MIDAS WEST VANCOUVER BE AWARE. These guys WILL OVERCHARGE YOU. And they overlooked duties in car servicing protocol. I took my car for a standard service and to take a look at a warning light. I came away with a totally flat battery (couldnt even start the car in the forecourt and the warning light not dealt with). To top it all they charged me $500 for a $375 retail price Battery. They also charged me 30% more than I was quoted over the phone for my service and couldn't explain it other than to say it was a receptionist who misquoted me. Mike tried to BS me that he had placed a better battery, but his product code which he had cleverly disguised so clients can not cross check the price, aligned exactly with what he had fitted. I called him on it and of course he went silent on me. No responses whatsoever. To miss a flat battery, makes me wonder what else wasn't completed in this car service. When lining up to pay for the car on collection, both clients in front of me were complaining of overcharges against quotes already issued. This seems to be quite a common issue with MIDAS WEST VANCOUVER. This is the last time my family will use MIDAS. We are not idiots MIKE. Don't hide behind your email. When you get called out on your BS, be a businessman, and answer your clients. Try and win them back. All you have done here for the sake of scraping an extra $200 out of me is loose our family custom and raise awareness to anyone reading this very fair and truthful statement NOT TO USE MIDAS WEST VANCOUVER. Very dishonest and unethical. After paying for an oil change and tire rotation i noticed the tire rotation had not been done. When i called them on it, Chris, the manager and Wesley the mechanic insisted the tire rotation had been done. I pointed out that one of my wheels had a broken center cap and had not changed location and had obviously not been rotated. They then both lied to my face and claimed they had swapped center caps so the appearance of the vehicle matched to when i dropped it off. Are you kidding me? I ended up bringing my car in for the patch/repair and am extremely pleased with the level and care/service provided by this team, especially by Miles. He's extremely knowledgeable and informed me of all the different options so that I could make an informed decision. The shop is quite busy, but I think that speaks to the quality and care the techs provide....I don't think they'd be THIS busy if they had a bad reputation. I went to Midas to do a tune-up of my GMC Vandura 1992 ( 198.000 km ). I just bought it and intended to travel across Canada. I mention this to the mechanic. I don't know much about cars and put all my trust in them. After a week the timing chain got broken and the engine was permanently damaged. I had to take my van and threw it away. I read that the timing chain is something that you change after a certain amount of kilometers ( 200000 roughly ) and it just cost 20 dollars. Why they didn't even mention it to me? This happened when I was driving to Prince George on a road with no signal and not too safe for a single 30 years woman to broke her car. I have also lost 5000 dollars plus the car truck that came and picked me up. Mechanics need to understand that they are responsible for people's life. It is not just about money and profit. I could have been their daughter and I am pretty sure they wouldn't let this happen. read more

I went in for an oil change yesterday at 10 a.m. during the covid19 virus. They were totally prepared and working with the office closed but set up to do business. I left my keys and the car, including a repair of a very twisted seatbelt, were done on time by technician Wesley. But the most remarkable part was that the technician sanitized every part he had touched INCLUDING the entire key. They were very pleasant and I will return. Thanks Midas! read more

Drove as fast as I could to get here as I had a coupon and wanted to try somewhere new. They would not book me past four pm on a weekday which I thought was a bit strange, since I do have a job which I need to pay for said oil change. I couldn't find the coupon. I know I have it; I mean, that's how I found them or why I decided to give them a try, after all. After years of being scammed by Mr. Lube, I was finally going to be the one to get a deal! The only problem is, it was just after four and they didn't really feel like serving me or honouring my lost coupon, anyway. Suddenly, the omniscient Mr. Lube--just across the street--looked good. I promised them that I'd look for my coupon, but nope, no discount for me. This place must be booming and not need my silly oil change. I am first to review, after all. Oh, my mistake; there were actually three other reviews written for Midas--all five star; all filtered. hmmmm. Now, I know the lost coupon/flyer was my fault, but I also know how much money these places spend on advertising. Was I making the coupon up to save a buck? Was I in the habit of scamming these oil change places? I decided to leave out of principle and without my oil change, and they were only too happy to close shop at 4:10. I guess I could spend the 15 minutes to write a nice letter to head office. But why bother? And yep, I found the coupon, right where I'd left it. read more

