Found a coupon for $29 for an oil change on the Midas website with their shop address. When we arrived for our appointment, the man at the counter told us they aren't part of the corporate Midas company and don't honor that coupon, and said the best he could do is take $20 off, bringing it to $60 (double what we expected to pay with the coupon). When you go to a place for the Midas name and expect to use a coupon, it's disappointing when both don't happen. I think Corporate Midas should know about this especially when the shop is a Midas shop and the walls inside are covered with Midas posters and printed materials. read more

I had used this Midas about 10 times over the past two years and they used to be good and responsive. However they must have a new team because they overcharged me after misrepresenting the needed work. They told me that the check engine light would be fixed, then tried to have me leave with it still on. When confronted about this, they asked me to come back the next day and then refused to refund my money. They said that they needed "money coming in" to refund my money on my card and then never called me. So I'm disputing the charge with the credit card company and will never use them again. My money still has lot been refunded. They told me I just wait for a "check from corporate." I will simply dispute the whole charge with the credit card company, since they are obviously trying to scam me and keep my money. Update: I received a YELP response asking me to fill out ANOTHER complaint on a link they provided. Of course, the form does not work (picture attached). Now I see why their mechanic is so rude - there is no way to complain. Well, they lost thousands of dollars in future business, because I've shared this with my friend who bring their corporate vehicles to other Midas locations (and personally friends who use this location) and all have agreed to never use Midas again. Called customer service and he got back to me being rude, asking me "well have you ever worked on a car?" Yes, I have, and I know I don't need a system check if i know my battery is dead. Cool guys that worked behind the counter. I didn't have a problem with them. The issue is the labor charged just to look at my vehicle AKA scan diagnose what "Could" be the problem. They charged me $161 plus tax which came up to $185. Yes they told me what the price was going to be, Yes I agreed, but I still need to let whoever comes here from out of town know just like I did from 5 states away and didn't want to be stuck with a check engine light and fuel system light on and possible stranded in D.C. not being able to get my car back to where it needed to be at the last minute when the other Midas I went to told me to come back 3 hours later and was booked. I got home and needless to say went to the regular Midas guy I normally go to in state and they didn't even know why I was charged that absurd amount of money. All I know is the guy behind the desk said they don't make the prices they're "independent" and the pricing is as. I don't know if that is a District of Columbia thing where everyone has money to blow or what, but I guess next time i'll have to just drive this B**ch back home and hope I don't break down next time instead of getting a diagnostic. read more

This place gave me a hard time a couple of years ago on a simple matter. I had forgotten about it until today, when I came in for a SCHEDULED oil change. I called him en route to let him know I was running five minutes late. When I got there, he said, "I hope you can wait because it's going to be awhile." Oh? How long? "A few hours at least." If I was able to wait, I wouldn't have made the appointment. Auto service places are as bad as doctors' offices: the appointment times mean nothing, and they never acknowledge it or apologize. Drove my truck into this place to have them check the brakes. The brake light came on a few days ago and wanted have it checked. I paid $121.00 to have them perform a "diagnostic". Which I thought was bizarre. I'd told them the brakes were not working well. After 40 mins. the mechanic told me the brake line in the rear was rusted out and the repair would run some $1600.00. I wanted a second opinion, so told them thanks and was going to drive to another shop. As I drove away I came up to a stop sign and in horror could not stop the truck. I swerved upon the curb and applied the hand brake and came to a stop. I was pissed. I walked back to the Midas shop and yelled at the mechanic. Why would you let me drive away knowing the truck now had no braking capability? How could you let me leave knowing I had no brakes? The mechanic just stared at me with no real response. It's unethical, criminal and totally negligent. I may sue them. I drove in with brakes, they did something to ruin the brakes and charged me $121.00 to boot. Really irritated with this place. After my debacle at the Ford dealership a few days prior, I needed to find a place that I could bring my car for replacement tire pressure sensor. I called around a few places because I wanted a spot where they'd have the TPMS in stock and I wouldn't have to bring my car back several times. Called Midas and the dude was super helpful on the phone and assured me we could get this done quickly, in one visit, and they def had the TPMS on hand. Made an appointment for opening the next day. Get there as planned for 9:30am and they tell me it should only take about an hour. An hour comes and goes and they suggest additional work which I declined because I just wanted the dumb TPMS replaced. They also offered me a cheaper deal on the sensor which was great. Said I'd be out shortly. Another approximate hour goes by and I'm wondering what tf is going on. No one has come to talk to me at all. I'm about to get up and find someone when the dude comes to get me. We walk outside and he starts laughing so I'm just like uh ok? He says "Sorry to have completely wasted your time today." As it turns out, the replacement sensor they had was broken and of course that was the only one they had in the shop. I'm sure you can figure this out, but that meant I had to bring back my car AGAIN to this place after I discussed at length with them that I only wanted one trip. Ok I get that it wasn't their fault that the TPMS was broken but still. I sat there for TWO EFFING HOURS and no one let me know what was going on at all, the guy laughing about wasting my time was completely unprofessional. I was beyond upset. So whatever, dude tells me to just call the next day when I'm on my way and they'll clear a bay for me so I can get in and get out. I do that, show up, and no one even moves my car into a bay for about 15min. I overheard the duty manager repeatedly telling the staff that they needed to get my car fixed ASAP so I could get out of there. Staff dragged their feet, they were all just hanging out talking with one another. Took an hour and finally have my replacement TPMS. As the guy is checking me out though, he was charging me full price for everything. Even though the day before he had offered me a cheaper price on the sensor. And the fact that I had to go through all this bs to get it done. He only gave me a slight discount when I brought it up. If I didn't say anything, I would've paid full price. I'm going back and forth about whether this should be 1 or 2 stars. I understand that it was a fluke that the sensor was broken. But I def won't be back here again. read more

