store that's going to upsell you on everything. Distad's employees are honest, you can get an appointment or drop of for service easily and quickly and with good turnaround, and they won't try to sell you something you don't need. I brought in my car because I thought my tire was looking a little flat, but they checked the air pressure, said I was fine and sent me home with no bill and a "have a nice day." The only slightly annoying thing is that they're really bad about calling you when they've finished servicing the car. I usually just stick around and check in on them in an hour or so, rather than waiting for them to let me know the car is done. read more

I have a very difficult vehicle to service, a highly modified, barely street legal, rock crawler jeep. I took my 1999 Jeep here after it started idling hard and an error message came up. I am new to owning an old car so didn't have a repair man and went to Google, Yelp and Angie's List for a reference and after much thought and consideration I decided to try Distad;s BP and I'm so glad I did. I made an appointment and took my Jeep there and the mechanic reviewed the error, took care of it and only charged me for my initial hour of labor. And my Jeep never rode better. They seemed to be fair and honest and extremely fast. I'm happy they didn't try and rip me off and charge me for work that they didn't do. I was happy to pay for one hour of labor considering what I could have paid at another repair shop. I would recommend this shop to any and all of my neighbors on the Hill. I really love Distad's and have been bringing my car here for years - it's a 12 year old foreign car and has had a variety of old car issues all of which Distads has been able to handle WELL and without any BS. They even caught a major mistake the dealership made on replacing a front axle - the mechanic was refreshingly honest and told me that while he could fix it for X price, after hearing that the dealership had handled the repair a few weeks prior, recommended that I take it back to them and have it repaired under warranty. I've been taking work and personal cars to Distad's for a couple of years now. Last week, I was having issues with the pressure of one of my tires. It wasn't deflating so I could not figure out if there was something wrong with the tire or the computer system that tracks the pressure. I called Distad's at 5:20pm (they close at 7:00pm) and told them the problem, and asked if I could swing by to borrow a manual tire pressure gauge since I didn't own one. The guy on the phone simply said "no." I almost laughed ... but said "Sorry?" instead. He said "no, don't come." I tried to clarify pointing out that it would take 5 minutes and confirmed they closed at 7pm. Again, he told me not to come ... won't be going back. read more

The guys at Distads were honest about the repairs I needed (not as extensive and therefor less expensive) and were able to do them with short notice, and very quickly. I've brought my car to Distad's several times over the years for a variety of issues and basic maintenance, and they continue to earn my trust and customer loyalty. Their prices are always reasonable. They have never tried to up-sell me on suspicious, seemingly unnecessary services or products. In fact, quite the opposite -- at times, they've fixed a fairly basic issue and indicated that a more expensive fix was not needed at that time. Services over the years have included investigating and solving a mysterious electrical problem that caused my car to lose power while driving for no apparent reason; tire replacement; oil changes; A/C recharging; etc. When they recently recharged my A/C with freon, it still didn't feel very cold. They acknowledged that before any prompting from me and charged it up with more freon again, until it was blowing as cold as it should. Most recently, I had a bit of a problem there in that, after they finished servicing my vehicle, they parked it on the street, and in the day or so before I was able to come pick it up, my car was broken into and the stereo was stolen. Fortunately, as soon as they were told about the incident, Distad's said they would repair the broken window and (although a downgrade from what I had) install a basic manufacturer-grade stereo, free of charge. Fortunately, they were able to find the necessary parts from a used-auto-parts source. For my very old car, this was sufficient for my purposes. It was quite a relief that they took care of this issue without any persuading or cajoling on my part. I hope they know that it was appreciated and that it was a good business move on their part, as they have earned my continued customer loyalty for years to come as a result.