Chris was very good and scheduled me in right away once he recognized the symptoms of the squeaking brakes. Did an evaluation and was told that one of the calipers seized up which caused the rotor to warp. Gave a me a fair price and a courtesy car. Would definitely go back again for future brake issues. read more

**Update** After posting my review, I received a call from Midas. They wanted to make it right and asked if I can bring it back to the shop where they will take another look at it. I brought it back right away and a few hours later, it was fixed at no extra cost to me. It seems that the squeaky brakes was coming from the rear brake pads. Based on the timely response from them and that they actually did fix the squeaky brakes, I have changed my review to 3 stars. I hope that in the future, they will take a bit more time to diagnose the problem properly, rather than assume what the issue is. ---------------------------------------------------------------- Had brought my 2004 Honda Oddysey vehicle in for squeaky brakes back in May 2019. Was told that my rotors were warped due to callipers seizing. Suggested replace rotors and callipers only as brake pads still had lots of life left. Done. Was told gently ease into the brakes for 300-400 miles and no heavy braking. Done. Drove it for about 1000km and still it was squeaking but even more so than before. Brought it back in in June 2019 and they said I can replace the brake pads as that may fix the problem. They would only charge me for the pads and not labour. Done. Again, they told me to ease into the brakes for 300-400 miles and no heavy braking. Done. Drove it for about 4000km and it still squeaks like crazy. At this point, I am convinced that they only wanted my money. Spent $900 and I am no better than I was before I brought it in the first time. Needless to say, I would avoid vehicle chain franchised as there is no control over the quality one location has over another. read more