I drove 40 minutes in driving rain to get here and zero appt HOWEVER it was an open, bookable window online. Terrible service. Oh, and NO ONE had on a mask. Not the attendant, other customers waiting inside and the folks working on the cars in each of the 8 or so bays. No masks worn and no masks enforced. Awful business practice. Avoid. Never been thrilled with the service, but it's been satisfactory and I've never had a problem until today. I made an online appointment yesterday, but today they said it wasn't in the system. I got a confirmation email for my appointment, but whatever, they say they'll still get me taken care of. I asked for an oil change and brake diagnostics. Also mention a sound my car had been making, so they said they'd take it for a quick drive. Everything would be ready in an hour, they said. I'm not entirely naive so I assumed at least 1.5 hours. I walked to a nearby spot to get lunch and then took a stroll after. On my way waking back to the shop 1.5 hrs later I see them driving my car, so I'm aware there will be a delay. When I get back to the shop, I wait for a while for a mechanic to come out and try to push me to do a bunch of work on the car, including brakes, rotors, alignment, etc. I ask to see brakes, well over 1/4 inch so I'm good. They say the noise was just a loose panel, easy bolt or tape job. Basically I don't want any extra work, just the oil change. At this point they get really petty and basically sit around doing nothing on the car. The garage is essentially empty, and my car is on a lift with all 4 tires on the ground. They make me wait out of spite and I have to ask to get them to do any work. It was obnoxious and transparent. Finally ended up getting my car out of there after around 3 hours. All I ended up getting was an oil change. Sucks that they had to do such a terrible job. I'm never going back to this place. UPDATE: My car is 100% making a NEW constant whine/squeak. This is not the sound my car was originally making in the slightest. It's not a subtle squeak at all! They absolutely messed with the brake pads! Crooks. If I were reading this, I would think the reviewer is some crotchety old man, but I'm a normal dude, and they straight up tried to rip me off. I just spoke with the manager at length and he was extremely apologetic. I said that I couldn't believe I was getting such a raw deal after being a good customer for many years. Took my 1987 560SL in for a brake job the beginning of May 2018. Midas found three major oil leaks on the engine. I know these old Mercedes are tricky to work on, but the shop manager, Shane, assured me that they could handle the job. Further, Shane assured me that the work would be complete in tow to three weeks. Seven weeks later, and much pleading to get my car back, Midas returned my car to me undriveable. Noxious fumes coming from the engine compartment, a blown transmission seal that was not reinstalled correctly, and a huge plume of smoke out of the back of my car all within 10 miles of driving forced to to take it to German Auto Group to get my car back to where it was prior to Midas putting it back together wrong. I spent over seven thousand dollars, at Midas, for the repairs, and refuse to let Midas touch it any further. They simply bit off more than they could chew. I have since disputed over four thousand dollars of the amount paid since it cost me more than that just to get my car back to where it was before I let Midas mess it up royally. I will never bring any of my cars back to Mr. Trump's Midas franchises. This company employs unreliable, uncaring, and dishonest people that have no interest in anything other than how much they can soak you for. Do yourself a favor...go somewhere else for your car repairs. read more

Fraud alert. This place is shady. After (twice) failing to fix the AC in my girlfriend's car, her car completely shut down while driving on the highway. Midas' solution after putting her life in danger? A free engine replacement. Seems like the least they could do. Turns out they never actually replaced the engine. Either she didn't need an engine and they lied to her to cover earlier malfeasance or she did need an engine and they didn't replace it. Either way, this place is at best negligent and at worst fraudulent. Stay away. read more

It was a bit pricey ($40) for an oil change BUT I was willing to pay it because I waited until the last minute. Being the procrastinator that I am, I waited until the day before my Christmas travels to get the oil changed (it desperately needed to get done before my 4 hour drive). I arrived at Midas as 6pm, dropped off my car overnight, and it was ready for pick-up the next day around noon. The process was painless and the gentleman that serviced me was very polite. read more

Avoid at all cost: they do the work incorrectly and try to charge you double. They improperly installed brake pads on our Volvo for several hundred, then attempted to charge us an additional $775 for service we didn't need. When we consulted our insurance and had our insurance rep speak with the owner, the owner hung up before returning the phone and said "they would cover $300" and we would have to pay the difference. When I called the insurance company back, they said that Midas was overcharging us and they would fully cover the repairs for the right price. Will follow up with more as we get it sorted. read more

If you call customer service to make a complaint - don't expect better customer service. They will call you a liar and astonishingly defend the physically threatening behavior. It is the tell-all sign that they are used to the complaints about this location and especially this charlatan. There are many many many other auto care business in the area with far better customer service and cheaper rates. And best of all, they do much better work. I recently took my car in for a service at Midas located at Rhode Island Avenue in Washington D.C. The reason for my visit was because I was experiencing a buzzing and pulsating sound occasionally breaks were applied to my Ford Edge. I effectively explained this to the intake specialist and mechanic as it was noted on the initial intake documents. I was informed that I would have to pay for initial diagnostic charge in order to confirm the problem. Once the scan was performed they informed that me that I would need new breaks, new rotors, and an inner axel rod which would cost a total of $1604. This did not solve the problem as I experienced the same buzzing sound and pulsating feeling even after service was performed on my vehicle. Upon bringing the vehicle back the following day I was informed that it was an ABS break system failure and it would require an additional $319 dollars for the repair. This solved the problem. This also confirmed that initial $1604 dollars worth of original services was not necessary. I believe this is unacceptable business practices. As an everyday driver, customers place their faith in Midas for fair and accurate repairs and analysis. read more

I need to get a part for my truck, got there about 9, they didn't get my truck in to look at until 10:30, then it took another hour before my part came. Then, they have to put the part in. Let say, I was there until 12:40. They do great work, and the manager was pretty on top of keeping me abreast of the situation, but I feel it shouldn't take that long. If you do need to get work done, make sure you take it on a weekend, and make sure someone goes with you, so you don't have to wait. That's what I'm doing next time. read more

I came here in February for an oil change, they stripped the bolt for the oil pan while changing it, so I complained and they fixed it for free. I can totally respect them making a mistake as long as they own up to it. I was happy with the service so I came back for my next oil change. They announced that it was stripped and my oil pan needed to be replaced. I explained that they did it, had admitted to doing it previously, and I shouldn't be expected to pay for it. They refused and just threw in an oil change for free, but I still had to pay almost 400 for something that wasn't my fault. Second review: then the Midas team comments on this Yelp review to tell me to reach out to them but if you read in my previous post I did and they never responded . About 1 month ago I took my car to the DC Rhode Island Avenue location to have a oil leak looked at . The service mechanic stated that I need an oil pan gasket or something of that sort . The total cost plus labor came out to around $500 and I was assured that my oil leak will be fixed. Two weeks later my issue wasn't resolved and I brought my car back to the shop. The mechanic said he was busy and he will just put more oil in my car as a short term fix and for me to come back if it's another problem. 2 weeks later I brought my car back as the SAME issue is happening with my oil light coming on and saying to add oil. I brought my car back and this time I spoke to someone I believe in management . He was extremely rude . He stated there is nothing he could do for me and that his mechanics are busy and the particular mechanic that worked on my car wouldn't be back until another day. Not sure why that matters as any mechanic should be able to fix it. He then says I should take my car to my car dealer's mechanic as they can fix it because I may have a faulty sensor. So then I requested a refund since they never fixed the issue . He denied the refund saying that he doesn't know details behind the issue and as far as he knows the issue was fixed and it's nothing he can do. Clearly the issue hasn't been fixed . I've tried contacting Midas corporate and they haven't even responded to the email I sent two weeks ago. I've waited to write this review to see if they would respond and they haven't. AVOID THIS COMPANY! I am out $500 read more

If you're looking for good and quick service, don't come here. I came here for tire service and alignment. They said it would only take an hour or two, but by the end of the day, they didn't align the tires because their machine wasn't working. And I didn't find this out until I got there. Why didn't they tell me this beforehand, before I traveled back there? Who knows. They never called to tell me when the machines were fixed, and they didn't get the machine fixed for a couple more days. Frustrating, to say the least. read more