These men worked in boundry and also in kingsway on my audi 03 . First i went for a coolant change , not enough coolant was placed , engibe light on . They told me it was the cap , news to me only 126k , also i asked for a oil change , not enough oil was placed , oil stick measured low i add 2 quarts . Also they didnt replace the bottom engine protective cover and didnt put it back with original bolts and instead fastened it with straps , after i complained . And finally to top it off , the guy who replaced my coolant lid , let go to park my tranny and let it slide on a incline without holding it with the parking brake , now my tranny jerks when i put it in gear ... I went to Midas in N Van 20 years ago and was told my car was not safe to drive and needed a lot of work. After a second opinion they said nothing was wrong. 7 years later I sold the car and that work was never needed, total rip off and I made sure everyone that mentioned Midas heard my story. I would have spent hundreds of dollars for work that was not needed. I gave Midas on Main St, Vancouver a chance and he was amazing! The guy that served me (believe he was the manager) was thorough with the details of the repairs/inspection and my vehicle runs great. All staff were polite, kind and most of all he was honest! Had these guys replace a headlight for me a few months ago but it stopped working as soon as I got home. Because of my work schedule, I wasn't able to get back out there until today. Called the shop and spoke to Antonio? He was lovely and told me to come in. When I showed up, he knew exactly what was wrong and fixed it free of charge. I hade a brake issue that 3 shops including a dealership looked at and couldn't fix. I told Midas to just replace the master brake cylinder and that should fix it. They took a lot of time to diagnose the problem, call me several times to update me and fix the problem (it wasn't the master brake cylinder). I was amazed that they fixed the issue that others couldn't. Because of this, I bought my battery there and later my set of tires. Every oil change is done there. These guys are tha BOMB!!! :D I'm always pretty skeptical getting my oil changed (or getting anything done on my car for that matter), in fear of them trying to up-sell on things I don't need etc. It's like finding a dentist or hairstylist...I wanna know that I'm getting taken care of properly & that people genuinely care. I happened to go to Midas around New Years & luckily they fit me in...I was having issues w/ a cpl things in my car which they fixed up and I got my car back. As I kept driving it, something didn't feel right w/ my brakes so I brought it back the second time...which was an easy fix. I kept driving it but again something felt strange (and I hate complaining so I hesitated taking it back but intuition told me it's better safe than sorry!). 3rd time back, I was a bit frustrated having to pay for cabs to keep my car there, etc. So Brad drove me to my shop for work and they took my car for the day. I expressed my concern to him & he said he would make sure it was taken care of. By the end of the day, I still hadn't gotten my car back so the guys offered to help me out & pay for my cab home & back to work again until they could figure it out. Sweet. Next day, they said that something had happened to one of the parts that they had fixed prior that was affecting my transmission & I needed a new one. My heart sank a bit as of course all I could think about was the $$$ involved. I asked how much it would be and they said it would be COVERED 100%!!! I WAS SOOOOO HAPPY!!! & honestly couldn't believe how honest of a business move that was. Because it took awhile for the right part to come in, they lent me a car for the time being. Like anything in life, things happen but it's how people go about resolving it that makes the BIGGEST difference. I am beyond impressed w/ how they handled everything. Myles (the owner), Justin, & Brad (& whoever else helped me out) are AWESOME!!!!!!! I've told tons of people about my experience & am SOOOO VERY GRATEFUL. We had a very troubling experience at Midas Bloor and Keele location this afternoon! A very rude and unprofessional service by the front desk person at 1660 Bloor St. West, Toronto. He refused to show us the oil we are getting for our oil change. We were very polite in requesting this from him and he even threw our keys on the desk! I have had multiple things go wrong with my car in the past - rustbucket from Ontario. As a woman, I find that some car repair places can be condescending and downright scummy - they will take every penny from you if they can!. In contrast, the guys at the Midas on Main near Terminal is great - they show me exactly what needs work, what my options are, and how much it will cost. I brought in my car with a quote from a big name mechanic that had suggested full engine flushes of all sorts that were going to cost me above $400. Suspicious, I came in and asked Midas to inspect it. They saved me half my rent as a result! At that visit to Midas, they walked me to the car, explained the big name mechanic's diagnosis page and pointed out different parts within my engine, and where the big name mechanics had gone wrong (no flushes were needed). Furthermore, they inspected the car upon my request, and one of the mechanics predicted exactly the next issue that would come up - my brakeline, which was starting to deterioriate. So when my brakes failed (spongy) in March, as predicted (my fault, but that's a separate story), I took the car to them. They fixed my front brakes and went ahead and actually re-built the entire brakeline to the back as well (again: Ontario rustbucket). They didn't charge me for the rear one, however, because they didn't originally quote me for it, but they went and head and fixed the issue because they recognized that this was only going to get worse otherwise. Their technician actually came in on his day off to rebuild the rear brakeline. Seriously, I'm going to be loyal to these guys until I no longer own a car. It's not even loyalty to Midas, it's the staff there that works so hard. They're personable, respectful, hardworking, experienced and overall great people. read more

They told me that: "I don't want to see in the newspaper that you killed someone, I shouldn't even let you leave here without doing this 800$ job. Your car's brakes are going to give out at any minute". They PLANTED fear into my mind, a grotesque and violent image. FOR MONEY. Scared out of my mind but needing a second opinion, I went elsewhere and was told there was absolutely NOTHING wrong with my cars brakes. I have been driving for months and still no issues. They take advantage when they know you're not a car expert. I really should write a complaint elsewhere because exaggerating is one thing, but fabricating a total lie is absolutely unacceptable. First time I don't do an oil change myself. These guys did a comprehensive check, fluids top up, tires rotation. I thought my new car required regular oil but they called me and check if I was ok with paying a bit more because my car needed synthetic oil. They even called Mazda directly to double check. They were thorough and provided a great experience. My only thing was the price. They have signs promoting oil change for $34. I paid over $70 with taxes. read more