Service techs are great! MANAGEMENT IS TERRIBLE. Every time I take my car in, they fix the initial problem then something else goes wrong. I try to call management and see if they can take a look again (tried this 2x with 2 different issues), they say "oh we're not responsible for that, that's got nothing to do with it", I've spend HUNDREDS of dollars there and it is close by my home but I have learned my lesson. I went to start my car up and the battery was dead. I called Midas and Tristan and William assisted me with my issue. It was near closing and they were able to service my car within an hour, I was on my way home. They didn't tried to sell me anything. I thought I needed an oil change. William showed me how to gauge, my switch in order for me to know when I should change my oil. They did not tried to rob. I received excellent customer service today! Thank you!!! read more

I brought my car in because the brake fluid light in my car was on and was told I would need new brake sensors, brake pads, and get the main belt replaced for a total of $1451. I took my car into the BMW dealership for a second opinion and was told I just needed to get a brake fluid flush and the pads & main belt were fine. The brake fluid flush was only $200. Do NOT trust the staff at this location. I had my oil changed here before and thought they were trustworthy but after this experience, I will NEVER go back. read more

Terrible shop. I took my car in to get the AC checked out because it wasn't blowing cold air. After an "inspection" the technician said my compressor was bad. I was quoted ~$1100 for parts ($650) and labor ($450). I sourced the parts myself since I felt that was too expensive (found a brand new compressor for $450). When I came back to get the work done with parts in hand. I was quoted $792 to get the compressor, drier, and evaporater installed. When I brought up the original quote they said oh the guy who wrote it up didn't do it right. Bear in mind the guy that wrote it up was literally sitting right there. After this I decided to not let this shop work on my car. I took it to another local shop, who told me there was nothing wrong with the compressor, I just had a bad pressure sensor. They replaced it in a day and it's cold enough to hang meat in my car. Total cost $400 parts and labor. Do not take your car here ever. I'd like to think maybe they are just incompetent but it's very suspect when I decided to source the parts myself the price skyrocketed. read more

I will never be back again. I had exactly one good experience with this shop the first time I went in (they tracked down the bolts which had been sheered off my wheel in a near miss in enough time to not miss Thanksgiving a few years ago), but it has been all down hill from there. I've spent entire days here waiting for very routine maintenance, had to go back multiple times to get my brake pads changed (the first time, the guy "forgot" to actually swap them), and been price gouged when they misdiagnosed a problem. But the last straw was this weekend. I went in to ask for an oil change, and was told it would take two hours. I said enough is enough, and decided to do it myself. On the way back home (it is above 70, which is weird for February) the car overheated. I discovered upon popping the hood (to both check the oil and figure out what was going on) that they had not been checking the fluid levels like they are supposed to. My coolant tank was EMPTY. Not low, empty. This is ridiculous, since I had gone in asking about overheating before the winter as well. That means, every time I went in, they didn't even pop the cap. Admittedly, I should have been less lazy and just checked the levels myself (as I will from now on), and will be doing more of my own maintenance in the future. But this is absurd. I hope no permanent damage has been done to my car, but more to the point I want to make sure this shop's negligence does not cause someone else damage in the future. Drive out to Virginia if you have to, but avoid this place. Which is sad, because everywhere else I have lived I have loved Midas. But this place is terrible. read more

Today - 1/20/2019 - I stopped by this shop because my engine light was on. The guy who spoke to me was the manger of the shop; he said we can take a look at your car, however we cannot fix it today because our credit card machine is down. I said great; would you let me know how much it costs? He said sure, give me your key. (The entire time, he did not make eye contract). I patiently waited for 35 minutes, along with 3 other people who were there in the waiting area. After 35 minutes, I checked in with another tech who just happened to walk by the waiting area. He said "just a minute" and walked away. I then looked for the manager who had helped me before and he said "about 20 more minutes before your car is done." I asked why is was taking so long. He said "your car is hooked up to a machine." About 10 minutes later, he came back and said your car is done, it's $108 + tax = $124.61. I was surprised by the cost and asked why I hadn't bee told about the price and why didn't he give me the estimate. After 10 minutes of trying to have a conversation with the manager, who was clearly high as a kite, and who wouldn't even look me in the eye, I said okay, let me just pay and get it over with. After I gave the manager my credit card, he said "Sir, I told you our credit card machine is down, we can't take your credit card. You've got two options: you either get cash or leave your car here until the credit card machine comes back on." I was so upset! These people took the liberty to diagnose my car without my permission, and then held my car hostage because their credit card machine was down!!! I finally got my car back 2 hours later when the credit card machine finally came back up. DO NOT come here unless you want to get ripped off and spend all day at the shop, where all the techs are high and unprofessional. read more