Any one on here giving Midas a positive review must be a Midas employer or just mental. We were just quoted over $1000 for break pads and no they weren't made of gold. The break pads, even at the most expensive dealership cost no more than $55 each and take about 45 minutes to install. That's 3 hrs labour for a full set. $800 for 3 hours labour, right? My car battery went dead. I got a jump, and headed to Midas. They charged my battery for only 4 hours, then claimed it "failed testing" and needed replacing - for over $200. I declined - my battery is only a year old. Took it home, bought a battery charger at Canadian Tire for $50, charged my battery myself - everything's fine. I feel lied to. I won't be back. read more

**UPDATE - The owner called me today to apologize. He was very sincere and upset that this had happened and felt really bad. He refunded the transmission fluid amount ($150) so at least that is something..... Lesson learned, don't mess around with your clutch, get it fixed. I will never come back here. I was noticing some issues with my clutch recently (difficult to get into first and reverse) so I took it it to get it checked out. I was advised by a member of the staff that the clutch was simply wearing out and there was nothing he could do, beyond changing the transmission fluid (an additional $130 dollars - which did nothing - by the way! - more awful advice) His advice was to continue driving the car and to run the clutch into the ground until it stopped working. He had no idea of how long it would last but said it was safe to to keep driving. Given he was the professional, I took his word. The very next day my clutch failed in the middle of no where, I luckily was able to tow it to a Chevy dealership to get it fixed but much to my surprise, since I had followed this Midas professional's advice and continue to drive it, when the clutch gave out, it destroyed other parts around it (flywheel, etc).. costing me an additional $1000 to replace on top of the new clutch......this additional cost could have been ENTIRELY AVOIDED if not for the AWFUL advice from Midas. Why the employee did not warn me of this when suggesting I ride the clutch into the ground!? It makes no sense and it will FOREVER leave an bad taste in my mouth when I think of my experience with this auto shop. They seemed like very nice professionals but I am so very saddened and disappointed... I would NEVER recommend this place to anyone. Because of them I am out hundreds of dollars when I should have simply replaced the clutch from the get go. read more

And then they threw in a bunch of other things because it was Christmas (I think, maybe theyre just always awesome.) I needed new battery for my Kia Sorento I would use BCAA normally but they did not have matching replacement.I could do it myself but with all the electronics in cars today I decided not to.Midas have good review on Yelp for Main st. location so I decided to give them a call.They have good answering service and front desk personnel but that is about it They quote was 294$ total.NOW! battery was Napa Power ( not the best fit for my vehicle by the way)This battery cost 134$ in Napa store two blocks down and 118$ online I still would not complain it is not my nature. what upset me most they did not know how to replace car battery.They erased all the settings and contacts on my phone and pre sets on my stereo .I cannot recommend this repair shop. Dropped my car off to replace the radiator. I asked them to check for any other damages. They said it was good to go after a transmission flush. A few days later I used the car for 10 minutes. The guys at Midas on Main Street are amazing. Not knowing much of anything about cars, at other shops I have sometimes felt like I'm being duped, but not so by these guys! I dealt with Myles (the owner) and a couple of the technicians, and they had excellent customer service. Myles even checked in by phone to make sure I had a good experience. They provided a quick and inexpensive fix for a problem another shop quoted me almost $1000 for (!), and gave me the information I needed to check on it on my own, along with recommendations about what to do if there was an issue. We were visiting from Seattle and ended up with 2 flat tires. We drove into Midas on a Saturday morning, needing to leave by Sunday morning, somewhat panicked. Chris and Paul (I hope I'm remembering the names right!) were absolutely wonderful. They called a neighboring shop to get the right size tires sent over and promised us that they would get us fixed up that day. While they were working on the car, they suggested some places for us to check out and even loaned us an umbrella since it was pouring.
